cm7 on htc g1 - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I know that CM7 officially has dropped htc g1 from its supported devices list. I came across this url:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14750-cm7-for-dreamg1-available-now/
which is unofficial support.
I do not know from where to download the radion/spl it lists on the above link.
I came across another link and would like to know if I can use radio/spl on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983834
Then can I continue with CM 7 install ?
Regards,
Miten.

Yes you're right

flashing SPL / Radio via recovery isn't really recommended
here is ezterrys thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139

Just do it xD
I also did this like 34217839 times.

You must speak english here.
Nothing can happen if you just do it right, if you're a noob read the instructions more than one time, like me, when i did it the first time.

yeah true, but there are more and more things to be aware of, i keep adding warnings on my guide from known developers and also reccomend ezterry thread becaus he explains everything better, but like rush said as long as you follow the directions carefully and use ezterry's 2708/2825.zip files with extra security features, you should be ok...
be warned thought some radio's '1.22** 3.22**' are not compatible with most recovery converted img files... so please read directions very carefully and check out ezterry thread just for some knowledge about what you are doing...

Thank you very much for your indoctrination, but probably it's on you to respect the forum rules here, especially when I look at this post.

Thanks for reply. I am looking to try out CM7 rom and you pointed out some different ROM. is it fine that I use only radio and spl links that I mentioned ?
I have recovery from CM6 install already then still do I need to update recovery.
AndiSa has below links available. can I use them instead ?
Radio: 2.22.28.25
SPL: 1.33.0013d

I dont know why its droped :/ the MT3G is still inside the supported devices list.

There are two ways to flash the new SPL / Radio - Combo
1. you mentioned the way to flash it via recovery
2. the other way is to flash it via fastboot ( recommended way )
the link in AndiSa's signature is the same as the link i have posted in my first post. you can use it.

spl and radio
Hi,
I have CM6 compatible spl and radio installed. If I upgrade spl and radio since I was to try out unofficial CM7 on htc g1 and then have to say back out using nandroid backup (of current working CM6) will it undo spl and radio upgrades too ?
Regards,
Miten.

no, it won't undo SPL/Radio upgrades

installed CM7 successfully
Hi,
I installed CM7 fine with below steps:
1) download fastboot for linux downloaded via internet search.
2) store on linux android sdk platform-tools where adb resides.
3) reboot into bootloader the android phone and it shows FASTBOOT
4) connect phone to linux
5) fastboot devices
shows phone
6) fastboot flash radio <path to radio downloaded for CM7 on usb)
7) fastboot flash hboot <path to hboot/spl downloaded for CM7 on usb)
8) fastboot erase system
9) powerdown phone
10) power up phone into recovery using home+power
11) flash from sdcard rom, kernel, gapps
12) reboot
may be I will add more details to above steps later.

well since ull be flashing an original rom uspl will not be needed..
you can actually download the official ROM from HTC website (at least in Asia, not sure about Europe). In fact, from HTC website, they have telco-specific ROM (such as Starhub and Telstra).
I have done it before, downgrading dutty 3.7 ROM to stock/official using the official ROM update package, and it'll revert back my SPL to 1.12 as well. But I was on SPL/USPL, so I'm not sure with your hard SPL, would your base be downgraded as well, but my guess is it should.

i'm using USPL too
Sorry to sound a dumb ass, but i want to make sure i get this right, cant find much on down grading just upgrading
i've downloaded this file
RUU_BlackStone_Orange_UK_1.19.61.1.rar
and it extracts as
ruu_signed.nbh
can i just use this file from dutties rom
BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe
and put the .nbh file in the same folder?
the only method i know how to flash is as below
1. put phone into bootloader mode
2. run blac_uspl.exe (for 1.56 roms)
3. wait for the cmd prompt to establish a connection
4. run BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe which had the dutties rom in same folder
based on that info, do i do that same thing to downgrade?
if someone could let me know which steps i need to follow/mis out that would be great thanks

Since you have Dutty's 3.7 on your device at the moment and you are going to restore the stock Orange rom you need to restore the stock SPL that came on your phone before you flash the rom. Otherwise you will be running a newer SPL that is not supported with the older Orange rom and will have distortion and compatibility issues.
To restore your phone to stock you need to:
1. Flash original SPL - most likely 1.14.0000 since the rom versions for Orange are 1.14.xxxx and 1.19.xxxx.
2. Flash original rom.
If you need help restoring the original SPL look in the HSPL thread where it says "How to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!"
If you still can't figure it out after that, let me know.
also take note of youre sending it back due to faults they wont checkit they just send you another and replace the motherboard

[Q] Few ROM and SPL Questions

I've got a few questions, hope no one minds answering. If it's a simple case of RTFM then lock the thread and trash.
1. I've rooted and am using the latest JF build but when I go to telnet I can't connect to localhost anymore. Is this normal?
2. I'm running stock SPL and Radio (not too sure what the radio is btw). Is it best I update before flashing anymore roms?
3. I'm wanting to flash to Cyanogen Mod rom, it looks a lot more complex than simply renaming the rom to update.zip then flashing. Is it safe to assume that there is a lot more work to do? (if so a general point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated).
I really appreciate any help.
Thanks
1. I'm not sure as it has been some time since I last used JF's build I'm afriad...
2. Its advisable at the very least to upgrade your radio (look at my signature for a link). You can upgrade your SPL too providing you have flashed the latest radio FIRST and that you are on a PVT motherboard.
Boot into the SPL to find that out (turn off/reboot the mobile, Hold CAMERA+POWER). It should say at the top.
3. To use Cyanogen's ROM its like flashing any other ROM. Just make sure you have the latest Radio FIRST. Also I believe it works fine for non Apps2SD users so no need to partition your SD card etc to use it.
Hope that helps.

Unless it was updated while rooting it's probably "G1 Original SPL"
Thanks NeoBlade, I'll update the radio and spl tomorrow then probably try and get nandroid running so I've got a backup in case anything goes wrong.
No worries digital, just do your usual pre-checks before flashing the SPL and remember Radio first ^_-
You'll enjoy the new features and performance improvements using the latest cooked ROMs out there. Most of the info is in my signature but you can also flash the new Recovery image too by Cyanogen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523558).
Not only can you create a Nandroid backup from there, you can also restore it too all from your mobile ^_^
Not to be an @ssh*le, but if you root your phone don't you already have the HardSPL? If you follow Koush's guide you were told to flash the HardSPL which isn't the stock SPL at all. Care to shed some light on this?
He could have had the engineering SPL, I remember having that briefly myself in the early days. The main thing is that he just wants to run Cyanogen's ROM so as long as he updates the radio and flashes the ROM without issues it should be fine. Unlike some Hero ROMs it doesn't require the latest SPL to create space for the ROM.
Granted though, its often always nice to have the latest stuff ^_-
Ok well if you DECIDE to update to the latest radio and SPL just go to my guide below and go to the second post. That will tell you how to install the radio and spl updates!
Good luck!
Indeed ^_^ And once that's done, perhaps change the title to SOLVED so people know. We shall have to wait for digital to get back to us about it.
This is the guide I used:
http://haykuro.theiphoneproject.org/?page_id=35
Sorry alritewhadeva:
I'm on the HardSPL so I guess I don't need to bother updating that again. I didn't get to the point where it said to update to the newest radio.
Reading a bit further it also says that I can do a backup easily using adb which is already setup. At some point in the process it must have installed the things needed for nandroid backup. I think it was the recovery.img part.
Thanks for the great link Nephron, I used it before to setup adb on my netbook (running win7 on my main machine).
Before I flash the latest radio is it safe to do this *after* updating the spl?
Thanks for all the great help, I really appreciate it.
As a thumb of rule, always flash the radio first before the SPL and the ROM.
Tell us how it goes ^_^ If you've managedto do it, could you please edit the title then to add SOLVED? Good luck.
Soo do you have to flash the radio and SPL everytime you want to flash a rom??? i already have the latest radio, i just want to make sure i dont make a mistake

No you don't. Only once... then kind of keep an eye on the forum to see if better radio or SPL comes along. So far I had to update my radio once. What recovery image do you have (home+power), is it still JF1.43? You should update that to CM 1.4, you get a lot more flexibility with that... read up on it in development forum. All in all, unless you plan to install Hero anytime soon (and I personally don't recommend it, too slow and buggy) you should be good with (in that very order)
1. Flashing newest RADIO (Haykuro has it in the link you provided, only need to do it once and you already did it!)
2. Flashing HardSPL (you already did that too! no need to do it again)
2. Updating your Recovery Image (once more, this only needs to be done once)
After that - flash any rom you feel like at any time you feel like doing it.
Hope that helps, good luck!
I agree with everything borodin1 said. If you're on a 1.5 ROM you really should have the new radio already, but you can always go back and flash it. Afterwards you'll want hard SPL or haykuro's. Haykuro's is what you'll need for most HTC based ROMs (Hero, Rogers). Most people brick when flashing Haykuro's ROM because they don't read. Aslong as you have the new radio and a PVT phone (go to the bootloader - home + camera - and it should say PVT) you will be fine.

6. do i need to flash the Radio manual or do the apk make this

All questions should be posted in the Q&A Section. I'm not too familiar with the 1-click rooting since it's been out for less than 72hrs so from what I've heard the 1-click root flashes cyan's recovery for you so all you have to do is this:
-Download and flash newest radio
-Download and flash Hard SPL
-Wipe
-Download and flash CM v4.0.1
If you do it in this order I'm 99.99999% sure you won't brick your phone, but once again please post all future question in the Q&A section

Yes, this app worked perfectly for me ( cuz I dun wanna waste my time doing all the porcess of pulling the firmware back to RC29 ). If u have the latest radio, then just execute the .apk, turn off your phone right after doing all the required process from that app ( back up current img then Flash the 1.4 img from Cyanogen I remember ), then go into recovery mode and you have the newest recovery img. (Remember to put the CyanogenModv4.0.1 to your SD first). Then Wipe and Flash the update, and you're done
and it works without flashing SPL????

hard spl will not brick your phone. it is needed to flash roms from other regions than yours. hard spl is a good thing to have. also with it you can flash nandroid back ups and you can change your splash screen to further personalize your dream. enough said... go download it. flash it. if you have to wipe, then wipe. if you don't like wiping then you should not have rooted in the first place.
but to use this tool have id need to flash the SPL or works it with the original SPL too? in the manual and one the youtube video- there is no info about a need to flash the SPL.
all i want to know is:
can i just install this app, flash the new radio, run the backup, flash recovery, flash CFW, and iam done or not
yes you can do that. afterwards i would recommend flashing the hard spl.
you do not have to flash it, but it would be a good thing.

thanks, should i flash the radio befor i try to root my G1 with the 1-click rooting? or after i flashed the custom FW?
I used the "1-click root"
I followed all the steps and my phone is working fine, but how can you tell if its rooted?
Also, if it is rooted and I wanted to install the most current cyanogen ROM, do I have to install the new radio and SPL files?
Thanks in adv for putting up with my N00Bness.
what build do you have now? rc33? i would first update the radio. i would not mess with the newer spl as it has been known to brick phones. also did you install cynogen's recovery image? turn phone off then hold power button and home key when you turn it on to put you back into recovery image. it should say cynogen recovery 1.4 on top. it will have a number of options on the bottom nandroid backup, restore nandroid etc. if that cynogen"s recovery image is on the phone its rooted. after you flash the latest radio, i would flash jf 1.51 build then cynogens latest build. i heard the going to cynogens latest build will cause a bootloop if your not coming from another modded build.

To tell if the phone is rooted, download terminal emulator from the market and type su at the prompt. If the phone is rooted, the prompt should go from a $ to a #. If not, you will get a permission denied error message. If that is the case, probably go the old fashion way of rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548924
As far as the SPL and radio, you don't need the danger SPL (haykuro's) but you will need to engineering SPL or hard SPL to install custom ROMs. As far as the radio, you want to latest radio to improve calls, bluetooth, etc.

[Q] How to install SpoofSPL? (I want "stock" CM6.)

Phone: T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream
Recovery installed: RA-dream-v1.7.0
SPL installed: 1.33.0013d
Radio installed: 2.22.28.25
I was trying to install CM6 stock and ended up with a reboot loop (2708 issue?). I wanted to go with the "official" CyanogenMod 6 for documentation reasons.
I found information on "SpoofSPL" to get stock CM6 to work. The instructions for use are rather poor, and I haven't been able to find any information that helped me with it.
SpoofSPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9068311&postcount=84
The instructions seem to say "just flash it". Ok. When? Before installing the ROM? After?
I tried this:
- wiped device ("fastboot system erase -w", etc)
- installed SpoofSPL via Recovery
- Typed "reboot recovery", per on-screen instructions (via "adb shell")
- installed CM6
* fail * (reboot loop)
- wiped device ("fastboot system erase -w", etc)
- installed SpoofSPL via Recovery, but did not reboot.
- installed CM6
* fail * (reboot loop)
- wiped device ("fastboot system erase -w", etc)
- installed SpoofSPL via Recovery, but did not reboot.
- installed CM6
- installed SpoofSPL again (I saw a post where someone said do it last)
* fail * (reboot loop)
What is the correct install method?
Is it possible to *verify* that it even installed or did anything?
just flash it
all it does is setup your recovery image to pass a kernel command to override the bootloader version so checks in the updater-script pass
BUT it will make no difference to the newer CM 6 ROMs as all of the checks were removed
see this commit

So stock CM6 not booting has nothing to do with my SPL (1.33.0013d), but instead because I'm using Radio 2.22.28.25?

if you have problems in installing, you should spoof SPL, if you have problems in booting you most likely need an adapted (2708) kernel.
im having this problem too
stock CM6 doesn't support 2708 or 2825 radio
you must flash a compatible kernel
spoofing the SPL will only let you get round the checks without needing to edit the updater script
but as I mentioned above the checks were removed
DS: Remove radio/bootloader checks by request. GOOD LUCK!

I wanted to go with "stock" CyanogenMod since it's one of the few (only?) ROMs that has a "real", dedicated site for it.
It's documented, has a wiki, and it's own forum. From a professional viewpoint, it's the one to get.
Most ROMs and kernels are from "random person X" on "random site Y", have little-to-no documentation, poor or incomplete documentation, "mystery files" packed in, etc. With so many kernels and ROMs posted all over, how am I supposed to know what to use?
Is there some site where I can find what most people use on a G1?

Not to drive you away from Cyanogenmod. Have you try looking at SuperAosp? They have a dedicated site and they only support their ROM there only. The only thing is the site is in Spanish. They currently just released Rom SuperAosp 6.0 for HTC Magic & Dream (I have not install it yet) this past weekend. It's supposed to be faster and more stable with the battery (according to the members here that already installed it).
There also have a [ROM][email protected] GINGERBREAD 2.3.3 forum that keep up the status here for XDA Members.

xda
and you failed to keep it stock by installing 1.33.0013d
that spl is not directly supported by CM
you must use a compatible kernel - stock cm6 does not have compatible kernel
if you want CM 6
flash it
then flash the kernel I linked
or do your own research
I won't be spoon feeding you again as you just spat it out.
@BitingChaos - Effdee has already provided you with what you need to do. I suggest that you follow it, if CM6 is what you want to use. You needs to have a compatible Radio/SPL to the ROM or it will not work.
Either that then flash other ROM that will be compatible to what Radio/SPL you already have.

[GUIDE] How to install 1.33.0013d HBOOT and 2.22.28.25 via recovery

Warning: Please do this at your own risk. This is not the safest method for doing this. It is much safer to flash this with fastboot. Although there are lots of good reactions in doing thid. I am not responsible for damage or even bricking your phone - Do not skip anything here, please follow everything on this post.
Today I am going to teach you how to flash the 1.33.0013d/2.22.28.25 combo in Amon RA recovery! Like I said, this is not the recommended method, but it works, when you follow EVERYTHING on this post.
WARNING:
1) flashing a 2.22 radio via recovery if you have a 3.22 or 1.33 radio via recovery *will* brick your phone
2) flashing the 1.33.0013d spl with a 1.22 radio via recovery *will* brick your phone
So, first off, you have to be rooted.
When you are rooted, you have to have Amon_RA recovery installed. On how to do this, I have a tutorial for it here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623954
Now, you have to upgrade your phone to Danger/Engineering SPL. It's called like that, because it has a danger of bricking your phone, and it enables fastboot - a tool, that gives you the oppertunity to flash ROM's and such from your computer.
It's like a recovery, but from your computer. To do this, click here:http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Dream:_DangerSPL
After you do THAT, you can finally start to flash the 1.33.0013d SPL and 2.22.28.25 Radio. This will produce 14 mb of extra RAM for you, but won't be able to play 3D games, like Temple Run. But the 14 mb of RAM really makes a difference. Also you won't be able to use CyanogenMod ROM's, although you can temporarily switch back to Danger SPL. Just look in the EzTerry thread.
You can find the links for those down below:
HBOOT: http://code.google.com/p/g1tools/downloads/detail?name=HBoot-1.33.0013d.zip&can=2&q=
Radio:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43135125...22.28.25_S.zip
Now, put all file to your SD-Card, and reboot into recovery. *TIP* If things go bad, please make a Nandroid/BART backup before you do anything. And one thing, make sure that your phone battery is full, as in green LED, before you flash any Radio/HBOOT, or simply plug your phone into your charger. Now, go to the wipe section in your recovery, and just wipe everything, like press every option you have and wipe. Or simply use Oshaka SuperWipe. Oshaka SuperWipe is reccomended, because it wipes some things, that your recover does not.
After your wipe, go to install zip form SD-Card, then pick your Radio file (update-2.22.28.25 blah.zip and install it. If it reboots or goes to a unpack a MyTouch 3g screen for 3 minutes or so. WHILE YOU'RE DOING THIS;DO NOT IN ANY WAY INTERRUPT THIS; THIS WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE; IF IT STAYS FOR 10 OR SO MINUTES; YOU MAY DID SOMETHING WRONG AND YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE , SO DON'T BE IMPATIENT BY PULLING YOUR BATTERY! After that it reboots and goes back to recovery. Then go to Flash zip from SD-Card and choose the HBOOT-1.33.0013d.zip file. It will install itself and remember, dont be scared by long waiting times. Now, if you did what I said, power off your device and press [POWER+CAMERA] . It says:
DREAM PVT 32B SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.33.0013d
CLPD-4
RADIO-2.22.28.25
Congrats! You just installed a new Radio/SPL combo!
If I helped you, please push that 'Thanks' button!
There might be some exceptional reasons to use recovery to flash a radio/spl, *but* if you have already a fastboot capable spl installed on your phone, there are almost no reasons left ...
Learn to use fastboot and flashing of radio/spl is much more relaxing

I said that they have a choice between fastboot and recovery and i reccomended to use fastboot. It is a choice, for me it's much easier to use recovery. fastboot is a little too much for me, so that's why I did this. Also, I think you have a stock spl/radio, you have higher risk to brick your phone. It's in the warning section.
Hi
Can you point me to a guide on how to flash the 1.33.0013d spl using fastboot.
Thanks.

Thanks for reading my post!
Quick question about 28.25 radio. I've already read the post of differences of 27.08 and 28.25. But I can't seem to send MMS. I can receive but when I send it says sending, and stays that way, could this be fixed by updating to 28.25?
Sent from my Dream using xda app.
ROM: Ginger Yoshi
SPL: 0013d
RADIO: 27.08
RECOVERY: Amon-Ra
Okay so I figured the mms out, APN config. As for the radio I didn't see any difference at all. Its more of an area thing I guess either way. Flash the radio test it out and look for diferences, as for me I'm going to go flash 27.08.

DEVICE: HTC DREAM (G1) 32B

SPL: 0013D HBOOT
