[Q] Is 97% battery considered a full charge.

The instructions to flash roms states that we have to fully charge our phone before flashing. Does that mean we have to bump charge to 100% or is a battery charged to 97% considered fully charged.

The full charge is a recommendation, not a requirement. Its likely your battery may not be calibrated correctly if you do not fully charge the battery first. There is a lot of complaining about a ROM killing batteries, after a flash. If you do not flash with a full battery, you should cycle the battery 3 or 4 times and/or calibrate the battery before making any observations or comments about the battery life of your ROM.
Personally when I flash a ROM I start with a odin flash to stock. Then I turn off the phone and charge to full with the phone off. Then boot into recovery, flash CWM (twice) and flash my ROM.
97% is probably fine, but keep in mind your mileage may vary.

not comletely true...
if the phone is already calibrated (or doesnt need it) the battery is fine
the phone ALWAYS charges to 100% then stops charging
lets the phone run on battery power down to 95%
starts charging back to 100%
so depending how quickly you unplug it after it reaches 100% it will start to run down.....

So ... if your battery is calibrated, and you flash a new ROM, thus obliterating the file your phone uses to retain said calibration data, you phone will still remember the calibration info?
I wish I had your phone, mine behaves quite differently.

I have flashed probably 60 times and have calibrated my battery about 5 - 6 times. I've had no issues with it at all.

It depends sometimes on the rom. Some of them charge full but don't show 100% when unplugged.

Thanks .... that added and changed nothing about your response.
Let me slow it down a notch. I said if you flash with low battery you *may* (I used "recommendation" due to using the word "may") have a calibration issue with your new ROM, until your battery is recalibrated. (Based on many hurried flashes) I followed that up with a disclaimer that not every phone behaves the same.
You said that is untrue because your battery constantly dances between 95 and 100% when left plugged in. Just like your newest response this serves absolutely no purpose in explaining where you disagree and why.
Once more for the hearing impaired: your battery stats is a file on your phone. Still with me? Okay. When you flash a new ROM, all the files on your phone are deleted. Still there? Good, I'm glad you're keeping up. So if you delete all files, how does your phone still have that file?
So I guess there are people that have phones that magically retain the battery stats file after deleting it. I was simply saying I want one like that, because mine doesn't do that.

Except you're wrong. When you flash a rom it does not overwrite all files found on your phone. By running a master clear, you can clear out all system files and flash back to stock which will generate new files.
However, it is not necessary to run a master clear for all roms to be flashed. For example, I went from cognition to Paragon without running a master clear and its been a fantastic experience thus far. So, if you didnt run a master clear, your phone still retains its battery file and may take a while to learn its averages. Running a clear battery stats can help your phone learn faster.
To explain this further, take a look at a statistically normal distribution (bell shaped curve). Over time, your phone learns what 100% to 0% is an all in between. Well, over a long enough timeline, your battery starts to get closer to the average which means it will start to say that 98% is a full charge and continue to decline. Its just what happens with batteries. If you clear out this timeline, you start to generate new means. This will not restore the life of your battery but it will give your phone the ability to be more accurate about its current state.

I misunderstand what the screen and odin say when you flash. They both say they are clearing and wiping the data and cache. I almost never do a "Master Clear" from odin.
So when the ROM process says its wiping DATA, CACHE, SYSTEM etc. the respective folders on your phone aren't deleted? That is where I was getting the basis for my commemts. Along with observations when flashing ROMs. Like starting with 60%, using odin to go to stock, leaving md with half of what it said before, flashing a new ROM, and having that ROM say 80%. Then rebooting the phone to have 50%. Then plugging in and rebooting to see 80% again.
If I'm wrong I apologize. All the info I know from flashing ROMs is reading my screens, and interpreting my observations. Maybe my phone IS jacked up, it does this everytime I don't charge to full with the power off before I flash a new ROM.

I didn't charge to full before I flashed either. I'm not an expert by any means but what I posted is my understanding of what happens.
As for what your phone says, who knows what I really is doing. I mean the general process is understood but the specific files and folders that are cleared would be hard to identify.

i can only get my nexus s 4g to charge up to 97% if i have wireless tether enabled... otherwise it considers itself full at 95%

Sudden battery drop down

Hello,
I was wondering if anybody else experiences this behavior:
From time to time the battery of my Galaxy tab drops to 3% (at least this is what Android tells me). I noticed that this often happens when a view change takes place and when I simultanously press the volume control down. Today it also happened on a view change when I was using Skype. When I reboot the device it's showing a normal battery level again (e.g. 43%).
I wonder if this is a hardware issue or if it's a software bug. Anybody experiencing this,too?

Are you rooted/unlocked/rerom'ed at all?
There are various methods to resetting the batteries calibration, but it just depends on what brand you have/what you've done to it.
This is a fairly common problem, and for the most part can be solved easily.

Which app are you talking about ? I have a very similar problem -- battery suddenly goes from ~30% to 1%, the tab starts screaming that I should connect to the charger, and (sometimes) shuts off. If I then wait 10 minutes, the battery will show again 30%, and it might run for awhile, go to 1%, where it will happily "run" (albeit doing nothing) for *HOURS*.
I'm rooted, have BatteryCalibrator installed and run it (I charged it fully, ran the calibrator, and am waiting for it to completely drain -- so that it wont even turn on, to charge it up again). So I'm wondering if you've really fixed this, and how.
I've contacted Samsung about my problem (the tab is about 6 months old) and they told me to do a full reset (special key sequence in telephone -- dont know if this is different from the "factory data reset" in Settings->Privacy).
I haven't done anything with this rooted phone yet, as it has unlocked everything, and I want to make sure I understand how to go back to a fully unlocked state before attempting to update (running XWJJ7). I also dont want Samsung to update it if I have to return it for warranty service....

Recalibrate battery

I want to recalibrate my extended battery and wipe data because the operating system is calibrated to the normal battery. My phones currently rooted with frozen apps. I plan on defrosting them before I wipe data. I can't remember if I will need to re root my phone after a data wipe, also should I un root before I wipe the data for re calibration?

After a new calibration does it matter when u charge it and disconnect it? I know at first its bad cause it messes up the calibration but after that does it matter?

The whole idea of battery calibration is allowing the software to get a good picture of the battery's full potential. After it has that you do not need to worry yourself about how long you charge it or how often.

If I turn a bunch of stuff on to kill the battery faster so that I can charge it over night does that mess up the statistics or no? Like normally I won't have auto sync bluetooth gps and all that on but I turn it on just to kill the battery during calibration that way I can charge it over night but does switching those on during calibration mess up the statistics if they aren't normally used afterwards?

Your best bet is to kill the battery turn the phone off and charge it overnight. Then turn it on.
Find an hour long youtube video and play it a few times.

Ok, first, I looked around and tried stuff like battery calibration etc. but no luck, here's what happened:
I got my galaxy ace and rooted it with CF-ROOT, flashed it using the recovery menu that stock already had.
Phone was ok for 1 week, then it started sucking battery like crazy (also charges too fast), 100% lasts something like 5mins...
(at this point it was still stock with rooted kernel)
Flashed a CM ICS ROM from the forum => same results with battery
Went back to stock, no root anymore => battery still the same
Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks in advance!

Why didn't you use the normal .zip that just adds super user? Maybe we have the same type of Ace that is completely incompatible with flashed kernels. Brings battery problems. Only kernels you can use are the ones that come with the rom you installed.
Reflash stock rom and root using any other .zip around the forums.

Because you said you charge it too fast. Try to charge it for 3 hrs. If u see 100 % that doesn't mean that it is fully charged already

Do this, full use your battery till it totally gets dry and charge it to 100% without break..note that your phone should switch off conditon while charging to 100%..

No, the battery is ok.

What do you mean by normal zip? As I said, I flashed stock back, no more rooted kernel, but it's still draining battery, shouldn't it have gone back to normal with stock? Should I root again with this normal zip to be able to solve the problem?

Maybe your battery is "gone" (I mean cannot charge anymore). If you can try your phone with another battery borrowed from a friend or buy a new one cheap to be sure the problem is the battery and not the phone. The last option for me is to buy a new original battery a give a try. If you have a method to test the battery out of the phone is best. Good luck

hey, try this app called nova battery tester. It will tell you a lot about your battery's condition.
You can find it on the play store.
Also check whether your phone is entering deep sleep.

I tried that, the friend's battery on my phone had the same behaviour, and my battery on friend's phone worked fine... so it can't be the battery
Why the hell it won't just work normal if I flashed stock back?

Have you checked your CPU behavior ? Which states it is in, etc
Use CPU spy to find out

Best thing... Send it back to samsung !!! Either you get a repair or a replacement ! ( Provided you are under warranty for the service to be free... )

1. Un-root then root again using the normal method which just adds SU.
2. Try charging for 2-3 hours. Sometimes it displays 100% though the battery level might be as low as 15%
3. Do you do over-night charging/ charge for very long durations/ play lots of games during charging? In that case your battery is over-charged. Check it. It should be puffed up a bit. If this is the case then, sorry mate, but you'll just have to get a new battery. And don't ignore this problem. Trust me, as bad as it is, it's all downhill from here.

JUst unroot the phone and send it to service centre !
All will be done ! and your warranty will be there if u have it still

[Q] Battery Issue

My phone reboots all of a sudden on it's own and then it "sometimes" shows the battery is 12% directly from 46%
Do you guys think I should try to flash it with a ROM and check?
I have the official latest firmware on it, not rooted.
I posted a battery dump in a thread and it was concluded that phone is going in deep sleep but, the battery consumption is quite high.
What should I do?

That's probably problem with batterystats file
try download any app from the Play store that reset the battery stats (but that requires root access)
Also, check ur running applications, make sure MediaScanner service is not running because it is quite a battery drainer.. also take a look at your running applications, see what u really need running in the background

Phone started restarting lately, so did a factory reset.
Do you think it could be the battery that is faulty?

If the battery is 10 month old or more its likely its time to replace it. I have the same problems as do a lot of others.
