- Did google searches and on here but my problems seem different to others or I don't understand the solution.
I installed the stock orange latest rom not knowing it would rid me of root and all that so I'm trying to get back to recovery so I can nanbackup back to leedroid.
What I have done so far -
1) Downgraded (was an absolute pain, took many attempts seems that rooting twice screws things over)
2) Rooted using visionary+ - comfirmed I am rooted
3) Installed rom manager and reflashed recovery with it.
4) Open recovery and get a Red exclamation mark in a red triangle.
Interwebz tells me this means I have no recovery or am not rooted. I am rooted and I have reinstalled recovery.
What have I got to do to fix this?
Please do help
:EDIT:
had an idea while trying to cold boot into it it is reading the file i have on there to downgrade with and I think that is causing the problems.
:EDIT2:
didn't fix it. Sigh. Really need help guys.

ok my friend this could happen because you are not ablr to root the DHD perhpahs it has the last OTA or used an RUU to actualize to last version, doublecheck the firmware version on the phone, then i will explain a little more (i know its painful already have been victim by the rooting process)
good luck
I am getting so god damn pissed off with this. As I took my battery out for the 100th time I thought to my self mmm this is gonna break if I'm not careful and out pops my volume rocker. Had to bend it to get it back in. Don't evne understand why this is all happening. I did this all fine the first time around.
Firmware is 132.405.6
The rooting isn't the problem, its recovery which is.
Just discovered holding up and pushiung power button is meant to get you into CWM but i get "E:can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Annoyingly it lets me reboot and would ahve saved my volume rocker
:EDIT:
Christ I forgot to plug my phone up to the pc and run s-off. What a bloody moron.
I couldn't hate my self much more right now *strokes his bent volume rocker*
:EDIT2:
S-OFF didn't fix it either :/
Infact I can now no longer boot into recover, it freezes at the HTC logo.
Now that you have S-OFF, go to ROM Manager and reflash the ClockworkMod.

That didn't work, I had to manualy install it in the end. I now have V3.0.0.5 but I can't restore my backup because:
E:Format_volume: no MTD partition "boot"
What does this mean and how do I fix it? I need to get that backup back! It has everything :O
That backup was made with a V3 CWM. But I hear I need V2 to use with froyo? GAHHHHHHHHH.
Got to downgrade CWm now I guess. EURGH!
Rom manager wouldn't downgrade but I tryed upgrading to 3.0.0.6 in a hopeful attempt and appears to be working XD.
Then after alllll this I have to find out how to fix my echoing as it works on the stock rom so must be something i need to do to leedroid. I'm thinking radio change?
so i assume you finally downgraded to a "rooteable" android version... if still need help, send a PM so i will try to help u!
good luck!!

.... got it, you hace to plug the hd to pc, debbugginng on, (charge only) download the rom manager, reflash the klockwork, and try again
good luck!
So, a buddy of mine just called me flipping out because he has managed to brick his phone it seems. He isn't very experienced with it to begin with, but he got brave and decided to try it. So, he found some thread in some forum about rooting his D3 and he started uninstalling bloatware without first checking for a list of safe ones to remove. He apparently removed something that has caused a major problem. He says it is stuck in bootloader and won't get past the M splash screen. He thinks he needs SBF flash or fastboot image files.
I haven't had a chance to sit down and see what all he's done yet, but I figured I'd ask my fellow XDA members if anyone has done something similar and how to fix it.
I was thinking of using trying to find the stock OS files and see if I can flash them through recovery or Odin (if it exists for it).
Any thoughts?
Moto devices don't use Odin. They use .sbf files and RSD Lite. You're better off using a linux box with the sbf_flash binary. (The equivalent of heimdall.)
We don't have an SBF file yet. Chances are he softbricked unless he really screwed it up. If you have him run "adb wait-for-device shell stop" he should be able to push stuff back.
he doesn't see the boot animation at all? just the logo?
Roadmap to Custom ROM
1.Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com.
2.Flash a multi hboot recovery.
3.Root using the permanent root solution flashed via recovery, found here.
4.Flash S-OFF Hboot from unlimited.io.
5.Flash custom ROM with no problems.
To check your Unlock Token, Flash Recovery and S-OFF you should use the tool provided by me here .
This is the easiest guide to follow.. I'm also using this step to install custom Rom on my SXL before I got One X.. I'm also don't get it.. why people don't use unlimited.io trick.. it easier for me.
BTW.. it good to see a new dev for sxl.. it a good device.. but lack of developer.. wish you good luck with your project.

Agreed.
I've flashed on a lot of devices and the SXL guides are all a bit random.
The info is out there but sometimes you need to dig a lot to find it.
And a lot are out of date.
Hope this becomes the go-to guide for everyone and hope to see some dev work happening.
I think its time to move on for me..... getting flash withdrawal.

I'm just getting familiar with the forum and the device (almost 4 days since i bought it).
Soon enough if i have time (back2school), i will try to work on CM9 or CM10, depends, CM9 seems the obvious road to take as some work was previosly made by [vertigo], and some fixes are needed (he said that are kernel related), so i think i will try to fix his CM9 rather than port it again form scratch.
As for CM10, i think the best road to take is to compile AOSP JB from source and edit the kernel so it likes the jelly flavour.
If everything works as intedend, in a couple of months we should see both CM9 and JB/CM10 up and going.
(The worst thing is that i will surely need help, i think i can find around the forum, some testers already enrolled to the call to arms thread, so maybe we can build up a team., i really like this device )
I will say that some of the guides are if you were on a GB rom, and then installing a custom rom wasn't so easy, but since the upgrade to ICS it has become a lot easier, although I had noticed that it is easier to softbrick the phone if you don't flash the chinese boot.img and then chinese rom. Also s-off isn't essential for flashing custom roms...

Well, i'm fairly new to this device, but from what i've learned, the chinsese rom is optional if you have s-off, as s-off let's you to access all the partitions, system and other things you need.
Maybe i'm wrong, that's why i've started this thread, i think this is easier, and softbricking a phone with Android seems almost impossible to me...as i said, to me
Yeah I know the chinese rom is optional, but as I said from my point of view, once I'd flashed the chinese rom, I didn't manage to softbrick the phone where as before when I was trying various ports I managed to softbrick it a few times. Just my opinion and what I'd noticed with my device...
As for s-off mine (although broken) is still s-on and I've never felt the need to make it s-off. Again just my opinion

Well, i know what youre pointing at, i was just wandering when i first read te forum, why on earth should i install a Chinsese ROM when i will change it anyways for a new ROM...so the boot.img is a different one in the custom one, and other things.
I'm not so expeirenced with S-Off/On, as this is my first HTC phone i have and changed ROM (not too many HTC's in my area), but from what i've read online, S-Off is the best road to take to ensure you don't softbrick your phone, as you have the real "Full Control" over the Device and the ROM parts you can flash, like you, this is my opinion, a begginers opinion

Hi Lexmazter,
Thanks for making this guide, it is easy to follow. But I'm stuck at a small point and face below response; -
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Please let me know where did I do wrong? Thanks.
My steps were: -
factory reset
root via DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT
titanium backup worked and restore all apps and settings
unclocked the bootloader from htcdev.
all data gone, no more, like factory reset again
superuser app still exist, didn't root again
booted and rooted as you said
connect PC to phone via USB in charge mode only.
run your tool
doing select 5 Flash HBOOT S-OFF Unprotected (via adb) - choose hg hi both failed - but face above message 3 repeat lines.
reboot to bootloader FASTBOOT, >>>>>USB<<<<< appear
UNLOCK at top also appear
then select 4 Flash Recovery. (via fastboot) - then choose rei reg both failed - but face above message. 1 line.
Hope can teach me, thank you very much in advance.
And I'm sure I didn't do something right before hand.

Extract the contents of the archive in C:/ and try again, it is most likely because you are running from a folder that has spaces (" ").
Thanks for replying so quickly, some questions before sleep tonight.
I moved the folder to c:\xmtool and run as administrator as usual. But without connecting the phone, and select 5 flash H boot. The 3 repeat message appear still. Hahah, may be I want to test in theory.
Anyway, reading more more other post and try again this weekend.
Thanks !!!! many of your post and reply has been insightful.
Sorry if this might be a redundant post, but i assure you I searched a Lot (in XDA and web in general) for Viable Solve that Works and gets my Dell Tablet Finally Rooted?
BTW, while I am a newer member on XDA and by no means a developer, I am Not a Noob when it comes to these processes.
I've got experience rooting, as my G2x has been Rooted for months, running Hellfire Mod with no problems.....But my Tablet; a Dell Streak 7 is a whole other story.
I've tried Multiple times; different versions of S.O.C., reloading drivers (windows 7 devices & printers shows no yellow warning sign and when checking driver status within S.O.C. it shows No Issues), I've tried with Debugging On AND Off, Shut Down Anti-Virus, etc etc.

IF YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF DOING THIS WITHOUT THE USE OF FASTBOOT YOU DO NOT DESERVE ROOT!!!!
I don't know how many people have f***ed up their devices by using "one-clicks" so don't do it.
don't be lazy, get off your ass and do it properly, download a custom recovery boot into fastboot, use the command "fastboot flash recovery <insert name & directory to your CWM/TWRP.img here>"
FFS USE THE F***ING SEARCH FEAUTRE AS THIS METHOD OF ROOTING DEVICES IS ALWAYS THE SAME WITH DEVICES WITH UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS

You first Scream that if I cannot root Without Fastboot I don't deserve root!?? Most if not all custom DS7 ROMs come rooted with Superuser7. Use Fastboot to install a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP. You can then install the Superuser7 zip file using that recovery.
Thanks for the tip.......

This is Very Helpful Info! I've been going round in circles for too many hours going down the rabbit holes that are some of these threads here on xda. You're the first person who's mentioned we can flash a Custom Rom to root? Instead of tearing into me like Nocturnal without any help just put-downs, you offer a short, concise and easy enough (or so it appears, I'll let ya know) answer, rather than the full pages of command prompts and a dozen steps to perform and having to pull drivers from other manufacturers etc. etc.
I've found that with these DS Tabs they can be very tempramental depending on froyo, GB, HC Not to mention if the PC is 64 or 32 bit creates it's own other set of unique challenges from all the threads I've read.......like I said, no one just offered help with a reply to simply flash a CUSTOM Mod recovery? I thought this entire time, I needed CWM first?? Others suggested flashing cwm via renaming to recovery.img, but if as I posted previously, that's a no go if the DS7 not already rooted - as my Streak when in recovery mode looks for Only for Update img or zip files and doesn't recognize the recovery.img file I did as told placing on root directory of device......
Flashing a Custom Rom (brain cramped on the fact they have SU files too, noob error! makes sense and I can't think of any reason it won't work..........thanks again

Well, in order to root with Superuser7 on a stock DS7, you'd have install CWM and from there install the Superuser7.zip file. That's what I did, although my signature still shows that, I've moved on to other things.
If you really jacked your DS7 up, you might consider going back to Froyo using this NVflash: http://d-h.st/iXc then using the "stock" recovery to install an HC from this page: http://d-h.st/users/TheManii/?fld_id=1676#files. At that point install CWM from this page: http://d-h.st/users/TheManii/?fld_id=3717#files. Now Superuser from this page: http://d-h.st/users/TheManii/?fld_id=5593#files.
Don't ask why there are so many different versions of files there either! I wonder that myself as it makes for confusion.
Q&A for TF701 Root
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for TF701 Root. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

Help with root?
Nothing changed. You still have to unlock the bootloader, flash CWM from here: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3568, then flash SuperSU in recovery if you want to stay on stock or flash CROMi-X 7.0.3, CM11 or the AOKP rom from the development section.
pershoot is working on a CM12 Lollipop port which should be out within a few weeks - maybe

I have the same issue. The problem is unlocking the bootloader, as the Asus unlocker software doesn't work on 4.4.2. I guess downgrading is the only option, but so far no luck with finding instructions on how to do that... anyone?

The Asus unlocker does work on the latest version 4.4.4 or what ever it is (i don't remember) the website just wasn't updated.
You just need to keep trying until it recognizes.

Hmmm, that's good to know. Just to be sure, there's someone who's reportedly managed to do this? I've tried 20+ times without success.
edit. Let me rephrase, +100 times is more correct.
edit2. I tried for the 112th time, and this time IT WORKED! Thanks for the info. I don't know if it had any effect or if this was purely a hazard, but this time I had the dock on...
The dock would have been purely luck as it doesn't always come with one stock (depends on which country you buy it) and you don't require the dock for the unlock.
Just glad that it eventually worked for you.
bit worried
i had same problem with unlocking bootloader, but asus helped. they said, that because of all my repairs, something changed in their database and their unlocking app cant read this devcice properly. so they decided to unlock my tablet remote, from their development center, and i'll be free to root in a few days.
But i'm worried because of my 4.4 (11.4.1.30.)
is there anyone who rooted it with 11.4.1.30?
Wow! Remote unlocking? That's a first! Can't wait to see if they actually do it (and I wonder how!).
Once unlocked you can flash CWM and then SuperSU in CWM if root is all you want.
Will this work on 4.4.2 on the TF701? Can someone on 4.4.2 (11.4.1.30) try this?

Hi everyone,
'm currently trying to root my asus tf701t transformer and managed to unlock the decide and run bootloader. I'm stuck on installing recovery.img. I have moved the recovery.img file to my microSD card and the internal drive, launched adb fastboot and set it to bootloader. everytime i attempt to flash it, it says "error: cannot load recovery.img". have I put the recovery file in the correct place or have I done something wrong? i'm tearing my hair out trying to get past this stage!

The recovery . img goes on your PC, not your tablet. Your PC needs to find it to flash it to the tablet
To be specific, the img needs to be in the same folder as your fastboot.exe.
On your PC.
If that doesn't work you may not have the fastboot drivers installed.
What does <fastboot devices> return?
Post screenshots of your cmd window
You can also use flash tool on your PC to make things easier

Cannot boot twrp recovery
Ok,
First post and first attempt at rooting. Hope I don't screw it up... Too much.
I am trying to root my tf701 with zombi-pop, but can't get twrp to run.
Tried it with the recovery in the internal storage or in the same folder as fastboot.exe on my pc.
The tablet is unlocked and on latest firmware 11.4.1.30 ww sku.
When i get to the "fastboot boot 701_twrp_2870.img" stage on my pc I lose contact with the tablet. the cmd just hangs on "waiting for device".
I try typing "fastboot devices" and nothing shows up.
I have attempted numerous times, always with the same result.
Any help would be appreciated
Update - Fastboot driver wasn't recognised
I found a universal driver that fixed it.
I can't post the link as I'm a noob and thus not allowed, but I found it pretty easily once I started looking for universal adb drivers.
Hey, all. I've found a problem with my tf701 running CM 12.1. I have been using Webroot Backup & Sync to sync files on my external sd card (Samsung 64gb class 10 Micro SD). Since rooting the device I am unable to get webroot to locate my external storage.
Any suggestions would be great.
Hi Guys!
I've been installing a new ROM for my TF701T using the cromi-x ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf701/development/rom-t2839030/page78)
everything is looking peachy keen except I have lost root access. Do I need to rerun the root installation instructions steps or is it something else?

How did you loose root??? It's build into the rom! How do you know that you lost root?
Open the SuperSU app and update the binary. What does it say?
