Background:
I love t-mobile and don't wish them harm but I have been having some problems with how fast my 4g data disappears. I am on a grandfather plan that got upgraded. For one extra buck I could have 30 MB of data plus Music Freedom. Despite trying a bunch of firewall's and data restrictions and doing nothing but listening to Spotify the data never lasts more than a few days. And then it's edge speeds which make listening to spotify even on the lowest setting a buffering nightmare.
Question:
How do Increase the amount of data by just a little (I only need like a extra 100 MB) without paying a ridicules $50 a month?
I wouldn't.

My point was that if they are going to be that way about tethering, why risk fiddling around with extending data caps in an unauthorized fashion?

Yea, because no one will notice.... Oh and yes this is doable, thats why the boys over on Verizon and ATT forums could give a rats ass about the amount of data they get, they have the ROMS that exploit the caps.
Yep, lets defraud T-Mobile.....pure genius, while we're at it, lets go down the street and steal the neighbors 4K television. I wouldnt blame them for locking down their phones like fort knox for this reason alone. Look at it like this, If I own a store and people are shoplifting, I pass the extra costs due to lost merchandise and hiring loss prevention personnel to my customers, my customers then whine about the high cost of buying from me and my clientel numbers go in the tank. Dont do it.

How little could you possibly be paying that $30 is too much? Also, music streaming should not count towards your data cap on Tmo. I'd call them rather than trying to defraud them. Especially since T-Mobile alone is basically the reason why carriers are scrambling to reduce just how much they screw us. They've been a huge boon to the consumer in the past couple of years.

Okay I wouldn't be stealing data. T-mobile doesn't spend even a extra $0.000000001 if I use Edge speeds or lte. Only other t-mobile customers speed would be effected. But not where I live, I live in West Lebanon NH which only got lte a couple months ago, the closest tmobile store is 30 miles away. I know a lot of people in my town and what carrier they have and I am the only one with tmobile. There is so much bandwidth being unused it's kind of sad.

My plan is .... 5 bucks a month. Before you go saying how low that is, this summer I lived in Russia and for 5 bucks I got unlimited lte data with no caps, speeds faster then t-mobile, coverage better than Verizon, signal strength better than at&t, and even lte advanced in some places.
Music streaming does not take away from my data allocation. Its other s*** on my phone that slips through firewalls and data restrictions.

It can't be that big of a difference I worked minimum wage in Russia and that was $4/hour and here it is $8/hour so by that logical all that awesome stuff should be $10 in the US but it doesn't even exist for any amount of money.
Anyway I didn't start this thread to argue about whether it is moral to evade throttling I just came to learn how to do it. If somebody teaches a person to shoot a gun so they can protect themselves and then the person starts killing innocent people with the gun, it is not the teachers fault. So please if you know tell me how to evade throttling.
In fact just tell me if the services.jar method will work, that's all I need.
In Russia, your plan pays you

Ohhhh....that had to be terrifyingly devastating to see. T-Mob really ought to drop that, or at least drop it down to where it's reasonable.
I would say even 2500 is just, I can't even put in to words. I would never use them again and I would take them to court over it. ( I never herd of more than a $1500 phone bill and that was a mistake.) I mean 250 would sting, but you could likely pay that and not do that again. T-mob you are just, can't put in words bad.

Wow...that's a nasty phone bill. About a year and a half ago i got a bill for my landline for over 300 GBP. Ignoring warnings that you've run up $50, $100, $200, $500 in data roaming is pretty stupid.
O2 sends out warnings at £20, £40, and caps it at 50MB, unless you've agreed more.

So I've just been notified that i am in the top 5% of data usage and I have been throttled BIG TIME. From getting 8000-10,000kb down to now only getting 150 down. Are you kidding me att?
The kicker is I've only used 2gb of data! Is this att's way of finally trying to make the unlimited plan disappear?

If I begin to get throttled at 2GB, I will request a hard copy of the report of all AT&T users Data usage... seems only fair if they can determine I am in the top 5%, that I should be able to see their proof... Plus I assume it would cost them a bt of money to print that and mail it.
Thankfully it has not happened yet.
It may be regional. I am near ny. Point is this. If 3 months ago the top 5% of user were getting double digits in data usage, how the help does that drop so fast when more and more people are getting fast smart phones that use more data.
Something is fishy.
Where are the lawyers on this forum. This is the end of unlimited data as we know it. **** you AT&T
Yeah, unfortunately its not the top 5% of users, its the top 5% of "unlimited" users. All these people that are getting smartphones or have got smartphones in the last almost 2 years cant get unlimited data unless they already had it and are grandfathered in. As people change their data plans for plans with tethering, leave AT&T, or just drop their unlimited data for one reason or another, stop being factored into that number. As the number of unlimited users drop, so will the amount of data that you have to use to be considered to be in the top 5%.
The fields from which they use are plan-unlimited platform-android then they narrow it down to LTE and since there are not alot if LTE users especially with unlimited they do it quick I have a sgs ii with unlimited and I was at 6gb on hspa and 3g and 3 gb on my vivid , guess which one got the throttle message.....

You will probably probably see it soon. They didn't even send me a notice telling me that I'm approaching top 5% and I wasn't even at 3GB. I remember it happened exactly a week ago on the 1st of the month, as I watching some clips in the afternoon and everything was just as usual, then later that night when I popped open the browser, NOTHING would load correctly. NOTHING!!! Freakin eh...
At first I thought I had a bad connection, then when I got to an area to 5 bars it was still giving me 150. I switched apn and got hspa speed back and thought maybe ATT is doing some maintenance work or something, they couldn't be throttling me at a shade below 3GB. Needless to say, my billing cycle starts on the 3rd of the month and of course LTE came back on.....THROTTLED!!!!!
If they are going to throttle (not that I agree throttling at 2GB is right, because it is downright RIDICULOUS), at least cap it to a speed where people can still somewhat browse the web, 150 is F*cking stupid. Normally I'm not a person to display extreme anger in forums, but this has gotten me to be pretty pissed at how they are BSing the unlimited customers.
So what can we do about this? Can we get some sort of class action lawsuit going? I dont know how to do any of this but I think we have the right to make a big stink about this.

I got throttled once I hit 2GB too. So unlimited means <2GB at LTE speeds for $30 but you can pay $30 for 3GB. Got to give it to ATT, unlimited data but speed will vary drastically. For me it was less than 100KB. From 20MBps to 100kbps. Pretty sad.

Yup, but lte users can create a HSPA APN and avoid the throttle while using the HSPA network.
Please explain. Becuase I normally use the stock pta apn, but also have the hspa+ one and the wap.Cingular one that I have added in, and all of them were throttled the same for me.

So I guess this is more of a rant than anything but I am SO damn pissed off about it. I have had Sprint a little over a year and half and unfortunately made the choice to upgrade early so my contract is still quite long at this point. Anyway, I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and am SO fed up with the slow spotty service, not having any data 80% of the time and the other 20% being SUPER slow 3G/!1X. Is there anyway to get out from under the contract without paying the ETF? I mean I drove 10 miles the other night re-sending a text because the service is just that bad in my area. Good friend of mine has T-Mobile and gets a super reliable 25 mbps down with 4G while I'm lucky to get .2 mbps on Sprint's 3g. End rant!

No way of getting out of ETF, trust me I tried. They told me as long as it shows you have coverage where you live and all that there's no way out without the ETF. You could just stick your phone on roam only and torrent a bunch of crap. Eventually they'll get tired of the data you use while roaming and kick you off I believe.

bvang89 is correct. This is what i'm doing, have already gotten the letter in mail saying if roaming doesn't stop they'll drop me. If LTE shows up in my area like it shows on their map, roaming will stop.
We've had terrible service in our area for about a month. First rep told us that it would be fixed in 72 hours. Second rep told us that it was literally just fixed, a week later. Third rep told us that the towers were still being repaired and that they didn't know when it'll get fixed, but they'll take a comparable credit off our bill (10%, real ****ing comparable). Her supervisor told us that we were lying, that our problem had been fixed two days after the initial call, and that our phones had 99% to 100% functional.
Sprint can **** off.
Same crap in Minnesota. I will switch to t mobile after my contact is up. The service may be just as bad,but at least it will be cheaper.

File a complaint with the BBB, you will get a phone call in about 3-5 days and tell them you are done. They will waive your ETF.
They told me the LTE upgrade will be complete in my area in January. And they offered me a hefty discount on my service until then. I also have it set to review the same case in the end of January and if its not better I'm out of sprint as well.
This is a bad year for anyone to be in sprint but I monitor service trender every day and all across america they truly are working on the towers. Pretty much all of them. Its called network vision. Things will get a lot better for most people and in the meantime you can easily get an airrave device for free. Works great. We have tons of customers that's been getting the device recently due to all the upgrades and say it works perfectly. It won't get you out of your etf but it will give you service in your home. You can also call retentions and they WILL give you credits on your bill because of this. I had several call and one got as much as a $200 credit and all he said was "I'm dropping calls and I rely on this for work". They even overnighted an airave to his home
Retentions: ( 888 ) 273-9460
Airrave: ( 855 ) 405-4098
Both those numbers are direct numbers to a live person. Be nice at first. Explain the situation. If you don't like what you hear at first explain more thoroughly the importance of the matter and if you still can't get your issue resolved then threaten to cancel port to another carrier on your next day off from work.
In the meantime watch or listen to "cell phones and flying" by Louis CK

South florida for the most part has pretty decent LTE service, though I will say that I've tested all over my area (West Palm Beach), and have gotten a high of 31down/13up and a low of 6down/3up while showing LTE service on my device. I will offer one caveat...it's usually hit or miss INSIDE buildings.
I've complained to Sprint when I couldn't get a phone I bought for my daughter to hands free activate properly inside my house due to lack of service. I was asked about an Airrave device, but it seemed more that they were looking to SELL it to me than GIVE it to me. I honestly should demand it, as I routinely drop calls inside my house or have to walk outside to continue talking. I must say that even though the service I get with my discount through my company isn't extreme given the number and type of devices I have and the data we use, I still sometimes feel like I'm not getting a very good value.

VZW is the choice of my ex-wife, hence they are the devil and are to be destroyed or at least avoided at all cost.
ATT screwed me over back when first gen IPhone came out....after 2 months, I decided the device was stupid and sold it to someone for the exact same $300 I paid for it (sucker)....called ATT and cancelled the line....well, they left it open for 5 more months (of course not sending me a bill so I would KNOW this), then sent me to collections for the $300 bucks. Hence, they are the devil and are to be destroyed or at least avoided at all cost.

I tried in the Note 3 forum but it's a cluster fu.. over there so I am gonna try here. Does anyone or has anyone used this plan? I want to switch to this one so I can use my phone as a hot spotfor my computer when I'm at home but I don't want to hit some fine print limit. So I'm hoping someone here has done the same in the past.

That will give you truly unlimited data from your phone, with I think 3gb of native tethering.
Do a search and you'll find a lot of answers on how to acomplish what you're trying to do.
Keywords: WiFi tether router
Hope this helps.

Thanks For The reply but that's not quite was I was asking about. Getting around the tethering limits is relatively easy I was curious if I use say 100gb playing like Final Fantasy 14 plus my normal usage will t-mobile come at me and say I've used to much data you know?

Some of these people who use it as a dedicated internet shouldn't advertise it.
this is not how T-mobile setup their plans.
$80 unlimited is phone only data. The plan included 5GB tethering over t-mobile hotspot app.

??? Self-limited or Communty-limited, Unlimited Data ???
Why should someone who is paying for an unlimited data service, not utilize it as to their own prospective needs, or be punished/restricted for doing so???? Anyone urging the same for anyone elses say, TV usage??? Or HULU views??? Isn't it at all feasible, in this world of tolerance (haha), that someones legitimate needs might just be different from someone elses???
Wanna punish someone??? Why not suggest say, the Service Provider, who makes BILLIONS (in profit) annually, providing a service that CLEARLY does NOT cost what is charged, by any reasonable standard?!?!? And I'm OFF my SOAPBOX!!!

Consciously using and abusing versus using subconscious is different. Like me I don't monitor what I use. is use Wi-Fi when I can, etc. I don't rely on my MOBILE phone for my internet. Why don't they get an ISP for heavy use. If you use 100gb pm on a cellphone in a billing period, you must not work and thus you should have access to a WiFi network. To brag about using high amount of data is duh mm .. Learn the game! I'm thinking of the future I don't want them to punish all of a for a few defiant couch potatoes

This is America ...... EVERYTHING is over priced. That's a moot argument. My argument is on principal and moral. I'm not defending the business at all. They all can lower prices. But I like the idea when I use my LTE I don't have to count !megabytes, when people use LTE on purpose because they feel they can now we risk losing unlimited

I can see both the points. Eventually the "abusers" will lift the already high prices to an even higher point. That being said - we, as Americans, get absolutely raped on the cost of our service. Not to mention we are among the slowest in the world when we take what we pay into consideration. So part of me is saying "**** these corporate criminals..." The point of he T-Mobile network isn't about coverage it's about data that's what they advertise is the "data strong " network they have set up their network to handle the amount of data that is being used unlike the other carriers that have capped data

First of all jack ass I was throwing an arbitrary number out there. I have no idea how much data a MMO pulls. Secondly what's the difference between using a cell phone for my Internet and using Comcast besides I can get similar speed for a much better price using T-Mobile. I am only home for maybe two hours after work and that's enough time to eat mess around on the computer for a bit and crash so **** off with your generalizations. It'd make zero sense for me to spend an extra $100/mo on Comcast just to use maybe 20hrs/wk. If you want to pay my bill then I'll call them tomorrow. If not piss off.

not saying the companies don't make a lot of money, but you do realize that its not 100% profit, setting up 4G LTE and LTE+ speeds for networks is HUGELY expensive.
That being said, competition will always drive prices lower. I sell phones/activations and trust me, 95% of people use 1 gb (or less) each month. we are such a minority that it doesn't matter how much we use.

You're absolutely right. It can go both ways, but at the end of the day truly unlimited is truly unlimited. No matter what the nay sayers may think, their opinion can't over rule the fact that truly unlimited is what it is. Lol...
TM, pushed the whole truly unlimited campaign like mad angry birds head on first. Now that customers are utilizing a service that they signed up for, doesn't give TM any right to try and take that away. Truly Unlimited Data is what customers are paying for.
So for them to even complain now is called: hypocrisy.
It also seems that the ones complaining are perhaps jealous or can't afford the $80 plan or maybe jealous of those who have a grandfathered unlimited plan? Who knows. ..
The fact remains, no matter how you tip the scale, documentation will beat conversation any day.
Truly Unlimited is Truly Unlimited. Pretty black and white to me.
And for goodness sake, what's the difference of streaming 1080p Netflix on your phone vs your 1080p TV? ROFL....

If someone uses 10000gb in a month or 10gb a month the infrastructure cost doesn't change.
I use on average 15-20 GB a month. T-Mobile is flat out the best carrier with the best prices for what they offer. If I'm paying for unlimited data, regardless of whether I use 20 or I use 200 it shouldn't make any difference. T-Mobile makes it a point to advertise that truly unlimited means just that: truly unlimited. They expect people to switch to their network for that very reason. I don't see the person using 300gb a month as an abuser; he/she is taking advantage of a service that is being paid for. They aren't doing it in an unethical way or cheating the system.

It's MY data. I will do with it as I please.
Your data? You own the cellular towers and the wireless spectrum?
Good for T-Mobile. Hope they catch all the jokers who abuse the system
Really glad T-Mobile is going this route. At least they found a way to keep Unlimited and not cut it out completely like AT&T and Verizon did (not that I use it, anyway) and I'm glad they're taking measures to make sure that the rest of us don't have to deal with congestion or unfair practices commited by others.
I mean, if i pay for unlimited data then tethering shouldn't be seen as a huge problem...
Sometimes i need a large file to be stored/opened on my desktop computer. I could download the file onto my phone over LTE and then just transfer the file from phone to computer, or i could tether my connection and avoid waiting the time it would take to transfer the file from one device to the other. The point being - if i pay for unlimited data then i'm definitely going to use as much as i want. I do not have an internet connection at my house currently as i'm moving out very soon, however i still like to watch Netflix in my downtime/before bed/etc. I would still be using my unlimited data to stream shows or movies if i were to watch things on my device but i would rather WiFi tether so that i can cast it to my chromecast. I'm not using any MORE data than i would if i had not tethered.
I understand T-Mobile would be mad because they're not making money off an additional service they charge for convenience. But it doesn't necessarily mean i'm abusing the unlimited 4g that i pay monthly for.
So, since he didn't say what "technology" they "now" have, I will take a wild guess and assume T-Mo will blindly shoot those messages out to folks who "exhibit" signs of tethering. Unless they packed another sniffer into the FW, there is not much they can do, especially if one uses a vpn service. I may be wrong, so share whatever knowledge you have.
I too question how they're going to find out who's "abusing." But I agree with their fight against the abusers. It is not cool to pay $30/mo for unlimited LTE data and use it as your primary home internet connection when T-Mobile didn't intend for it to be used that way. They still have truly unlimited for a reason, along with all their other un-carrier moves. They're trying to make the industry better for consumers. Don't take advantage of the one good wireless company we have.

I do tether, but I also don't do it that often. I actually try to build up my data stash (I pay for 11GB/mo) yet I also download heavy once or twice a month.
Seriously, who the f**k uses 2TB of cellular data each month? That's what all-in-one plans are for.
For the sake of comparison, Comcast's soft cap is around 300GB per month. On a wired connection. At speeds far higher than what you'll get over T-Mobile's 4G LTE.
Legere tossed out the 2TB cellular data figure in reference to what we assume are the highest bandwidth users that circumvented the tethering cap. That's no accident. That is willful abuse of the terms and conditions that clearly state that you get 7GB for tethering with the unlimited plan.
I think Legere could have done a better job of delivering the message because it probably didn't need to be a public announcement if only 3,000 users are guilty, and I find the technical validity of his argument a little weak, but I don't think there's legitimate outrage over this either. Many people who've responded in other blogs and forums lack reading comprehension and street smarts to think that "unlimited" is to be taken in the most literal fashion interpretable. Absolutes in favor of the consumer don't really exist in the marketing-heavy consumer product industry, and the government won't save us either. Not when the FDA says 0.49g trans fat = 0g.
Unlike the phone that should be yours to do as you please if you have it fully paid off, your cellular service is a subscription that is subject to the carrier's terms. Whether or not those terms make sense, they won't hesitate to enforce them. T-Mobile is by far the least bad carrier and it's best that its subscribers don't push them towards the business models of the other US carriers.
I agree snake about legere. 300GB is my Comcast soft cap

To provide the best possible experience for the most possible customers, and to minimize capacity issues and degradation in network performance, we manage Unlimited high-speed data usage through prioritization. Unlimited high-speed data customers who use more data than what 97% of all customers use in a month, based on recent historical averages (updated quarterly), will have their data usage de-prioritized compared to the data usage of other customers at times and at locations where there are competing customer demands for network resources, which may result in slower data speeds. Customers who use data in violation of their Rate Plan terms or T-Mobile's Terms and Conditions may be excluded from this calculation. Data that might be whitelisted for other (fixed allotment) plan options, such as data associated with Music Freedom, does not count towards Unlimited high-speed data customers’ usage for this calculation. Based on network statistics for the most recent quarter, Unlimited high-speed data customers who use more than 21GB of data during a billing cycle will be de-prioritized for the remainder of the billing cycle in times and at locations where there are competing customer demands for network resources. At the start of the next bill cycle, the customer’s usage status is reset, and this data traffic is no longer de-prioritized.

When it comes to cellular service, people need to get it out of their heads that "unlimited" is the same word that is defined in the dictionary. It's not. It's a marketing term. It's probably legal as far as the government is concerned. And now we circle back to 0.49g trans fat = 0g.

The reality is there are alot of people being cheap. They don't want to pay for cable TV or cable Internet and decide to use their smartphone data to run their whole house. They are using T-Mobile's $30 or $20 unlimited data plan to replace a $150 to $200 cable and internet bill. These same jerk offs are some of the same people running around saying unlimited means unlimited. They know they are getting over on T-Mobile. Where in the entire world can you pay $20 or $30 a month and get unlimited cell data, home Internet, and cable TV. NO WHERE.

I'm in no way supporting what marketing departments do, but the lack of oversight to their practices has led to the landscape we have today. I've worked in and with marketing teams before and I often don't agree with their ethics, but I also know the tricks they use to hook people. I'm advocating buyer research and awareness. I think it's foolish for consumers these days to take buzzwords like "unlimited" at face value and assume that there isn't fine print or obscure terms involved.
You're asking for an entire industry to become ethical. I say it's up to the buyer to gain the knowledge to make an educated decision because I'm not waiting for an entire industry whose purpose is to extract money from consumers to teach them about the tricks and mind games they use on them.
