Hello there, guys! I've bought my Xperia X8 quite some time ago and I've always read about custom roms having better performance and stuff. After some months of both amazement and frustration, I've decided to give it a try: X8 is a great phone, but it gets slowed down frequently, not to mention the random reboots when I'm doing something simple such as internet browsing.
After reading a few threads over here, I've came up with a few questions to ask before continuing. Any help with these would be greatly appreciated!
1 - I've decided I want to give doixanh's GingerDX a try, along with his LinuxDX kernel, if possible. The problem is, he developed all that stuff using an E15i, while I have a E15a (I live in Brazil, and I understand that USA's basebands are used here). Do you guys know if that would be a problem?
That leads me to my next question:
2 - As far as I could understand from reading this and this, and that wasn't much, I can always flash the right baseband and my 3G network will work correctly... Is that correct? What should I do, if anything, to make ROMs made for E15i work in my E15a without running into 3G problems?
3 - I want to know if my phone came bundled with a Synaptics or a Cypress touch adapter. From reading here, I could either install doixanh's module or run that command line. I tried the command line, but it isn't letting me access superuser mode. Is there any way to find out my adapter without disassembling or rooting my phone?
I'm pretty sure I'll end up coming with more questions, but that's it for now. Thanks in advance
good question
great Q
anyway what baseband do you have. do you have xxx015 or a different one?
2: yes 3g needs to be on there unless ya got a pay as you go phone. 3g is an important thing to phones. its like petrol for cars.(well a bit like it anyway)
and i have had no problems on my x8 with the 3g so go for it but be careful.
things can go wrong if anything isnt flashed properly. im no expert @ linuxdx but i do use gingerdx myself.(v013 its never let me down)
now for the multitouch (yay)
you cannot have multitouch mods if your phone isnt rooted. if your phone isnt rooted then you cant install roms, kernals, basebands and other stuff like that.
if you phone is rooted then, what colour is your x8. is it black or white. if its black then check out a youtube vid that has all of the cypress tips tricks and that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZNqv5VQQBk
i await any reply
Thank you for taking the time to read my query, wiibso.
1 - My baseband is 015.
2 - I hear ya. 3G isn't only the blood and life of the X8, it is actually very important for me academically speaking. I really need it working, so that's why I'm asking. But my original question still stands. You're in England, right? Does that mean that you have an E15i, seeing as E15i is the European standard? If so, you having no problems doesn't necessarily mean I won't run into them, seeing as I have an E15a... What I need to know is if I'll encounter problems installing a ROM meant for E15i in my E15a, and if that hypothetical problem could be solved by flashing the right baseband in after that.
3 - I'm guessing that that means that I CAN'T know my adapter unless I root or disassemble my phone, right?
Again, thanks for the answers already given!

yeah, i live in England, installing the rom shouldnt be the problem, its gonna be installing xrecovery that really will get you stuck, lol it took me 4 days of xploring how to install it but eventually i got it and managed to get my custom rom installed. what i mean is technically speaking, as long as you have a sony ericsson xperia x8 things would stay the same.
you have baseband 015. your good to root you phone and do the stuff you want to do
A-3- yes you will need to root your phone to check wich chip or install multitiuch mods.
which brings me to my conclusion
conclusion: basically everything you said you wanted to do is all based on rooting your phone ....

Hi people,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first thread..
Here is my situation, i just recently bought a Captivate through ebay and its locked.. I will try to find the unlock code using the method in this forum.. after i unlock it, i think i would love to update the android os to 2.2..
will any of this process have the slightly chance of bricking my Captivate?
i will not try to root my Captivate yet coz of the possibility of bricking it..
I will wait until there are solutions to this bricking thing, or when i feel bored i might try this.. ^_^
also, if you guys are kind enough, i would love to know what all kind of things that will brick a Captivate..
Thanks..
I am no expert but XDA helped me with my first smartphone (Palm Treo 750 bought on ebay) and I did everything without any problem. You need to read much until you understand everything clearly and always follow the instructions step by step because these guys know their stuff. Currently buy a Captivate. I love this phone. Already rooted and Im to upgrade FroYo without fear because if it becomes a brick I know that here finds it solution. Good luck.
got to read
Yep, that's the key. Read, read, read, and then you will have to read some more! I'm new to the board also, and this is my first smartphone. I've spent the past month reading threads in the development section when I have the chance (which is not very often...) and there is still a LOT of reading and learning I need to do!
Don't forget to use the search, which might or might not help. Honestly the biggest help is to read all the posts in all the threads - which will take a while!!
Lot's of great help on this board. I'm pretty close to feeling up to speed enough to cook this thing without fear of bricking...
I would wait a while before you do anything like installing the JI6 Froyo ROM. From what I've read, you have more chance of bricking your Cappy during that process than by doing anything else.
BTW, by just rooting or unlocking your unit you have very little chance of bricking your phone. It's what you can do after you root your phone that can cause it to brick. lol
Like the above poster said; "READ, READ, READ" and then when you decide you want to do something, read some more. I've been reading these forums since before August 15 when I got my captivate, and I STILL haven't done anything like rooting because I'm staying "stock" until the official froyo update is released.
Thanks for the nice reply guys.. and yes, i will keep on reading through this forum..
btw, from what i understand, rooting will enable your phone to install android apps from worldwide market right? does it safe? i mean, i heard that someone bricked their phone while installing some apps..
If you are interested in side-loading apps, try the Android Sideload Wonder Machine (it's called something like that). It works well for me. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but it is useful to know.

once you are rooted, you would still have to enable market access (for apps outside your att restricted market)
i would like to see how installing an app bricked a phone.....i call shens.
rooting is easy, and just by rooting your phone you wont brick it. you would actually have to do something to harm it. even then, its all recoverable via ODIN.
Sorry for a noob question.. but, what is JI6? ^_^
JI6 is the version of froyo (android 2.2). Go on the phone to settings-> about phone-> it's in the baseband version. Mine is I897UCJI6 (froyo).
Hi, Thanks if your reading this and answering me i really can understand what to do so ill just ask so many stupid question and see if you know some of them. so First how do i know if i have a GSM / CDMA?. Next if i got either the two one what is the best way to optimize my Tab. in a certain way that i can root/flash/rom/hack or etc. and my main concern is that if i was to return all it back like a factory restore can it be done?.
So in anyway possible help me i bought my SGT in Philippines and we get like a Open Line SGT i can use all our Telcom providers and use Different Sim Cards so i really can't tell what to do first.

You have the GSM Tab, I'm sure. CDMA is NOT very common in the Philippines, and you have a sim card slot, CDMA doesn't have this.
Also, unless your Tab was illegally imported from somewhere, you have the international version.

I recommend you try out your stock ROM first, and read heavily on these forums. Know your Tab, current firmware, etc..
Once you've decided to play around your tab's ROM, then follow these guidelines. NOTE: It is possible that you will end up with a very expensive paperweight (brick) if you make a mistake somewhere along the way. Tread carefully.
First, enter *#1234# in your phone dialer to get your Tab's firmware.
2nd: backup your data (in Kies) and apps (in Titanium Backup)
3rd: Root your device using SuperOneClick (this voids your warranty)
SuperOneClick with instructions can be found here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
4th: Verify that your "bootloader" is not locked. Last few releases by Samsung locked the bootloader so flashing the firmware may damage or brick your Tab.
You can use Bootloader patch to check. It's here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071&highlight=*#1234#
Again, read carefully and follow the directions..
5th: Finally, one of the best ROMs out there is Overcome. You will find all you need here. --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082
I suggest you print out the included instructions (in pdf). You will also find all the links to files that you need in this thread.
I cannot stress further the gravity of your decisions... .. Follow the steps carefully and faithfully..
6th: If something goes wrong (I hope not), please don't blame me.
Best of luck!
P.S.
I know my reply is a bit long (I've done my homework somewhat), but I'd love to get a small thank you by clicking on this button............................................... --V

Thanks for the warning i kinda know Bricking and doing this to Galaxy Tab is Voiding your Warranty but i was so stupid i cant tell if i am using GSM but now for what you told me GSM is a Tab that use Sim and for using my Tab now its kinda great but i wanna maximize my Tab so i can do different things and for now ill just read and read but still going to wait for more things and before i do this i am going to enjoy my Tab. Already Sold my iPad and i kinda want to know if SGT 7" is already good or ill be buying the new SGT 8.9 and 10.1 so for now thank you very much and already reading some files but wish some Filipino already tried this but i think ill do just fine i can understand some part but still need to read first and will ask again if need help. BTW are you a Filipino or ???
I'm a Filipino too.
Voiding your warranty should be no problem since you can unroot your phone back. Moreover, I'm pretty sure that you got the GSM one since as Sef pointed out, it's pretty rare for us to use a CDMA device (partly thanks to our backwards and slow internet back home).
Moreover, to optimize your device, just try the ROMs out. You should read the guides how to flash them, of course, whether you wanna use Heimdall or Odin.
Pinoy ako! Hehehe.. (Im Filipino too! LOL)
I feel the same way now about flashing.. I am confident in doing it but am still doing heavy research. Take note that some roms do not have all the features of the stock rom, and they have bugs too.
Maybe in a month or so, I`ll flash this tab and then update this thread.

Okay Thanks ill be doing it too in a few weeks or months just need to double check some details and if i make it success full ill make a guide how i did mine. wish someone in phil can make a video or guide . i keep hearing that using mod ROMs rocks. but still lets see what happen.
hi bro. im also in the phils. ive got my tab from smart for two months, and i'd say im quite satisfied with the stock rom. with all the posts i read from various threads regarding problems in installing custom roms (the latest, also here, regarding overcome sucking the tab's batt), im not fully convinced to try it. my two cents: why fix something that is not broken?
ive had my sonyericsson xperia x8 also for quite sometime now, and flashing it is much less complicated than doing it in the tab. i simply cant risk bricking my tab!
also,a wk ago i had my tab repaired in samsung head office because of dim display. they replaced the lcd even if my tab is already rooted. so rooting i think doesnt make you lose your warranty! they even upgraded my firmware. love the new date, time and weather widgets.
i will just wait for the gingerbread upgrade this may!

im finding it hard to use kies with the tab here in the office. i already tried two computers, one with xp and the the other with vista. kies in my windows xp laptop at home successfully detected my tab. ill try when i get home, and ill post after.
to my fellow users of sgt here in the philippines: what case are you using with your tab, and where did you get it? i cannot find the best case for sgt here in the philippines.
On my side. It detects my tab but says its version cannot be updated.
As for casing im using a rubber case

Hi Guys
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me.
I have a Galaxy S+ that just randomly reboots. It is running 2.3.3 i believe (Friend is using the phone atm)
I got the phone on contract and actually went through 5 phones (and entire stores stock) only to find that all of them have this issue.
No i believe that its a software problem and not hardware as Samsung themselves have said nothing about it and the Samsung Specialist @ Vodacom (my cellular provide) has said that there isn't anything that they have heard or that they know of.
I have already rooted the phone, obviously the problem was happening before the rooting of it.
So my question is that does anyone think if i updated the rom to 2.3.6 or whatever else is available it might fix the problem?
I would prefer to keep the rom stock but will go with idea's that anyone would have.
Secondly where would i be able to get updated stock Samsung i9001 roms?
O really wanna give me gf this phone at the end of the month so please if someone could help me i would appreciate it!
Many thanks in advance

i'm not sure about the rebooting problem, but 2.3.3 had other problems in my country, u couldn't send an sms if u had 3G ON , so t-mobile updated all the devices to 2.3.5 , it might be a sign that 2.3.3 has some bugs. my opinion would be to flash one of the stock roms out there , or check if u have an update through kies (although i don't recommend updating with kies as there's a big chance it will freeze during instalation - ya , another crappy samsung software).

sudden restart
i am new around here,i got a i9001 and it sudden restarts on every rom i installed, costom or stock. first i taught that it restarts because of its ram, like the memory dump on pc, but then i saw, that i rebooted it and after 10-15 min it sudden restarted. i've been to my carrier for warranty, and what they did it was only a flash of rom version 2.3.6 and they gave it back to me. after about 2 hours since i got it back, it did the sudden restart again. srry for my english.

they said when the phone came back "the phone did not present the problem sent for" on the warranty paper. They know about this problem, but they dont wanna lose money with extra costs for i9001 owners, it was a mistake made by samsung on this model and they dont want to assume it. I read more about this snapdragon oc processor used on i9001 (1.4 Ghz) and it says that it overheats sometimes rarely in first months, but after some heavily daily use it enters a restart loop ( probably after your warranty expires) and the phone becomes useless. sorry to say that for i9001 owners.
"Recently, a growing number of smartphone users experience temperature-related CPU failures that seem to be inherent in Snapdragon-powered devices, and typically manifest only after several months of smartphone use. Symptoms of this hardware failure are unexpected reboots of the phone, especially in higher ambient temperatures and under high CPU load and/or Wifi use. The phone may then enter a "reboot-cycle", which can only be stopped by removing the battery and cooling the phone. Over the period of several weeks or months, this behavior becomes increasingly frequent and occurs at progressively lower ambient temperatures and CPU loads, until it reaches a point where the phone can only be used in refrigerated and/or air-conditioned environments. It is speculated that deteriorating solder bonds of the BGA matrix (i.e., a lost connection between the Snapdragon-CPU and its motherboard) due to thermal stresses occurring in normal operation is the underlying problem for these failures, and CPU re-heating procedures have been proposed to remedy this problem, but so far with mixed results.[23] These hardware issues have not yet been officially acknowledged by companies that use the Snapdragon processor in their smartphones, even though a very large number of devices (HD2, Desire, Evo, Droid Incredible, Xperia, Galaxy S, etc.) seem to be affected. "
this thing is copied from a romanian site, which was meant to be a review for the snapdragon processors.

dont do it mate, you have 11w44 and upon flashing a custom kernel you need to have an unlocked bootloader which is very risky to do and it is not advisable to do so, stick with stock kernel and stock ROMs
Unlock your bootloader with setool. Do not ask how, setool requires special hardware, so this is a paid method. If you try to unlock your bootloader with the free method, the result will be a hard brick what also need setool to resurrect the phone, so do not try it.
Search for a service or a person who have setool in your city/country.

Ah... I guess I will stick with stock kernel. Thanks anyway . (Pressed thanks for all of you )
mine is 11w48 and i also searched and googled a lot but no satisfying result. it is very risky to do so. i am satisfied with my stock kernel. try to do the same as me . trying to unlock your bootloader may result in not having any x8 anymore of course as I know there are ways to un-brick it later but...
...it is expensive

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but my dad wants this phone, and it will more than likely be newer than 11w29( I think that was the last unlockable one) and I was wondering, what's a good rom that can be used on stock, that doesn't need to be for gaming, multitasking or whatever WE would do, but what a 47 year old man does, like making calls, text..really basic stuff, but I don't want to keep on Eclair, and as I read, ICS and JB can ONLy be flashed on unlocked bootloaders, right? Is there any hope to have this phone unlocked further than 11w29?
hopefully you get a phone with 11w28 and down date, but the chances are really small. since your dad is going to use it, i believe stability is the most important? if you don't want to stay on eclair (which is good if you're okay with no app2sd feature), i'd recommend a froyo rom. which one really is up to you. just check the ones on the dev threads.
Yeah, stability is the most important, it's not like he'll want to play games haha. Would a GB rom be okay? I saw there's a Gingerdx rom that seems stable enough. Thanks!

yes. if you're going to go gb, gdx is a great choice.
i updated with this rom yesterday through twrp, flash, install, reboot, flash ftf, and it all went smoothly.
the only problem is i have no mobile data at all. none.
wifi works great, but the second i leave my house all i got is text and phone

Damm...wrong button..well, ok, you have tnx now
Use rom thread to ask something related to it.
But yes, you should use bin folder for 6909, you probably don't have right files.
Ask on thread and guys will help you, someone will have same device..

im less then 10 posts i cant post on the development threads
so thats why i posted here, i tried a 6906 ftf and it didnt work, figured out gps and mobile network are not working.
great rom tho i like it i just want it to work correctly
After read the posts above, I decided to ask before do anything...
My Z1 is C6943, and I was thinking if this ROM will work if I flash the C6943 kernel after flash the ROM.
They said "We only support c6902 and c6903, you can try it but we give no guarantee". So, here I am... and the question is: It will work??? or I'll have the same problems with mobile data and GPS and possibly other things?
In another scenario, what if I flash via flashtools the C6903 kernel after flash the ROM?
im gonna just wait till they support 6906 , went to the evo black rom so i could get my internet back,
wtb a paranoid android rom for locked bootloaders zz

YES!!! Is there a light!!!
I just Installed the ROM a few minutes ago, and everyhting is working!
That is what I did:
First off all, I wipe the phone under Wipe/Factory reset.
Installed the ROM from external SD Card, and then POWER OFF instead reboot.
Holding volume down, I plug the USB and then flashed the stripped FTF for C6943.
Now I have the ROM working, with GPS, Mobile Data, WIFI, NFC and everything else.
Don't know yet if I have something with misbehavior, because I did it 10 minutes ago.
Well, is it. Thanks!!!
GREAT
Someone else who follows the instructions and is so surprised it works he has to share how he did it...and basically quotes the install instructions...

Hi gregbradley, first of all, I have to say thank you...
I follow your posts and I see every day your effort to help people like me.
I know your acknowledgement about many many things, and it helps me to clarify a LOT of doubts without even PM you or even ask silly question, even when I know that you can be ironic and a little rude sometime. (I'm saying by me, about my perceptions)
About your comment I want to say 3 things:
1 Yes, I shared how I did it, if you read my posts above, you will see that I was afraid to be on a boot loop after flash the ROM, or don't have mobile data and other functionalities after that.
2 Yes, I basically quote the install instructions to show how easy was the installation for those who want to do the same. Spread the word is what I believe.
And
3 It's not my first android phone that I root, install custom ROMs, flash kernels, etc... I just want to prevent to do something wrong and transform my phone in a beautiful piece of nothing...
Again, thank you for all your support on XDA forums, and I'm sure that you makes this place better and better everyday.
Well said, and I apologise if you thought I was being rude, that was not my intention
