Just bought a used cappy, dropped it an cracked screen. Launched it at my wall. The screen turned to goo, lol. Point of impact was almlst squarely on the bottom of phone. Nothing other than the screen seems damaged. Think there may be some internal damage or ... Or?

well there is always a possibility that it is now trash. U might try to connect thru adb and see if it connects. That's all I can think of.

I see thank you. Any chance adb has a way to run diagnostic tests? I suppose if I could work with adb Its safe to assume none of the /neural/ connections arent broken. My concern is mainly the sensors.

Well if you can access SGS tools, there is a diagnosis option for all the sensors and Keys. You may wanna check it out
This includes vibrator, proximity, touchscreen, GPS, bluetooth, Wifi.. Another testing mode is *#0*#
You guys are lifesavers. Next chance I get to fool with it ill post results.
Thanks!

Ooooook, were in for a long one.
So, I got my screen in yesterday, installed, everythings works like a charm. Exceeept, any service. (edit: proximity in sgs does nothing.) Screen came with whole, intact front housing. Just switched mobo, back housing, battery and door over.
I have flashed and reflashed to no avail and im certain ill find grey hairs when I wake up. ODIN barely worked for me.. 3 click gave me kernal error and 1 click is eeeextremely tempermental on this captivate. I literally have been researching/trying to flash for 12+ hours.
Finally stable running andromeda 2.1 - thank you jesus
No service on stock nor andromeda 2.1
Info..info.. Hmm where to start..
When runnin sgs tools:
-I CANNOT see my IMEI (null/null)
-Most buttons take me to service mode (right hardkey. Back use menu)
-In pda/phone/cnc- phone and cnc are unknown. Pda is i9010xxjl1
I feel like I am missing something here.. Maybe its my body telling me bedtime was 9 hours ago.
Thanks for readin guys.

Edit: csc not cnc lol
So, im googling and forum searching and I find that older posts talk of also downloading the phone tar and csc tar. All of which are older an I donthink any go along w my current kernal? Sheesh I jus wanna go to bed lol

Come on people, there are a million dumb, answered threads out there. No feedback at all? Surely some of you have answers or ideas.

Dumb questions are easier to answer... besides, not much hope for a physically damaged phone. : /
Im jus feelin, that it doesnt really require an intuitive leap or anything. Its either from bad flashing or a replacable part. I can figure this out, im juss asking about what im havin a hard time finding myself.-the csc and phone, if it has anything to do with not getting service, or not being able to read my imei from sgs.
Could someone load sgs-pda/phone/csc version- an verify csc an phone? Surely you can see your imei?
And
For the repairmen, got an idea if its the mobo or card reader board?
I wanna fix this, its fun.

It's mostly for Android, actually. The devs says "it's built like a tank" so it should be able to hold the tab (with a future add on).
The question however is good, maybe i'm not up to speed, but last time i checked the tab couldn't handle properly Wiimotes and so on.
Snes9x has already built in support.

Kinda cool, but it would make the tab enormous

Just need a kickstand case for the tab and use it as a portable home console...get it without the bumpers..... wireless controllers B)

A pretty cool idea. This would have to be used without trying to clamp in the tab though. As already stated, it would make the tab HUGE
Really itching to buy this....... waiting for cm7 to be fully operational on my Epic4G before I make the buy..... when I do I will be doing some extensive testing on my SGT :-D

just got mine. I haven't tested the keyboard mode yet, I'm writing code to talk to it in SPP mode. It works extremely well and is much better than the BGP100 (less lag, better build quality), and better than the Zeemote (better bt compatibility, better ergonomics). The price is the only downside

It`s been anounced by Vodafone_AU that now they are testing Gingerbread for Galaxy Tab, and we will get it hopefuly this summer
2.3 is out and there is no update for us????
I called them this week and the service center guy said that there were no plans as of yet to update it at all.
I have a sneaking suspicion that gongerbread is goibg to be the last update for all original tabs. Samsung is probly thinking, you want our sweet ass new os, buy our sweet ass new tab.

i am sellin my Samsung Galaxy Tab on amazon.co.uk........
i will not buy the 10.1 model even if the 7 one won't get gingerbread , simply 10.1 is too much for me even the 8.9 is too big , the galaxy tab 7 in not in competiton with the others it is another category
Greetings all.
I recently got a new sgs3, so my cappy was just sitting there.
So, even though I was still updating it, I was not really using it.
So I basically have made it a multimedia device.
I have it set on airplane mode with Wi-Fi on. Its got my music and a few games on it. I also loaded audible.com app on it and I sync all my books to it. Since audible now syncs where you are in books, this is a fantastic feature.
What do you use you're old cappy for?
Sent from some random app on some random android device.
flashing endless roms!
I use my Captivate for music.

Still using mine!
Going strong now with a brand new 1800mAh battery and running AOKP
I flash new nightlies and use it around home / the office / the gym on WiFi when I want to conserve my Nexus 4's battery or don't want it to get broken.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Mine's getting flashed to stock and traded with my wife's whose power button stopped working. I'll use her old phone for testing apps on Gingerbread and as a backup in case something happens to the Nexus 4 or her phone.
It's been nice. Would've been 5 times nicer if GPS was adequate.

Gave it to the GF
Gave it to my girlfriend, totally converted her from iphone to android. Of course this is after itunes, or the icloud, ot something totally ate her 100 gig music collection. Now all her music is on my server and she can get to it from wherever on the cappy. She doesn't have to even pay an annual fee.
She just has to make me a sammich.
Hahaha... me too

who you callin old?
I recently got someone elses 'old' Cappy, my second, and the plan was to use it for testing ROMs, but it has been a battle thanks to it already getting ATTs GB "upgrade"! lol
Running Paranoid Android/AOKP on it. Some people can't afford to upgrade phones on a whim ya know
Mounting mine inside to view outside IP cam, control media, etc

Just picked up an s3 for the wife and a nexus 4 for myself to replace our Cappy's.
Is there ea ROM specifically designed to not be a phone? If not what ROM are you running old Cappy for non phone functions.
I've also considered use as a dashcam, but i think it might invite break-ins lol.

Simply keep the phone in airplane mode, the less widget possible and have it on conservative = best battery life for non-phone functions.
For games although, you might not wanna have it on conservative. On demand is a great middle.
use it for daily life :fingers-crossed:
Gave it to my girlfriend to try to convert her from crapple..... if 4.2 doesnt do it shes just to far gone to save.

For those looking to lose the phone functions check this out:

I have modded the hell out of it and gave it to my girl, she's so happy cuz I gave her an android phone and she's never had a smartphone, so to her discovery of all the mods Ive done to it, she has been promoting my business so I been busy and away from here doing that and wow, who'd have thought two years ago I'd have started a business Modding and repairing computers for people...
Still my daily driver, KitKat seems to be running solid with CyanAoSP, so I guess I will use it til it breaks, which I don't think is likely to happen!

Looking to buy a new phone soon, and just wanted your views on whether this phone has gone aged.

If your price range allows I would invest in an s2 otherwise this is still a highly supported phone

In my opinion it's worth buying

You could also consider the i9001 (Galaxy S Plus), which looks exactly the same as the i9000 but has quite different hardware. At least on paper it's quite a bit better and not nearly as expensive as an SII. I've got one of those and am really happy with it
Yes but the i9001 only has slightly faster CPU and slower graphics you can easily set the i9000 to the same clock speed as the i9001

A rooted Galaxy S I9000 is still pretty good, but if you can afford it I recommend you the Xiaomi MI-2.
I personally think that the i9000 is a great phone. It was my first Galaxy class and is still with me
I rooted the phone and switched over to running JellyBean (SlimRom version) and think it is just great. I do prefer the S2 just because it is that much faster, but finding it hard to part with my trusty original
Good all round phone but a little slow on some of the major games (I believe - though cannot vouch for that)
