This was a known problem with custom kernels for a while. Most kernels have now rectified it, so download a newer version of your kernel, install it and see if it helps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKYtCKvOPmg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
this is a video of the problem, you can see it at 1:00...is this the kernel problem?now i don't have the phone,so i can't test...
if you use a spica or swiftextreme kernel, i suggest you change your kernel. you can use a stock mod rom, i would recommend neoblaze kernel. i use spica kernel a few weeks ago and i have same problem with you. i change neoblaze kernel and this problem solved...
I am using spica s latest kernal and everything is fine no dead areas on the screen and great battery too. I am currently using topogigi 2 sr3 rom

I've watched your video, and it does indeed seem like your touchscreen has a dead-zone 2/3s up on the screen.
Most likely it's a hardware problem, but you can of course try to factory reset the phone first and see if it helps, but I doubt it. And no, this is not related to the kernel-problem.
In the "Optimus 2X Accessories" forum there are threads which mention screen- and digitizer-replacements, you could ask in that forum for the cheapest way to replace it outside warranty. I've no experience with that myself, sorry.
I was using Lg p990 v10f from India.. yesterday unexpectedness phone was shutdown., i try to turn on black screen of death and count.. reboot.., i try to update my phone to 2.3.4 .., its reboot was clear and now working fine., but still phone display blank only.., what can i do.., kindly tell me any solution

Hi all.
I am currently using the latest version of Slick2X-F 4.1 606 ril.
I think i have found out why my phone reboots spontaneously sometimes (2 reboots a day and sometimes more depending on where i am)
It happens when switching from 3G + WIFI, this leads me to think it's a error in the WIFI driver / 3G /H or we need a kernel patch.
I have tried all basebands and now i am using the newest and 606 ril.
Could a developer please take a look at this log.
http://xwb.dk/android_debug.log
I know it says kernel panic but the question is why it goes into kernel panic, i am a skilled Linux administrator but i can't figure out why.
I hope this helps others which is currently in the same situation.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
I dont know much about this, but have you tried a different kernal?? to see if this still happens??
If it is the kernal that is causing the problem surely everyone else using that rom + kernal would be experiencing the same.

I catch kernel panic when my OX2 automatically switches from 3G/H to WIFI i have just tried to switch off WIFI and i didn't catch kernel panic for a whole day, sometimes it did it 2 - 3 times a day.
I have also tried to shutdown facebook sync, because i read in the debug log sometimes about sync, that could also be the key i am not sure.

Thanks i will try those in the weekend.
I havn't had a single kernel panic since i removed facebook sync and uninstalled Y5.
I will now install Y5 and setup auto wifi on/off and see if the kernel panic comes back, if not it must be facebook sync.
btw i have not tried a new kernel.

tried moops_r3.zip but i am unable to boot up using that kernel.
tried ternityProject Kernel --Experimental Branch-- v2.3 FroYo -update.zip which is so far working great.
This is due to i i had 2 times kernel panic the last 2 days, and i didn't install Y5, i did however use WIFI and 3G/H.
Update:
just flashed EternityPRJ_P990KRN_1.5b.zip due to BSOD 2 times using ernityProject Kernel --Experimental Branch-- v2.3 FroYo -update.zip.
Will update you later about the progress.
Hi, I have rooted using Doomlord's method. But I have problems waking the note up from sleep. Upon pressing home/power button, the black screen displays random red/blue/green/white pixels appearing slowly until the entire screen is filled like in milkyway. I have to try repeatedly to get back to my widget locker screen. Anyone can help? Thank you.

Yeah it looks pretty cool. like the milky way. Haha I think it's just a problem with the set's display. I'm fine when on stock firmware and kernel. When I tried flashing franco kernel the problem recurred. Found a guy on franco.kernel's thread with the same issue.

Did you recently buy your SGN? I remember reading somewhere that it is due to the newer notes' kernel sources. I get the same issues too. So atm, I just stick with a rooted CF kernel.

Yes it's only a couple of weeks old someone with similar issues has rocket rom v22 and has no issues, so maybe you'd wanna try also.

I really have no idea man. I hope there'd be a fix. I tried flashing rocket rom v22 and got bootloop. Not sure if i did it wrong or if it's the new kernel causing the problem reverted back to stock.

Hey, I have the same problem and after my research, our note from SG which I believe you recently bought too needs to use kernel 2.3.6.14 above. So suppose your rom is fitted with say a Franco kernel, what you can do is:
1. Flash the rom, then after which reboot and make sure it loads fine. Access back to recovery with VOL UP + MENU + POWER, flash a new kernel.
2. replace the kernel in the .zip of the rom and then flash it as normal.
Scared the **** out of me too, I thought I bricked my phone
Kernel related 100%
Hello every1
I just installed Stock ICS LPD kernel ROM & root it by following the procedure provided by dr.ketan (clean installation of course) when the device up I noticed the touch response of the screen is not as good as it was on GB ROM..
I reverted back to GB ROM to make sure and then the touch response is good..
Once I upgraded again to ICS ROM the touch response was sucks for me..
I tried installing new kernel; like Speedmod k3-3 and franco r6, but no use!!!!
Any help or idea to fix this problem?????

Yeah, the stock ICS roms were a bit sluggish, not so responsive at times. But now I'm on RocketRom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654838 )and the touch response is instant. That and zero scroll lag with the launchers (compared to GB) means I'm never going back.
thanks for response I will try and see....
Unfortunately it is the same...

It's so normal on our x8!!! Typing with one finger is recommended!
Simply You can also increase minimum clock of CPU for better touch reaction
sent using" ultimate - ics - standard"
Hmmm. Many x8 users experience touchscreen bug like me
My prob is in the right side of screen in portrait mode cant touch the keyboard letters m,l and p but i can in landscape mode.
I tried all fixes in some other xda treads about this issue and i notice they are simmilar issue and bugs and smething like ghost touches also experience by me.
I get this bug on ginger xperia rom. Tried other roms gdx , zincefil, fde+6, xperia soul beta 10 but the rom sonycm reduces my bug.
I cant flash any kernel coz im unlocked bootloader
11w29 2010 smartphone
Maybe devs can up to this to solve our problems

Guyz listen x8 & w8 has got default touch screen problem from manufacturing it comes to happen in year usage.
I too faced this problem in last september month & i went to sony mobile centre to ask whats wrong, sony mobile told x8.w8 has manufacture defect in 2011 fones so they replaced mine in an week with new body parts, touchpads, speaker etc
Spread the newz that our x8.w8 will face touch problem one or the other day.
Its recommended by Sony to replace old touchscreen before warranty freely because after warranty sony costs 50$ for replacing it.
Cheers

For me its not manufacture defect
Now my touchscreen is fixed by changing rom and module.
You can test it by yourself
What i had done.
Installed rom maxi cm v5 moka > download in xda x8 android development
Installed ax8noals v2 module by andyxx
I used this rom about 4days and the bugs dont come up.
Before this rom i uses xperia soul beta 10 and have a buggy touchscreen which i cant type keyboard button letter p, l , del in portrait mode
So therefore conclude i got the fixed in maxi cm rom and a trial module.
Finally after 3months of suffering of my touchscreen bug finally fixed.
I reflashed 2 rom zencefil stock with noals modules and xperia soul beta 10. No more bugs..
Let me know if others work for them. Send me pm.

Hi,
do we know if the SOD problems are software or hardware related? ( Was gonna link to the SOD thread at Sony, but cant because of few posts. But google "Xperia V random freeze in standby" and your there..)
I am about to send my phone in for service, but since this will propably take a couple of weeks im hoping a software fix would be released.

So you had SOD, set min cpu and it helped?
Which firmware version?
How frequent was the SOD?
How long without?
I use the latest JB rom. I got 1~2 SoD per day before minimal CPU setting change. Now it stands well for more than two days without SoD. The Wifi is on. Maybe my good luck but worth trying.

Wifi of is not an option. Like a sportscar without an engine, but nice to get solid indications that WiFi actual is the problem. Seems like it would be fixable by software then, if only Sony care to take action.
Hmmm... a SoD again. :crying:

From my experience using Xperia V Stock ROM Singapore FTF Jelly Bean for 3 weeks, I must say that it is the best ROM I ever used for my Xperia V. Better than my stock ROM Malaysia ICS version. Give it a try and feel it.

This thread is about the SOD( "Sleep of Death") problems that some users have experienced on their Xperia V.
With the purpose of figuring out if this is a hardware( need to get phone replaced) or software( can be fixed by update).
So if you never had any issues with the SOD on your phone, on either ICS or JB, the information about which rom you think is the best do not help with the question asked in this thread. Please read before posting...

Have you tried a factory reset? When I had this issue on my Xperia TL, (before I rooted it and installed XperimenT) I uninstalled a ton of apps and disabled the ATT apps. It was doing the SOD every night. I would go through any recent apps you've installed and delete/disable them. If that doesn't work do a factory reset and _slowly_ reinstall apps. I think this is a case where something is interfering with Sony's stock firmware.
for those still having SOD, maybe u can try this. not sure it helps or not. because before i install jellybean, i review the code in build.prop first. so that is why it didnt happen on me for 2 weeks. well, i test it out yesterday.
use either ES file explorer or Root explorer, go to system -> build.prop.
find this line dalvik.vm.heapsize=36m, put a # in front of it to disable this code.
it could be because there is another similar code, thus conflict. u can find another similar line at the bottom of build.prop.
hope it helps!
