EDIT: i saw the READ FIRST post after i applyed in here, sorry.
More then 100 views and nobody can answer?
Just got an 8.9 2 weekends ago. Thought the 10" were to big and the 7" to small.
1- what is the battery life on moderate use?
~~ Battery has been great so far. The 9 hrs they estimate is very accurate.
2- the screen is better like on 10.1?
~~ Screen is great, same resolution as the 10.1 but on a smaller screen which makes it look even better.
3- it have gorilla glass?
~~ I believe this is a yes.
4- tablet itself, it feel cheap?
~~ It feels solid to me, and nice and light for reading.
5- how is the camera?
~~ So-So. I have an 8MP on my phone and the picture quality on that is much better. Pictures have been kind of grainy. I have not taken a lot and they have all been in low light, just thought I would mention that.
6- the playback is that bad i heard?
~~ I have had no playback issues.
7- all accesoriess from 10.1 working on 8.9
I think most are.. I have a case and bought and additional charge/cable.
8- HD gameloft games are working?
~~ Yes, I have played Asphalt 5 with no issues.
9- speakers are fine or very good?
~~ They are fine...it's very thing so don't expect to much.
10 - it is working to buy the 8.9 or better the 10.1?
~~ We think so! We like this size for a e-reader and everything else. Games, Netflix, etc.

1- what is the battery life on moderate use?
I'm getting near 8 hours full functions on (bluetooth on, wifi on,) max brightness. I sync data back and forth between my PC and tablet.
4- tablet itself, it feel cheap?
Only the back panel. I'm not too impressed with it, but Its not bad at all. Im just really really picky.
5- how is the camera?
Acceptable. Not great in low light. Good in bright light.
6- the playback is that bad i heard?
Depends what you are throwing it at. I have thrown some 1080p encodes at it and it had no issues. And then I have thrown some 720p encodes and found issues. What im saying is mostly, it depends on how complex the scenes get. The problem is lag. The video will slow down and the audio will continue at normal pace. This only has happened to me on complex scenes such as the opening of Clannad (anime.) Use "Mobo player" app for best compatibility. https://market.android.com/details?...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jbG92NHIuYW5kcm9pZC5uaWwiXQ..
9- speakers are fine or very good?
Good for such a device. I'm impressed.
10 - it is working to buy the 8.9 or better the 10.1?
In my case, yes. I could not see my self carrying a 10" tablet around. Too bulky and calls too much attention. I read manga, and watch anime. My ideal size is a paperback book. The 8.9 is just about that plus a little more. Great for videos, great for manga, great for browsing online. I'm very pleased with it.
Additional notes:
Get the 32GB version if you can. This thing does NOT have a MicroSDHC slot to expand from 16 to 32gb. So do your self a favor and get the larger sized storage.

Yes, as an ebook reader NC is heavy right ? I feel it has too much weight and when I am reading my starts paining unless I mount it somewhere. Also I am not able to read in bed.
I was thinking to get a case, so that i might feel less weight since I can hold it with two hands. What do you guys say ?
Whats your suggestions on it ? OR you never feel it is heavy ?
Why can't you hold the NC w/o the case with two hands?
Reading on bed? yes, it's kind of. NT is lighter.
Compared to reading on my iPad (heavy) or Viewsonic G-Tablet (really heavy) I don't think the Nook Color is heavy at all. I can read on it for hours while holding it without my hand cramping like it used to when I used my 10 inch devices for reading.
A good case can help, but a lot just add bulk or add edges.I don't find it heavy at all, but the NOOK Touch is noticeably a bit lighter. I don't think you'll find a color reader that's much lighter.
If this is a real problem, you might be happier with a NOOK Simple Touch.
it's lighter and thinner than the kindle fire too...
out of my 3 e-book readers that i have had (ebookwise.com ereader, velocity micro cruz reader, and my NC) the nook is the lighter one...and as far as i can tell from checking out other e-readers in stores the NC is one of the lightest ones.
*shrug* just my opinion
Yes its too heavy for my likes.. But the good performance and price / value make it worthwhile.
After all you get the nc for a mere 130$ while stuff like the Aurora cost you about 170$.
Gesendet von meinem Kühlschrank mit Tapatalk
I find the NookColor to be quite heavy compared to eink readers, but it is certainly not too heavy.
I really don't compare the weight of the nook color to other e-readers, that's not what it's replacing. As an e-reader it's replacing those big heaver hardbound books. As a tablet, it's kind of replacing my 7lb notebook.... It also replaces the 6 monster bookshelves in the other room. Try comparing it to an average textbook, and no that tiny paperback lit/poetry text is not average. Try chemistry/biology text that weigh more than my notebook computer.....
It's all subjective, what do you want? Battery life, cpu, memory, screen, os, lower weight, cost... Personally, I think it has a good weight for the specs, and after using the nook color, i could never go back to e-ink, not as it is now. I would love a 5 gram indestructable tablet with 25Ghz processor & 20 gb video with 3year battery, but it doesn't exist yet and certainly not in my price range.

Agreed, FloydF. I sell quite a few signed first editions, mail then to buyers: general weights before packing for last half dozen ran from 1.7 to 3.1 lbs. My NC is considerably lighter, even with case. Of course, I still do most of my e-reading on my old and much loved Nook e-inker, that is, when I don't have a 'real' book in hand.Sometimes you just gotta take the weight.
It aint heavy its my Nook Color.
So am I the only guy who thinks NC is heavier
My GF recommends P90-x. She says in just a few short weeks youll be throwing that nook around like its nothing! Reading with two hands??? Nah not anymore. Youll be reading with one hand for hours. LOOK MOM ONE HAND!
I have a very large right arm, so I'm good.
I have a dell streak 7 and my husband has an ipad. I would take the NC any day over those two. Not nearly as heavy. I have a case that looks like a book cover and my NC just snaps in. Very easy to take out the NC when I'm reading, etc.

As an ereader, its a bit heavy, but if reading laying down on the couch I prop it up on my leg ~ part of the point of an ereader is if you can't read the text at that distance you can change the size of the text instead of just holding it closer.
As a media tablet, its light, but then I naturally have it propped up when watching streaming video.

You just need to build your arm up a bit for reading... or whatever.

I find it very comfortable. I used to fall asleep reading with the light on... now turn I off the lights set my reading apps to white text on black and if I fall asleep it turns off. I usually prop it up on a pillow and read on my side. I have a Roocase Executive leather case which adds a little bulk but a lot of protection (really like being able to zip it up!)... and lots of variations for positioning on a table. NC and case are about the same weight as a hardcover book.

So with a case, which makes NC like a book cover reduces the weight when holded with two hands like a real book ?
I don't find comfortable holding NC with two hands in Portrait mode.
If you get a case, you should really consider an easel style.
^any link ? perhaps on ebay ?

I look at that and all I can say is "Buy a camera" .
Quality of purpose built camera versus a phone camera is no competition.

Don't get me wrong, the camera on the O2X is pretty good, but put it up against a cheap camera with a zoom len's and it's no competition. I have a £30 5MP camera from about 5 years ago that will totally blow the O2X away for picture quality.
If he wants to give a len's a go I wouldn't want to stop him from trying... I've bought enough junk recently for experiments (GSM/UMTS aerials, Li-ion batteries of all sorts, new phone housing that were such bad quality I had to throw them away, new LED lights, headphones for an old mobile phone lol.).
Anyway.. the battery thing I'm a bit dissappointed, but I'll retry the experiment.. but I learnt a lot from my mistakes.

Hi Scougar, if the other user wants to slap a LENS on his phone, go for it. But good advice is good advice, if the object of the exercise is to take pictures. I take around 10,100 pictures a year. And I must admit that there have been times when I've been glad to have a half decent camera on my O2X.
It's not a patch compared to my el-cheapo Canon IXUS 92.
Sorry to hear your battery project has stumbled a bit. Best of luck to you. I recently bought an extended battery 2400mAh for £13 delivered. It would have been even better if the battery was a 3000mAh wonder boy like the one your building. But I'm very happy with the extended performance. It definitely lasts longer.

Hi Scougar, I am running ICS, if you are so inclined, you can find it HERE.
Regarding the size of the icons. The size is largely dictated by the home launcher you are using. I'm using NOVA Launcher, which is only for ICS I'm afraid. GoLauncher is a good choice for Gingerbread ROM's.

PS. I'm a user interface developer, so there are a lot of custom icons on my home screen.

Hi silentmelodies, the phone is fatter, no doubt. But you get a lot more time to play with your O2X.
I'm six feet tall and weigh 107Kgs. So you could say I'm a big guy. Which means in my big hands, the phone doesn't feel very fat. I suppose if you are a small person it may seem "very fat". iPhone users might say the O2X's screen is too big. Everything is relative.

lol, I'm 75 KG and consider myself overweight! (5'11" though and have small hands).
To be brutally honest, I only find the bigger girth of the phone a "what will other people think of my fat phone" problem. It's actually fine, and is easy to hold I definately prefer the slimmer phone, but then again, on my slim phone I have a massive case to protect it lol.

I gonna buy that watch also (pebble)...money is problem just for you. Not for me.
Sony is not CHIP brand. I do not want to wear a watch which is named "pebble" with black and white display !? WTF is that ? We got Multi-touch color OLED display
-Sony WATCH cost 150 bucks...what do you accept to see inside kid? GOLD ?
I checked all stores...(main web site also) the items out of stock.
No bad feedback's about latest (MN2) generation...why so negative man?
You have it ? NO.
Where you got your experiences from ? From John? hahahah Who cares what inside.... is Sony not pebble...
Were you saw bad feedback's ? (the watch working so smooth and fast)
I bought Smartwatch 3 days ago, i confirm that it works well, without any problem. Don't have any bluetooth disconnection, notifications work "in time", battery is as it should be, fully charged it on day 1, no need to plug in again at the moment.
Need more time to test it and keep my opinion to say if it's really stable and a good product.
Regarding my phone's battery, when i check battery stats, Smartwatch use 4% so i think it's reasonable.
Sony Smartwatch
Just to let others know I have now had this watch a little under a week.....My impression so far is good.....it does exactly what it says it will .......with NO disconnections(unlike its predessecor the live view which always lost the connection and barely worked). All programs work well and the device speed is surpisingly good too(switching between screens and widgets etc). My only complaint is brightness there is no way to set it and in daylight it is hard to read the screen.
I got my sony smartwatch 6 days ago and the last charge was 4 days ago. So no problem with the battery. Yes the screen does come on when i shake it which is pretty convenient i think.
Sony's watch is more of a remote viewer and notifier. It doesnt use its own android system it uses the phones i think so it may not be fair to compare it to other smart watches that have android running on them. It is a lot cheap than others at the moment.
I'm using it with a Xperia S and the bluetooth only uses 3%. If i have all the notification it can do turned on then it only lasts 14 hours. With just text and email its managing 30 hours quite nicely
Hope this helps anyone.
just a quick question sir, how do you set the screen brightness? i've looked everywhere but yet to locate the settings?

Pebble is ridden with deceptive marketing.
For example, "e-paper" display? Please do not confuse with e-ink display.
The "e-paper" display is just regular black and white pixel LCD (not different from those already in use in today's digital watches).
And now let's look at what is inside a pebble shall we?
Micron N25Q032A11ESE40F 32 Mb serial flash
STMicroelectronics STM32F205RE high-performance ARM Cortex-M3 MCU, with a maximum speed of 120 MHz
STMicroelectronics LIS3DH 3-axis accelerometer
144 x 168 pixel black and white LCD
Spring buttons for navigation
Full plastic construction

Compare this with the Smartwatch
- CPU: STM32F205RG (120MHz)
- RAM: 128KB
- Flash: 1MB (For firmware only, apps are stored on the phone, not on the watch like pebble)
- OS: uC/OS-II
- BlueTooth: Yes (3.0)
- Fm Radio: Yes (disabled)
- LCD: 1.3" OLED
- Res: 128 x 128
- Touchscreen: Yes (Capacitive)
- Brushed Aluminium housing
- Battery - 110mAh
Just looking at the cost of components alone (let's ignore the fact that Smartwatch already has hundred of apps while the pebble can only display one notification at a time and has a silly snake game as an app...), Smartwatch is a better choice by far.
The curious part of it is they use the exact same processor.

Benchmarks NEEDED quickly
DETAILED BENCHMARKS
Please makae a video showing the various benchmarks
and also please make a video about Gaming Performance make a video of some really graphic intensive big games PLEASE
any heating issues or lag
1).Test the USB OTG with a pendrive of 16 gb or more as we will require this feature as N4 doesnot have microsd card slot.
2). I have heard that the colours on N4 are dull n luk washed off so please compare it with same content running on both phone.
3).I have also heard that the back is made up of glass and it wont allow any heat to pass thorugh it so please check whether the phone gets hot during benchmark or playing hardcore games for 20-30 mins.
4).how are the camera samples of N4 the colours, noise, low lighting conditions, moving objects, other basic stuff.
5).How long does the phone last on average usage.
6).Tell us how long does it take to charge the phone.
7).One more important thing which other reviewers dont mention also tell us about the call quality and vibration after all its a mobile phone.
8).Also test the sound quality
9).tell us any other problem or lag that you are facing.
it would be really nice if you can make a video or answer theese questions PLEASE BE QUICK
First of all, thanks for the video. Try to plan it out better next time though, so you don't say "ummm" a lot. Still a great video though, and I appreciate the effort
As far as things that I would like to see:
1) Can you please a get a really good close up of the screen/bezel border on the front? I want to know if there's as big of a gap as the Gnex
2) Open up settings, and get a closeup of the background (preferably in a dark room). I wanna know if they fixed that stupid gradient issue in 4.2, and if LCD vs. AMOLED might make it less obvious.
Thanks

It's fantastic, thanks man.
do you have an S3 handy? Wouldn't mind seeing an HONEST opinion about the screen differences between a Samoled screen vs this one.. if not then that's cool too thanks for doing this!
Screen Sensitivity
Hi, appreciate the effort you're putting in friend.
1 thing I can think of now that I'm quite curious about is the screen senstitivity of the phone.
Can you do the following please?:
1. (If you haven't already) Go to Settings > Options > About Phone > Tap 'Build Number' a few times till you turn developer options on.
2. Open developer options and turn on the 'Pointer Location' option.
3. Keep an eye on the 'Prs' value at the top of the screen and make as light a touch as possible around the screen. Record the lowest value you can get.
Can you also try and input text at a rapid pace and see how successful it is?
The reason behind all this is that there have been some reports of very poor screen sensitivity on the phone meaning that higher pressure is needed for the phone to register a touch.
Would it be possible for you to make a comparison to another android phone? Galaxy S'x' or a the Galaxy Nexus (if you own one)?
There's a thread in the Q/A forum where people are discussing this but I'm not able to post links yet. It's quite worrying.
Thanks
THANK YOU, SIR! That second video was great!
Also, you're in the UK? You don't have a British accent.
Edit: People need to thank OP for his efforts!
Does it rattle? and what do you think is causing the rattle ?
Camera options and HDR mode preview on video, also sound quality (loud or not)
Sent from my LT26i
Color Shift
Thanks for the video....
All LCDs have color shift at angles... can we see a quick vid of the phone at some normal then exaggerated angles ?
Thanks :good:
Ok, got a few more videos up in the first post! Enjoy
P.S got to go to work soon be back later today with the battery update!
Your last video isn't showing up still. Says unavailable (still processing). Is Google gonna start failing at video delivery too?
Danny80y, can you spin it on your index finger, please?

Ahaha I kid. I kid.
Actually all we want to know are three things...
1. does it rattle
2. is there a touch sensitivity problem.
3 and does an intensive game get even slightly laggier the longer its played.
If none of these issues exist..we would be VERY VERY HAPPY...Please reply.

Yes, I am in the UK but I'm from Texas so..... no accent....yet. LOL
Hi there.
I have a Galaxy S3 LTE phone but i am looking to replace it. I can't help but hear of and admire the great reviews of the HTC One with a top-notch build quality, excellent camera, speed and smoothness of the OS and the excellent speakers.
But has it improved since the 4.4.2 update? What did it bring?
And.....
1. Camera - excellent low-light photos but a "hit & miss" in daylight with some noticeable noise and not as sharp/detailed with weak colours & contrast. And, how's the camera startup and shutter lag? Are they as quick and speedy as an iPhone or Nexus 5 or an S3?
2. Sound - Speakers can be excellent but are they as good sounding when headphones are connected? I feel Beats Audio is just a gimmicky software "enhancement". Tried it several times in shops and they all sound bland to me compare to Sony Walkman app or Samsung's Soundalive music player enhancements.
3. Battery life - Sure GSMarena can say so & so hours but does it have a battery-saving option (like that of Sony or Samsung) that it enhances and squeezes a bit more juice out of the battery by turning off some settings, etc.? Does the battery drain faster when its on idle (like some phone we know) or heats up when playing games for long?
4. Capacity - As i understand the One doesn't have a microSD card slot. In reality it DOES help a lot in keeping/saving/transferring files. Convince me i'm wrong.
5. Worth getting one? Wait for the new 2014 version? Or is there something much better?
Please advice. Thanks.
1. Camera is not the best, but it does the job. I find the quality to be just fine with the most recent firmware, most of the problems it had before has been ironed out. Only problem however is the camera overheats and causes a purple tint problem, which still seems to plague even recently manufactured ones.
2. Sound is brilliant, and the speakers are great. Personally I don't like Beats so I have it disabled, but music still sounds good. I use headphones most of the time and for a mobile device it's great.
3. There's a power saving mode, it doesn't appear in the app drawer but it's part of settings:

}
4. Internal memory is faster than external memory, so I suppose the main advantage is speed. KK changed the way how apps can access a microSD card anyway so I suppose this makes it a lot easier as well.
5. Wait for the new version. Current rumours strongly point the new HO will be released for sale a few minutes after it's announced. Only a week left!

At this point its nuts to get one at full price. Should be some good deals on used ones, but if you are buying new, wait a few days for the 2014.

I plan to buy a used SIM-free & unlocked phone.
Does the camera come with an optical image stabilization? Any burst mode? Does it have zero shutter lag like the iPhone 5? Does it have the ability to capture a photo whilst recording a video? And does it do full stereo recording?
What alternative music player app can you guys recommend? (I mostly have 320k mp3 & Flac files); in my own personal experience the iPhone have almost perfected the sound of high-fidelity like music. Second only is Sony. Then Samsung.
So, is it still a lot better if the memory is internal and not that of microSD card slot?

Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.
Something to keep in mind. The HTC one with the Nokia HDR mics were ridiculously good in recording audio but the One's without it (after the injunction) are pretty average.

Use poweramp which has a very good EQ where you can set it up to however you like your music to sound like. Also the HTC one has a 2.55V headphone amp which supposedly has improved sound.

I have used Poweramp (paid) app before and i feel it was a hit & miss situation. What i mean is its up to the DAC (audio chip) of the device. So, what you are saying that the headphone port of the HTC One is "amplified" to help improve the sound? When i tried one on a Carphone Warehouse with the stock music player the sound was nowhere near as good as the Galaxy phones or Xperia phones.
And what of the high noise levels and that purple/orange tinge of the camera? Is this true or has it been corrected in the latest firmware?
