[ROM/RUU] HTC Wildfire Shipped / Stock ROMs Collection [Complete] - Wildfire Android Development

HTC Wildfire Shipped ROM's / RUU Collection
This thread is created to serve as a backup for whatever is available on Shipped ROM's, in case the site is offline. Please read the entire notes below.

What are these?
- RUU's stand for ROM Update Utility. They contain the ROM contained on a Stock, Out-of-the-box phone, as it was when it was 'shipped'.
Benefits?
- You will NEED to install these if you are claiming warranty on your phone (IF you have rooted / have custom ROMs installed). Besides, these are also helpful when you may potentially mess up some other rooting / flashing process.
Will this unroot my device?
- Yes. RUU's will Unroot your phone. They will remove:
* Clockworkmod Recovery
* Superuser Binary
Remember though, RUU's WILL format your device completely. So make sure you have everything backed up.
However, RUU's will not remove S-OFF if you have used AlphaRev X / Revolutionary. To remove S-OFF, you will need to follow this procedure here
How to install?
- Simple. Connect your Wildfire to your PC, run the EXE File, that's about it.
But I am on Mac/Linux. EXE's don't work on my comp.
- Extract the ROM.zip from the RUU using OpenRUU. Needs Wine
- Rename to PC49IMG.zip
- Place on your SDCard
- Start phone in bootloader mode. (Vol Down + Power simultaneously). Follow On-Screen instructions next.
Error 131 Customer Error?
- Create a Goldcard. If at first you don't succeed, try again. If you still fail, borrow another SDCard from somewhere and try again. Some SDCards are finicky when it comes to creating Goldcards.
Error 140 Bootloader Error?
- Happens when you are trying to install an older version of a stock ROM on top of a newer version. Run Step 1.bat from here and try again. (Step 1 downgrades your MISC partition which will allow flashing an older ROM on top of a new one)
Error 120/170/130/171.....
- They can happen for n reasons, and the best way to go around it to extract the ROM.zip from the RUU and try to install directly on your phone. For Windows, the procedure is outlined here, and for Mac/Linux, use OpenRUU as already stated above.
There are so many links there how do I know which to choose?
- Generally, RUU's are named as such
RUU_Buzz_<HTC/OPERATOR>_<REGION>_<VERSION>_Radio_<RADIO_VERSION>_release_<RELEASE_CODE>.exe
HTC/Operator - This field will tell you whether it is a branded ROM or it is an unbranded (ie HTC ROM). Examples of branded ROMs are Vodafone ROMs, Telstra ROMs, Orange ROMs etc.
Region - Shows the region for where the RUU is developed for. WWE stands for WORLD WIDE ENGLISH, so choose this in case you don't know which RUU you are supposed to use. Other examples are ARA (Arabic), CHT (Chinese), HK (Hong Kong), Asia (Duh!), TW (Taiwan), SPA (Spain), FRA (France) etc,
Version - While not really important, this field tells you if it is an Eclair ROM or Froyo ROM. Eclair RUU's always begin with 1.x (Examples - 1.37.405.1, 1.14.405.2 etc), and Froyo RUU's always begin with 2.x (Examples - 2.22.405.1, 2.25.720.1 etc)
Radio Version - Irrelevant really. Its not like you have choice here.
Release Version - Same as above.

OTA ZIP's
****************
- These are incremental updates, and not complete ROMs in themselves.
- OTA Zips will only work on the base ROM they are designed for, so, are not universal. Check the File Name of the OTA Zip. As an Example - OTA_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.37.405.1-1.25.405.1_R2_release1ey1wsiqy49sdrqx.zip. Here, thos OTA ZIP will install HTC Firmware version 1.37.405.1 (1st Number) on your device, but will only work if you have HTC Firmware version 1.25.405.1 (2nd Number) on your device already.
- To install OTA's, follow the steps given below: (Untested on devices which have Clockworkmod Recovery installed)
- Download the OTA file you need. Rename this file to update.zip
- Place this on your SDCard
- Turn off your phone and turn on in HBOOT mode (Vol Down + Power)
- Select RECOVERY. You should see a Red Triangle with an Exclamation Mark since using an RUU removes Clockworkmod Recovery
- On this screen, Press Vol Up + Power. This should take you to Stock HTC recovery.
- Here, select "Apply SD:Update.zip". Follow On Screen instructions

- These are intended to be flashed in Clockworkmod Recovery , this will not remove root or Clockworkmod Recovery. So don't use these incase you intend to return your device to claim warranty. Use them only if you want to get back to a Stock ROM from whichever you are using at the moment.

Nope, it isn't safe flash zip.
It is an official froyo ota update which is to be flashed from stock recovery.
Edit: Incase if ur question is "IS IT SAFE TO FLASH ?".
YES, ofcourse. Stock HTC updates are well protected with their signatures. But it is useful only if u r on android 2.1 and want to upgrade to 2.2

Unsafe ZIP full RUU
Hallo,
I would like to use the latest, full, clear and not safe ZIP to flash my WF. And, it has to work in Germany. The latest Italien one, is it a full Ruu or only an update? It has only 60MB which seems to me a little bit to slow - but maybe I am wrong.
I have a mac and I can't use the exe files.
Thanks!

OTA ZIPs are just updates They are not full RUUs. Use OpenRUU to extract the ROM.zip from EXE files on your Mac.

Then rename the extracted rom.zip to PC49IMG.zip and restart the phone in bootloader (Hboot) mode.

Any way to remove the bootsound?

I am currently visiting Australia. Using a Wildfire with Wildpuzzle 2.2.1 on it.
I know this isn't a telstra phone, but a A3388 (from memory).
Which ROM would be best to install, and if once installed, would I still be able to root the device again, put clock work on it, and install a ROM down the track?
I'm just finding things a bit vague... Like what does WWE mean? and all other acronyms used on the ROM file names?
Thanks very much!

Depends how long your in Australia for. I'd say wildpuzzle should be ok. You could use a safe flash zip. And keep your zip.

Mac, Wine and Ruu
Hi, it does not really work. Reading the post of all the other members, it seems to be the wrong way to extract the rom.
And, a really good instructions i could't find how to use the scripts - now where I have Wine on my mac.
Is it possible to some one how know how to and have the possibility to extract the later rom and post it here? I would like to install and fresh and not safe RUU on my Wildfire.
Thanks!

well since ull be flashing an original rom uspl will not be needed..
you can actually download the official ROM from HTC website (at least in Asia, not sure about Europe). In fact, from HTC website, they have telco-specific ROM (such as Starhub and Telstra).
I have done it before, downgrading dutty 3.7 ROM to stock/official using the official ROM update package, and it'll revert back my SPL to 1.12 as well. But I was on SPL/USPL, so I'm not sure with your hard SPL, would your base be downgraded as well, but my guess is it should.

Sorry to sound a dumb ass, but i want to make sure i get this right, cant find much on down grading just upgrading
i've downloaded this file
RUU_BlackStone_Orange_UK_1.19.61.1.rar
and it extracts as
ruu_signed.nbh
can i just use this file from dutties rom
BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe
and put the .nbh file in the same folder?
the only method i know how to flash is as below
1. put phone into bootloader mode
2. run blac_uspl.exe (for 1.56 roms)
3. wait for the cmd prompt to establish a connection
4. run BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe which had the dutties rom in same folder
based on that info, do i do that same thing to downgrade?
if someone could let me know which steps i need to follow/mis out that would be great thanks

Since you have Dutty's 3.7 on your device at the moment and you are going to restore the stock Orange rom you need to restore the stock SPL that came on your phone before you flash the rom. Otherwise you will be running a newer SPL that is not supported with the older Orange rom and will have distortion and compatibility issues.
To restore your phone to stock you need to:
1. Flash original SPL - most likely 1.14.0000 since the rom versions for Orange are 1.14.xxxx and 1.19.xxxx.
2. Flash original rom.
If you need help restoring the original SPL look in the HSPL thread where it says "How to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!"
If you still can't figure it out after that, let me know.
also take note of youre sending it back due to faults they wont checkit they just send you another and replace the motherboard

[RUU] Buzz HTC WWE 1.25.405.1

New RUU released on shipped ROMs.
THIS IS NOT FROYO! (Feel free to flash, can easily be rooted using unrevoked 3)
This is especially helpful for those, who get the Error 140 while trying to remove the Branding of their Wildfire. Who has Version 1.19 installed can now debrand using the GoldCard and this RUU. Mostly this error came for T-Mobile and 1&1 Devices.

No, this is usually not correct. Many providers modify the stock operating system of their handsets, and commonly remove features and/or add bloatware. I have this handset pay monthly on T Mobile UK, and the bootscreen is branded, alongwith a "TopApps" program that runs on startup.
I recommend this ROM anyway as it is noticably faster.
I tried to flash this ROM.
Ich applied the unrEVOked patch before succesfully.
But i cant flash this ROM. Its waiting for the Bootloader, until it says that it has a Connection error.
Im using the 1&1 brandet Wildfire.
worked fine for me on 1&1
maybe you can add that you don't even lose your applications, contacts, sms and settings when you first do a nandroid backup
then flash 1.25 rerun unrevoked and use the advanced restore feature of nandroid - just pick "restore data". voilá!

How to flash this after unrevoked3
Hello, I have clockworkmod recovery and root from unrevoked3. I would like to install this ROM - as the only custom ROM seems unstable to me, but the RUU errors out as the phone never seems to go to recovery (maybe because of custom recovery?) during the update process. Can anyone advise how I should proceed to flash this ROM with the clockworkmod recovery installed?
thanks

Try the new v6, it should work for everyone even those who havent ext partition on sd-card.
And in what way have the rom been unstable for you? Its realy stable for me and all my friend who runs it. And i cant anderstand why it should be unstable for you, as we all have the same hardware.
Instability
Hello,
the instability in fact came from the JIT being enabled. Guess We'll have to wait for a Froyo update before we get something ressembling a stable JIT implementation. Since disabling the JIT - it's good. Thanks for coming back on this

Change Vodafone Kernel to Google Kernel

Hi,
I've just bought a new nexus one mobile phone from Egypt. Since the mobile was not officially released here, the only shops that sell it are the ones that import it from Europe...so lucky me i got my self a Vodafone Nexus one Mobile running Android 2.1-update1
After a long search on the internet i was able to update it to Android 2.2 (build FRF91). After another very long time trying to find the 2.2.1 update (build FRG83) i discovered that it wasn't released yet for the Vodafone mobiles. but some claim that by installing the FRG33 build Rom your kernel will completely change and thus you become a "Normal" nexus one
My questions are:
-Is the above true?
-How do i install this Rom?
-Does the process of installing the Rom need rooting my device?
-is there a simple tutorial for a noob (running Linux ubuntu) for rooting?
-Is it possible to root the mobile "Temporary" until I get to Build FRG83?
-Is there a high chance of Bricking the device?
Thx in advance!!!
Since you have AMOLED Nexus (otherwise it wouldn't be able to run 2.1), there is no problem flashing stock FRF91 on it.
Of course it requires rooting.
Read my signature, I hope you'll find your way from there easily. If any step in the directions below isn't clear - go to Wiki and find what it means and what needs to be done.
If you want stock 2.2.1:
Use 1-click root, install custom recovery (any), download stock FRF91, use the recovery to flash it, then download FRG83_from_FRF91 upgrade, rename to update.zip and put on SD card, go to the stock recovery (your custom recovery would be overwritten by then), flash update.zip.
If you want custom ROM:
Use 1-click root, install custom recovery, download and install custom ROM of your choice.
I would like to say that Android 2.2.1 has no major changes compare to Android 2.2.
for your questions..
-Is the above true?
I'm not sure about kernel version because I keep using third-party ROMs, but it's possible for FRG83 to have a different kernel than FRG91
-How do i install this Rom?
Stock FRG83 rom should be available to download somewhere, once you have unlocked bootloader and have a recovery (Amon or Clockwerk) installed, you should be able to flash FRG83 rom in recovery.
-Does the process of installing the Rom need rooting my device?
sorry about this
-is there a simple tutorial for a noob (running Linux ubuntu) for rooting?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Nexus_One
-Is it possible to root the mobile "Temporary" until I get to Build FRG83?
It's not necessary to root device temporarily, because once you have acquired root privilege, you can play a lot more tricky things, so there's no reason to become unrooted again, but I've heard from people who would like to receive update OTA, they have to unroot in order to get OTA update properly.
-Is there a high chance of Bricking the device?
Nexus One is now developer phone, so it's unlikely to be broken only by flashing new ROM
Wrong info. That's exactly why people should read before asking questions - because the answers they get might be partially correct at best.
1. Kernel versions don't matter, the OP just doesn't know ROM from Kernel. He should read more. He wants stock Google ROM.
2. Stock FRG83 is available from the same Wiki I've mentioned above, and some reports say that it doesn't like to be flashed from custom recovery and doesn't proceed. So I didn't suggest it, and suggested FRF91 which 100% flashes.
3. CyanogenMod Wiki only has 1 root method - unlocking the bootloader. It's definitely not the easiest one, and some people might want to keep their bootloader locked. I don't believe OP is one of them, since he bought a phone for unsupported country and warranty won't mean anything to him, but at least he needs to be educated about the differences. In Wiki he does, in your post - he doesn't.
4. When you flash stock ROM, you lose root - as simple as that. If he wants stock FRG83 - he WILL lose root, and if he wants it rooted - he'll have to go to Wiki again and see, how to root. If he has unlocked bootloader - it'll be just a bit easier.
5. Since he already has Froyo, chances are his radio is updated. If they aren't - the stock ROM contains radio, and if it's not up to date on the system - it will be flashed. Flashing radio incorrectly (terminating it in the middle, power failure, etc) is the only way to brick the device. So if his radio is updated - there's no chance he'll brick it, if it's not - it depends on if he'll touch the phone during the radio flash or not.
And this has no place in Development section.
well I'm still kinda confused, so I'll try to explain a little better what I got in mind first.
I read this post (google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=5fe9454b7c7261e7&hl=en) in the nexus one forums that explains the difference between 2 kernels one exclusive to Vodafone (Europe?) and one to other Carriers in the USA.
The kernel version I have ([email protected] #1) get updates like a month after other one and I believe I have to insert a Vodafone sim for it to work. what I read online (can't remember where) is by installing the FRG33 leaked rom on the device it basically changes the Kernel version to the US version ([email protected]#1) so that I can easily update to FRG83, as till now the Vodafone kernel still didn't receive the FRG83 update OTA.
I tried downloading the file FRG83 from FRF91 and it simply gives me a failed to verify file whole-signature and never completes the update.
So reading online, I'm still confused on what exactly to do to install this leaked rom. Now correct me if I'm wrong but what I understand from this thread I have to gain root privileges to install custom recovery and then install roms and solve my problem. right?
I'll be following this thread (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598) to root my device is it the correct one?
You need to flash full update of frg33,and after that you'll update OTA to FRG83.Here it is the full rom http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Pas...le_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_MFG_Shipment_ROM.zip

The kernel versions are identifying ROM variants, other than that they're of no use.
You can't apply FRG83-from-FRF91 update to Vodafone ROM, you need to install stock Google ROM first.
Yes, this is the correct thread to root the device.
Or you could do another thing that you wanted, and it'll probably be simpler:
Go to Wiki, download stock FRG33 image, rename to PASSIMG.ZIP, put on SD card, reboot the phone into bootloader. It'll automatically apply.
Then either wait for the OTA to FRG83, or apply the update.zip as I suggested above - only use FRG83-from-FRG33, that you can find linked in the first link, or in Wiki between "All stock ROMs and OTAs".
I've downloaded the FRG33 Rom and installed it using the PASSIMG.zip method. now the last problem, hopefully, is that i can't find a FRG83 from FRG33 OTA and i don't get any automatic OTA on my nexus one phone.
i tried the link but it seems that the any file on the google server was removed or something as it says page cannot be found and i can't find the file on the wiki.
any help here? and way to force the OTA to start on my nexus one or does anyone have the file or a mirror to the download?
Copy-pasted from some Google search:
Open the phone dialer
dial this: *#*#2432546#*#*
you'll see a notification that checkin was successful
Then, hit menu>>about phone>>system updates to see if anything is there.
Still nothing I dial it and get the checkin succeeded notification but when i go to the system updates it just says my system is up to date.
P.S: sorry for not searching but it's like 3 in the morning and I've been dealing with this for like hours....my brain hurts.
edit: tried using the passimg.zip method with this file (dl3.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/signed-passion-img-FRG83_0923.zip) which i found on the rom section of the wiki but after checking the passimg.zip the bootloader just reboots itself and returns to the main menu without doing anything.
Yes, it's reported that FRG83 doesn't like to be installed by PASSIMG method.
You could try renaming to update.zip and flashing in recovery.
Tried that but still nothing gives me an error: E: signature verification failed.
Well, in that case, if you really want FRG83 - you have to root and apply this update through a custom recovery.
The root and the custom recovery will be gone once you apply it.
ok so i rooted my phone using the rageagainstthecage method since the 1 click root does seem work for FRGXX build. then i used Rom Manager to install this file (http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/dow.../update-nexusone-FRG83-stock-radio-signed.zip)
now the last problem, not really sure if it is anyway, after the rom was installed i lost root privileges as u said but the recovery remained custom (clockwork mod) now I don't really care if it's stock or not, but am i going to get OTA updates with no problem even with a custom recovery or do i have to put it back to stock?
EDIT: I've Extracted the recovery.img from a stock FRG83 Rom and installed using the Flash_image method now i've got the stock Recovery back, I believe that this way everything is ok to receive OTAs in the future..
THX a lot to everybody that helped me out Especially Jack_R1

Rooting incredible S - instructions?

Hey, I'm thinking of rooting my phone for two main reasons - removing all the crap that got installed with my phone which I don't want, and doing something about the useless search button which I never use (mapping to camera seems like a good idea). So I'm really thinking of trying CyanogenMod. CyanogenMod also seems to be based on Gingerbread, which is nice since I'm currently still on Foyo and not sure how to upgrade to Gingerbread (I'm in Australia, never got any notifications on my phone about software upgrade to 2.3...)
I've been looking at the threads on this forum and I'm a bit confused about what is possible / required. For example, "[GUIDE] upgrade / root Gingerbread / Froyo, flash custom roms July/05" pinned to this thread suggests I can use AlpharevX to S-OFF my phone, which I gather is required for rooting. However pinned to the very top of the dev board, is "Rooting Incredible S - AlphaRevX in Public Beta" which seems to suggest that AlphaRevX can't root the Incredible S yet ???
So anyway, can someone look over this and tell me if what I'm planning to do is right?
1. S-off my phone. Use AlpahrevX as instructed on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036581 I need to do this in order to root my phone.
2. Root my phone. Either upgrade to gingerbread and use the gingerbread rooting instructions, or use the foyo rooting instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036581 (does it matter which way I do it? Or is one way significantly better/easier/more reliable?).
3. Install CWM using instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 This is needed to install custom roms (is this right?)
4. Actually install custom rom, using instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134670 It says to "Flash CyanogenMod". How do I actually 'flash' a rom. Is that something CWM does for me?
5. Install Google Apps addon for CyanogenMod.
Other questions:
- Is rooting the device actually necessary? Some instruction posts for using custom roms that I found on these forums, skip straight from the instructions to S-OFF, to the instructions for using CWM. So is it that you don't actually need to root your phone? Or is CWM a tool that does the rooting?
- I already stated my reasons at the start of my post for wanting to root the phone, but is there anything else particularly significant that you can only do with a rooted phone?
- CyanogenMod has a recommended radio file. Their wiki has instructions on how to update the radio file for Incredible S but it looks complicated. Exactly what benefit is there to using a custom radio file, worth the risk/trouble?
- Lastly, if I ever want to return my phone for warrenty or something, is there a way to undo all of this? I'm guessing you'd need to turn on S-ON, un-root, then replace the rom with the appropriate shipped rom (from this collection: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12870734&postcount=1) and replace the radio file with the default one. So is it possible to turn a S-OFF phone to S-On and 'un-root'?
Add me on google talk and I will tell you what I did, and answer questions to the best of my ability.
[email protected]
Ok yes you need to S-OFF your phone (otherwise it wont work) This is the first step:
**GoHere...http://www.youtube.comwatch?v=XshvRmAcgm8 This is an awesome youtube video of how to S-OFF with AlpharevX
** After that you need to install the CWM recovery but first (instead of looking at their difficult instruction) Do THIS:
Go here(easy step)
This will give you instructions on downloading a Flasher. What that does is flash certain things onto your device while its plugged in.
**Once you have downloaded that, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680 (only download the recovery image for Incredible S)
It is the 3rd step I do believe.
When you are done downloading it. Go into the file and grab the file called recovery (image file) and drag it to your "downloads" screen
**Open up Android Flash 1.8 and plug in your device. Click on Recovery on the left hand side. It will prompt you to a folder (it wants you to open the Recovery image file I told you to place in "downloads") Either way find that file.
Click on the file and Android flasher will do the rest.
Im pretty sure it boots your screen for you but if it doesnt
To see if you successfully downloaded it:
** Power down your phone
**Press and hold the DOWN volume and POWER button
Move the volume up and down keys to select "RECOVERY" it is second down I do believe
Press the POWER button to select "Recovery"
**You will now be prompted to a screen witch is CMW recovery.
After that go to the "reboot" option.
To ROOT your phone(last step)
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
Just follow thier instructions. Its pretty easy!
After you have done that message me or google talk me [email protected]
needs help

HBOOT is different to recovery. You can get to HBOOT by turning your phone off, holding down the 'volume down' button and pressing the power button. A white screen with some text should then come up, which will show the HBOOT version, radio version and some other stuff. If you put the radio you want to flash into the root folder of your SD card, name it PG32IMG.zip and then boot your phone into HBOOT like this, you should be able to perform a radio update.

Hi i needed to update my radio as well. You dont need to rename it PG32. Just go and download the radio 06.03.03 from the ARHD thread, and go to the guide in that folder. Quoting the guide in the radio download folder :
Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
6. Done. Enjoy!
There. THat's what i did, i was not radio s-off but i still managed. good luck
Yep that works too... I just prefer to do it the way I described as yu don't need to bother plugging it in to a computer.

[Q] Beyond Confused

Long time Reader. First Time Poster. Ive read many posts over the past few months about rooting, But I think I am more confused then prior to reading them. My Warranty ends tomorrow for my Incredible S on Virgin Moible Canada. And I am looking to Root my Phone, But I do not understand totally all the talk about Radio's, different rom types ( IE Revolutionary, Cyanogen, and so on) the whole Bootloader unlock by HTC if it helps or hurts me. Also Cant seem to find an answer to some basic questions.
1. Do my exisiting Apps still work the same way? ( IE Angry Birds for my Kid, the FM radio and so on)
2. How do I get new apps in - Do we use the market still ( My icon still says market and brings to market - No PLAY for me yet
3. How Often does the roms update - ?
4. ICS, Foyo or Gingerbread?
5. What are the RUU? Bootloader and ADB?
I am basically looking at getting a new Kernal to Throttle down the CPU when not in use as my battery life is horrible, get rid of the BELL BLOATware as I do not even have bell TV, and various other tweaks.
Sorry I know these might be very a Nublet Question. But I did read all the threads and it left me a bit puzzled....

1. If you're just unlocking and rooting, the phone will not appear any different. The apps will work just like they did beforehand. However, if you flash a custom rom, you will have a clean slate. There are apps that can back up all the apps and userdata on the phone(Titanium backup is my personal favorite) and restore them to your new rom installation. However, they do require root access. So as you are a novice to rooting and Modding, I suggest you unlock, root and backup everything before you do any experimenting.
2. All roms can use the market/play store, Although CyanogenMod requires it to be flashed as a seperate package.
3. Rom updates can vary. If the dev is active and there's bugs or features that still need to be implemented, then you can usually expect regular updates.
4. Maybe, No, Probably.
5. An RUU is a Rom Update Utility. They are official updates from HTC packaged in a .exe file, digitally signed, region coded and model coded.
Bootloader is hboot, accessed by pressing the button combo volume down + power when switching on your phone from a completely shut down state. Here you can do a factory reset and enter recovery or fastboot mode.
ADB is android Debug Bridge, which you can send commands from your PC to your phone typically via USB.

So I take this as I dont need to install a custom rom? What are some non custom roms and is there any really difference.
Oh and I forgot to ask - what are the radios and how do those work. All the radio info i have seen is a bit jumbled and not sure which radio would work with what rom with what carrier and what phone and so one

You will be installing a custom Rom if you want to notice difference in performance battery life and appearance. I suggest flashing nikhils Rom posted on march 7th as its a excellent first time users Rom, and it still uses sense UI. All he was saying is that you will lose all current apps and their data from your phone but not things like music, pictures, files on sd card etc. Once you root your phone and install the clockworkmod recovery you'll see an option from within it to create a nandroid backup which will back up your current phone state completely including all apps their data and all settings, just in case you mess something up. Once you get s-off and root you will be able to use titanium backup to save your apps data for use on your next Rom after flashing.
As for radios you only need to change them if your going from a froyo Rom to a gingerbread Rom. Otherwise these only slightly increse reception and WiFi strength. Worry about getting s-off, root and flashing your new Rom first than maybe later get into radios.
Follow instructions carefully and you shouldn't have any problems, good luck.

Thank U both Very much - I will Have a look at the Post u stated. If I have any more questions I hope you don't mind me asking more lol
I assume U mean this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312021 - Now it says it needs a sep Kernel ( that later in the posts people cant find) . Doesnt the Rom have the Kernel? Do u do the Kernel after the rom is all install? and then How do u get the Market or Play reinstalled on it or do the roms come with it.
And what is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258 stuff for the Hboot and S-off - Not sure I understand all of that ether

I'm not sure if his rom includes a kernel as he is posting links for recommended kernels on the first page.
The s-off page you linked to is not for this phone. Follow lynt's newb guide to unlock the bootloader, install recovery and root. Once rooted you should stop, install titanium, backup all apps and data, then install the 4ext recovery app and use it to flash the latest 4ext touch recovery as this makes things easier for s-on users to flash to the boot partition. Then do a nandroid backup using 4ext recovery.
Sorry OP, totally unrelated, but i think we need to declare Nonverbose, itsbeertimenow & tpbklake as the official sentinels or guardians of the IncS general section.
way to go guys

Just from what Ive read - I 1000% agree and I am new here lol
Ok so my Info on the boot screen is
VIVO PVT S-On RL
HBOOT-1.13.0000
Radio 3805.04.03.27.27_M
So what I gather is since that hboot is not 1.16 it should be ok and i shouldnt need to to do the one step to revert it down to 1.13?

Yes you can use revolutionary to root and install clockworkmod which can be used to flash a new rom or not if you just want to stay stock rooted.

4. Install any rom u want ( guide to install is in the respective threads)
5. Take a backup of SD card in your PC

That is correct. You can use Revolutionary.io to gain S-OFF and install ClockworkMod recovery on your phone and then you are good to go and enjoy the flashing of custom ROMs.
Yeah do revolutionary to get s-off, during the process it'll ask you if you want to install cwm hit yea and report your status here.

Another side note: with your h-boot its generally impossible to brick your phone unless flashing radios (phone dies during process) or ruu's .

Cool beans, just checked out nikhills trinity Rom and there is no kernel to flash. All you have to do is follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
Another tip: when revolutionary asks you for a code to enter (not sure if it still does) copy and paste it or your going to get problems.
Also during your first wipe before install you can't wipe something wrong, just avoid sd card wiping lol.
When asked to place your .zip of the Rom in the root of your sd card, its unnecessary, you can navigate to it anywhere on your phone.
When the Rom installs for the first time it will take 3-5 minutes on the boot screen.
That should answer most of the questions your going to have in the near future.

A friend at work showed me his newly rooted Desire with http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/affinity.html Thinking maybe this one due to the fact it has its own Kernel built in. seems very fast and Uber. Anyone else had experience with it with the Incredible s?
Virtuous roms are quite brilliant..
You will not be disappointed...
its a shame that they longer are in the XDA forums,
team virtuous is one of my all time favorites
Having the kernel is common with most roms, you will find your phone is much more 'user friendly' once rooted and custom rom installed. I run virtuous affinity and didn't have to do anything but root, backup and then flash the rom.
Bloatware gone, speed and battery life increased, more customisation available and enjoyment of my device is improved tenfold.
You won't regret it but will wonder why it took you so long to get around to doing it It's like a whole new device....
