Not to be an arse about it, but it's obvious that you did no research on this question before posting. A search of the forums would have shown you the thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=244441&highlight=CDMA+Harrier+wm5
You might get more results if you at least look first. If you have looked, you didn't state it and your post sounded like you couldn't be arsed enough to look.
Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm trying to make a point that many people seem to have problems grasping.
I've searched the forums many times, and I would still post the question from time to time if others didn't just to be sure someone didn't just discover something.
I personally would like to know if there is a Harrier CDMA upgrade to WM5 or WM6 that forgoes the the radio, or if someone has tried to use the radio "drivers" out of a 6700 (Apache) to any degree of sucess. In my research, I've seen the idea floated, but I'm not sure how deeply the situation has been probed.
I do appreciate the work Helmi and others do, and I simply want to know if there is any update on this front.
Guys, does a harrier get completely bricked if it is upgraded to WM6 or does it just lose its radio/phone functionality? The reason I ask is I am a Kaiser user but I have my old Verizon Harrier that I'd like to make use of its gorgeous 3.5" display for movies while in the car (very safe, I know).
I'm on ATT now, so no more Verizon. I'd be using this device strictly for its PDA functionality.
I realize I can just use TCPMP on the wm2003 OS as is, but i figured there were some chefs that had done some pretty sweet roms for the device. Heck, I don't even need WM6, I'll just take the best Rom, regardless of which winmo version.
I know in the kaiser forums, duttythroy is pretty much the heavyweight chef. Is there a similar heavyweight rom or chef that everyone tends to lean towards on the harrier/BA? I spent about 15 mins doing some searches and reading Wikis but honestly couldn't find any info on harrier cooked roms.
It is now possible that Harrier could be hacked.
Unfortunately, the HTC CDMA hacking community has moved on. The HTC encryption on the ROM wasn't broken until after Harrier was long discontinued.
And, with new devices sporting gpsOne and EV-DO Rev A, there are now clear technical advantages to modern devices.
Ideally, HTC would have done the right thing and kept supporting older models. But, you already know that...
I don't care about the radio on the Harrier
As the previous poster mentions...Can I slap a Blue Angel ROM on my Harrier if I don't care about the radio? It would be a great 2nd device if I could get WM5 or WM6 on it. Again...I don't need (nor want) the CDMA radio on it to work.
Thanks.
no sir, tried myself, almost bricked phone DO NOT DO IT.
Hey fellas, im glad i found this site, looks like alot of good info for a beginner. This will be my first phone that i will be attempting to tweak, but i had a few basic questions that warranted some advice:
if this was your first high end phone (only had a treo 650/680 prior) would you try and load a different rom and all the fixings, or just deal with a hard reset on the AT&T rom and try and fix what you could with cab files.
does a new cooked rom void any warrenty? or could it be reversed if i chose to distribute this phone to one of my employees when i upgraded in the future.
what was the first thing yall did to your tilt when you got it to instantly make it a better device?
thanks in advance guys.

I will make a couple of suggestions. Read A LOT before asking questons and make use of the search funtion. The other is if your new to Windows Mobile, many users that have been drinking the Palm koolaid have a hard time migrating to WM. Be patient, they are two very different OS's.
To flash a non at&t rom will require unlocking, that alone will void a warranty.
i thought i read somewhere else that AT&T were condoning the unlocking of these phones, since they sold the unlocked versions at a different price, but that could have been hear/see.
Well my first PDA was a
Compaq Aero 2150
I then went onto the smart phone market (years later lol) with
Siemens SX66 (HTC Blue Angel)
iPaq 6515a
iPaq 6945
and now
HTC Kaiser / AT&T Tilt
Flashing a NON AT&T ROM does not require unlocking the phone. You can flash whatever ROM you want (provided it's for the Kaiser). I'd make sure that you install Olipro SPL though. Prevents bricking the phone.
well if i want to flash to a different ROM, like the HTC one, is there a way i can revert back to the original at&t ROM if i had to send it back for any reason? i just dont want to have to eat the cost of this thing, it'd be my company doing the eating. which my budget wouldnt enjoy.
oh wait i think i read what you said wrong, what i have on it now IS a AT&T ROM, so it WOULD have to be unlocked first...right?
by the way i absolutely hate this theme, i like the big clock on the HTC ROM. i finally getting used to WM6 though. just hate the look of it.
There is one important thing I want you all to understand when voting on that post. I've already written it there but I'm not sure if people are actually reading the post before voting...
The Herald and the Wing are the SAME device with different keyboards.
If you divide the forums a few issues will arise.
1. Cooks like me, who make ROMs and release both Herald and Wing versions will have to double post.
2. Cooks will not notice new innovations that were created by one person or another unless they read BOTH forums.
3. People will start to only visit one forum and they might miss reading something that may give them ideas. Ideas lead to innovation. It's the same device, so whatever benefits one, benefits us all.
I'll be releasing my EasyBakeOven... Originally it was a Wing kitchen only... if it wasn't for the fact that the Herald forum was one and the same, I would have never thought of making it Herald compatible... Things like this WILL happen.
The reason why I never got confused about the Herald/Wing issue was because I had had a Wizard before and I knew that the title of the forum would be under HTC's code name and I knew that the keyboard might not quite match from one device to another (as Tmobile LOOOOVES adding "tzone" buttons to their devices.)
I say we rename the forum to herald/wing or at least make a sticky saying "THIS IS THE WING FORUM" and telling people about the keyboard difference and instead of dividing the forums, pulling together all our resources and build newer innovations for the Herald device.
it shouldn´t be a new forum. jsut a subforum like "G4" for wizard. they also ahve to read both forums. BUT important things belonging to one device Herald OR wing can be found easier....
and as the wish of 75% of the users IS to create a wing SUBforum....
BUT "flar" didn´t answer till now..
That's why I made this post, to educate those people that might have thought it through. They're thinking they're two completely different devices or don't realize that it will slow down the cooking progress.

???? slow down cooking process ????
why? it only kills some ONLY wing-related threads to another subforum....
of course the devices ARE the same.
BUT wizard is also one device BUT G4 has some spezialities.... and therefor another subforum...

second that
I still say just rename this forum to include wing in the title or in the description and call it a day.

That's going to kill things like my kitchen and my ROM and ttran's rom into another forum altogether. If I had never kept up with the Herald side of things, I would not have adapted them to work on herald devices.
I never liked the G4 separation, either. But most G3 roms were full fledge ROMs that required CID unlocked devices. G4 roms have different SPL's and other things and couldn't be CID unlocked without paying for it. In their case, their ROMs were a lot less compatible.

what is the problem to cook a rom for wing - post it there and mention that it can also been used for herald.
but with the known for noobs that it was firstly cooked for wing!! based on a wing rom !
of course you can use the roms on both deices
BUT some are based on wing roms and some on herald....
that´s all.
if this would kill your roms. sad.
but for noobs better to understand why they have issus with a wingrom on herald and a heraldrom on wing...
for me i stop discussing because at least it is the admin dicision...
I must say that ivanmmj's opinion makes absolutely sense to me. I had the same thoughts.
The Herald/Wing community is already so small that a further separation will shrink the overall effectiveness.
Unlike the differences between a G4/G3 version of other HTC devices the Wing and Herald only differ in the hardware keyboard and simply the casing.
Since Duprade made the effort to overcome this barrier we shouldn't create a new one a devide the Herald and Wing users.
We are already a small group.
My Understanding is that you can Not use a Wing ROM on the Herald as you can Not use a Herald ROM on the Wing. Keyboard and other issues. So you have to separate them anyway.
Am I Wrong?

The ROMs we have here are based out of ports of other ROMs, too. The only real problem with using the wrong ROM is the keyboard. Unfortunately, it's the new users unwillingness to read that causes the problems that they get. I'm just worried because, like zcink mentioned, we're small enough as it is.
I'm not saying that I will stop cooking, but that I might have not have done it from the begining if it had been a divided forum from the begining.
It IS the Admin's choice, but unless he/she is given a good choice to choose from, he/she will just go with what they see first that people might want. I know that if I were the admin of a site THIS large, I wouldn't have the time to read every post regarding every issue.
Either way, I just want to make sure that people who choose, choose after knowing the full picture.

You are wrong
The main difference was the keyboard mismatch which has been solved
KEYBOARD FIX for WING / HERALD & ROM hardware keyboard (keybddr.dll) mismatch
That was pretty much the only difference that was a problem.
I think separating them is ridiculous. I agree 100% with IVAN, Simplicity05, and GAMBIT. I definitely say let's add the name to the forum, and we'll make a sticky for n00bs and that can include all the info they need to know...
but the herald/wing is a SMALL community so segregating it will just make it worse in my honest opinion.
So now instead of dealing with people posting stuff in the wrong herald subforum as we stand now .... we're going to have to start dealing with:
"this post should go into the Wing forum"
"this post should go into the herald forum"
"this post should go into the Wing forum"
"this post should go into the herald forum"
"this post should go into the Wing forum"
"this post should go into the herald forum"
"this post should go into the Wing forum"
"this post should go into the herald forum"
"this post should go into the Wing forum"
"this post should go into the herald forum"
Personally, I've been installing Herald roms on my wing since day 1, using the aserg method, but now with the hardSPL we really shouldn't have any issues going forward. I think a Wing forum just leaves things to be missed. If you only check the wing one, you might miss out on a great rom (Kudos to itje!!!)

I came here to post my thoughts , I definitely agree on renaming the forum, a sub forum would definitely be confusing to many people and cause double posting. I will go vote now.
yea i changed my vote from new sub form to my suggestion of renaming the forms we have now, and making up a comrehencive post, which i did and got my frist sticky here at xda.
i think between the rename and the post i put together. and the help of all the great minds on this form with helping me add all the good data we can find - we will make it that much easier for us and noobs like myself to navigate
OK. Let´s stay a big family and rename it.
I´ll report "flar"... the admin.

I've been having major issues with my phone since I installed a TNT Series Rom.
My rom version is 11.0.0.1 WWE
Radio Version 2.25.11 (i just put this on to try to fix the issues)
I wouldnt mind going back to WM5 because WM6 seems to be soooooo slow, i'm aiming for stability because my phone's pretty near useless since it never rings when I get calls and It doesn't even notify me of voicemails.
I can't seem to find any current links for any firmwares to downgrade to either =/
Thanks in advance
You need Radio version 02.19.11. Anything else and you will get lost calls.

hm, damn, didn't know that, is there somewhere on the site that i can download that?
Have you noticed an option called "search" ?? On the top of this screen ??
yes... i have, thanks for that, i was wondering if anyone had a download link already in a thread they knew of, but thanks.....
Search on this forum is worthless. Try searching for "AT&T" with or without quotes in whole forum, get zero results.
I found this topic by Googling and I keep hitting deadends with jerks like you telling people to SEARCH instead of actually providing useful information. This topic is on the first page for what I'm looking for. I want the same thing - a stable, usable ROM for an HTC Wizard on Cingular (now AT&T). I've had nothing but headaches trying to upgrade this Wizard for a friend. It's been a nightmare with a flood of poorly designed and unsupported abandonware ROMS with bugs enough to make it darn near unusable, and biased tutorials that end me up with a T-Mobile Pocket PC instead of a Cingular PPC, with no information about how to make it appear to be a Cingular PPC again.
I've given up on WM6 on this Wizard and now I'm just looking for a working Windows Mobile 5 ROM again. Chances are, I'll have that figured out by tonight, but I'll still have this topic on watch so I can be notified when someone with half a functioning brain decides to reply. Damn this is frustrating.

unfortunately i have found THIS EXACT same results, except they were responses to other people's questions and i haven't flashed.. yet. i was preparing to, in about one cigarette's amount of time, until i found your post just now. very disappointing. i'm affraid of going to wm6 or 6.1 now.. for fear of the dropped calls some other guy in this post was complaining of, and the slowness you speak of. very unfortunate. i've spent 7 hours struggling with poor search capabilities to attempt to determine the best rom and any issues i might have. i was about to pull the trigger and you RUINED IT FOR ME. hahaha. so let me know how your event goes tryin to get back to wm5, in case i need to do the same

Here's a link to the original Cingular WM5 ROM. I asked a similar question a few days ago, and was graciously provided the link.
WRT fixing your problem, did you try downgrading to the Button ROM, and then reupgrading to WM5? Might make things easier for you.

I know this is quite an old post....but I thought I'd respond to his frustration, because I myself was in your same position around the time you posted this. I have a Cingular 8125 and when I bought it, it had the official T-Mobile ROM Windows Mobile 5. My first PDA. I came to xda by chance and read all the cool stuff. I became aware of what is called "Flashing." I must have read the tuturial a dozen times, and "flashed" it nearly 2 dozen times lol (or what I thought was flashing hahahaha) The only thing I noticed was a splash screen change. lmao. But after trial and error I finally flashed it! yea! hahaha. I then learned about the other stuff like ISPL or whatever hahaha and radio stuff. So to make my point... I never asked for any help! I just searched, and read, searched, and read, trial & error, trial & error. So instead of demanding answers, go ahead and read through the forums, I know you don't always get what you search for, but read some more! I can guarantee your question has been answered, and you might learn a few new things!
Good Luck!
Hi All,
My wife got my an XDA 11i it has an upgrade to wm 6.1, it works fine however the wifi doesnt work and it is a little slow, basically i would like to get back the original os version windows 2003 so my questions are as follows.
1. can i downgrade to the original oS
2. Where can i get the rom from
3. Or is there a standalone wireless driver.
Thanks in advance
Mark
Then Mark you have something a lot of people (not me) would give their eye teeth for a XDA IIi with more than 2003SE are you absolutely positive that you have????
But I would have thought that a download of the last "Real" ROM from O2's Irish site (loads of links around here if you search) would have sorted it back to 2003SE
Its definitely 6.1 but without wireless its useless to me as i need to use it on the move wirelessly, what are the irish url's
I needs these roms asap and you could spend weeks on this site serching the forum and ive just started a business and i require the xda on the go.
i just want a xda11i original rom so i can make sure the wireless isnt a hardware issue them i may upgrade again once i know it works.
Thanks Mark
Given all the information above i would say this is actually an XDA II, aka Himalaya, that would account for both the WM6.1 and the absence of WiFi. easy way to check is go to
Start - Settings - Device Information and select the Identity tab, report back which Model it is. i am not a gambling person but even money says it is PH10B, this makes it a Himalaya.
As for the advice re ROMs and Ireland site, search www.O2.ie for ROMs for both Himalaya and Alpine, XDA II and IIi respectively. Make sure you get the right ROM as you run the risk of wrecking it completely.
Hi Deedee,
It looks like it is an XDA 11, so it looks like there aint no wireless.
So it is now the xda 2003 rom i need.
Thanks
It's Xmas, I am in a good mood so here's the link, just pick the right ROM.
O2 ireland XDA ROM
Took two clicks and one search, go to O2.ie, search for "XDA ROM" and pick the fourth option.
Personally i'd stay with WM6.1, the Himalaya I have for mucking about with is WM6, never felt the need to return to WM2003. Is there a technical reason for downgrading? You are going to fond so much that won't work it's probably not worth the effort, apart from the experience. Also you may not get the Extended ROM back even following the downgrade.
