If you inherited Apple... - Off-topic

What would you do??? I ask here looking for respones from andoid fanboys/iphone haters and wonder, would you change it? Would you make iOS open-source, or would you leave things be as is? The customer base and following are already massive, with rediculos profit margins so what would you do?

make all the patents open source for the community
all the devices will use standard usb connections
make iOS open source
Apps Store will host any software from any developer
upgrade the iphones
upgrade the ipads
make iphone/ipad with battery replacement doors for each battery change
make iphone/ipad with USB ports
bring the MAC PC / laptops up to date with the rest of the world
make the Mac OS open source, as it was originally where its roots was from
reduce the price
drop itunes, make music/video download from App Store
and much more

Close it.

Restart the philanthropic projects policy that Steve Jobs cancelled in 1994, start donating a shed load to cancer research rather than keeping it all for myself and stockholders.

Review all of the company's policy, make it open source, share its technology with the rest of the world, and ultimately, Goople anyone?

Here's what I would do:
Switch to Linux from xnu for apple operating systems
Full osx on ipad.
Open source all of ios except the app store (keep that on apple products only)
3rd party apps without jailbreak
Make it easier for developers to do their thing
Android on iPhone as an option

Good answer. Hopefully that would stop the needless patent lawsuits.

dang wish i could edit and add a poll, i guess the main answer i was looking for would be would you
1) SELL OUT
2) MAKE DRASTIC CHANGES
3) CONTINUE TO RUN BUISNESS AS IS

Nothing. Well maybe be a little bit more liberal, but nothhing on the business side.

Leave it as is. No point changing Apple. The simple and easy design suits their customer base. Plus if people want usb and open source etc, that is what androids is for

Because rather than win back market share by improving their product, they've chosen to stiffle competition by using lawyers.
My question would be "how could you have any respect for apple in the first place?" considering what an awful company they are and how badly they treat their customers (as a company, not as customer facing staff).
In 1994 Steve Jobs closed down all philanthropic activities at apple to save money. Now they have "more money than the US gov" those activities still haven't been restarted.
People slate Bill Gates and microsoft, but they forget the Gates foundation gives more money to help aids victims in the developing world than the rest of the world combined.

Yup. He might be a pr1ck when it comes to business, but he pr1cks around well.
Steve Jobs used his money and resources to save his own life, and only AFTER experiencing the hell that was cancer did he even have the inkling to give a little to the community.
Gates, for all the evil that he started in Micro$oft, is planning to give away HALF of his worth. He's pushing for education and technology that will change the world, and I am almost ready to forgive him, and then somebody pointed out Windows Vista.
ADDENDUM: ROTFL, OT is really OT, I forgot to even mention the OP in my first post!

that is pathetic -.-
Its just simple business, destroy the competition before they grow even stronger. This extends itself beyond phones to ipads, tablets and anything that competes with Apple.
After all Google acquired the developer of Android in 2005 and it was listed as distributed in 2007. Only until recently have Apple became very agressive in terms of suing and other lawsuits etc. Why? Because he realised just how much of a threat Android has become.
Windows could copy him, he woudnt have cared less but after all, last quarter of 2010 Android was listed as the best selling platform with over 190million Android devices to date.
Only makes sense for Apple to want to curb this growth although the reality is those who loves Apple products will never learn. They could release an iphone 5 with next to no new features and people will still go crazy and line up for days to buy it. They cant do any wrong but those Apple fans should be thanking the healthy competition Android provides because its due this competition that both platforms have lifted their game to out do eachother. SG2 is only as good as it is so it can sell agressively, its the only way potential Iphone owners will consider swapping and due to Android phones like this, Iphone have to provide more features to continue growing instead of crap like Iphone 4s which really is a pathetic upgrade (well not for Apple given how limited the Iphone 4 was) but in reality the features it offers is what many Android phones (LG, Motorolla, HTC, Samsung) have offered for a while.
Either way i dont mind Apple being popular, it forces Android phones to be even better so consumers win either way
I love android but He was good man
I think it's actually quite sad and pathetic the obsession he buiilt up about destroying Android, never mind fairytales about stealing it was all in his mind, he thought he was the main man and Apple were THE most advanced when it came to technology but couldn't hack it when Android came in and pulled the carpet from under him and Apple so decided to cry foul and accuse them of all sorts and issue patent after patent, that doesn't sound to me like a "technology genius" rather a bitter man who simply couldn't accept Apple were being brushed aside by Android.
Anyway this is probably for the general forum.
Just my two cents anyway.
I think he won't succeed.
Who cares what Steve MOD EDIT Jobs said, he was just a glorified marketing man. Apple is rotten to its core - a bit like Jobs now.
I think Larry Ellison will destroy Android for him.
I think that, without Steve Jobs, we wouldn't have these fancy android phones. There wouldn't be a dual-core 1.2ghz phone running an extremely customizable O.S without Apple creating the iPhone. But now there is.
Its called innovation. Company 1 makes a product that sells well. Company 2 "copies" them and creates a different and/or better product. Company 1 then releases an upgrade and tries to beat. Company 2's product. Its never ending and allows for products to improve at an extremely fast rate. That is, until company 1 sues everyone who improved upon their product and is now outselling them!

Was surprise in Steve's book about the bit on Gorilla glass. Was invented in the 60s but Corning couldn't find a use for it. The original iphone was suppose to have a plastic screen but Steve wanted it with glass instead. So his friend suggested he talk to Corning about it.
Corning haven't been making this stuff and Apple wanted this stuff in 6 months for the launch. They converted an lcd plant and got their best people to make the glass.
Apple should have taken out an exclusive license on it. Who knows maybe Steve thinks Andriod stole the glass too.
Android Central posted a good article on this subject: http://tinyurl.com/6l5ps8z

Well in one of the many many Steve job biographys out there he was quoted as saying " I dispise android. I really do. Having them run out of the mobile market is just not enough. I want them destroyed. I want them to have no existance on this planet. I (Steve Jobs) will spend every penny in Apples bank, and every resource in my power to make sure it happens.".
I'm at work I will find the proper links and citations later .
Later on he was also quoted as saying " Why should some one (Android) be getting fame and money off of a stolen OS, with stolen features? It makes no sense to me as to why so many people love and adore such a dishonest company."
When I read that I was left speechless. Talk about Hippocrates.

Short question.

My question. In the field of computer programming at this stage is it worth the 2 year investment of time and money to get a degree in computer programming? I'm 28 married with 4 kids. Is it a good possible career choice? I know its mostly dependent on whether you care enough to be good at it. Or is it a field that is flooded with new talent making it not so much worth it unless it been your passion since you were in your teens?

Short answer for a short question. Lol.
But seriously. The job market is saturated with programmers and unless you have some programming experience it will be difficult. Also, if you still want to do it then pick up some text books and read it yourself. I can send you a C++ and a Java book in pdf. The ones I'm using this semester.

The PDFs would be great. Pm me for email. Though I don't known if a saturated market now with as many people out of work as there are will necessarily be so saturated in 2 year. I personally don't think that the american economy is ready to quit nor is the american spirit of in general. Sorry I know I said short question and turned it into a much longer question. If you're only in it for the money you won't go far. If computers/programming is something you're passionate about there's no limit to what you can do. People who love what they do are always successful compared to people only in it for the money because when they love what they do it becomes apparent in their work.
So would it be a bad idea for me to go into computer science when I go to college in 4 years?

I don't know that I can agree with that. While someone who has a true passion for something can be better than someone that doesn't would you really feel comfortable with a complete moron with a passion for cars to do your brakes? Its a simple enough system but should a step be missed the consequences could be deadly. Think about the mechanics from the Jim Carey movie the mask. for anyone to make a career of something over a hobby the major motivator is undoubtedly money. No matter the passion for you'll find very few people who would work on a strangers car for free. Me personally I am very passionate about cars. I enjoy restoring them, modifying them, adding that custom touch to make it stand out. Would i make a career of it? No I found after years in the industry I much prefer it as a hobby. Even though I have made insane money selling cars that I've restored or even my 10 second street legal camaro. I have a closet full of trophies from the 71 super Beatle restoration project I did in high school and spent a year and a half trailering to shows. I've also started at a restaurant as a bus boy and worked to general manager with no passion for the food service industry. Passion does not guarantee success. Unless that passion is placed in making g yourself the best you can possibly be at anything you do.

I do too, but that's because 'Droids" are verizon-rebranded and they are historically gigantic piles of crap. I feel like comparing my nexus 4 to any phone verizon has called a droid is just an outright insult, honestly.
On the flipside, though, if a phone runs android or any android distro I use the blanket android term, similarly to how I use the term linux box for any pc running any linux distro

You kind of have to look at Google's motives for Android in the first place. They saw the importance of the future of mobile and that iOS was in the process of owning it. They launched Android primarily to protect their advertising sales business and then started monetizing content sales through Play. So if their motivation is advertising and content sales what difference does it make whose name is on the physical device or if people know their device is "Android?" I'm sure they aren't pleased with the forking taking place (Amazon) or the overlays being added that F-up the update process (100MM Galaxy's sold) but at the end of the day their well positioned in mobile and raking in tons of profit from mobile advertising and content sales. Google makes the same in those categories whether the masses buy a “Galaxy,” “HTC Sense,” or a Nexus where Android’s still fairly prominent.
“Galaxy” now leads “Android” as a smartphone search term which kind of tells you what volume and marketing does for consumer brand awareness. Samsung Electronics spent $12B in marketing and promotion in 2012. HTC’s market capitalization (the value of the entire company) is only $8B. That amount of marketing spend buys you a lot of aided and unaided brand awareness.
"Samsung ‘Galaxy' has become a more popular search term than Android for web users searching for information about Android-powered smartphones, highlighting many handset makers' fears that Samsung is becoming bigger than the other Android manufacturers and that the smartphone market is slowly becoming a two-handset, rather than an operating systems, race."

You need to look at this long term. Samsung definitely has the ambitions to become a new apple, i.e. build "their own ecosystem". OS (Tizen), advertising, app store etc etc.
As they already have hooked enough of users on their brand/touch wiz, next step will be to release tizen and make sure there is a certain mass of critical apps and after this samsung can start migrating users over.
Users don't give a damn if it is android/qnx/tizen/firefox os or whatever. As long as it looks the same and feels the same. Which what touchwiz is for.
So I guess el goog will need to do something if it is already not too late. Sadly the motorola is not the solution.
