Hello all,
Has anyone run into a crackling sound from the speaker when exiting the camera app or when listening to music? I am hearing these recently.
Thanks,
Steve
Every so often a notification or music will come out garbled but it always goes away next time or if I pause and restart the music
Beamed by invisible waves from my rooted xt860
The sound after closing the camera I believe is just the shutter. The crackle seems to happen when the audio hasn't been used in a while. There might be some sort of power saving feature and when the audio kicks in it can crackle. The same happens to my netbook.
I'm on my second d3. The first one had crackling when using speakerphone, listening to music, watching youtube, etc... I took it back and got a replacement, the second one works fine.

I got my One today and went to show my wife the awesome sound, put on a youtube video and it crackles. Sound all the way up, beats on, crackles and pops. Very noticeable. Play a song not on you tube and the crackles are still there but softer. Anyone else have this problem? Hardware problem? Do I send it back?

There was a very minor crackle on max volume on the unit I tested but only when parts were playing with extremely deep bass. If this is happening all the time it could be a bad connection and I was ask for an exchange. This should go without saying but you were playing a 1080p clip on youtube for the best audio quality?

Thanks, I called sprint this morning and they are sending a new phone, pretty painless process. I got to pick black as it is in stock now instead of silver.
I had unlocked it already so I will have to lock it and hope they dont say anything.

Glad I sent it back and got a new one. Night and day difference with the speakers. I also got black instead of the silver. I like the black a ton better as well.
nice that sprint sent a replacement without hassle.
did your crackle happen with beats audio off? i've been reading the crackle is software related? if not, i'd like to exchange mine as well.
Im having the same issue with my One. But it is only on the YouTube App.

Mine did it with beats off and on. It is most noticeable on the youtube app, or going to you tube through a browser. But if you listen close enough and play a song that is on your phone youll hear the crackle also. Sprint accepted it back with no hassle. I am so glad I returned it cause that would have bothered me for the life of the phone. Just call sprint and exchange it.
This only happens to me occasionally while using the YouTube app. The crackles are usually few and far apart and typically stop if you leave the screen alone and just let it play. My theory is that it's due to some kind of issue with the streaming or compression. To test this, I downloaded a 1080p .mov movie trailer to my phone and played it using MX Player. Watching the exact same trailer on YouTube, I heard the occasional crackle, but didn't hear a thing while playing the .mov file.
I noticed occasional crackle while using the you tube app. Seems to occur more while tapping the screen to bring up on screen controls during a video. Downloaded media doesn't seem to be an issue. Prob just a software issue hopefully it's fixed with an update.
Are you guys getting this problem with Pandora or mp3s played in the music player? Is it a crackle or more a stuttering/crackle?
Just a note guys, it's unlikely that it's a broken speaker, because if it was, you'd KNOW. It'd crackle a LOT, loudly, and you'd have a hard time even understanding voice.
It's probably a software issue with the amplification being just a touch too high.

beats sound effects do not work well on low quality sound, turning it off will get rid of the hissing/crackling sound.
I also hear crackling noices but only within the YouTube app,Pandora sounds perfect...I haven't tried playing music from the memory since I don't have any at the moment. Anyone wonder what it could be?
Edit....I've noticed that if I turn off hd ,the cracking goes away immediately... Maybe it has to do with buffering while in hd?
Bump...any updates on this?
Hey guys,
I've been using an HTC One for two weeks now, and was really looking forward to using it as a music-listening device. However, whenever I'm listening to music on a low volume setting through headphones I can hear a hissing sound that gets louder and softer as the music changes. Since then, I have tested this with another HTC One, various headphones, and have come to the conclusion that something inside the phone is causing noise. As soon as I open up the 'Music' app or any application that turns on the headphone jack, I can hear the hissing. It's very noticeable when listening to music at night in the lower volume settings. The same files I'm listening to have no noise on my blackberry or on my iPod.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
I can only suggest you exchange for another unit. Yup... I saw that you said you had tried another One.
I came from Nexus 4. My first Nexus 4 had a defective earpiece and the same hissing noise you described from the headphone jack. Did a RMA with Google, and the second Nexus 4 had a perfect earpiece but still some hissing noise from the headphone jack. I didn't want to bother with the RMA process again so I just lived with it.
Then I got my HTC One. Sound quality is miles better than the Nexus 4 and I hear no hissing noise from the headphone jack.
While the chance is slim, it is possible to get defective unit twice in a row. The hissing noise is probably due to in proper shielding or poor wiring inside the phone.

Hi,
Try turning off beats audio and see if it still happens.

I would agree with gustav30. I have noticed this recently, but it only happens when I am toggling the beats audio on and off. I think it might have something to do with the different audio qualities depending on what type of thing you are doing i.e. streaming music, listening to downloaded music, watching YouTube, etc..
Its beats audio. Turn it off and the hissing decreases. You will always have some hissing though no matter what phone and headphones you have.
Beats lowers this hiss, but its still there.
This hiss exists for all android devices I've used and heard when using high sensitivity IEMs.
Considering going back to apple... *sigh*
Has anyone here experienced prominent crackling sound listening to music at full volume when using HTC headphones supplied with the phone ?
I tried using the same headphones on One X but no crackling sound or even on the computer.
It does dis for all the songs I play at full volume on HTC ONE. (it does reduce the crackling noise if I turn off the beats audio).
So wut do u think cud be the problem ?
The headphones, the phones hardware or the beats audio.
I am having an issue with bluetooth when I switch from one app using bluetooth to another. Basically, when I am either listening to music or podcasts and then take a call the bluetooth drops out for about 2-3 seconds and the phone goes into speaker mode. This doesn't necessarily happen when going from the music or podcast app to the phone call, but after the phone call, the bluetooth drops out and I can hear the music or podcast playing on the phone's speaker for about 2-3 seconds before my headphones pick up the signal again.
I don't believe it is the headphones since I have used them extensively with 2 other smart phones with no issues.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
TheStig405
Anyone else with this issue?
This problem has been reported on the Samsung Galaxy Note, S II, Droid DNA and others, but I didn't know it was also a problem on the HTC First until I got mine. Whenever my music goes to a low volume with my headphones on, the sound just mutes. It comes back when the music goes louder. If I increase my volume, it cuts off less. At full volume, it does not cut out at all. I have no problems playing through the speakers.
One needs to listen to audio with short silences to be able to notice it. Some say it is related to Beats Audio, with the problem going away if Beats Audio is turned off; I don't think that is a possibility on the HTC First, though.
I use my phone mostly to listen to music and streaming radio, so this is a deal breaker for me. Are any of you experiencing the same problem?
i can not confirm the problem.
i tested my HTC with BOSE and Pioneer headphones and do not have any problems with both.
no matter if i play music loud or very low volume.
will test it tomorrow with my monster beats and let u know.
HTC Support on Sound Cut-Off Issue
For the sake of completeness, I will let you know that I called HTC Support about this sound cut-off issue. The person on the phone was very nice and tried to help me for some 40 minutes.
The bottom line is that he couldn't reproduce the issue in the few songs he played (which didn't surprise me). He made some note for the developers but I don't think anything will come out of it.
In the meantime, I found a good song to test this strange behavior: "brainstew" by Green Day. Plug your headphones to your HTC First and listen to the first 30 seconds at low volume. It you hear distortion as the sound volume changes, please let me know (right now it seems that I'm the only one noticing this).
Thanks!
I'm seeing this as well. Has nobody else seen this?

Having issues with sound. Ringtones , notifications and alarms work but no media output or in app sounds. Eg. YouTube, play music or even touchpad sounds. Any ideas on how to resolve???
Bump I'm having the same issue. No videos or music plays from my speaker. I can't even hear the person on the other line but my alarm goes off and it's audible. Anybody know what might be wrong? I've flashed different ROMs, I tried to power cycle, and even did a reason dance.
Any help would be great!

Mine was because I was running Viper4Android on the M preview. Deactivated it and all my sound came back.
