I do the same thing though... no one is allowed to borrow or sync music with my computers unless they have a Zune or something besides an ipod. I don't help my friends with macbooks, iphones or any other apple products they have. They made fun of me when I got a zune so they can rot in hell! haha

Wrong place mostly. The majority here doesn't like Apple to begin with, and we tinkerers don't like the idea of having an overpriced piece of tech. For the same price, you could have gotten a much better spec'd Windows kit. And if you are going desktop, by building your own rig, you could have built something that'll blow the Mac completely out of the world and still have change to bring your girl out for a date

My bud's GF is called Mac. So the first time I saw her (she was kinda cute) I decided to have a dig at her.
I just told her that I hate Mac with a vengeance and I will stay loyal with XP (my girlfriend's initials). My buddy laughed and she was stunned for a few seconds, and we had to explain the joke to her. Twice.
Later on, we were sitting beside each other and I made a fuss out of distancing with her, saying I'm allergic to Apple products.
And yeah, she smacked my arm after that.

Actually, I didn't have to flash that far back. It happened over the weekend. Needless to say, I mess around with people so often that I got infamous for it. It's a great icebreaker too, since it weeds out the cool people with the not-so-cool people.

But if you want one, buy it. You'll get top of the line hardware (and not thin crappy plastic fantastic ****) and you'll get a stable OS that's not crying about viruses everytime you're downloading Girls Gone Wild Vol. 86.

To whit, I submit the following questions to the OP and to Mr. BazookaAce:
What is the purpose of such a machine? Are you genuinely using it for the software suites that only Mac can handle? Or you're simply trying to impress the chicks that will never notice you otherwise?
If you answered "Yes" to the last two questions, you might need a Mac. Otherwise, move along. There is genuinely better laptops for a better price.

I use an hp dv7 as my main computer. First laptop. Now that I have it, I see the use of a portable laptop. I want an air because it is extremely portable. Fully operational computer. Spec something out that compares to it. You whine and cry about overpriced pos. Yes the desktops are. But put up or shut up. Spec a windows unit out that compares. Apple got it right with the air, and it's the only mac I would buy.
And to the op, only tip would be spend an extra bill to get 4gb of ram. Otherwise leave it as is if you have other computers to work from. It's a good ultra portable as is, just that bump in ram will boost performance to do all you need as a second portable device. Go for it.

I game too much, so my opinion is completely and truly biased.
Go ahead with your purchase, with the knowledge that a stoopid Dell XPS 14 can beat the shark out of a MacBook Air 13" for about 30% off. And I'm talking better processor, GPU and RAM. And you can buy a nice SSD for the price difference, and keep your old HDD in an external enclosure. And still have change for the spare battery.
Like I said, if you genuinely need something that Mac has to offer (like multimedia stuff), a Mac is good. But for any other reasons, a PC will serve you better. In fact, I have recommended Macs to two of my friends; a budding photographer and a musician. They loved it for what it can do that Windows couldn't
So my question still stands; do you NEED a Mac? Or do you buy it because you're an Apple tool?
First thing is recommend.... Wait until about July when the refresh comes out, it'll most likely have a sandybrige CPU meaning better performance and battery life, although they will probably remove the dedicated graphics card and use the onboard Intel 3000HD thing I have a macbook air from 2008 btw..

They are great little laptops, we had two at work.
This may be a problem that has been resolved now, but both had problems with the display hinge breaking. Apple repaired both of them without any problem, even though one was out of warranty.
I eventually got fed up with the small screen and got a 15 inch 'Pro'.

First of all, i'm not 12 years old. I'm not a gamer. Second, i don't care about the price. Some buys a Mercedes or BMW, and some nerds will buy a Kia, put 800 HK in it, and call it gods work. No, it's still a piece of **** that will crash and burn more often then Mr Sheen.
People like nice things, and people like stability. Not everyone likes a Alienware box that will melt within 3 minutes of use.
But it doesn't matter what i say, since you're most likely a 13 year old chick with cheetos on your pubs, and needs to grow a pair.

Apple is desperate. Their attempts to litigate Android products from the market are not working. So even if it probably really is just smoke and PR maneuvers with nothing substantial behind it, in their desperation Apple will do anything.

Nice try on stirring up the pot. WP7 is nothing, will never be anything. Look at how terrible it is doing in this market. Apple and Google will continue to claw it out in phone sales while Microsoft sits on the sidelines. None of the general public goes into a best buy or at&t looking for a WP7, nor will they walk out with one. They want a cool looking OS and phone and some variety to choose from. Not some bleak tiles invented by a first grade class.

Now that would be sweet! A fantastic thing, for sure. The goodness of Android mixed with the superior hardware and build quality of Apple.
Even more than that, let Apple adopt Android and finesse and smooth it out to their higher standards. What an overwhelming affair.

While in school another student (female) asked him "is that an iPad? oh you must be good with computers then). He was speechless, as yes he is, but most people who own Apple products are morons. I have an old iBook I use as a coaster, but other than that my household has only PCs.
Does anyone have practical uses for Crapple products?

I have a new trolling method now: Buy a crApple product, and pretend to be $#[email protected][email protected]$$ dumb and tell'em that it's so magical.
Then go back to Android and work like a geek.

While I hate the iOS for being such a closed OS, some people would want a simple to use and good looking product(in their opinion) and iOS is just that: simple, idiot-proof. Android, on the other hand, pwned iOS upside down with it's flexibility and customisation options, even without root. So ya, it's a matter of what the end user prefers. Personally, Android is my choice

I like I pods, don't get me wrong, anything further than that is useless. I used to have an iPod, then I got an Android phone.... from then on my eyes were open
Well, I still use my MacBook, and I love it. I just wish Apple products were cheaper! I would NEVER use an iOS device though... It's just not my thing.
But I do enjoy Apple computers. (There are 4 PCs, and 1 Mac in my house.)
Maybe when I get a job, I can purchase a MacBook PRO, and wait until it gets outdated again.

I agree. I myself am A+ too. It's amazing how people correlate own an apple product with being a smart computer person. My wife has and iBook which she touts with a condescending attitude sometimes. I've had to rescue her from her iBook a couple of times. I guess that makes me smart with computers lol

I don't like apple products too, but.. I must admit that an Ipod nano (version with round schroller) will be a good choice, but for mac and bigger OS things changed.
they are a bit "closed" or "locked". I don't like that because they keep theyr own standards.. well the new macs with the i7 sucks, the sistem is a bit unstable...
and theyr product that have lower raw power cost a lot more.
as an example the old iPhone 3 that was packing a 2mp camera with no video capabilities, or 3gs is the same, 3mp and a 600mhz core probably from motorola while there was the n97 with a lot more camera but it was a completely crap with simbian.
If i'm gonna to buy a tablet or a pc i'm going to buy an economic tablet with amd cpu for delete windows and install linux, and the pieces for build up a dextop pc, but I done that last year so maybe is better a big laptop for designing on the train instead listening music.
and BTW I don't mind if a girl think that i'm not a pro pc user if I go around with an IBM pc. (actually lennovo)

I think it relates because it is between iOS and Android w/c is the OS of SGS2 and i want the opinions of my fellow SGS2 users.. But if the mods want to move this they can freely do so..

I thank god I'm not an Apple sheep . I hear Apple's iOS 5 has a brand new pull down notification bar.. And Android's supposedly copying Apple? Lol it's just a good laugh in my opinion

Its just simple business, destroy the competition before they grow even stronger. This extends itself beyond phones to ipads, tablets and anything that competes with Apple.
After all Google acquired the developer of Android in 2005 and it was listed as distributed in 2007. Only until recently have Apple became very agressive in terms of suing and other lawsuits etc. Why? Because he realised just how much of a threat Android has become.
Windows could copy him, he woudnt have cared less but after all, last quarter of 2010 Android was listed as the best selling platform with over 190million Android devices to date.
Only makes sense for Apple to want to curb this growth although the reality is those who loves Apple products will never learn. They could release an iphone 5 with next to no new features and people will still go crazy and line up for days to buy it. They cant do any wrong but those Apple fans should be thanking the healthy competition Android provides because its due this competition that both platforms have lifted their game to out do eachother. SG2 is only as good as it is so it can sell agressively, its the only way potential Iphone owners will consider swapping and due to Android phones like this, Iphone have to provide more features to continue growing instead of crap like Iphone 4s which really is a pathetic upgrade (well not for Apple given how limited the Iphone 4 was) but in reality the features it offers is what many Android phones (LG, Motorolla, HTC, Samsung) have offered for a while.
Either way i dont mind Apple being popular, it forces Android phones to be even better so consumers win either way

I think it's actually quite sad and pathetic the obsession he buiilt up about destroying Android, never mind fairytales about stealing it was all in his mind, he thought he was the main man and Apple were THE most advanced when it came to technology but couldn't hack it when Android came in and pulled the carpet from under him and Apple so decided to cry foul and accuse them of all sorts and issue patent after patent, that doesn't sound to me like a "technology genius" rather a bitter man who simply couldn't accept Apple were being brushed aside by Android.
Anyway this is probably for the general forum.
Just my two cents anyway.

Who cares what Steve MOD EDIT Jobs said, he was just a glorified marketing man. Apple is rotten to its core - a bit like Jobs now.
I think Larry Ellison will destroy Android for him.
I think that, without Steve Jobs, we wouldn't have these fancy android phones. There wouldn't be a dual-core 1.2ghz phone running an extremely customizable O.S without Apple creating the iPhone. But now there is.
Its called innovation. Company 1 makes a product that sells well. Company 2 "copies" them and creates a different and/or better product. Company 1 then releases an upgrade and tries to beat. Company 2's product. Its never ending and allows for products to improve at an extremely fast rate. That is, until company 1 sues everyone who improved upon their product and is now outselling them!

Was surprise in Steve's book about the bit on Gorilla glass. Was invented in the 60s but Corning couldn't find a use for it. The original iphone was suppose to have a plastic screen but Steve wanted it with glass instead. So his friend suggested he talk to Corning about it.
Corning haven't been making this stuff and Apple wanted this stuff in 6 months for the launch. They converted an lcd plant and got their best people to make the glass.
Apple should have taken out an exclusive license on it. Who knows maybe Steve thinks Andriod stole the glass too.

Apple does not like competition. That's nothing new.
He was only afraid because Android got so extremely popular by being the direct opposite of iOS. Open-source and not restrictive.
