If you are seeing the activation animation and it's been on for a while, I've had luck in the past just pulling battery out and rebooting and wholla!, it's activated. Even had to do that at the Verizon store with the rep when I replaced a SIM Card. Even he was surprised it worked.

Ive tried everything....any help would be great...activated it yesterday and thought things were good until i tried to call or text
Try calling cust service and ask them to acrivate the SIM. Same issue hapoened to me with T-mo. Got LTE, but no calls/texts until i activated it with a rep
I was on the.phone with them for hours...when I went to sprint store they didn't have any sims and the.rep said that people were having problems with sims from bestbuy..I didn't see why it would be a difference so I went to best buy haha...activated everything online and thought I was good
When.I checked online it said sim card was good...think sim is only for data on sprint

I am having the same issue. Over 6 hours so far with Sprint and no fix. I purchased this N6 from Sprint not Moto btw.
Same issue.... any solution?!?! This is driving me crazy.
So i have a brand new sim from tmo and a sprint nexus 6. To the best of my knowledge this is supposed to work by just popping in the new card and rebooting. Phone says no service. Tmo says the account and card are good.
Any way to manually program this to work?

Thats what Im doing now. Thank you though.
I wonder if ill be able to hot swap the two sims after this...
Okay, maybe a dumb question. But when I booted up the phone after a system reset it had 3 ATT apps on it. I am with ATT and did have my SIM card in. There also isn't any carrier branding on the back of the phone. So what is a surefire way to know that this is an "unlocked" phone and not an ATT phone?
Also the phone isn't updating to 5.1
If ATT lock their sim phones, a surefire way to check if it is locked is put a sim from another network in it.
Sim and sim lock and even carrier have nothing to do with updates. It takes 3 weeks for most people to get the ota
If you go thru the initial setup process with an AT&T sim already installed, it will install the AT&T apps. Just for the hell of it, take a look at the bottom of the back of the phone. I have watched many videos on how to remove the AT&T logo, but every single one I watched, always left a little outline of the logo. Sure it will eventually wear off completely in time, but look for that little logo. If you see nothing at all, that's a good sign, as I have yet to see a Nexus 6 sold by AT&T, come unbranded. Yeah that's not a definitive way to check if its actually an unlocked phone, but its a good start

I noticed the same thing. So to get rid of the AT&T logo on the back, I replaced the back. Cost was $10 for new back, and it only took about 10 minutes.
My point is caveat emptor.
If it has been carrier unlocked, it doesn't matter how it started life.
All Nexus (devices) N6 are unlocked by default. Carrier "bloat" is dependant on which SIM is inserted.

This isn't true with the nexus 6. Some carrier versions are locked. I just don't remember which.

I know the AT&T version is Sim locked, not sure about Verizon's model. Sprint and T-Mobile's are unlocked.

Only sure way to know if it was an AT&T phone originally is via the IMEI number. AT&T's start with "359". Unlocked variety start with "99".
And, if it has been carrier unlocked, it doesn't matter how it started life.

That's not true I bought mine from Motorola directly and I have the first 3 digits as 359.

Hey guys, I bought a second hand AT&T Moto X 2014 off ebay about a week ago with a clean IMEI. I unlocked the phone by buying a code online, but since then have not been able to get a stable signal. I purchased a new TMobile nano card, and had it activated. I'll get cell service for about 3 minutes, and can make calls, send a text... then the phone will get no service whatsoever for the rest of the day. I'll get surprise pockets of service for several minutes once or twice a day.
I spent some time with the TMobile technicians, who have registered the IMEI, have done a master restore (not sure what that meant) sent several signal downloads to the sim, and ultimately said the issue is with the phone. I also tried my wifes ATT sim card and rebooted, still resulting in no service on ATT either. The Moto X is running 5.02. I've tried messing with the APN settings in various formats that I've seen online. My new sim works with my Nexus 5 perfectly.
I contacted the ebay seller, who is willing to refund 50% of the purchase due to unlocking the phone online. Do I pretty much have a bricked phone? I can't seem to find a solution and have gone back to using my nexus 5 with a shattered screen.
Thanks for the help.
Try changing the network from gsm/LTE (default) to wcdma preferred. I found the phone to pick up better signal when I change it to wcdma. Download the app secret phone info from the playstore. I also have the at&t variant and I unlocked it buying an online code and it works flawlessly with my carrier

Thanks so much!!
After having tried reflashing to stock, fastbooting just the radio, doing numerous factory resets, downloading the app you suggesting and switching the networks gets me reliable cell coverage! Now I just have to work on figuring out how to get data coverage.
Thanks again!
How is the world did you know to do this? This happened to me after I unlocked my AT&T XT1097. Once unlocked with T-Mobile SIM, the phone no longer shows any service with either AT&T or T-Mobile. Very frustrating, was ready to send the phone back and luckily decided to Google and of course, this is exactly what the issue was. THANK YOU, THANK, THANK YOU.
Why is this even an issue with this phone? Makes no sense. You truly saved the day.
Getting the unlock code
Can you guys please tell me where you got the unlock codes from? There are a bunch of sites online, and I don't know which one to purchase it from.
Thanks

Try eBay.
I'm currently using a At&t branded S5 on cricket. I've tried to update with no luck and after reading here noticed I'm not even on the latest firmware. My S5 is running 4.4.2 and not 4.4.4. Am I able to receive the update? Can I force it in anyway? What are my options as far as getting the update?

Yes I'm checking while connected to Wi-Fi. It's funny because all my other phones I got updates while on Straight Talk but I have received none while with Cricket. Only been on Cricket about 2 months now

I actually tried that last night and no luck, even searched for a old Att sim I had laying around and couldn't find it. Has to be something with the phone or service because even if lollipop wasn't released and my device serial number wasn't in the roll out so far the 4.4.4 update should've been available.

Was it a working sim, and did u configure the apn, save, and reboot the phone?
I have the byop 4G LTE straight talk sim for at&t, not sure if that really matters or not...

No the Sim wasn't active and no I didn't configure the APN. I should've tried that. I have the same byop 4g att Sim. I think I'm going to try and take it to best buy and see if they can force the update for me.
