Okay I have tried just about everything and I know that as long as my phone can enter download mode, it isn't bricked but I can't do anything.
Here's what happened, I was running Fasty 2 and then decided to switch to MIUI 1.9.16, so i downloaded the rom and installed it via rom manager. Well when the phone booted backup, I was stuck in a bootloop. It would loud the miui boot animation and then shut off and start again. So I thought okay corrupted install, I'll just flash to stock and try again. Yeah no dice. I got my phone in download mode and proceeded to flash to stock the same way I always do, but this time it froze at cache.rfs, I pulled out the cord and battery and got the compter screen, exclamation mark, robot screen. I tried again, and it got stuck at cache.rfs again. I tried a variety of one-click downloaders, odin flashable roms, running odin as an admin and i don't know what else to do. It either gets stuck at cache.rfs, boot.bin or sbl.bin. I want to master clear and start over but if my phone isn't in download mode it won't turn on. Please help me
Careful if that flash corrups ur bootloaders you are sol. Try another cable. Connect it to the rear of ur pc. If that doesn't work try another computer.
How do I know if my bootloader is corrupted?
Corrupt bl= Dead phone.
I love you. I thought I was out of luck and who would have thought that just using another usb port made the difference. Seriously you're my hero, if I could afford to, id buy you Samsung haha
Glad to hear you where able to work it out.

So here't the full background, it's not long, please read:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-bricked-my-sgs-wonder-what-i-did-wrong.2032/
Long story short, it looks like I bricked my SGS when trying to flash with Odin, even though I followed the tutorial very closely. When I power up the phone, it just gives me the image with phone, exclamation mark and PC on it. It does, however, go into download mode when powered up with VolDown and center button.
How do I save it? Do I need the JIG (God, please say no! )
Have you tried reflashing with odin.
Jig is only needed when you cant get into download mode.
Also i just looked inside the darky rom topic.
Have you flashed the jvk rom first with the bootloaders?
Edit: as said below. If you gonna reflash, flash a stock rom. Not the darky rom. First priority is to make your phone work.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, you have download mode.
Now, fire up Odin and load a few rom files into it, connect the phone and see if the PC still recognises it. (Do not flash, Just a test)
If so...
Flash a stock rom.
Somehow, I was able to flash it with Odin in Download Mode this time. Phew! I read somewhere that the flash might fail if You're using wrong USB port. At first I connected my phone to a eSATA/USB combo port, and for the second time (after brick) I tried a normal USB 2.0 port in my laptop. Maybe that's what made the difference, I have no idea.
Anyway, I'm running stock Samsung 2.3 rom and am trying to install Darky's 10.0 RC3 on it - I am running into some problems, but thankfully they're much less serious than the brick that I was able to fix.
Thanks for Your help!
I ran into similar problems last week. A rom wouldn't flash, so I gave it an hour and it proceeded nowhere. Had to pull the plug on it.
Sometimes it just takes a few times plugging and unplugging repeatedly until it just happens to get detected by Windows. Maybe just a bit of luck too
Congrats on your recovery.
Just wondering which stock 2.3 rom did you use and which Odin setting you used to get your phone up and working again.
Here is my post / problem, seems similar to yours
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020223
Thanks
I had the same issue like warnec on my first darkyy flash, finally everything went fine...don't worry!
just try to reflash with odin (maybe going for a stock version first is a good idea), be sure to do everything as mentioned in the guides out there. and be sure your computer works stable, maybe you want to quit some tasks in the background (however it should work even without but something crashed my odin once...)
Reflash with Odin to make your phone work again. I suggest using a stock 2.2.1/2.3.3 ROM. It is important that it consists of the 512.pit file, a PDA file, a Phone file and a CSC file. The ROM must have bootloaders included!
Now, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
Start Odin and load all the files. Tick 'Repartition'.
Start your phone in Download Mode by pressing Vol-Down, Home and Power.
Connect it to your PC and wait for Odin to say 'Added!'.
Now hit Start, wait 2-3 minutes until it is done and your phone should succesfully reboot!

does not sound very good...could you solve your problem yet?
Had to take the phone into Bell. Waiting on return of it and currently using a loaner HTC Desire Z from Bell.
Im new at this so bear with me please. OK, so I was using Odin to get back to my stock ROM for my Captivate, and it gets stuck on sbl.bin. What initially happened was that I tried to revert to a backup i made, but it ended up staying on my boot screen for like 20 minutes. So i shut off my phone, and it was still doing the same thing. I tried to use Odin to get it back to stock, but it was then stuck on FILE ANALYSIS... Tried again stuck on DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET...
So i unplugged, tried again on Odin3 1.00. Now that one is stuck on sbl.bin, still not past it. Pretty sure my phone is soft bricked. I can still get into Download Mode and everything, so what im asking is am i screwed or is there a way to fix it and how?
Thanks
I have had this happen before. As long as you can still get into dk mode you are ok.
If it is still stuck, unhook. Pull battery abd leave it out. Power off computer then restart. Open odin, get into dl mode try again
You may have to try a bunch if times
Have you used odin before?

Yes i have. I have gone back to stock a few times already and i flashed Cyanogen mod using it. Thanks for the tip ill try and post again after a few attempts
EDIT: OK i got past it. Thanks a lot mcord. Now that I think about it, I might have forgotten to put the PDA and PIT file in after I restarted Odin the first time. Wow i feel kinda dumb. O well. Thanks a lot

its from the rogers stock rom link in my sig but its odin will work for any flash
I have a Samsung Captivate which has been rooted and unlocked...it was running 2.3.5 uckk4
I believe I got a virus from downloading some app that was not on the market well long story short I tried to flash it back to a different version
I believe I put something in odin bootload that I wasnt suppose to it was an accident as you see I am a total noob at this then I use the 1 click unbrick now my phone keeps rebooting itself but i looked at the about phone which i get to for a few seconds before it reboots itself again and this is what it says

I have tried a master reset since I could get it into debug just that it keeps looping and it worked in odin but not on my phone and this is what it generated

Ok I gave you the only warning in the PM. I have moved this thread. A word from the wise. Learn what you are doing before you do it. This is not something to be taken lightly. You could very easily mess something up beyond repair. Take a few hours to spend reading and researching.

Make sure you're using a usb port that is on the motherboard (back of computer). Before you plug in your phone to flash, set up Odin first. Put all the files you are going to flash in the right places. After Odin is fully set up, plug in the usb to the back of your computer, then to you phone. Make sure you are in download mode. If the usb still isn't working, try a different USB port that is on the back of the computer. Connecting the usb to the back of the pc is very important. Odin doesn't recognize my phone when it's plugged in the front, when the phone is in download mode. Only the back usb ports.
If Odin still doesn't recognize the phone, try a different USB cable. But do everything else the exact same way as I described.
Also make sure you fully setup Odin before you plug your phone in to the usb.

You probably have mismatch kernel and bootloader loader. Maybe you can try to wipe data / factory reset in recovery.

If you continue to go into a bootloop then I recommend a USB jig for the galaxy s series. I had had that happen before, Nothing worked, couldnt get it into download mode, couldnt get into recovery, Until I got the USB jig, Fixed my problem right away, and I flashed back to stock. The USB jig is only 6 bucks on ebay. Ill link you if you are interested.

Are you sure? Becuz I tried to flash an overclock kernel on my rom, and kept getting a bootloop. Then after flashing a few different kernels, the kernel that came with my rom didn't even work. I had to go back to stock and reflash my rom.
Idk, maybe it was just me then. I apologize. thank you for correcting me, that's how we learn what's right, and what's wrong.

noob advice
I'm a noob, so this comment might just serve to show how little I know, but whenever I find myself in a bootloop situation, I've noticed that the problem starts with the initial attempt of installing a rom via a kernel with an older version of CWM. During the post-install boot sequence, I'll see the AT&T splash screen, a CWM screen with script running, and then a reboot. Usually, accessing the CWM (now on a higher version) and reinstalling the rom will get it working. Not quite kernel / bootloader mismatch, but close.

Try this.
Buy a jig. Either off of Ebay or mobiletechvideos.com
That week get you into download mode.
Then find the HEIMDALL flasher for a build. (my favorite was the one click for saurom Kk4)
Install heimdall drivers, and flash. Boom. Functioning phone.
Hi, I need some advice. I dropped my Galaxy S in a puddle. It was submerged for the just a second, but when I fished it out, the screen had gone 'weird', so I got the battery out as quickly as possible, then dried it out for a few days in the airing cupboard. I then tried it and it started up okay, then when I swiped to unlock the screen, it froze. since then I have been unable to boot the phone. It shows the Galaxy logo, then restarts and continues that loop.
I wondered if maybe the software has just been corrupted during its bath, so I thought i might try flashing a ROM onto it to see if that would recover. I found that I could not enter recovery mode but download mode opened okay. I have tried flashing a few ROMS using Odin. I am completely new to this and have never flashed my phone before, so steep learning curve. I have so far tried - I9000XWJW5 which I believe is normally used before installing Cyanogen mod. I also downloaded the T-Mobile Stock ROM and one with this filename - CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS. All of these successfully downloaded to the phone and I could see the progress bar on the phone. Unfortunately I still cannot get the phone into recovery mode.
So, whats your opinion? is my phone screwed? Is there anything else I can try which may help, like formatting or anything like that.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
try search for value pack 2.3.6 and flash it then root it after that I believe you should get the recovery option.

Can I do that without being able to get into recovery mode?
I've just been reading that I can use a PIT file to repartition during flashing. Is it worth trying? I noticed in the Value pack TAR file it does not have a PIT file. I got one downloaded from somewhere else called - s1_odin_20100512.pit worth a shot?
I tried including the pit file as well. Odin reported success but phone is still continuous boot loop and I cannot get recovery mode up. Do you think one of those USB things that get you into download mode would help? I'm beginning to think the internal SD is knackered, or something like that.
I think the memory is brocken but i don't realy know. Send it to Samsung for a check

The imaged you linked is considered a download mode, you should be able to flash from it.
That being said, the error you got often means your internal memory is dead. Which also means that you can't get what was on it (Think of it as a hard drive that just died). Your best bet after trying to flash stock would be to partition an SD card and run from it (there's a guide on how to do it on here).

Try reinstalling your drivers to get your phone connected.
But I'm pretty sure you'll have to partition an SD card. Your internal memory sounds dead.

You gotta do some basic research. Here's the stock ROM (without bootloaders): http://www.mediafire.com/download/w..., NO Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe.zip
Just loat it up on Odin and flash away. You can't get in recovery cause your phone can't load anything atm, it needs a clean flash. Just make sure nothing interrupts Odin while it's flashing.

You can give Heimdall a shot (note that it will install its own drivers on the usb port you'll use it on so Odin won't work on it): http://www.mediafire.com/download/5..., NO Bootloaders, Wipe-Heimdall One-Click.zip
If that doesn't work, I can say at like 95% that your internal memory is dead and you'll have to partition an SD card if you wanna get it running. There are guides on how to do it on here.
I've seen that image often. Uninstalling then re-installing the usb drivers for Samsung helped me. Flashing a captivate can be a little convoluted granted all the different methods of acquiring root and flashing a rom that's been used through the years ... and subsequently posted somewhere on the internet. I'd suggest the following .... once your device is recognized in Odin.
1. Flash I897UCKK4 with Odin (no root) for gingerbread stock rom
2. Download and install KK4root. Run Kk4 root "run" exe in the kk4_root folder. Corn kernel is installed with modded recovery system
3. From Corn kernel recovery click "root extras" to get su and busy box installed
