Hey guys how can i root my captivate with officila 2.3 can i just use superoneclick root or do i have to odin back to froyo.
What official 2.3 ?? Rogers ?? Is so, then there's already a lot of thread info on this. If not see below...
Use the FuguRoot Kernel swap method.
See thread here.

I saw this thread in developement as well and was confused by it for a minute. But yes, as the guy above me said there has been no official 2.3 release for the USA so the only option to root is the fugu method with a kernel swap.
If this is a Rogers network captivate then the answer is different. But first, we need you to tell us more about the situation. If you indeed have a captivate running on ATT with the 2.3 official gingerbread then please take a picture of the About Phone screen so we call all see it as this would indicate a probable soon release of the 2.3 for all captivate users.
is a att phone but the phone already had 2.3 idk how but anyways ill be trying fugu method

Wow. Please take a picture or screenshot of the about phone screen as this would be to my knowledge the first time we here at XDA have seen an ATT captivate with the official 2.3 release. It really would be some big news so help us out here.
After rooting would the kernel give me cwm too?

Honestly, every bit of information on here could potentially brick your phone since nobody on here has messed with an "official" 2.3 release. I have no idea if that kernel will give you CWM but I do know what your stepping into could be potentially hazardous due to the lack of knowledge on any official att 2.3 release.
No the FuguRoot Kernel doesn't give you CWM Recovery, you'll have to flash the Boog KH3 kernel to get it.
how about if i odin back to froyo and also will the fugoo kernel work on att and where can i get it?

See my post #2 above for the link to the FuguRoot Mod kernel thread --- this kernel is just used to gain Root. And then you swap back to the stock kernel or better yet since you are using Odin, you could just flash to the matching boog kernel to gain CWM Recovery. boog has put together kernels for kh3, ki1 and ki2, so just be sure to choose the correct one. Choose a .tar one first and that will get you CWM. Then you can choose the .zip latest kernel for the base (kh3, ki1, ki2) that you are on. And be sure to thank boog for his contribution to this community.
I believe the kh3 kernel will work on the official gingerbread that Rogers released, as stated by Nick0703 in post 8. May want to do a quick scan of the posts in boog's thread to verify that, if that is the kernel that you are needing. And there should be posts in that thread by those on Rogers reporting how the kernel is working.

Am I able to install the Voodoo lag fix on my Captivate? I know the AT&T version is supported but I rather not brick my device. Please respond!
Thanks,

I have a Rogers Captivate, and I have used Voodoo for a while.
Make sure you have root access, and go nuts. It really does improve the quality.
have u used voodoo with 2.2?
i just got the captivate and am now on stock 2.2 with root and oclf installed. is it worth changing to voodoo?

OCLF uses ext2, which is less safe than ext4, which is used by Voodoo. If you want Voodoo, flash the JJ4 + Voodoo kernel in the dev section.

Depends. The newer Kernals really unlock a lot of features that we didn't have before, and you don't have now.
If you use your phone as your media player, than the benefits of Voodoo sound were enough to make me switch.
hey guys, i got the official rogers 2.2, can i still use voodoo? what good roms use rogers 2.2 as a base and include voodoo? any suggestions?
Hey folks, another Canadian Rogers Captivate user here...just wanted to confirm if I can use the Voodoo stable 5.4.1 for Froyo 2.2.1 as it looks like I'm on 2.2 stock (and rooted)? I'm new to android and a bit scared, but the Voodoo fix seems easy enough..
No one seems to be answering the main question posed here.
For us STOCK Rogers froyo users which version of voodoo should we use?
I am not running a custom rom, I have not used Odin (used Kies to install official froyo update). I can't seem to find a version of voodoo lagfix specifically for stock Rogers 2.2. If anyone e has it installed can you point us in the right direction?

Hi there to all asking about Voodoo for Rogers,
I have tried suckerpunch (based on speedmod)
Also tried the newest speedmod 13c
No problems with either.
I personally have tried voodoo (5.4.1 and the one for att captivate) with no luck at all.

People have been using the SpeedMod kernel which is the Rolls Royce of kernels; it enables a lot of the Captivates features and power. However, the Kernel is based on the i9000 kernel, which is the sister handset to the Captivate. The kernels are compatible across both phones, but the stock modems on captivates don't seem to do as well with some setups; you'll see this in the sprawling thread dedicated to that topic. Some people will flash an i9000 modem as well, and people seem to have varying results with different combinations.
Having said that, if you don't want to use bluetooth, the stock modem is perfectly serviceable. You could go ahead and flash your SpeedMod kernel and see vast improvements is phone function without tweaking in the handset's general recovery menu. There's also plenty there to keep the tweaksters busy
However, new to the scene is the same developers amalgam of his voodoo lagfix in a stock Rogers Froyo kernel. I'm running it now and I am still testing and checking things, but it seems fine though. There are some caveats to respect though, I just spent nearly an entire day getting my phone back to Stock Froyo after doing a bad job of 'un'lagfixing before flashing kernels. However, if it's your first endeavour into flashing or modifying your phone's software, it would be a relatively safe bet. You should not have any lagfix installed nor should you even think about doing it without doing a Titanium Backup of your phone, which would mean rooting.
Hope that helps a bit.

There is a 1-click Gingerbread UCKF1 thread in the dev forum. Thats what I am currently running and its working well so far.. The only issue I have is my GPS is crap.. but it was crap with stock froyo aswell so no big deal there.
I'm on the rogers i896 also.

It's sort of officially unofficial. It would seem to be a prebuild for a forthcoming Gingerbread release, it's tight and a great daily driver.
I did use Odin; follow the usual safety procedures and all will be well. The modem that comes with the package is great, but my 4G no longer works, it's 3G for now, but I got terrible 4G speeds anyway, so there's not much of a downgrade there.
The GPS did not function so great straight away, but I keyed in the code *#3214789650# - Settings - SUPL Settings, and changed the server to supl.google.com and the server port to 7276. I got much better results from that configuration.
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the help of gps friend ... I have it installed and this great .. But you have some voovoo installed, can not find any on the net .. The voodoo 5.5.x served me just to change the start GTI9000, I do not like .. Thanks for your help..
Hi Guys
I am upgrading to a SGS i9000. Previously had a Motorola Milestone, custom kernel is new to me.
I've been searching and couldn't find anything. I want to load gingerbread XXJVK and use SpeedMod Kernel. Will this cause any problems? If I do experience problems would it be straight forward to go back to stock kernel?

Speedmod is a kernel designed to run with Froyo, not Gingerbread. Many custom 2.3.3 ROMs have you install Speedmod as an intermediary step just to get CWM installed, but it will not work with JVK. You will need to install one of the kernels specifically designed to support JVK.
I STRONGLY suggest you read the many threads posted here about JVK and the process of flashing to it, AFTER you have read the stickies about flashing ROMs on the i9000. Foreknowledge is always better than Support Calls.

Thanks for the advice. I keep going back to the stickies about flashing ROMs to i9000. I guess I will keep reading.
I would wait for the release of Gingerbread . Once its released the devs are going to have a more complete set up to work with .
jje
There's no source to work from... so there's no speedmod as of now. Your best shot could be supercurio's hacked JVK kernel which can convert partitions to ext4. But remember, the rom is still a beta.
My SGS came today. I'm going to look at flashing darky's rom tonight.
I have Cyanogenmod7 RC3 on my milestone at the moment but I don't think I'll miss the 2.3 features.
Again thanks everyone for the advice
hi guys,

need some help over here.
i'm using galaxy S i9000.
i rooted my device with speedmod kernel k13e-500hz #36 but firmware is v2.2.
is theer anyway to upgarde to v2.3 with rooted kernel??

Hi all,
I'm new to android and some things I do not understand, for example I have the galaxy captivate with the following characteristic:
Rom Android 2.3.4 I897UCKH3
boog_kh3_kernel3
su-2.3.2-efgh-bin-signed.zip
I updated my cellphone using these files, and all works fine but I wanted install a new kernel the last talondev, but after install it I think that my sgs is on soft bricked, displays the logo of AT & T and then starts "loading talon...", but then restarts.
This kernel can be used with the rom? it is compatible? or What should I do to choose a kernel?
Best regards
Talon is I9000 port kernel you are using native I897 rom. Use Samurai, Corn kernel or Boog's kernel. Actually Im not sure there is a corn or samurai kernel for KH3. I know they have it for KJ roms.
I have to find kernels for KH3, right?
Thanks
Correct. Or update to a newer leak like KJ3 as a example.
And I can change to a custom rom? or that such the cm7 rom?
I talk to do this to exit the soft brick and have it back.
thanks
CM7 has its own special instructions. I haven't kept up with it so go to their thread and read. But ya you can change to custom roms like Fusion IX, Fasty and others that are based of a newer firmware version.

You need to flash back to boog kernel. If this does not work it is best you re-flash to stock KH3 with the one-click solution here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
Choose the one WITHOUT bootloaders since you already have those on the phone. It is safer that way.
Regarding CM7 ROMs. You must know they are completely different system compared to the normal Captivate ROMs. Read this thread before flashing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978150
Don't get me wrong. THEY ARE VERY GOOD CUSTOM ROMs...absolutely. But you cannot mix and match.....Follow CM7 instructions strictly.
thanks for the replies, I will be reading information about their opinions.
thank you very much , I'll let you know the results.

First, thanks for your help...I have been working on learning more to do that fugu method and now under stand I have to get that KF1 click flashed first...
Second, I see you are running ICS on your captivate? Is it rooted? Or did you have to root it?

Thanks again, I am trying to decide if I should continue working on rooting my gingerbread 2.3.5 or just put on ICS?

Yes, I do know what root is...we have two captivates I897 that was running 2.1 unrooted. I upgraded both to 2.2 and rooted both phone from what I have learned here on the forums.
I have finally been able to upgrade both our phones to GB 2.3.3 and have both ROOTED via the Fugu method thanks to your post and explanation. Sure do appreciate you time.

7.1.0.
I am going to check here to see if I can find any. If you know where to get one please let me know.

Hey guys, I know it may seem a little tedious or pointless, but I want to put the stock kk4 ROM on my Rogers captivate, however I don't want to see AT&T when I boot up. People say that the KK4 ROMs are the most stable, better than Froyo, which I was so tempted to go back to due to lame battery life and so many force closes, email problems, etc. So 1) Is it possible to see this Rogers, or is there a stock KK4 (GB) 2.3.5 I assume, ROM? Is it a good idea to keep my KK4 or should I go back to some 2.2 stuff? Thanks for your time guys really appreciate the input!

To do that you need to change your Param.lfs and get a kernel with a different bootscreen. I haven't used corn lately to know if THAT kernel has a different screen, but I know its the only kernel build from source to date. You can look up mobiletechvideos.com for how to change param.lfs. GL

Sorry for reviving an older thread, I was in the process of moving. Part of the question was whether or not I should stick to a kk4 "i897" romn my rogers captivate or go to ICS or to 2.2. Again thanks I really appreciate it.
Nothing to do with this thread but Usually OP for ICS roms have their own instructions. If you are on KK4 with Korn Corn just flash from there (might need to flash twice depending on rom). Like I said follow OP instructions but you should be good from kk4.
KoRn is a band, I think you meant Corn
