screenshot - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
There's several ways of taking a screenshot on the SGNote. including the "hand swipe" over the screen thing. I can't get that one to work. Is there something you have to enable? or am I just doing it wrong? I have looked at videos on youtube but it won't work :-(
Any ideas?
Regards,
/Mellon

You have to touch the screen while sliding over it. Then it will work
I do it from right to left only using the side of my hand

Works fine for me.
do you have small hands?

I am wonderimg if anyone has tried using one of those capacitive screen stylus pens.
It would be greay if we could draw on this thing.

That would be nice and use it on one of the drawing/painting apps in the market.

Just bought a Targus stylus today. It works well for misc. scribbles, but if you want to do serious note taking it doesn't work very well. Parts of letters are blanked out, almost like a pencil skipping across paper. I have tried several different notepad applications, all with roughly the same results. The pen and the NC screen might have a 50-50 split on blame. I've also found that the pen works better if held at close to a 90deg angle to the screen - which isn't very natural/comfortable for writing.
All of that being said, will I take the stylus back? Probably not, it works great for keyboard input and selecting buttons/aps/etc....
If you run across a great note taking app, let me know.
I am currently working on the same goal, I'd like to take notes in class with mine. I ordered a BoxWave Stylus and a Dagi stylus. The boxwave works ok, but it requires more pressure than what's comfortable, and you can't tell where it's going to write which ends in very crappy looking letters and numbers. The Dagi sounds promising, but I haven't received it yet. I'll post up results.

Seems like a good enough app.. Don't have a stylus, I just use my finger. Although it's not great, needs some zoom adjustments.

[NEW POSSIBLE ISSUE] Screen Flex

DO NOT complicate this with the screen separation issue, my device does not have this issue.
When on a black screen when pressing the devices screen, it does not have to be hard just medium, the screen will flex causing the display below to ripple. It reminds me of the HTC One X screen flex issue at the top ends of the device where it was curved.
I have made a video showing my findings, I know at times it looks like I'm pressing extremely hard on the screen, I'm not its just because I was on a soft surface and so the device pushed into the bed.
Oh and your probably better watching it in full screen, just watched it embedded on here myself and it's hard to see
It's a TOUCH screen not a PRESS screen. Be gentle... you meanie!
I saw what you meant once in that video, but it did look like you pressed pretty hard. I tried to replicate it to no avail. Sorry.

I know I know, honestly though I promise you I was not pressing hard. Honest truth I noticed this issue because I held the device with one hand, and I was NOT pushing hard.
I've noticed this minor issue on mine, but on the left hand side of the screen. Doesn't bother me too much.
It probably happens because your device has the screen lift too? or the screws are loose.
As before I did the washer trick my screen also did this on the left side only, it was spongy too, once I did the washer trick it didn't do it again. :good:

Yeah I don't really see it as an issue, as long as my device works that's all I'm bothered about and I mainly use my iPad anyway.

Hmm, well the screen doesn't appear to be raised ANYWHERE and I only just got it yesterday (14th August).
My second/current one does this. But only on the left side. If you press on the black bezel around the screen on the bottom third. You'll get the ripple. Nowhere else though. And you have to press it pretty hard. It's not an issue.
No screen lift on this one. Screen lift was replaced by this ripple. That's actually how I noticed it, checking my new one for seperation, and spongy feel. Which it doesn't have.
Isn't this just a trait of LCD screens?
My One X has the same thing and has a Super LCD screen.

LCD is the screen itself, it is a trait however the bezel and glass should stop this from happening, because obviously if this happens a lot, then device is going to be damaged

Yeah. If you see ripples, you are applying excessive pressure to the screen. This is standard for any LCD, not an issue.

Well said. Not an issue.
Yeah, I'm saying that because my old laptops did the same thing when you touched the screen. Not a issue...
Phones have Glass over the screen. You don't actually touch the LCD. You have the LCD, then the digitizer, then the glass. So I think this is because the LCD is too close to the digitizer because of the screw issue. I had screen separation issues on the left side and this ripple. I made some "washers" using some medication foil packaging (3x) and not only did it fix the screen issue, but the screws are nice and tight (fixes squeaks) and pulls the screen down away from the digitizer so you don't get this effect.
Mine USED to do this (mostly on the left side) but now it doesn't after I put in those "washers". The bottom left is more sensitive still but requires lots of pressure still. If you press hard enough on the screen the LCD will still ripple.
RMA and chill.
I'm sorry but these threads are getting tiring now.

Mine is mainly on the left side as well, its actually quire hard to recreate it on the right, though its possible. I'd just like to assure readers that I am not using excessive force on the screen at all, not even close. As I said, I can recreate this just by holding the tablet with one hand!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
wow, this has to be the biggest non issue for the nexus. it's a LCD if you press that hard of course the screen will ripple. yes the top is glass, but the nexus 7 screen uses a new process with less layers of glass to minimize thickness.
Do you have a laptop or lcd monitor? Press on the screen and see what happens.
OP you are pushing way too hard to simulate normal usage. The screen is covered in thin glass not bullet proof glass and if you push to hard it will flex and distort the black light and cause ripples.
Seriously this is a non issue.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yeh I got ripples if pushing to hard but had the common sense to understand this is not a fault its LDC my old omnia phone does it.

there's also an issue if you throw your nexus 7 down some stairs it won't work
HAVE ANYONE FOUND A FIX!?!?!?!

Screen Stripes while screen off

The other day I was sitting in front of my computer with my One beside me. I checked my phone, turned the screen off and tried to put it away.
In the putting away process, the lighted computer monitor was reflected on my One's screen (which was off and black then), and I noticed horizon stripes on the One's screen.
I put some pictures below to help you guys understand how I got it, though the stripes are not that easy to be caught with my iPad. But you should be able to identify the stripes if you check out the silver part of the reflection.
(Damn, the pictures are upside down)
It is more like a manufacturing process rather than an issue, and the stripes are totally invisible when I use the phone, they are even barely visible under sun lights while the screen is off, however, pretty easy to notice in front of my LCD monitor though.
Again, it is totally no issue for me (and for anybody else I think, because I do not seem to find a thread about this on XDA or Google). I love my One, it is gorgeous and a piece of art. :victory:
I create this thread just to see if anybody else had ever noticed these stripes, or if I am the only "lucky" guy.
FYI, mine is US 32G unlocked model

It's the digitiser, I'm not sure what's bad about it.
There's nothing bad about it. It's normal. On the Xperia Z it is a Grid of dots that are easily visible in light even while the screen is on. Neither phone is broken, and you can't see it on the One unless you really look close on an extremely silly angle.

Well there's at least 3 of these threads actually lol. And yes it's the digitizer. Every phone will have this to some degree but they don't all have the same pattern. Maybe you'll hate me after I tell you this but you can see them very faintly when the screen is on with a pure white background That's what the other threads were about. Not a big deal at all though (you and most didn't even notice them did you? )

Touch sensitivity

When my phone is laying flat on a table the touch sensitivity is very poor, at least around the edges. I can't pull down the notification bar and the nav bar is near unresponsive. It almost feels like it's some sort of feature to prevent accidental touches, if you know what I mean. Has anyone else experienced this? There is no issue when holding it normally in my hand.

I just tried it...yeah, it happens on mine as well. I guess it has to do with the curved back no biggie. I normally lay it down on my wallet with Skip inside. So I have never even noticed this
Yeah, not really much of a concern for me either. Just curious if others had experienced it or if anyone knew why it happened. Interesting idea with the skip/wallet setup.

Good to know it's not just mine. Did you have a screen protector on when you tried this?

Yes, actually. I have the thick shock protection sold on the Motorola site. I have been meaning to test it without but have been waiting to get a new protector to replace it however. I really don't like this protector and hope the touch sensitivity gets better once it's gone. I have just been lazy in looking for a new one.
I cannot detect any loss in sensitivity when my phone is laying on my desk. I am not using a screen protector at all.

No problems pulling down the notification bar? Also can you try installing the following app and drawing lines from the center of the screen all the way up to the top of the screen? Does the line go all the way up or does it end slightly before the edge of the touchscreen?

Thanks.
Yep noticed this as well. Mainly on the home button. Back and recents seem responsive enough, but if it's laying on my desk or floor, home is almost non-existent. Gets to be pretty frustrating.

No problem with the notification bar at all. I tried it all along the top, it works perfect every time, fast or slow movement makes no difference.
Might try the app later but I just gave it another good test and it performed perfectly, even if I barely touch the screen.
Yeah... Mine is fine too. No screen protector.

It happens every once and a while. I got a otterbox self healing screen protector
Just tried it on mine with no screen protector and I am getting the same as the OP.
It's funny because usually I sit it flat while I am on the couch - must be the soft surface and the curved back which means it works fine, but you're right on the hard table surface it's noticeable.

Video Die/Burn out?

So, been having the issue where the touchscreen doesn't respond.. fnally did the recovery and put t back to stock and didnt root.. let it run and do its nstalls and then DL'd subway surfers again.played it for maybe 10-15min max and it started doing t agan.. i went ot home screen and back to game and the chararters and items were black and then it had a hard time rsponding like it was sluggish and not reacting.
is it possible the video card or whatever may be "burned" ut or somthn.. nto sure what else to do.. any ideas? and would i call att or who to try and fix/swap out if u think its video?

Yes.. i thought it might be the game too, but sometimes ill just be swiping through the homescreens, app drawer, and othe rthings. it just doesn't respond.
right now i am testing something. I had/have the S-view flip case on it.. so i took that off and put the stock backing back on it. ive been playing it for a bit and so far nothing.. but.. the phone is also cold as F right now so not sure if its just that the phone hasn't heated up to possibly trip it or if thew s-view case really could be the culprit...
does this sound possible? i am most likely stopping by BB today since still within my 45days and going to possibly try and swap it out, and i think i might stay away from the s-view case.. never really used that screen anyway and the bumper protection is non existent.. haven't dropped the phone and there is already a slight nick on the side just from being in pocket.
I use an Otterbox case myself so i am not sure how an s-view fits. I have found in the past with some case if they have a lip that extends over the edge of the display it can sometimes cause false touches if it is touching the digitizer area on the display. If it touches in more than one spot this could confuse the display in that it does not know if you are tapping, swiping, or pinching.

Definitely root first with RDLV. Once you take the OTA you run the risk of the bootloader being patched and can potentially screw yourself out of a chance of getting a real recovery in the future.

Ive noticed that some games just genuinely do NOT like the 1920x1080 resolution and the buttons have very small sections that actually work. A few games require me to use the s-pen to actually tap the buttons to go through menus. thought my digitizer was having issues until i found out almost everything else works perfectly in those same spots.
