[Q] Heimdall brick - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello my friends captivate was bricked so I tried flashing back to stock using heimdall. Once heimdall was done the phone booted up properly but when we turned it off later the phone wont boot past the at&t screen. Should I reflashing using heimdall or is there something else I can do? Any help would be very appreciated.

Its soft brick. If it has CWM you can try factory reset, cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe. Or reflash.

I can't get into cwm

The issue you're having isn't in any way related to heimdall. It sounds like a corrupt filesystem, did you turn off normally or pull the battery?
Regardless, if you can't get into recovery then you need to flash again. If you can't get into download mode then you need to use a custom jig.

I turned it off normally. I have a jig and I'm just about to try to reflash.

I would recommend redownloading the package. Could have been a bad file. Though as long as the package does not include bootloaders, doesn't matter since you will only soft brick and you have a Jig.

I redownloaded the package and reflashed. Everything seems to be working now.

Long shot but read this
not found any responses. Here is my situation:
*My computer recognizes the phone *ODIN recognizes the phone *the phone is in download mode *ODIN gets stuck *I have tried multiple times, but it continuously gets stuck at DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!! *The max I have waited is around 30ish minutes *3 button combo works on my phone *I have tried non-one click ODIN to JH2 and it freezes on modem.bin
I have used ODIN before, and I have no idea why this is not working. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Try rebooting your computer. Then try again if same issue then
Also maybe redownload the rom software in case of corruption
I am not sure of this but at this point might as well throw that in.

[Q] Captivate stuck in Fugu Boot loop

So I was trying to follow the directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249
But I did NOT have a KF1 Rom. Now I'm stuck in a fugu fish reboot loop. I have tried VOLup and Down + power, I have tried VOL Up+power, I even made a 301k resister jig, all to no avail.
Does anyone have any more suggestions on getting my phone up and running again?
Flash dgs kf1 kernel and your set
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
The fugu is a kernel swap root method.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Oh yeah use Odin to flash the kernel...or you can just flash a stock rom and star over
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Same problem here
I'm having the same issue. The problem is that there is an infinite loop during loading. Either:
1. the att screen to fugu fish, repeat.
2. the "initiating charging" to reboot.
adb wont recognize it and because plugging it in takes it into a new reboot, the hard button combo wont work.
I've tried all of the possible button combos.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the fugu is gonna do that I believe its just for rooting purposes. Pull battery enter download mode flash the correct kernel for your Tom with Odin. Good to go

Yeah, you're right but I couldn't 3-button into download. I jig fixed and now I'm good and loaded cog5.
The only problem I have now (which I had before) is that I cannot boot into recovery mode. It just boots to the at&t screen and then gets brighter.

Load Cog kernal and you will have recovery back.
As popfan said, you need to flash the cognition 5 beta 2 kernel before you flash the final rom.

please people for the love of all that you hold dear. Stop flashing till you know WTH your doing. It is hard to be willing to help others when hundreds of people make the same mistake because they are not reading and and being LAZY by just following a video. I am hard pressed to feel sorry for bricks that come from lack of effort on the users part. With the coming changes you may want to be sure you understand what your doing before you do it.

Nope, not a brick. You probably have a working button combination, but the recovery simply isn't there. You need to boot into download mode and flash a kernel.

Phone died after flashing with Odin

I have none commercial sample of I8190 with unstable firmware and tried to flash I8190XXALL2 Firmware with odin.
I enetered to download mode and start flashing. the process was successful and odin said: Passed but the phonerebooted and doesn't turns on anymore. I tried to connect charger but it doesn't reacts anymore.

Wipe data before installation of ROM. Use wipe or paramfiles in this forum before flashing firmware.

You may have bricked your phone.
Sent from my GT-I8190 using xda premium
You could try first taking out your battery for 5 minutes.
Then press and hold the buttons to enter download mode while putting the battery back to it's place.
Hope it helps you.
Unfortunately this method doesn't helped.

Google for jig make or buy one , its cheap , and try plugging it in - if it works you should be in download mode and can re flash stock via odin.
Else only way left is to jtag by taking it to Samsung service centre
leap before you think
