Need some serious help. I had a Hero that I had rooted a long time ago. Loved the phone, but bought the Nexus s4g. The hero was lying in a drawer at home. The last ROM was AOSP 2.1 or something or other.
I decided to give the phone to a friend the other day and went to put a fresh ROM on it. I started with Zero Hero RC1 ROM and it was a hog on my Hero. Would barely do anything it was so slow. Then I put Gingerbread Hero Deck and now I have Sense WildHeroc RC#.
The problem I am having with all of these ROMS is that I can’t get data connectivity without WIFI.
I can use the phone just fine for calls, when I am in range of WIFI signal I can surf the net or market or anything else. But I cannot get data connectivity without WIFI.
Any ideas? I didn’t have this problem when I was using the phone. It just started with the last round of ROMS.
Dying for some help with this.
Thanks in advance.
Flash to a sense ROM like liquid sense or nfx if u dont have a backup of ur original ROM right after u rooted.
From the sense ROM call sprint and get it going .... since ur there update ur PRL and baseband too(or just make they are up to date)
Once u get it going make a backup for future reference. BTW... ur old backups, the ones b4 this newest one, have ur info on it so they may not work without changing accounts once u flash back to it.
Anyhow once it works and ur backed up, do a fresh install and u should be good to give it back to ur friend.
Update ur recovery also before u flash any newer ROMs like zero or wildhero.... both ROMs are sense style and have not fully ironed out the kinks... but they do rock if ur a "sense" person.
Good luck and God bless

Ok i did a search for whats the best ROM and it really didnt pop up with much so i figured i would ask, im fairly new to this all im running damagecontrol 2.08.1 my pri is 1.70_003 i guess what im looking for is there a better ROM that has everything working (or at least the big features) with sense as its launcher.
also my RA is 1.6.2 that i installed via freshkitchen is there a newer/better version i should use?
the reason i ask is because dmgcontrol is working fine except when i try to go in and change my USB settings to connect to pc settings crash, and the nexus live wallpaper doesnt load properly
I like Fresh but I am not sure how much longer it will be developed if at all.
This situation is one of the good thing about nandroid backup. Do a backup in recovery and then try out a bunch of ROMs. You can always go back to your original setup and if you did a lot of wipes then going back to that will help transition over to a new ROM you pick.
Hi guys I just recently did the "How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero" in the developers area and I need help choosing rom. I mostly use my phone to surf the net/update my FB/ check my gmail/ download music from music junk etc. I want to be able to do everything I normally do on a normal 2.1 updated hero minus the usesless nascar apps/footprints etc. I want to be able to have live wallpaper and be able to tether as well as save apps to my SD card.
Can you guys suggest me at least 3 separate roms that will allow me to do this? Each one I click seems tempting and really considering giving them a shot. I hear everyone saying do a NANDROID backup what is that exactly? Where do I go to see how to do this? I definitely need help. I also want to know how can I go back to my stock 2.1 sprint rom if in the end I just don't end up liking any of these modified roms (doubt it). I will try and keep browing and reading. Thanks guys for helping me out.
Try them all. It's the only way.
But how it's my question I don't see tutorials...I just wanna make sure I don't f up my phone. i have insurance but still i'm cautious about it. I was thinking this one
ALOYSIUS 2.1

I just responded to your PM
I used the 1.5 Versions of Aloysius, it was good. Haven't tried the 2.1 versions.

Question is, do you like Sense? If not, go for DarchDroid. (Unless you use MMS, then go for Ic3Rom). If you like sense, go for DamageControl.
Damagecontrol is a great Rom. Very stable and has built in UI program for disabling Sprint apps, launcher, live wallpaper or even sense all together. There's also apps2sd, JIT compiling, memkiller adjustments, dalvik to SD and swapping options. Just be cautious you don't change a setting without prior research to see what effects it will have on your system. I've been on DC for about a month now and can say this Rom is killer.
And as ALWAYS...do a nandroid backup before making any changes.

To do a nandroid you will need a program that can flash a recovery image (allows you to boot up your phone without your OS). I have ROM Manager. But there are others. Once you have flashed a recovery image, backup your OS. This will do a complete backup of your device, so you can always restore where you previously were. I would also recommend making a copy of your backup to your computer HD for safe keeping. Android Police has a couple excellent tutorials on accomplishing this.

Personally, I recommend Fresh. Simple, it's got everything you need, and it just seems to work better than DC on my device. DC had some issues with su and felt slow to me.
Hello everyone.
I am new to the world of flashing android, I used to flash my previous htc windows phones all the time. I'm currently running IceRom, something one of my friends found off here a long while back.
Can anyone recommend a good stable rom that looks nice ? I have been looking over all the newer ones but I think I want something more established.
What tickles your fancy?
Vanilla Android or Sense Based?
Built in Overclock Kernels or Flashing one of the undervolted/OC goodies that are in plentiful abundance?
That will help start to narrow it down
uhhhh..... well i never know what I'm using so it doesnt really matter. The icerom im using now has a lot of glitches its android 2.2 (think?) the video camera doesnt work on it and i cant play music from myxer (it doesnt support .dm filetype) so it really drives me nuts...
honestly i dont know the difference between vanilla and sense, so anything goes.
Cyanogenmod 6:HERE
icerom is 2.1 aosp ithink you wont go wrong wit cm6

I agree... CM6 is the best, and darch has his rc1 out now, so its extremely stable
Sent from my HTC Hero running froyo: take that, Sprint!
If you want to try a good stock rom that comes with apps 2sd go with nfinitefx45's stock .6 odex rom its awesome and gives you the beautiful htc sense!
ok C-6 it is... so another n00b question (Sorry guys, the hero is the first android phone ive had!)
on the c-6 posting it says to update radio if you need to. I dont even know what version I am running let alone how to flash a radio. My last friend who knew how to flash them told me not to flash my radio cuz its a good way to brick my phone.
And seeing as how this would be my first time flashing ANDROID im not sure i should flash a radio without supervision lol
Be careful if you start flashing your radio. If you flash one from a gms hero you can brick your phone.
If you go to "settings>about phone>software info>baseband version" that should be your radio I believe.
ok then im using
baseband version:
1.04.01.09.21
sound right?
i downloaded the C6 rom- but does anyone know a good android syncing software i can use to transfer the rom to my phone? again im not trying to annoy anyone. Once Ive learned the process once I will be able to do it again and again. With windows it was easy there was a program that did everything for you beside the hard reset.
btw is a wipe and a hard reset the same thing or no
Yeah sounds right. Here's where I got my updated radio from - http://geekfor.me/category/hero/radios/
ok awesome looks good. Is it required to flash a radio or no? like will it affect the rom's awesomeness
those radios are all for android 2.1 but it says c6 is android 2.2
Lol, I don't think its required to flash a new radio. I think you find a radio that gives you good signal strength and then you stick with it. I could be completely talking outta my ass though...
alright guys who've helped- thankyou!!
i figured out how to sync my phone using sugarsync so i can update my radio and rom. now im just going to follow flashing directions from c6 thread,
will post back with an update when its done...
ok this is rediculous.... this is the most time consuming thing ive ever tried to do with my phone. I couldnt transfer the c6 zip from sugarsync to my phone so i had to email it to myself...and took forever for my phone to download it. NOW the file is stuck in my download folder and for some reason i cannot move it or copy/paste it to the root folder.
btw, my root folder is NOT in the sd folder.
anyone know how im supposed to get the new rom into my root!????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
download the ROM
copy the .zip file over to your phones SD card in the root directory
Unplug your phone and turn it off
Hold power and home until you boot into Recovery
Select the option to flash zip
find your ROM and press the trackball and when its done reboot
that should work lol.
omgomg!!! i figured it out lol i noticed my old rom zip was in the sd directory so i "copied" c6 to that same spot and was able to boot from that. Restarted my phone, and its currently booting up with cyanogen 6!!
I have successfully flashed my first android phone....
now that thats done...anyone know where i can find the MARKET on cyanogen??
in his thread theres a link for something called "google sh*ts" or something.
Its all the google apps, like gmail and youtube and stuff
you have to download that and flash it and then restart the phone and theyll all show up.
Thats the rom i was using n_n
I have a htc hero cdma and i did a backup with nandroid (the usual) but my got wet, etc etc, long story short......the company send me a new phone and i put my memory card, and did everyhting again, rooting, rom manager, etc etc, i install the gingerbread ROM to see how it work but i want to go bck to my htc sense 2.1 but i cant because the backup that i had of 2.1 is not working, now i am stuck with gingerbread.....i try to put the android 2.1 update software from htc but is keep putting me a error "140"
Please help
If you want a completely stock rom while maintaining your root, I would use this rom Here
Its completely stock, with the newest sprint update, and you can still be rooted.
Just do your wipes and flash it and you should be good to go.
Thanks! I will try that....i didnt see any market app....so illl guess that is already install on the rom... well try that, i let u know if it work

Does it have to be the Stock Rom? If Not, There are other Sense based Roms that in my Opinion are 10 Times Better! LiquidSense 2.1 is one of them!
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
i downloaded and have been running asops 2.2 rom but i just changed my phone number with sprint and I cant figure out how to update the msid. obviously sprint cant help me since im not using stock rom. anyone know where to look or an app i can download, because under settings: about phone: phone status: shows my old phone number, and i cant make calls or send msgs because of it.
they kept giving me ## codes but they wont work it just tries to dial the number.
Sorry woulda responded sooner, been busy. You need to flash a sense rom to use dialer codes our have sprint modify the phone or account info tied to it.
ugh... ok can you recommend a quick and simple rom so i can do that real quick
hate flashing it takes forever without a highspeed usb. anyways, downloading a sense rom now. thanks
arrg! ok i downloaded and flashed over to herocs 2.2 sense rom, tried doing the ## codes and nothing happens.
anyone??? im kinda screwed here.. cant use my phone until i get the prl updated
If all you need to do is update prl, and you have a sense rom flashed, you can do that from phone settings. I believe it is under "about phone".

Just use LiquidSense to update it.
what is liquidsense?
this is the rom i flashed to for temporary purposes
It is a 2.1 Sense ROM that can be found in the Development section.
well i guess no need to worry about this anymore, the charging dock on my phone is now broken or something because nothing will charge my phone.
Try a different battery. Or a different usb cable.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
ok i was in panic mode earlier being without my phone and all...
got liquidsense, updated all info. all good there. however when i flashed back to aosp rom its suddenly really glitchy, i cant get passed the "touch the android" set up screen!
attempting to reflash and see if that helps any...
nope....man this is a nightmare. btw gave thanks to everyone who replied in this post.
well... i flashed back to LS and even that one glitches out at the set up menu. so im still nowhere with my phone.
**UPDATE**
i found a backup copy of aosp rom that i originally downloaded in another folder on my sd. everything is working just fine now couldn't have done this without your help (all of you)

Glad you got it up and running.
First Just for your future reference so your not crappin all over yourself.lol (Been there) If you haven't already make a nadroid of the LS Rom or sense Rom that you used.
Second,I believe alot of the people around here that flash between sense and CM and AOSP do a factory rest or wipe from fastboot(look in this guide for instructions on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063843 by forum memeber il Duce )the reason being is that (from what I've read) is that sense roms leave bits and pieces of files behind that can corrupt a flash,or make you phone wonky after it boots up.
P.S. If you ever have to RUU or unroot when you re-root makea nandroid of that after you root and keep it some where safe so you can go back to it.
Yes, wipe data, cache, and dalvik every time you change roms. Especially between sense and aosp. The only exception us when flashing an update to the rom you're currently running. Even then, it may require a cache and dalvik wipe. Wipes are not necessary when restoring a nand. Also, keeping a sense nand is a good idea, as out makes it quicker when prl updates are needed.
