Anyone else with the Droid 3 notice that the space bar seems to stick a lot? As I type, and hit space it will stick and take off entering spaces until I hit backspace. Kind of annoying. Hoping its not wide spread. If it gets worse, I may look into replacing it. It was doing this before I rooted and did anything else as well.
It is strange but mine was 3 days ago on 5.5.959 then i was playing and bricked it so i flashed it to 5.6.890 and it has not done it any more. i am not saying that going to the 5.6.890 did it or not but it was getting bad then it just got better after the update.
Mine does it with letters also. Kind of annoying

Mine does it also. I thought it was just me. I am on the ota and it still does it.

there is a huge thread in the Moto D3 owners forum. Lots of people with the issue. I have in on mine, my son in law had it on all 3 of his D3's ( he kept getting duds! ). The odd thing is neither Verizon or Motorola have acknowledged this as a known problem, even though they apparently have replace numerous devices.
I really think it is a software bug because once the spacing starts it can be stopped by pressing ANY key. If the space bar was stuck, it would keep on spacing. Plus I have lots of times when I get the "special/foreign character" screen pop up. I think this is related, the system "thinks" I am long pressing the key.
Anyway I would love it if the update fixes it!
Mine use to stick (along with a few other letters) but now they seem not to register 100% of the time. It only happens when I type uber fast though.
Meh. No big deal for me.
Well, that sucks. On one hand, I am glad its not a problem with my phone specifically, but it does lead me to believe that not enough time and testing went into the device. If it is a software issue, might be a way to modify that at least. I have also gotten the special character screen randomly. At first I thought I was just hitting wrong buttons, but it does it when I slow down and type more carefully as well.
+1 on some keys starting to not register. the space key especially. i now have to press it pretty hard. most of my texts now have words with no spaces. to me this is a big deal as it slows you down considerably backspacing to fix it.. seemed like such a good keyboard at first

+1. Mine does that all the time as well
It's definitely software otherwise it would affect gaming as well.

Not a hardware issue if its only reproducible when typing faster than god
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Mine was doing that to, it wasnt just the space bar though. It would be any key. Had to press back space to stop it.
Yep, getting the same issue, everything is stock. Otherwise great phone. But this is killing me. nooneknowswhatiamtalkingabout
Currently have Droid3 #3 awaiting pickup at the local FedEx due to this issue.
There appear to be software-related keyboard issues, in that I have key repeats in some apps but not others. Typically predictive text applications such as Google search cause this problem (i.e., higher CPU load results in keypresses not being recorded). I do also see it when text messaging. The Jota text editor on the other hand has very little trouble.
I have noticed a definite hardware issue with my keyboard though. It feels as though the key is not quite rigid enough, and pressing it in certain offcenter locations will consistently result in either no spaces or two spaces being typed.

not in my case and a few others. the space key and also the alt key will not register if it isn't pressed very hard. comparatively when i first got the phone, typing slow or fast I had no issues. Im just afraid that it will continue to degrade. If 6 months from now all my keys stop registering from normal pressure the keyboard will be practically useless..
My D1 had this issue but it took 1.5 year's worth of use and even then only 1 or 2 keys..

I mean im not expecting miracles but do you think froyo will be able to address the multitouch problem we are having? I know the problem its hardware related but maybe it could be addressed through software I mean i would give up a couple of milliseconds of response time for the multitouch to work correctly if they could correct thru software,i wish there could be any real way to address this issue.
do you people think they can and will address this issue in the next update what are the chances of this even being possible,i would like to be able to play a game without worrying if it would even work if the games"keypad" is in the same axis with the games soft buttons, I love the phone but sometimes I cant live with some of its flaws, the edge to 3g switching problem is definitely not a carrier problem as I didn't have it on my mytouch 3g the truly dodgy speaker on the phone not the actual speakerphone but when youre making calls the phone speaker is way too weak if im not in my room by myself its relly hard for me to hear what people are saying to me other than that the phone is incredible, btw I typed this whole topic using swype which I just started using last night, its really awesome. but yeah brick of text just lemme know what you think about froyo being able to address the multitouch problem. cheers swype is awesome ha ha, its even fun to use

HW-wise, you won't get any more than 2 touches acquired on the screen.
SW might have a workaround for the axis bug. Let's wait and see.
I believe nobody needs more than two touches,i really don't want to return the phone or sell it because as of now I could probably sell the phone for like 400$ and pay my etf and get an evo or an incredible ive had the nexus one for like two weeks now and I haven't missed the phone being rooted I already bought a case for the nexus one too, sometimes I feel like im trying to like this phone too much when I should just do what's smart for me and maybe get another phone I love android i guess I'll wait froyo to see if it helps out man

There will definitely be a software workaround for the bug. It's just a matter of time. Either that, or we need a daring coder to venture into this area.
HW-wise, like mentioned, probably not gonna get more than two touches.
But who the heck needs to touch the screen with so many grubby fingers anyways? =P
A 1/4" section from top to bottom on the left side (in portrait mode) of my Bionic seems to be paralyzed (see attached pic). Anything which falls in that zone is inaccessible. First noticed the problem when sending a text and was unable to access letters and commands in the "dead zone".
I've done the ultimate trouble shoot and did a factory reset. I suspected this was a hardware problem and I think I was proven right when restoring factory defaults didn't work. Called up Verizon and replacement is in the mail. I was told that's not an ongoing issue and my case may be the first (yeah right)...
Wondering whether or not I should unroot before sending in the replacement (can't deal with refurbish this early ). I mean I deleted all bloatware without backing up and don't feel like searching for all those apk's to restore them all.
This thread is meant to help others with the same issue...don't waste your time. It's a hardware problem. Get a replacement.
I wouldn't worry about it. If it's a hardware issue, they usually won't bother. I returned by Incredible for a replacement when the screen went dead for some odd reason. Returned a Charge (for the Bionic) in person with it rooted, running GummyCharged.

Yeah if its hardware, it goes to a different department than if it was a software issue. For a hardware problem, they wont even look at the files in most cases.
Personally I would return it to bone-stock before I returned it. I understand the chance is very, very slim that they will decide to make the software modifications and issue, but I personally would not be willing to make a $600 bet on it. That just me and YMMV.
Good luck.

The thing is every time you root/unroot you run the risk of bricking. With my luck that may just happen, thus my hesitation. Guess I'll be a guinea pig in this one and report the results later. Got 4 more days left to return so may just change my mind and unroot.
have you tried using some painting app to test it? there is a one-click restore back to stock script made by dhacker floating around. check rootzwiki bionic forum.
Re screen 'deadzone'
I've noticed some funkiness in the left edge responsiveness too. I use K9 Mail and have multi-select on which adds checkboxes along the left margin. Sometimes they don't want to turn into checkmarks. Other times- as in just now, it's no problem
the only time i noticed touchscreen becoming unresponsive is when the phone is charging. i hope its a software issue and the next ota fixes it.
Has anybody's home button become really hard to push down?
When I push mine down, the initial click does not do anything, I have to further press down on the button pretty firmly.

Mine is fine, an easy press. Sounds like it's misaligned a bit.
A little update: the home button has completely stopped working
If it is misaligned, do you know how I could align it back?
I disassembled the my note today, but the button is actually part of the screen module and I did not want to take that apart.
Thanks.
Mine is also working great. I think you may consider sending it to Samsung to check it out
Yeah, I think that's what will most likely have to happen.
I purchased the phone from handtec and I've already sent them an email asking about the warranty and sending it back for repair.
I just hope the return postage won't cost an arm and a leg.
Mine is fine too.
This is why I'm afraid of buying an international version, I hate physical buttons because they can break or wear down. I also want the exzynos processor though, so I don't know if I should get the AT&T version.

Well I got the Infuse 4G now, so I only have one way anyhow. lol Do you know if CM9 has an option to add screen buttons? If so, then who cares if the Home button dies? I'll just use on screen.

In my opinion, use your phone heavily for the first 30 days. If it doesn't break by then, you've surely had a 95% chance of getting any manufacturing defects out of the way. The rest will just be usual wear and tear.
I mean, you do know that the homescreen button was likely designed to survive a crap load of presses right? Like thousands and thousands of presses.
Think of button phones not too long ago. I was sporting a w800i that lasted 4 years and the buttons were all functioning (and still do today but it's in cold storage) and I was pressing them almost unconsciously even though the phone was locked. It ain't that hard to just transfer those old school tech over.
Just pick one, and enjoy the phone. But strictly probability speaking, your AT&T power button should wear out faster. =)

Very true, and you're right about the power button. I am using the Inspire, I not the Infuse, and the lock button has started wearing off so it's harder to press.
Judging by the Q&A section, many people are having an issue with the capacitive buttons not responding for a minute and is fixed by turning the phone off then back on. This is a huge issue and good navigation is important... Do you guys think this is a batch problem or a software issue?
We should all also send an email to HTC notifying them of this issue so it gets fixed quickly.
definitely a software issue. The capacitive buttons are just mere digitizers who register touch events. If the digitizer were the problem your whole screen should also encounter such issue.
As far as my knowledge goes the issue should be on the software/kernel side. Must be some memory leaks upon triggering a method which should handle the specific capacitive buttons which causes it to get stuck up/hang up. Unless the digitizer is turned off and all stuck methods get killed forcefully.

Well that is extremely good news to hear as I would hate to not get this beast of a phone just because of a slight overlook which could turn into a frustrating experience.
IIRC I had this issue with my rezound when those first came out. Most likely kernel/software related as others have said.

Shouldnt be a problem to fix IMHO. Droid Razr also had this issue when running certain beta custom roms. Home button would stop working completely.

Hello,
Just bought the HTC One three days ago. Everything's been fine with it, until this morning. I barely have installed any apps, I have like 7 pictures, and some music.
Whenever my phone is asleep, or the screen is "off", I hit the power button to wake it up, and seriously, without exaggerating, my wait is anywhere from 3 seconds to 6. I've already tried a hard reset and a soft reset.
Does anyone know the cause of this? Has this happened to anyone else? I can't seem to find ANYTHING on it. I'm aware a little lag is ok, but 5 seconds? Seriously? That seems unreasonable.
Call it a wake up delay, wake up lag, power button lag, power button delay, whatever.
I'm seriously concerned and doubting this phone at this point. I can already imagine the headache its going to be to convince Sprint or HTC its defective.
Go back to Sprint before the 14 days expire.
A lot of us are learning the hard way how bad HTC is, and how little care they have for quality.
When you get a good One, you have a great phone. Like, best in the business. Amazing, even. Good luck getting a good One.
Well, so far I see you guys have a love/hate relationship with HTC. Does anyone have a similar experience with my problem, though? :crying:

I've heard that some people had to go through 5 replacements before they got a device that was only minorly defective.
OP, you have entered the world of HTC (or a lot of Android hardware in general). Now you are stuck in it for 2 years. Take a deep breath, and lower your standards.
Damn. I'm not liking where this is going. I just can't believe no one else has had this problem. I can't find anything on it.
If they don't let you exchange it (which they definitely should), then try rooting it and using a different ROM. Idk if that would help seeing as you're on stock and the ROM should work perfectly
