Wow! a $200000 phone bill - Off-topic

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2394939,00.asp#fbid=M227xC8oyTv
A T-Mobile customer in Florida was "shaking and crying" when she received a phone bill of more than $200,000 last month, largely because her younger brother didn't turn off data roaming during a vacation in Canada.

Ohhhh....that had to be terrifyingly devastating to see. T-Mob really ought to drop that, or at least drop it down to where it's reasonable.

I would say even 2500 is just, I can't even put in to words. I would never use them again and I would take them to court over it. ( I never herd of more than a $1500 phone bill and that was a mistake.) I mean 250 would sting, but you could likely pay that and not do that again. T-mob you are just, can't put in words bad.

And stupid crap like this is why the government wants to step in.

If that idiot brother kept texting and using data and was getting the $50, $100, etc warnings like Tmobile said he was getting, it is completely his fault. It wasn't like he just left roaming enabled during his vacation. He actively used the connection without knowing the consequences. I think they should have to pay more than $2500.

i personally have an in law that is born deaf, so i feel for the lady paying the bills
Texting is their only way of communication with the rest of the "human" word

Wow...that's a nasty phone bill. About a year and a half ago i got a bill for my landline for over 300 GBP. That's just over 400 USD i think. my cousin and others had been using the phone a lot to make international calls. The bill was for a 3 month period or something like that. Can't remember. But yeah...and i thought that was bad!
Oh well....that's how it goes sometime. Still...a six figure phone bill is insane. The overseas data charges are crazy high all over it seems.

Ignoring warnings that you've run up $50, $100, $200, $500 in data roaming is pretty stupid.
O2 sends out warnings at £20, £40, and caps it at 50MB, unless you've agreed more.

It's only recently that UK/Europe has had protection to roaming fees, and it ONLY applies within the EU. In fact, only recently, Watchdog was talking about people who didn't turn off data when abroad and got hit with ridiculous bills.

holy crap. i would think that the carrier would have disconnected the phone way earlier.
thats insane!

I worked at Verizon Wireless for over a year. The worst I ever saw was 40K. Damn data roaming...
Seems like it's mostly her brother's fault. But at least they're taking care of her.

Ouch, that's all I can say.

Sprint did good - Non-HTC Related

I just called Sprint because my mom uses an LG Optimus S™
She consumes about 5-6 mb of data per month, but since it's a "smartphone" she has to get charged the $10 fee.
Well, I called in after having been with the phone for a couple of months and asked (Not told) if I had to pay for the fee since she only consumes about 5-6mb of data and doesn't really utilize the phone to its capabilities.
After putting me on hold of a min or two, she came back and told me that they evaluated her account and data consumption and will issue a $10 credit monthly to cover that.
I was reminded a couple of times that I should be paying for it because of the type of phone. Also, once I switch to a new phone the discount will be voided.
Still, their customer service really helped out. That's a $120+(taxes) yearly savings.

That $10 fee is mandatory for smart phones its the data package for it in lames term everyone should pay for it and you shouldn't be excluded from that I mean I know you use a lot of data so do I. They don't charge you that because you use a lot of data, they charge you that because you have a smartphone

Try talking to them now and mention the fact that they can trace the line the previous months to see the data pattern.
Since my mom doesn't even text, she can see this feature is lost on her.
I guess that's why they did it. I also have a business account with 6 lines, so that could have factored in to their decision.
I just called customer service today and they moved my upgrade up two weeks. So both my fiance and I got to upgrade our phones today. I was really impressed for how willing they were to satisfy us.

Yeah, they told me that. I'm bidding on one as a back up.
Originally the 10 dollars a month was a WiMAX surcharge, only charged to people with WiMAX phones... A couple months to a year later they renamed it to "premium data" and started charging all smart phones, which is a joke because they barely have any phones that aren't considered a "smart phone" anymore.
I have been with Sprint for 14 years and believe me I have had my share of ups and downs with their Customer Service Department. I have a fairly large account with them (8 phones) and have always managed to resolve issues. Sometimes I didn't get everything I was asking for, but was satisfied in the end.
Basically it's their plan pricing that keeps me a customer. As many have stated, their service in my area is not the greatest but having compared plans with other carriers I simply couldn't afford them.

So DONE with Sprint!

So I guess this is more of a rant than anything but I am SO damn pissed off about it. I have had Sprint a little over a year and half and unfortunately made the choice to upgrade early so my contract is still quite long at this point. Anyway, I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and am SO fed up with the slow spotty service, not having any data 80% of the time and the other 20% being SUPER slow 3G/!1X. Is there anyway to get out from under the contract without paying the ETF? I mean I drove 10 miles the other night re-sending a text because the service is just that bad in my area. Good friend of mine has T-Mobile and gets a super reliable 25 mbps down with 4G while I'm lucky to get .2 mbps on Sprint's 3g. End rant!
Oh OK ?
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
No way of getting out of ETF, trust me I tried. They told me as long as it shows you have coverage where you live and all that there's no way out without the ETF. You could just stick your phone on roam only and torrent a bunch of crap. Eventually they'll get tired of the data you use while roaming and kick you off I believe.

bvang89 is correct. This is what i'm doing, have already gotten the letter in mail saying if roaming doesn't stop they'll drop me. If LTE shows up in my area like it shows on their map, roaming will stop.
We've had terrible service in our area for about a month. First rep told us that it would be fixed in 72 hours. Second rep told us that it was literally just fixed, a week later. Third rep told us that the towers were still being repaired and that they didn't know when it'll get fixed, but they'll take a comparable credit off our bill (10%, real ****ing comparable). Her supervisor told us that we were lying, that our problem had been fixed two days after the initial call, and that our phones had 99% to 100% functional.
Sprint can **** off.
Same crap in Minnesota. I will switch to t mobile after my contact is up. The service may be just as bad,but at least it will be cheaper.

File a complaint with the BBB, you will get a phone call in about 3-5 days and tell them you are done. They will waive your ETF.
They told me the LTE upgrade will be complete in my area in January. And they offered me a hefty discount on my service until then. I also have it set to review the same case in the end of January and if its not better I'm out of sprint as well.
This is a bad year for anyone to be in sprint but I monitor service trender every day and all across america they truly are working on the towers. Pretty much all of them. Its called network vision. Things will get a lot better for most people and in the meantime you can easily get an airrave device for free. Works great. We have tons of customers that's been getting the device recently due to all the upgrades and say it works perfectly. It won't get you out of your etf but it will give you service in your home. You can also call retentions and they WILL give you credits on your bill because of this. I had several call and one got as much as a $200 credit and all he said was "I'm dropping calls and I rely on this for work". They even overnighted an airave to his home
Retentions: ( 888 ) 273-9460
Airrave: ( 855 ) 405-4098
Both those numbers are direct numbers to a live person. Be nice at first. Explain the situation. If you don't like what you hear at first explain more thoroughly the importance of the matter and if you still can't get your issue resolved then threaten to cancel port to another carrier on your next day off from work.
In the meantime watch or listen to "cell phones and flying" by Louis CK

South florida for the most part has pretty decent LTE service, though I will say that I've tested all over my area (West Palm Beach), and have gotten a high of 31down/13up and a low of 6down/3up while showing LTE service on my device. I will offer one caveat...it's usually hit or miss INSIDE buildings.
I've complained to Sprint when I couldn't get a phone I bought for my daughter to hands free activate properly inside my house due to lack of service. I was asked about an Airrave device, but it seemed more that they were looking to SELL it to me than GIVE it to me. I honestly should demand it, as I routinely drop calls inside my house or have to walk outside to continue talking. I must say that even though the service I get with my discount through my company isn't extreme given the number and type of devices I have and the data we use, I still sometimes feel like I'm not getting a very good value.

Lol that sounds like the ATT experience for me in NYC...I could never make phone calls in my house. I always had to go outside to make calls, even in the winter! That's why I can't use ATT anymore. I'd never use VZW or ATT.
VZW is the choice of my ex-wife, hence they are the devil and are to be destroyed or at least avoided at all cost.
ATT screwed me over back when first gen IPhone came out....after 2 months, I decided the device was stupid and sold it to someone for the exact same $300 I paid for it (sucker)....called ATT and cancelled the line....well, they left it open for 5 more months (of course not sending me a bill so I would KNOW this), then sent me to collections for the $300 bucks. Hence, they are the devil and are to be destroyed or at least avoided at all cost.

You know....as much as it would seem right to agree with the conservatives, you're right and it's pretty darn hard to argue against.
If you are paying for truly UNLIMITED service (most of us grandfathered in like me) then that means just that. TRULY UNLIMITED.
Last time I've checked, it didn't say FALSELY Unlimited.
For the few of you, quit the b!*#(ing already. UNLIMITED means UNLIMITED. This is TM's bad...don't claim something to entice people then turn around and try to set limits on that. That's called....hypocrite? Well they have...but oh well...at least it's made clear now with the current plans offered....fair enough. Full disclosure. Oh well....
It seems that the ones getting butt hurt over all this are the ones (some) who are not grandfathered? So it seems....jealous?
IMO though, I do think that for those who have WiFi available, to use that over LTE if you can, BUT again...that's the users rightful choice on what he/she wants to do with their UNLIMITED Data.
You have to remember, we're the ones getting robbed here. Not TM. They make plenty of money from those who are on set data limit plans.
Bottom line: Don't advertise something as Truly Unlimited just to get/entice customers and once your @$$ is full from eating, try and turn it around on the Customers.
Long live the Unlimited Data and Kudos to you Data nuts!
PERIOD.

Agreed. We already went from $70 unlimited to now $80 unlimited.
??? Self-limited or Communty-limited, Unlimited Data ???
Why should someone who is paying for an unlimited data service, not utilize it as to their own prospective needs, or be punished/restricted for doing so???? Anyone urging the same for anyone elses say, TV usage??? Or HULU views??? Isn't it at all feasible, in this world of tolerance (haha), that someones legitimate needs might just be different from someone elses???
Wanna punish someone??? Why not suggest say, the Service Provider, who makes BILLIONS (in profit) annually, providing a service that CLEARLY does NOT cost what is charged, by any reasonable standard?!?!? And I'm OFF my SOAPBOX!!!
Sorry for the rant as well...

Consciously using and abusing versus using subconscious is different. Like me I don't monitor what I use. is use Wi-Fi when I can, etc. I don't rely on my MOBILE phone for my internet. Why don't they get an ISP for heavy use. If you use 100gb pm on a cellphone in a billing period, you must not work and thus you should have access to a WiFi network. To brag about using high amount of data is duh mm .. Learn the game! I'm thinking of the future I don't want them to punish all of a for a few defiant couch potatoes

This is America ...... EVERYTHING is over priced. That's a moot argument. My argument is on principal and moral. I'm not defending the business at all. They all can lower prices. But I like the idea when I use my LTE I don't have to count !megabytes, when people use LTE on purpose because they feel they can now we risk losing unlimited

I can see both the points. Eventually the "abusers" will lift the already high prices to an even higher point. That being said - we, as Americans, get absolutely raped on the cost of our service. Not to mention we are among the slowest in the world when we take what we pay into consideration. So part of me is saying "**** these corporate criminals..." Another part is saying "easy does it...don't ruin a relatively good thing..."

Im REALLY sorry NOW... That I said ANYTHING lol... Why didnt I think of those points to make?!?!?
The point of he T-Mobile network isn't about coverage it's about data that's what they advertise is the "data strong " network they have set up their network to handle the amount of data that is being used unlike the other carriers that have capped data

First of all jack ass I was throwing an arbitrary number out there. I have no idea how much data a MMO pulls. Secondly what's the difference between using a cell phone for my Internet and using Comcast besides I can get similar speed for a much better price using T-Mobile. I am only home for maybe two hours after work and that's enough time to eat mess around on the computer for a bit and crash so **** off with your generalizations. It'd make zero sense for me to spend an extra $100/mo on Comcast just to use maybe 20hrs/wk. If you want to pay my bill then I'll call them tomorrow. If not piss off.

not saying the companies don't make a lot of money, but you do realize that its not 100% profit, setting up 4G LTE and LTE+ speeds for networks is HUGELY expensive.
That being said, competition will always drive prices lower. I sell phones/activations and trust me, 95% of people use 1 gb (or less) each month. we are such a minority that it doesn't matter how much we use.

You're absolutely right. It can go both ways, but at the end of the day truly unlimited is truly unlimited. No matter what the nay sayers may think, their opinion can't over rule the fact that truly unlimited is what it is. Lol...
TM, pushed the whole truly unlimited campaign like mad angry birds head on first. Now that customers are utilizing a service that they signed up for, doesn't give TM any right to try and take that away. Truly Unlimited Data is what customers are paying for.
So for them to even complain now is called: hypocrisy.
It also seems that the ones complaining are perhaps jealous or can't afford the $80 plan or maybe jealous of those who have a grandfathered unlimited plan? Who knows. ..
The fact remains, no matter how you tip the scale, documentation will beat conversation any day.
Truly Unlimited is Truly Unlimited. Pretty black and white to me.
And for goodness sake, what's the difference of streaming 1080p Netflix on your phone vs your 1080p TV? ROFL....

If someone uses 10000gb in a month or 10gb a month the infrastructure cost doesn't change.
I use on average 15-20 GB a month. T-Mobile is flat out the best carrier with the best prices for what they offer. If I'm paying for unlimited data, regardless of whether I use 20 or I use 200 it shouldn't make any difference. T-Mobile makes it a point to advertise that truly unlimited means just that: truly unlimited. They expect people to switch to their network for that very reason. I don't see the person using 300gb a month as an abuser; he/she is taking advantage of a service that is being paid for. They aren't doing it in an unethical way or cheating the system.

Evading T-mobile Throttling on S6

Background:
I love t-mobile and don't wish them harm but I have been having some problems with how fast my 4g data disappears. I am on a grandfather plan that got upgraded. For one extra buck I could have 30 MB of data plus Music Freedom. Despite trying a bunch of firewall's and data restrictions and doing nothing but listening to Spotify the data never lasts more than a few days. And then it's edge speeds which make listening to spotify even on the lowest setting a buffering nightmare.
Question:
How do Increase the amount of data by just a little (I only need like a extra 100 MB) without paying a ridicules $50 a month?
I wouldn't.

My point was that if they are going to be that way about tethering, why risk fiddling around with extending data caps in an unauthorized fashion?

Yea, because no one will notice.... Oh and yes this is doable, thats why the boys over on Verizon and ATT forums could give a rats ass about the amount of data they get, they have the ROMS that exploit the caps.
Yep, lets defraud T-Mobile.....pure genius, while we're at it, lets go down the street and steal the neighbors 4K television. I wouldnt blame them for locking down their phones like fort knox for this reason alone. Look at it like this, If I own a store and people are shoplifting, I pass the extra costs due to lost merchandise and hiring loss prevention personnel to my customers, my customers then whine about the high cost of buying from me and my clientel numbers go in the tank. Dont do it.

How little could you possibly be paying that $30 is too much? Also, music streaming should not count towards your data cap on Tmo. I'd call them rather than trying to defraud them. Especially since T-Mobile alone is basically the reason why carriers are scrambling to reduce just how much they screw us. They've been a huge boon to the consumer in the past couple of years.

Okay I wouldn't be stealing data. T-mobile doesn't spend even a extra $0.000000001 if I use Edge speeds or lte. Only other t-mobile customers speed would be effected. But not where I live, I live in West Lebanon NH which only got lte a couple months ago, the closest tmobile store is 30 miles away. I know a lot of people in my town and what carrier they have and I am the only one with tmobile. There is so much bandwidth being unused it's kind of sad.

My plan is .... 5 bucks a month. Before you go saying how low that is, this summer I lived in Russia and for 5 bucks I got unlimited lte data with no caps, speeds faster then t-mobile, coverage better than Verizon, signal strength better than at&t, and even lte advanced in some places.
Music streaming does not take away from my data allocation. Its other s*** on my phone that slips through firewalls and data restrictions.

Everything is relative. People don't get paid the same in Russia as they do here. It costs more to stand up a tower and buy infrastructure than it does in Russia. It's apples to rubles.

It can't be that big of a difference I worked minimum wage in Russia and that was $4/hour and here it is $8/hour so by that logical all that awesome stuff should be $10 in the US but it doesn't even exist for any amount of money.
Anyway I didn't start this thread to argue about whether it is moral to evade throttling I just came to learn how to do it. If somebody teaches a person to shoot a gun so they can protect themselves and then the person starts killing innocent people with the gun, it is not the teachers fault. So please if you know tell me how to evade throttling.
In fact just tell me if the services.jar method will work, that's all I need.
In Russia, your plan pays you
