[Q] question about the 2yr contract - Motorola Droid Bionic

Just bricked my phone
So I was wondering, instead of buying one from verizon, can I buy any phone from amazon or ebay and insert the 4g sim card I have from my bricked phone?
Also, does the phone that I will purchase have to be unlocked? or can I buy any verizon phone from a different market.(because its relatively cheaper).
thanks.

if you have insurance it was "stolen", hundred bucks, no questions asked

you can buy any phone from anywhere and use it as long as it is for verizons network

kaiser & att data plans

hey all i have a friend thats interested in getting a kaiser. he said he went into the att store the other day and they said he would have to get a pda data plan to purchase the phone. he said he did not want it and they told him it was a requirement and that they could not sell him the phone without it.
currently he has a razr phone and been using the mediamax bundle with the 200 messages. i told him to try and buy it from somewhere other than att and swap out the sim card. so basically what we would like to know is, can he purchase a tilt, from another purchaser like an online store or ebay, and just swap the sim card? if not can he use the phone without any data plan at all? or would he hear from att? thanks
I got mine from ebay, brand new and sealed, unlocked. Popped my Sim in and it works like a charm.
If he does buy it from elsewhere, just make sure it is UNLOCKED, otherwise you'll have to spend some money unlocking it. And I've never been a fan of unlocking phones, my dads done it twice and they both screwed up after a while...
Got my tilt from the at&t website and was able to keep the 19.99 unlimited media plan the store told me this was the way to do it

Looking To Buy a G1, for AT&T Like provider

I'm looking to buy a G1, for AT&T like provider.
So, i need to use a SIM card that is not TMobile.
Can ANY G1 be unlocked?
Is unlocking same as rooting, or is more like unlocking/jailbreaking on the iPhone?
VERY sorry for the newbines.
As far as i have read, unlocking has to be done by Tmobile only, is that so?
And as i have thought, has nothing to do with rooting.
you can buy unlock codes all over the interwebs and ebay.
They need your IME number and your money. Then they will provide you with the code to enter when you put in a non T-mobile sim card.
What would be a fair price for that? Is it legal? Any recommended places?
ebay has them for about $10.
It is legal as far as I know, T-Mobile will just give it to you for free if you have been with them long enough.
Yes, i was just seeing them for about 10 on ebay.
Thanks.
However, why would you buy G1 for at&t and be stuck on edge network when you can buy Rogers Dream and actually be able to use 3G?
LoL, I'll give you my G1 >_>..

Is it possible to buy an HD7 in USA without being sim locked to a carrier and contract?
I planning to buy it when I came there, but need this info, please.

In the USA, the only place that sells the HD7 is T-Mobile and it is SIM locked to T-Mobile.
You can though, but it full price without a contract from T-Mobile, and that'll net you around $500.
600.00 and if you buy it off contract I'm pretty sure t-mobile will give you the unlock code but I might be wrong and you might have to use a 3rd party site.

Thanks, even if it costs $600, it will be cheaper in almost $200. If I can, I'll buy it.
Thanks again.
Jota
You can actually buy it on Amazon for $500, no tax or shipping fees, if you are in the US.

Click the Phone Only option, and there you go.
If you are coming to Toronto I'll sell you mine! I love the phone but I have to live on Edge since T-Mobile and FIDO are different Bands. I cannot get 3G with Fido network with the T-Mobile phone. Willing to sell the phone and then wait for WP7 and HTC HD7 that I can get 3G service with. It's unlocked so should work with any carrier. Just make sure you can get highest speed data back in your home land. PM me if you are heading this way.
So what's the procedure for unlocking the unsubsidised phone? Is it unlocked right out the box or would I have to call T-mobile?
I bought one through tmobile. I called them and 24 hours later they sent me the unlock code. via email. They told me it may take 8 days to get it but I got it the next day

Do you have an account with them / a contract?

[Q] AT&T Activation Question

Hey folks. Just ordered my Midnight Blue Nexus 6 from AT&T and had a quick question about activation for phones purchased directly from the carrier. Ideally, I wanted to buy a Cloud White Nexus 6 on contract, but since AT&T is only stocking the blue I figured I could buy it and either trade it or sell it on somewhere like Swappa and use that money to buy an unlocked Cloud White. But I haven't bought a phone outside my Nexus 5 in a few years which I just swapped in my iPhone's old SIM card, so I don't know how activation works.
Do these phones purchased from a carrier come pre-activated? Do you need to put in and register your phone number when you activate? Do you take it to a store usually? Basically, I'm concerned about if I need to open the box to take out the SIM or if I can leave it completely sealed and just resell it like that.
So how does AT&T usually do it?
Typically, when you buy a phone from any carrier (online or in-store), the SIM will either come pre-activated (if it's a new line), or will come with instructions to call a number and activate it (if you're replacing an existing phone). Either way, it's not a big deal, because you can always walk in to the store, pick up a new SIM, and transfer your account to that one. That will free up the SIM that came with the phone to be used by your buyer.
However, if you're extra paranoid, you can always open up the box and take out the SIM. The buyer can easily just walk into their carrier's store and pick one up (or, if they have a nano-sim already, just swap it over).

How to use Verizon upgrade on Nexus 6?

I'm on a family More Everything plan with shared data on Verizon and I finally became eligible for an upgrade. I'd like to know how I could use the upgrade to get a N6. What I've heard is that some people are upgrading to an iPhone 6+ and then selling it, then buying a N6 at full price. But I don't understand the details of that. Wouldn't the iPhone be activated/used at that point? How would I sell it at a new phone price? Also, I heard that Verizon charges a fee if the new phone isn't activated within a certain period after purchase. Would that be a problem if I bought the iPhone first (and didn't activate/open it), resold it, then waited for a N6 to become available to buy?

There is no problem buying a phone on contract, activating it, then giving it to someone else or selling it. The buyer takes a risk that you cancel your contract and skip out on the Etf, in which case Verizon will blacklist the phone. But they will not prevent you from selling the phone or someone else activating it. The buyer simply brings the phone to Verizon to obtain a SIM card.
So if I went into my VZW account online and ordered an iPhone 6+ with my upgrade, would it arrive in a retail box unactivated or does VZW activate it for you with the SIM installed?

It arrives unactivated with a SIM tied to your account. If your intent is to sell, then I would activate it, then switch back to your old phone. You could just sell it unactivated, but your account might get stuck with a pending activation..which might eventually fall off.
Will my old sim remain activated after I activate the new one? I'm upgrading from a DNA which uses a micro sim. If it takes a while to sell the iPhone I'd like to keep using my old phone. I've never sold a phone before.

It will not. Just go to a Verizon store and they will switch you back for free. Might be able to call and do it.
Hm, so would it make more sense in that case to buy the N6 first (whenever it becomes available), then use my upgrade to get an iPhone and resell it? That way I could immediately activate the sim in the N6 and not even touch the iPhone. Or does the sim have to first be activated with the iPhone because that's what VZW is expecting to see on the account?
