Bionic Reboots Any Wireless N Router??? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I have an EnGenius ESR-9850 wireless N router with B+G+N turned on and auto WPA2 encryption. I can connect all of wireless devices(laptops, bluray, tv, iPhone, Xbox, etc) but not my Bionic. About 10 seconds after I attempt to connect to the EnGenius it will actually REBOOT the router! I've tried turning all the encryption off and only using N instead of B+G+N and still the same thing. Then I found that if I just use B + G it works fine. I've tested this on three different model routers and have the same result.
So in conclusion it seems my Bionic dominates any router that has wireless N turned on and reboots them. I guess it really does control all machines, just not in the way I'd like...
Anyone else having this issue???

I'm not having any trouble whatsoever with my Linksys.
I'm not even sure how a connection being initiated would cause a reboot unless there was something wrong with the router.

What model Linksys please? I may have to look into getting one. So far I've tried two different model EnGenius, BEC, and a D-Link. If I get some time this afternoon I'll try to go through the logs on these routers and see what they say. May be a clue to whats going on somewhere in there.

While I wasn't getting reboots on my router (linksys wrt54g2 rev 1 running dd-wrt) I could not run my wap... Simply would not connect. No mater what I tried.... Had to settle for no ssid broadcast and a Mac filter.

You stole my quote damn you. I was gonna say that :-(

Well damn seems I'm the only one with this problem. I'll have to go test this out with some other wireless N routers and see what results I get. For now I have my router handicapped at G speeds just so I can get my phone to work. May try to return the phone....

No... The issue where these guys are getting their Bionic to reboot routers are all id10t errors. I've never even seen a device restart (except an Android) just because a connection was made to something. Also look at the brand. EnGenius, guys, really? Problem exists because user bought no name hardware. That statement almost includes D-Link as well.

I'm sure there are a ton of things that happen every day you've never seen, doesn't mean they don't happen or aren't true. And I didn't buy either of those pieces of equipment, they were provided by my ISP. Don't appreciate you calling me an idiot either.
Anyways...I did some more testing and I couldn't get the Dlink to do it any more, maybe I got confused about that one. I did test two other EnGenius routers and it still happens with them. I've since been given an Asus router that has wireless N and it's working great! So this just seems to be a glitch with EnGenius routers. Besides this one weird glitch it was a great router.

You are not crazy! My Bionic connects to my D-Link access point and it doesn't reboot the router, but it locks up Internet traffic on all other connected devices and will never connect itself, even though it receives a valid IP address. Same thing occurred with my X, but not my Sammy Charge so it is something particular to moto hardware.
Not a huge deal for me cause I have a Verizon tower less than a mile from my house.
When I get time, I will dig through my access points logfiles.

I did not call you an idiot sir. Just because someone makes an id10t error does not mean they are an idiot. Just means they goofed and I'm sorry you felt that way about my statement.
As far as the EnGenius routers go, are there any awkward default settings on the routers? Maybe a weird default mtu, or something along the lines of an awkward security measure? Just trying to fuel the solution train. Enjoy your day.

Bionic and Wireless N
Linksys WRT160N
The Bionic would connect to the router then not pass any data. I changed the router mode from mixed bgn to mixed bg and the issue was resolved. I was able to connect and get data on bg.

I have a lot of problems connecting to my n router with a secondary g router in the house.
They both have the ssid hidden and the n router is behind a ISA firewall and has the IP address assigned by windows server 2008 r2's dhcp server with a static address assigned to the Mac address.
I do admit that this is a very intricate setup but fail to see why the phone makes the ssid disappear after one connection.

iv'e seen this before, in fact i have a router that does this, it does it with my bionic, and my wife's laptop... it can go a few days, or 5 minutes and then poof reboot, had to move the wife's laptop to another router that didn't crash like that, my main router that crashes is a WHR-HP-GN running the latest brainslayer build of dd-wrt while the one that doesn't crash is a netgear WNR3500L samknows edition... i don't have a fix for it sorry. but maybe you can rest easier knowing that you aren't completely insane, oh btw, thanks a lot, my router had been doing its thing and i didn't know why, i guess i hadn't put that together yet... oh its not crashing either, its just the wifi is dropping it should come back after a little while, and wired shouldn't have any issues.. that's how it goes with dd-wrt installed anyhow.
i bet all of like 5 people have ever even seen that happen before... i have *no* idea why it does that or how its even possible.

Verizon FiOS and Wi-Fi

Hey all. I saw a thread where an issue was briefly mentioned before but saw not resolution. I just had FiOS installed at my house last week and ever since then I cannot get to the internet when connected to Wi-Fi.
Just so there is not any confusion, I am able to connect to wi-fi and get an IP address. I am also able to access the verizon router's web page from my phone but cannot get out to the internet. It works fine on 3G and Edge.
The problem is seen on both my G1 (running Super D 1.5) and my wife's phone (Running CM 4.2.4).
Anyone else seen this problem and know a solution?
Sounds like a router problem. Get a different one, or turn all the security off on the Verizon and restore to default settings.

I already turned off all the wi-fi security and tried, still a no go. Verizon FiOS uses a modem/router combo and you have to use it. Prior to last week I had a Comcast using a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem and a D-Link Wireless router with no issue.
I have no doubts this is a router issue I just don't know what it could be as all 3 of my wireless computers are able to access the internet without any issues. The only devices that are having problems are the wife and my G1's.
I will try to do a factory reset today but am afraid this may affect the FiOS home media server and other Set Top Box I have.
I was just hoping someone had a solution to this as someone else mentioned the issue on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-444245.html
Best bet is to take it up with verizon, I'm sure there are other people that have the problem.
It's good to know they force you into using their hardware, I wouldn't want to go without a proper router, so it could be a deal breaker for some.

yeah, basically what I had done was turned off the wi-fi on the verizon router and hooked my D-link wireless N router up so the Verizon was basically just acting as a modem. I took my d-link out of the equation to troubleshoot and determined that it is definitely something with the Verizon router, I just don't know what. The interface on the Verizon router is crap too.
I'm going to reset the router today and see if that resolves the problem. Other than this issue I have been totally happy with their service. The FiOS Cable is nice and the broadband is way faster than what I was getting with Comcast.
This is solved. It turned out to be a port forwarding issue.

Can't connect my N1 with Linksys router

Hello
My N1 can connect easily to all kind of wifi routers and modems without problem but not with my fitness club's one, they have a Linksys N160.
My N1 can detect the signal, enter the password but then it's stucked with the message ''getting ip...''
Where is the problem? is it a know hardware or software compatibility stuff?
Sometimes rebooting the wifi router helps. Also make sure that when the guy over at your fitness club reboots the router you don't have the wifi of the club saved. delete the saved wifi profile, reboot the wifi router and then try. Cheers.
Already tried it several times. I saw that OS4 of iphone/ipod have the same problem with router enabling Wireless-N, I will ask him to limit the router to B/G
I also had similar problem with Linksys WAG54G2 (at latest firmware). Then I changed to much cheaper adsl router, TP-LINK WD-W8960N and no more connection problem.

I had problems using my Nexus One on my SMC Barricade 802.11b/g/n router when 802.11n was enabled. Turned it off; problems were gone. I don't think that works well yet, though some people have said otherwise. Could be a router-specific issue.
Ok so it's a WAG160N to be specific.
He tried to use mixed B/G instead of mixed (which would imply N too) but it still stuck at getting ip...
I told him to throw this router in the garbage because anyway SE and HP mobiles can't connect too,but he said he would do it but his boss will never accept to pay a penny more
My parents had a router that did exactly the same, my phone got stuck on Obtaining IP, whilst the missus 5800 connected and broswed just fine.
It was a crappy old thing and they replaced it the other week, now I can connect and browse just fine.
I also use a linksys WAG160N.
bought a nexus one, could not for the life of me get an internet connection.
turns out dns on router is poofed, so i just set DNS from my isp manually on the nexus one together with a static ip and booya interent at full 802.11n speeds.
sometimes its the simple things.
This sounds similar to when I set my router to channel 13 or whatever the max was on it. My N1 would only sometimes get a connection, but would eventually drop it and stay off. Solved it by selecting a lower channel (WifiAnalyzer suggesten channel 1 as the best alternative to channel max) on the AP.
I can see that in CM6 nightly that I have since started using I can choose regulatory domain, and thereby open up channels previously blocked. If you can't change anything on the AP this might help you solve the problem on your end.
So suggestions if none of the posts above me provide a solution is to run WifiAnalyzer and see how the channel-graph looks.

Chromecast Unable to Connect to Network

Hey all. New poster long time lurker. I just wanna thank everyone in advance for all the help I've gotten over the years.
Anyway. I own a chromecast and am attempting to connect it to my home wifi network. I'm using a mi424wr-gen3i router with the latest firmware. I disabled IGMP and UPNP is enabled. I turned on IPv6 like some other posters mentioned. My phone (Bionic) gets to the set up page, sees the chromecast but fails at one of two points. Either it says it cannot communicate with the device or it gets to the point of connecting the chromecast to the network and fails. My network is using a WPA2 security key. As far as I can tell my router is not a dual band and only transmits at 2.4ghz. The chrome support mentions something about Access Point/ Client Isolation, but I have no idea what that is or how to configure it. I called both Verizon and Google. Google said check upnp and 2.4 ghz. Verizon said its not their problem.
I was following this thread which seemed to be point on, on my issue. However where other people seemed to make it work, mine still fails.

Yeah. I rebooted to the factory reset. Unfortunately its a verizon issued modem/router combo and its to their specs. MAC filtering is disabled and its been rebooted.
Get the latest router from Verizon & turn off IGMP. Swapping out the router should be free.

I was having a similar problem but I realized that Chromecast only needs the network name and it's password to work. After the step were you put in the password and it fails, I should work..Also, if you are getting stuck renaming chromecast, leave it the way it is for now. Before you start over, check to see if you can see chromecast on you network using Fing or a similar program.

I have had same issue and fixed it by doing a MANUAL entry of all wireless connection to your router... type in SSID, pick WPA2, and enter passcode.
Well after several hours of talking with Google and Verizon again. Verizon hung up on me and Google solved the problem. Apparantly my phone (Droid Bionic) is not communicating with the device properly. Off all things i was able to set it up with my buddies IPAD. Ironic right? Now I just need to figure out what the heck is wrong with my phone. I read somewhere that the razrs were having problems. The Bionic and Razr are one in the same so i guess ill head that way. Anyway thanks guys.

It's always a good idea to try different devices when possible. Adding the Google Cast extension on Chrome for the PC may be the easiest to work with since you're using a full keyboard.
I had to manuilly allow my chromecasts Mac address... Then it worked no problem.

My wife's razr had the same issue. You could have also used your PC to set it up.
Here is the thread on the Razr / Bionic issue: groups.google.com/d/msgid/chromebook-central/1280fb6a-d063-4d77-993d-dbec4fc6cdb6%40googlegroups.com (sorry, you have to copy/paste it, I have less than 10 posts so I can't post links yet).
Play Music and Play Movies/TV probably won't work for you either.
Just hit Try Again and it will work. It fails the first time, and hitting Try Again did the trick.
Not sure if it was luck or what not.

Has anyone else had a terrible experience thus far?

I bought my chromecast the day it came out. Since I have gotten it I have had nothing but problems with it.
First, getting it to connect to my WiFi was a complete pain in the ass. It took me 2+ hours and my final solution was to disable NAT, connect the chromecast, then re-enable NAT. So, fine. I got it to connect and it kind of worked.
~20% of the time it works flawlessly.
Now, the other 80% of the time it will say ready to connect and say it is connected to my home WiFi but the chromecast app either says there are no devices or there is a device that needs to be setup. Also, if I manage to get it to work and start playing a movie on netflix, I often lose the control over it during the course of the movie and the only way to stop it from playing is to unplug the dongle.
Has anyone else had this awful of an experience? What would be the cause? I am contemplating going and buying a new router (mine is a modem/wireless router for centurylink MN: C1000a).

Calls to mind the Anchorman quote: "60% of the time, it works every time."
My first thought is that your AP restricts client-to-client communication, resulting in difficulty communicating between your phone and the Chromecast. However, that doesn't explain the NAT issue you had.
I had some of the same issues with losing controls and not being able to pause or stop a movie/video but the Remote Cast app from the market helped with the loosing controls part. As far as the chromecast losing the network connection unfortunately I ended up hooking up a cheap belkin router in addition to my good router and it works with the belkin just fine without loosing connection.

Having similar issues. Using Samsung LED TV. Setup seemed ok, but 'casting' anything from my phone is slow and tediously painful, it even seems to make the apps on the phone slower to respond than if they are *not* casting, i.e. Netflix loads quickly and transitions normally, but when I attempt to "cast" the phone app seems to act slow and the TV seems to take almost a full minute to catch up to what I selected from the phone, if at all.
I have a brand new router; My samsung TV is wifi enabled, I just don't use it much. The thought occurs to me that perhaps there is wifi RF interference so I may attempt to disable the samsung's wifi feature tomorrow and see if the Chromecast behaves more responsively.
I had troubles connecting to my Verizon FIOS Actiontec router. But I learned years ago not to fool with that router as it makes other things worse. So, I've had a separate Wifi hotspot for years (just another router with the router stuff turned off) and my Chromecasts (I have 4 of them) work just fine with that. If I were you I'd go to Fry's, or equivalent, and buy a cheap router and set it next to your existing one. Routers go for as cheap as $14.99. The one I use cost about $25. Your life will be much easier.
My experience has been flawless using the Chromecast in two different locations. Both locations have routers and wireless AP's that run either DD-WRT or Tomato however. There doesn't appear to be anything inherently wrong with the Chromecast hardware overall (but you might have a dud unit), but the reliability of it obviously depends on your wireless AP and router equipment.
What equipment are you using for your wireless AP and router?
Haven't had any issues with mine or my friend's. Two different routers, but both setup and run perfectly. Might be a router specific issue.

Mine has been flawless. It set up in seconds and works perfectly.
I have been casting a bunch of YouTube and netflix with no issue.
I've got about the same experience. Turns out as soon as I start casting my Wifi network performance is reduced to rubble and the Netflix & Youtube apps on my phone freeze up. Without casting pings to the (Asus RT-N66U) router is around 5ms. After casting the pings are all over the place (200ms - 1sec) with lots of dropped packets.
I have 3 out of 4 signal bars on the Chromecast, but the problem appears to be reduced if I bring it closer to the router. Almost seems like a HW problem.
I'm using Shibby's Tomato rev 124 on the router btw.

Google has it on their router page but sounds like you're not running the stock firmware, so could be any number of things.
First thing I'd check is UPnP and multicast. If either are blocked/disabled it will cause trouble.

I run a slightly older netgear router with tomato firmware and everything plays fine... I keep UPnP off because (at least on my router's model) I was told it can cause problems.

Yeah UPnP really depends. If it works, leave it. If it doesn't, it's worth toggling to see if it makes a difference.
Mine works flawlessly as long as the wireless signal is good. Setup was an snap (have an ATT Uverse/2-Wire router). All I had to do was put in the password and it connected on 1st try.
Used it the other night in the kitchen and I kept losing controls and it kept dropping out before I remembered that the kitchen TV is in a bad spot for wireless. Moved it to another TV and it was rock solid again.
Just bought mine today, setup and use work great. The only thing is no fullscreen casting (the experimental one) and some frame dropping not using it as it was intended (casting a remote desktop tab for fullscreen games).
It may solve some router issues to include an extender or additional bridged router that has it's own SSID. Just in case it's a compatibility issue. It might help to have a clean slate to troubleshoot with.
I had a number of issues originally when first using it, the setup was very hit or miss (kept failing) and I had huge reception issues.
Later Google OTA updates appear to have resolved the setup issues I had on earlier builds and I ended up solving my reception issues by purchasing an HDMI extension cable and migrating my chromecast out of my home theatre cabinet where it was getting impaired wifi signal.

Just bought mine today, setup and use work great. The only thing is no fullscreen casting (the experimental one) and some frame dropping not using it as it was intended (casting a remote desktop tab for fullscreen games).

Yes, contrary to what Google might imply, Chromecast does not have to be on the same wireless network as your other wireless devices. As long as they're bridged, it works fine. That's how Chromecast can be on 2.4 GHz WiFi while my phone is on 5 GHz WiFi, and my computer is wired.
The only hard requirement is that for setup, you need a supported device with 2.4 GHz 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n wireless because it needs to connect to the Chromecast's internal access point that is available during setup.
I have the same router just running merlin instead of tomato. No issues with latency.
I did try it at a friends house and they had some netgear router and latency went through the roof for everyone. Unsure exactly what happened but made the entire wifi network lag horribly.

Issues with new TWC modem/router

Hi all, while thinking that faster internet would be a good thing, it seems that I have managed to break chromecast compatibility with my network. Previously I had a Netgear router that worked perfectly, but when we got an upgrade to TWC's new "Extreme Internet" they installed a new WiFi router/modem hybrid that I cannot seem to connect to. I get the message that it is connected to the network but not the internet. Ap isolation. Is disabled, but I cannot find the plug and play feature anywhere in the network settings. Has anyone found a work around?

If you can give us the exact make and model we might be able to help more.
BTW, TWC changed their policy a few years back and now allow approved customer-owned modems which will save you the modem rental. They used to not charge for the modem rental but also not let you use your own. Installed a Motorola SB6141 for my relative and it's been working great with the Netgear WNDR3700 I put there.
No Chromecast yet because I haven't been by to visit...
You could always use your own modem with twc, just that most people did not know that. Like previously mentioned, more details are needed in order to further assist you. Make and model(tg862g, ddw3611, dvw32011b???). More than likely you just need to call and talk with level 3 tech support. I personally used my own router behind the modem because I do a bit more than normal with my router.

I went through Hell on Christmas Eve with Time Warner....
They have a new Modem/Router they are using....When connected to a personal Router it does a double Nat translation which really doesn't work at all.
Your lucky if you even get Internet access on a Computer with it.
Check your router and see what IP address it has under internet connection. It should not be 192.168.0.x
If it is not an outside IP you need to call support and tell them you need your Router to breach the Modem and have them shut off all ROUTER capability on their Device so that all it does is pass a public IP to whatever is connected to it.
If you get your phone service from Time Warner as well better call on a Cell Phone because they will drop the phone call the second they mess with their Modem/Router and you will suffer through Groundhog day explaining it to the next guy from scratch!
Well guys I solved my own problem in a way. I disabled the wireless broadcast from the TWC Arris router and just connected my old NetGear ( old as in 2 months old) and it seems to work perfectly now. And the installer said, " You won't need to use your old one because this box is like commercial grade bro."

Glad to hear. The wireless modem you have is indeed a great modem and you could use that alone but it is easier to just use your own. The installer more than likely wasn't on the up and up about the more technical aspects of the modem. You can't knock him for that part as the techs are not trained on a lot of the extra features of the modem. I only know this because I may or may not work for the company(need to keep work out of forums).

I usually go with "I have a lot of experience with these products"
