My Droid3 xt860 was turned off for about 3 weeks, now wen i turned it on, and started typing, the 'L' key is NOT responding. The 'Enter' key also takes a while to respond. The phone did not fall or have any physical damages. What could be the cause, and more importantly, a solution?? I have not rooted... yet.
anyone else having this problem. Please help!
Thanks guys.
Does it work if you press a tad harder? Mine's P is acting up sometimes. My Droid 2 Global developed similar thing with the dot.
If hard press doesn't work, try data wipe, if this doesn't help, bring it in for warranty work (if thats an option of course) - since you're not rooted, you should have no problems having it fixed/replaced by Motorola

Im glad to see im not the only one with this problem, it seems to be a common issue.
My b/n/space keys dont work so well. My last qwerty slider never seemed to have an issue with keys not working.
It still does not work if i press the key harder. I've tried.. mainly out of frustration sighh. Recently, the keyboard on a whole becomes unresponsive and i need to restart the phone for it to work. I hopeeee its a software problem. this phone is way to expensive to be giving this problem so quickly. ive only had it 2months.
I will try getting help from motorola. Problem is I live in Trinidad and Tobago, so getting help from the US may be a problem.
IF any updates, or solutions, please post.
Thanks!
If restart fixes it temporarily, I would try to do factory reset if I were you.
Sent from my XT860 using Tapatalk
Yup. Did factory reset ystdy. 'L' key still not working.
The phone never fell, or had any physical damage incurred. Could it be the electrical strip that connects the keyboard to the processor is probably faulty?
Do you think an update may help fix? or prob rooting and installing Ice cream sandwich, since when i try to update, it says my device is up to date.
Current system version: 5.1.544.XT860.BellMobility.en.CA

Try this.

Though you will need root to access /system/
Thank you.
I am currently trying to see if I can get assistance from motorola, either a repair, or a replacement (hopefully). So I would like to see where this goes, before I root it. Would you recommend this? or should I jus try rooting and trying what you just sent?

Hi all... just curious if anyone has had this problem or has any advice for me:
Today out of nowhere my TyTN II starts acting really funky. When I push the "power" button on the right hand side, it lights up the phone, pulls up the phone application and some letters begin appearing one-at-a-time where the currently dialing number usually shows up (E, D, F, and then C if it makes any difference). It will also light up and do this intermittently when the phone is not being used. The notes recorder app also came up and began recording until I unmapped that application from the 6th button in the settings. In addition, all of the slide out keyboard buttons and the soft-keys themselves (save for the middle button) are completely non-responsive. Using the stylus on-screen works fine. So far a soft reset and a hard reset (always wonderful away from home) hasn't alleviated the issue.
I've contacted HTC support, and they gave me the warranty repair number (of course this crap always happens on a weekend). It sure sounds like a hardware failure to me, but I just thought I'd throw it out to the geeks on here...
I'll buy it for 100 dollars. email me: [email protected]
or you could try doing a master reset on the phone or flashing it with a rom..
hopefully you have hard spl on your phone
huh? huh? and huh?
Oh and if anyone out there who isn't inclined to be a jerk, could you give me some insight into what to expect from HTC service and repair? Do you agree that this is a hardware issue and most likely not a corrupted ROM?
Its not master reset its hard reset. What he is saying is to reset everything and it should work. Look at the Wiki for help. We aren't gonna spoon feed you answers that are searchable, but if they aren't specifically answered in some source then we will help which is 50% of the time.

I said to do it again then read the wiki if it doesn't work. 2nd time should be the charm.
If not use a different rom .
This happened to my up button I forgot to mention, it was the radio for me that was the problem so try a different radio also.
Did you find the answer?
Hello Mate,
I've got the very same issue, thought it may have been a virus at first, but after loading up a new rom the problem still exists, I'm reckoning the phone is less than useless now
i had this type of problem for quite some amount of time & that too randomly. then i found that a key lock feature in pocketmusic was interfering and causing it. similarly, i feel any other apps that may use/ be used to remap keys may cause this issue.
ofc, since u have done a hard reset, this may not really apply to u. but then which rom & radio are u using anyways?
Hey... just an update. I sent the device back to HTC in Houston with an RMA. Communication with the repair center was fairly poor. I had no idea the phone was on it's way back to me until it showed up at my door today. No information in the box, but I wasn't charged for any repair and everything works as normal at this time. The device went through the "first time" setup when powered on. Still no idea what caused the problem or what exactly they did. R:...12.32, D:1.56.0 (same as before I'm pretty sure).
axeman: Never had pocketmusic on this (AFAIK), but if it was due to some other software re-mapping the keys, wouldn't it sort itself out with a hard reset? I could be wrong. This seems more like a hardware failure to me.
devil's advocate: Try contacting the HTC repair center in your country. They gave me an RMA without any trouble and their turnaround was quick (although I would have appreciated some notification that it was fixed and back on it's way). I got my TyTN II within a few weeks of it coming out, so I'd assume yours is under warranty still as well. I wouldn't chalk it up as worthless quite yet, even (dare I say) still worth more than $100. (Suck my balls, gqstatus0685 )
Hey
I am currently running 2.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S the only thing ive done to it is root it, so its running the normal firmware and I'm waiting till the end of september ti get the official 2.2 before I look at flashing something custom onto it, anyway...
I have an odd problem with the phone where the touchscreen part of the phone will become unresponsive for no real reason, sometimes playing a game, sometimes just sending a text or browsing the market. My actuall hard buttons like the homescreen or volume control still work during this and the only way to make my phone un-freeze is to press my power button once to turn the screen blank, then press it again and slide to unlock the phone, then it works fine.
No clue how to fix this... anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance..
Sounds like hardware issue. Get it fixed
Thanks for the response (know it was a while ago)
I've had the phone 2 months now in a contract with T-Mobile UK through Carphone Warehouse... Does anyone know what my return rights are? Talking to them later just want to know where I stand when asking for a replacement.
Thanks

hello, i have same issue. Did you fix this problem?
Thanks
This comes really long after. But did anyone find out the reason for this?
I've got an Galaxy S that works fine most of the time. But from time to time the screen will become unresponsive. If I press power button to lock the screen and unlock it again, it goes away. So it seems that it is a software problem.
Another peculiarity is that the keys on the Samsung keyboard are very inaccurate to respond to touch from time to time. Sometimes it is just impossible to hit a letter in the mid row and pressing "s" can put "wz" on the screen.
I was thinking to just put CM on it anyway. But it will void the guarantee in case it is a hardware problem. So I want to make sure that it is software related.
Did anyone manage to fix this either by returning the phone or removing TouchWiz. I am not living in the same country as I bought the phone. So returning it for a checkup will take some effort.
For what ever it is worth
I took the phone to an unofficial service center that flashed the phone with a brand new Android 2.3.3 (the phone came with 2.3.5). A downgrade, which normally isn't a very good deal. But the dead areas on the screen are gone. The phone is much more responsive and the keyboard is not acting funny anymore.
So... if you are experiencing the same. Try getting rid of the TouchWiz before you start taking the phone apart.
Good luck!
I get it occasionally but I've grown to live with it, mine tends to be the kernel recently flashed devils for 4.0.3 but after fiddling with volts mine stops.

Could anyone pass me the apk for the Incredible S Touch Input? My soft keyboard gives me problems when I'm on portrait mode. The P, 0 in the keyboard and backspace key in the phone dialer stopped working a while ago.
I don't think it's a hardware problem as the P + 0 keys are located differently from the backspace.
Hoping reinstalling the apk would help
This happens sometimes... just lock and unlock again... it should work...

install this htc keyboard mod. works better than the stock one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
However the keyboard is located in /system/app and you can ask anyone using sense rom to pull that out using titanium backup.
try a keyboard mod first.
Thanks guys, it its starting to look like a bigger problem than I initially thought. Downloaded a paint app, tested if I could paint the whole screen. Realised it stopped about 1/5 before the end of the screen on the right side. Did the same test on my wifes incredible s and realised it went all the way. Strange because it does sense my touch on other apps.
Was really hoping I wouldnt have to do a warranty claim, because of having to s on and all, but looks like I don't have much of a choice. But if you guys having any ideas do let me know

I would advise smart keyboard pro from the market, its not free, but has a trial, and its amazing
Or try swiftkeyX, the best keyboard (imho)
thanks guys, but realised its not a keyboard problem. Just restored a backup of my origional rom and realised its got the same problem. Gotta go for a s-on and warranty claim now.
Actually strange after i restored, it informed me there was a system update which i downloaded and installed, waiting to see what its all about
keyboard mod. did u try it?
Thanks deeroll, but I think the fact that 1/5 of my screen dosen't respond to a drawing tool indicates it's probably a bigger problem than the keyboard file.
I restored my phones original rom last night, was hoping the problem would go away, but still there. So chances are it could be a hardware problem.
Thank God I was able to find the original receipt and warranty card.
Just need to S-On my phone again and then I can go ahead and make it HTC's problem.
But thanks to everyone for all the help
Just wanted to give an update on my problem. I went through the s on process successfully and reverted to the original Rom that came with the phone and was s on. Noticed the problem was still there so I thought I was sure to need a warranty claim.
The phone prompted me for a software update, which I allowed. Next thing you know it works fine.
Just wondering if anyone has any idea how this fixed it? Wondering what the system update would have had that all the other roms I flashed didn't.

Hi, sure no problem. Within this general forum itself you will find 2 threads on how to s on. They are quite detailed
if you have. Specific problem from their instructions let me know and I'll help the best I am able, not really a pro when it comes to android stuff, just follow the instructions I find online
I notice that this happens quite often where after typing a certain number of words these 3 keys become unresponsive and does not work sometimes i need a long hard press to get it to work rather than just touch. Other keys are just fine.
It's [p] [backspace arrow] and [enter]
Im using the swype keyboard. Is it a swype issue? I have not managed to test it without the swype but my phone has been like this ever since I bought it. I am a heavy user and no1 i know who uses the note has this issue.
Is anyone able to clarify? Is it a screen problem cause i'll go claim my warranty since the service centre is right round the corner if this is the case.
Feedback much appreciated. Thanks
Could this be a screen hardware defect in my unit?

Nope.. If you are in old firmware update to LA4. there was some touch sensitive issues in old Firmwares. but those are fixed in LA4 or LA6.
Thanks but mine isnt rooted. im on Gingerbread 2.3.6. baseband version N7000DXKL2
Are there any known issues with this stock version? I did a full screen test *#0*# and no problems with every category.
Another issue i notice is my SMS's keep getting resent upon reboot and i've uninstalled SMS Popup not sure if it has been fixed will continue to monitor. As far as i have read via google search: there's no fix for this?

There were few bugs are their in old ROMs so Samsung pushing all new LA4 & LA6 ROM to all regions. wait for it. and more over ICS coming to Note very soon. i guess all problems ll be solved.
The original mytouch 4g has the same issue unless you run stock software. Happened to me on 3 different phones, drove me nuts.

Ah alright, that's much appreciated as it;s frustrating to make a typo and not be able to backspace to fix the spelling error lolz ~.~
Check your hand-set with the screen test.Dial *#0*# from dial pad. A screen will appear. select touch test and test your phone's screen. Do it when you are holding it in your hand and when your hand-set is kept on a hard surface. If there is sensitivity issue in any of the test get your handset replaced or change the kernel version to get rid of the issue.

Hey all,
for those of you who are experiencing irresponsive back/home buttons you could try this below:
go to settings -> language&keyboard ->HTC sense input -> advanced -> calibration tool
When you're calibrating the keyboard, press the keys very lightly, after you're done you should have a better back/home key response.
At least it worked for me hope this helps!!!
Just calibrated it, see how it goes during the day and report back .
i guess it has to do with stock setting were meant for you to press it normally(harder/more precise?) to be responsive, so if you calibrate it to be responsive to light touches, pressing the keys as you would normally would make it better.
but then again its just my own thoughts, hope it helps
I didn't realise it registered the firmess of touch? Just thought it was on/off input?
Aah excellent ill try this
I wonder if this has any effect on the sensitivity while having a screen protector.
had a go should be able to tell after a days use
If anyone can test this with the Spigen Glas.T that would be great. Thank you.
Doesn't work im afraid . Its definitely a software issue though, hence you can lock and unlock and the buttons work again. Confident it will be fixed in the next update.

so this problem with capacitive home/back buttons is REALLY pissing me off.
went to sprint store, asked to see their display unit, told them the problem i had. guy said "I NOTICED THAT TOO". used their demo unit, EXACT same problem. Talked to some people on IRC who also noticed it.
*really* hope its software-fixable because I love the phone otherwise
It worked for me. Seems either way it's a software issue.

Will test it a bit more but it seems like it worked for me.
Thanks TC!
I've used adb shell # getevents to see that FREQUENTLY tehre is just no event generated when pressing the home and back buttons. It *is* a hardware problem. I've never been so annoyed, displeased, or disappoined with a phone. I'll be returning it. Even tho the model I saw in the store had the exact same problem. If my next one has same problem I'll give the ol F**K YOU to HTC and not look back.
Also, havent found a way to get software keys on it...which MAY be an acceptable alternative to broken hardware buttons

What OTA is that specifically? And did it specifically say it fixed that? This is clearly a widespread problem.
