Has anyone else had a problem with audio quality in certain apps? When using Heytell and Skype there are distinct "cracking" and "popping coming from the speaker and from headphones. The sound is fine when doing other things like youtube and mp3s. I've heard some people have this issue with netflix as well. I assume it must be a software issue and not hardware. I want to know if I should return my device or not for a new one.
I guess I'm alone with this issue?
I get this on the hacked version of Skype which permits video calling, so I don't feel it's fair to complain b/c the hack may be part of the problem.
I've tried both the hacked and market version with the same results.
I have this same problem with netflix, market skype, and the hacked version of skype. I've seen this problem on the phandroid forums as well. No one has a fix, just multiple reports of the audio crackling and popping. Youtube, mp3, and other media files stored on my phone play just fine.

I definitely noticed the hacked version of skype with the crackling "clipping" sound of audio, even though the original incoming audio doesn't get very loud. I haven't tried original skype but others are saying it does the same thing it sounds like.

So, just wondering if anybody knows anything about the streaming audio issue on Froyo, maybe a possible fix somewhere I overlooked, or some upcoming fix maybe?
If you use Pandora or Slacker on regular basis, you will know what I am talking about. As compared to Eclair, on froyo both sound pretty bad, even with HQ Audio enabled on Pandora. What I've noticed is that over WIFI, Slacker has been recently fixed, it sounds very good, but on 3G the issue persists.
While walking, tonight, I paired my Plantronic Voyager 855's to my Bionic for the first time. My thirty minute phone call was flawless. The music I streamed afterwards was not.
The audio suffered periodic stutters that sounded like a buffering issue. The audio was clear, but paused every couple seconds and resumed immediately where it left off.
I did not experience this problem with my Garminfone, Nexus One, HTC HD7, Dell Venue Pro, iPhone 4, or any other handset or laptop before Bionic while using this same headset.
What is your experience with stereo Bluetooth on Droid Bionic? Please post your headset model with your description.
Thank you for your participation.
I use bluetooth in my car, for calls, at the GYM, and watch movies. Haven't had any problems.

BT Audio Issues
All,
I vote we make this issue a hot forum topic. Its a problem that needs fixing.
I have this issue when streaming music via Bluetooth audio. It clicks/skips/stutters
What are you all using for ROMs? I am trying to determine if the issue is related to the kernel.
Stock ROM:
System version: 5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-g790a33c [email protected] #1

I have a JABRA hands-free in my car (unsure of the exact model) and I have zero stuttering/lag when streaming. Additionally, I am streaming ZumoCast (which I think would stutter more) - the droid x2 has horrible issues with music skipping, even with the music stored on the internal memory. There are a couple scripts that were made to help this (here) so maybe email 0vermind and ask him if he can port it.
Those of you with the issue...
Are you streaming music from your ext sd card?
Those without...
Are you streaming from the internal drive?
I moved my tunes from the sd to card to the internal drive and the problem seems to have resolved, but I was only able to test this theory for 15 minutes.
Same Issue
I have the same issue with my Bionic. Did not have this issue streaming Pandora from my Iphone to the same unit. I have a JVC in dash DVD/GPS and stream all the time. This is getting somewhat annoying...
Nope..works great on my Motorola A2DP head band...
Using a Stock Bionic here with stock Jawbone ERA. I use it with Runkeeper giving me audio hints while streaming Google Music. Had what I thought were stuttering issues but my battery was low. After giving it a full load, worked fine.
Scenario: jogging
Apps: Runkeeper + Google Music
Headset: Jawbone ERA
Location: phone in pocket (running shorts) on the same side as my headset.
I am also having some issues. I use a bt headset all night at work to listen to music from my sd (external) and have no issues. But i also have bt streaming on my car stereo which worked great on my thunderbolt but constantly skips on my Bionic.
I haven't tried moving the music to internal storage to see if it helps, mainly because there are no issues to headset which makes me think there is a compatibility issue or something.
Hoping this is something Verizon addresses in a radio update.
I am rooted running custom roms but the issue was there when still on stock.

Having this problem as well. Using Motorola S305 headset. Sometimes I will experience mad skipping (every few seconds), sometimes it will be every minute or so. Two things I mainly listen to right now are Podcasts through Doggcatcher and music through Spotify (I use premium, so most of what I listen to I synced to the phone for offline use.) I know that Doggcatcher saves podcast files to internal storage by default and I still experience the skipping issue listening to those as well.
Saw a few threads elsewhere saying that having Wi-Fi on while listening might cause this, but it still happens with Wi-Fi turned off.
For what its worth, I was able to access a high-level technical person at Motorola this morning via Chat
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/
They were not aware of this issue. I also told them about the cell standby problem.
I would encourage you all to visit the Motorola site and communicate the issues so things get fixed in a timely manner.
I have seen this issue with my Pioneer BT Headset in my truck. It works great until about a few minutes into the call. Then the other end is breaking up and they say my voice is breaking up. I take them off of BT and everything is fine.
I have this problem in my car as well. Very annoying. Happens with pandora, gmusic, and local media.

Glad and sad to see it's not just me!
I will check out the site. If you hear anything else please share. It is a manageable issue but one I shouldnt have to worry about on such a high end device
From my extensive testing (my 15 minute drive to work) this morning, i found that if i switch to the Performance Governor, the problem still happens.... but much much less...
I use a sony bluetooth to listen to music several hours per day and have not had any of these issues. I did notice this morning as I was exploring the settings on PowerAmp (the music app I use) and found that I could increase the buffer size. I did, but as I said, I was not having this issue prior to that. Any way, I was just thinking that someone may want to try PowerAmp and increase the buffer size and see if that helps.
Good luck and ignore above if it isn't relevant.
My previous phone was a Nexus S and I often used to dictate text messages (my phone typing is excrutiatingly slooow) and 95% of the time I didn't have to edit any of the text.
Just tried dictating a text on my XZ and the text is repeatedly misquoted, every time, barely one word in a sentence of a dozen is correct, is this because of poor microphone pickup?
I've tried various distances between my mouth and phone, speaking faster or slower, just can't get it to work
Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?
p.s. everything else about the phone is tickety boo
Amazed this post had so many views but no comments, similar or polar
Just for the record, I turned off the microphone noise suppression and the prob seems to be cured
( I dictated this post ) but stranger is that I restored the Mic noise suppression and the voice recognition still works cleanly

I have a complaint regarding microphone quality as well. Coming from the iPhone I commonly would send short audio clips to people, mostly via whatapp. I produce house music so occasionally I'd send little blurbs of my music, etc. Now I wouldn't ever expect the audio that was recorded to sound amazing but the iPhone would do the job and do it well. Audio was actually very clear and crisp.
I just tried this for the first time with my new Sony Xperia Z and I gotta say the quality of the recorded audio is so terrible, some clips you can't even decipher what you are listening to! Even my voice when sending verbal messages, the quality is horrendous.
Has anyone else experienced this? If not could some of you give it a try and listen to your own recordings and report back here. I'm curious if it's a Sony Z issue or just specifically my phone.
I'd appreciate it.
PS - having said all that, using the voice function on the keyboard to dictate text for typing or for use with online searches, Maluuba app for calendar reminders, etc all work great with no problems and excellent understanding of what I am speaking.
I dictate entire emails using voice recognition. Works brilliantly.

Thanks but doesn't really help, as stated in my post, voice to text works great. The problem is using the microphone for recording/playback.
What app are you using to record audio?
There's a few on the play store that allow you to change gain levels that might help.
Anyone tried using a wired Mic yet?
There's some code about it in the kernel but it's not clear code, and I can't work out whether it's just for the online Mic on a headset or a standalone Mic.

Been experiencing the bad quality when using both the built in audio recorder (one you get when selecting the multi task window and get the quick access apps) and WhatsApp.

And just to add, on the other hand when recording video, the audio is crystal clear.
FAIL
I can't even use this phone because of this. Skyping is impossible. SCREW YOU SONY SCREW YOU!
Just got some new Bluetooth speakers and noticed a really weird issue. Music plays fine but throughout you can hear crackling and popping in the songs. Really not sure what’s going on. Heard it could be wifi on 2.4ghz network so turned it off, tried on 5ghz same result. Turning Wi-Fi off doesn’t help either when I stream with an iPad Air no issues whatsoever so I’m wondering does anyone have this issue as well. Would like to believe it is not my note misbehaving. Anyone else experience something similar?
Im using PlayerPro by the way.
Try Google music and see if you still get cracking. I've got nearly a dozen different bluetooth devices between home, car, and office and all sound great with GM and BeyondPod.
I've streamed mine thru bluetooth. No crackling or popping sound over here.
Yeah I'm may be the speakers or the phone I'm trying to narrow it down. I'm inclined to believe it's the phone. Since an iPad air gives me no issues. I do have volume boost and viper4android installed.

Bluetooth works perfectly here, although the distance seems to be shorter than other phones I've had previously but that could be because of other factors.

Bluetooth sound stream interruption
I think this is a common issue with bluetooth sound streaming and its implementation in Android. I experience similar popping sounds every time phone sends and individual sound to the speaker. Android doesn't seem to maintain a permanent audio stream, probably due to some optimization. The implementation is horrible though. If there is no stream available and a sound is played, it first establishes the stream. This takes some milliseconds. The sound can be completely missed if it is short enough. The stream doesn't persist either (power saving?) if no sound is queued after so you hear some amount of hissing until the stream is terminated. This is what generates that popping sound (noise to complete silence).
I think in your case, there is a bit of wait between two songs and this is what you are experiencing. I have the same problem with the Nexus 5X. After this many generation of phones, I'd expect such fundamental problems to be resolved but no luck. It may be a hardware issue but I can't tell. I haven't experienced the same issue with any of the iOS devices I have used so far including multiple generations of iPhones, iPads.
Smule application i can hear songs very clearly but when you join or start a duel crackling voice and video lag is coming. Juste checked this app on play store and there is many complains about the latest update. So I think you should complain to the app developers.
It is perfectly working in ROG 2 and complaints is regarding complex features they introduced. Iam using ROG2 also latest smule update is working very fine
