I realize this has probably been posted and resolved but I cannot find any solutions yet. So here's the deal:
My fiancee dropped ger G1 into the toilet abot 2 months back or so. I was cleaning and stumbled across it and figured I would check and see if it had dried out okay or not. It is a non rooted black G1 running android 1.6. I tried a coupke of things and figured out I can turn it on now but it goes directly to the bootloader screen. I have ran the DREAIMG.nbh for rc29 and it will update it okay no problems. The issue is that after a soft boot(? Is that the right phrase?) By pushing menu power and call that it boots up...and goes right back into bootloader and tried to run the rc29 update again.
Has anyone else stumbled across this problem and if so how did you solve it? It boots into the factory recovery fine also and will run update.zip files but then once again boots directly to bootloader.
I am trying different things and tweaking here and there because I have a pretty strong feeling this isn't impossible. I'm just overlooking something I'm sure. If this issue has been resolved can someone post the link to the thread or even pm me and give me ideas here. I'm trying to root it since it seems the operating system is shot as is.

the reason it goes into the bootloader is most likely that there is still moisture under the keys .. my friend had the same situation .. the keys were constantly making contact and thus went wherever the keys led .. for instance: a stuck home key would get you into recovery .. a stuck back key gets into bootloader .. it takes quite a lot of effort and patience but if you can completely dry out the insides you should get it functioning again
Also, im pretty sure the G1 goes into the bootloader if there is a hardware failure(like the radio is not responding).
And how the hell did your fiance drop her G1 into the toilet? She better be hot because she sure as hell doesnt seem smart.

Happens to a lot of people...Kind of a rude statement for you to make about his fiance. On another note, OP, did you try burying the G1 in a bowl of rice (uncooked of course) and leaving it for a few days and then trying again. That has never failed me.

+1.... the rice trick usually works as long as you haven't messed around with it too much while it is wet.
make sure you remove the battery, sdcard and sim card so the rice can absorb more water too

Yup, I had a friend that dropped a G1 into a toilet months ago. He took everything apart you can take apart ie battery cover, battery, sim, SD card etc.. and he put it in a bowl of rice for 3 days. It's worked fine ever since..
you could get isopropanol ;D thats pure alcohol, then put the lower side of the g1 into a cup of that and let it dry for ~1 day. if that doesnt work i dont know how to go further ;D
Wrong section.

Double ditto on the rice. Instead of a bowl, though, I recommend a ziplock plastic bag. That way no additional moisture is getting the attention from the rice.
We did this with my wife's old phone, worked like a goddamn charm. I was amazed.
+5 on the rice idea. did that a long time ago with my brothers G1. He jumped into a lake after a discgolf disc. more worried about losing a $20 disc than a $300 phone. (We both pre-ordered the phone and i think thats how much it was.)
To be honest, there really is no point. The fact that its been like 2 months means most of them moisture should be gone. The reason the phone is going into the bootloader is because of a hardware failure. When the phone boots(the G1 screen) it runs hardware diagnostics. If there is a failure(which there is probably due to toilet water corrosion) it will go into the bootloader.
Anyway, forget the g1. She is your fiance ffs. Buy her something nice, like a MT Slide, or a Nexus
Let this be a lesson to all of you that get your phones wet. immediately after they get wet, remove the batteries, and submerge the phone in alcohol. Then put the phone in a ziploc bag with LOTS of silica gel packets. Leave in bag for 2 days.
Another story related on a french G1 forum :
A guy helped his sister to move. Exhausted, he went to the balcony to smoke and take a deep breath. While he was taking his cigarettes out of his pants, he realized he had also hung his G1, which fell from the 4th floor.
Sick of what occured, he went down to get his G1 back. Hopefully and even supernaturally, the screen was intact. Even more, when he tried to turn it on, he saw the G1 screen. It booted normally, and everything was working perfectly !!
Surprising, isn't it ?
That's why the HTC Dream (G1) is Magic (MT3G) !!
Lol I am getting her the mt slide next week lol. And in regards to "she doesn't sound very smart"... My fiancee works in assisted living and doesn't have much downtime. If you really need details(and why would you?) It fell out of her scrub pocket where you'd think it'd be safe at. S*** happens lol no need to say what was said.
My friend who has helped me rescue my phone a couple of times in my early rooting days recommended the rice bowl idea. Furthermore the phone doesn't boot into the G1 screen then to bootloader. Its going straight to bootloader. If its a radio problem is it possible to go thru and rename the current G1 radio to update.zip and flash it in recovery? Then the danger spl(which I have all saved on my pc from my rooting my G1). Thoughts? Ideas?
And thanks for the help guys btw

The rice trick won't help you anymore as there should be no moisture left after all that time. If you can disassemble it, clean it's guts with alcohol to get rid of shorts and it should probably be fine

Hey dude, sorry about the "she doesn't sound very smart." I was just trying to make a joke but I now realize that it was pretty rude. No need to explain. Also, when i said that, I didn't consider the fact that girls need to sit down to pee.
Now if a dude did that, that would be stupid.

If I flash back to stock rom, will they be able to tell that I have flashed other roms?
I'm considering trying to get a replacement due to random shut downs. My work has me on call and sometimes I pick up my phone and I don't know how long it's been off. My employees often text me important stuff from the job. So this is important to me.
So will they be able to tell?

Agreed.
Though I suggest you hold out for another week or two and have them replace it for the Inspire. I'm going to do that soon, and speak to their 'Android specialists' about it.
Two things I don't like about that phone are the size (it's huge) and the lcd screen. I don't think I could go to an lcd after using samoled.
Plus, how would that work. I have a 2 year commitment with this phone, how could I trade for that one. I'm well past my trial period.
did you buy phone insurance? u coulda always just drop the phone and bust the screen.
if not, flash back to stock and the n00bs in the store wont know the difference. however, if you are well past your trial period, att is gonna send you to samsung more than likely. at least that is what they tried to do with me. my first captivate shut down every time i got a text message.
If you're insisting on switching phones, contact warranty and they'll send you another one. After they've sent you two Captivates, you are within your rights to ask for a different make and model. If they don't comply just ask for the Resolutions team, and they'll help you out.
thank you all

Last time i checked they did but eeh if it work for him it works...
So, today I was on my way to work. Had to leave a little early so I could make a pit stop at the gas station and get me a Rockstar and fill the tank up. Filled up the tank, ran inside to get my drink, and was completely pissed off when I came back out.
Someone stole my damn phone! Laying right there on my seat, broad daylight (8am) and they took my damn phone.
After frantically looking around the car and inside the store, I came to the conclusion that yes, someone actually stole my damn phone. A fellow soldier that was parked behind me waiting to get gas, luckily got the license plate number of the car and a very good description of the little punk $#@(^&%$^# that took it.
Called the MPs and we both told them what happened. Their reply was "well if the car drove off base, then we can't really do anything."
My reply was "Ok so I just wasted 45 minutes of time waiting on you guys to get here? I knew I should have called REAL cops."
Let me get to the good part real quick. So I call the local police and tell them what happened and they came right over (5-10 minutes tops). Other soldier gave them a description and the license plate, next thing I know there's smoke and dust from the local police flying out of there to get my phone back. (Very awesome of them.)
Then the other soldier said something that made me want to smack myself until I passed out. "If only you had one of those apps where you could track your phone by the GPS." Way to kick a guy while he's down right?
Then it donned on me...........****ing SEEK DROID! I installed that app and registered online the day after I got my Revo! Here's my train of thought after that:
1. Yes I have that app!
2. Crap no I don't because I rooted and did a factory reset without backing up my apps (like an idiot).
3. Doesn't matter, get online and try to look for it anyway, the GPS was enabled on the phone so I should still be able to track it.
Called my superior and told them what happened, said I had to run home real fast and that I would be a little late. So I get home, throw open my netbook and get online, head to Seek Droids website and POW! There's my phone, traveling down the H3 freeway. Instantly pulled out the cops card that he gave me, called him and led him straight to the little bastards that stole my phone.
Thinking that I am going to get my phone back, I start cheering the cops on. Feeling like James Bond or something, telling them where to turn, how fast they were going, what intersection they were passing. It was getting very intense.
(By the way, I'm on the cops cellphone with him as the chase is happening)
I can hear him say over the phone that "the passenger is rolling down his window." I'm thinking "oh my god these idiots are gonna shoot at the cops?"
Now, what do almost all people do, when they're driving a car (a stolen car at that) that has drugs in it and they're being chased by the police?
You guessed it, they threw my phone out the ****ing window. I don't even get to have the pieces of it because "it might have fingerprints." This is probably one of the worst days of my damn life right? It gets a lot worse with this little bit of info.......I didn't buy the insurance. So please forgive me if I don't seem like I'm in the best of moods right now. I am without my Revo now, didn't buy the insurance, no upgrade available yet, and no money to buy a new phone. Life just ****ing sucks right now.

Actually that was one of my biggest concerns. I was working on the MIUI theme and still needed to update some of the other themes.
I can still finish the themes, problem is I have no phone to test them out. All I need is a tester and the themes will continue. I'm not gonna stop just because I don't have a phone anymore.
Sorry bud... but it was a hell of a story!! I will test for you.. dev on mine is going soooo slow I might just wait for cyanogen if it ever comes. Theme chooser themes seem easier.
Where did you get buttons from? I have tried just changing the color of existing buttons but it looks like ass.

Most of them I just edited the colors from the stock Revolt ROM buttons. Also, you can try to find a MIUI theme and ask the creator if you can use his. Then all you have to do is copy them over. I used paint.NET for most of my image editing and would sometimes just changed the hue/saturation of the image.
****ty dude. Maybe they will catch the guys and make them buy you a new phone haha. Also, I've never had to use the insurance on my phone but I've had it since I got my OG Droid like 2 years or so ago. I would be glad to let you borrow it of need be. It's rooted with some random ROM on it. Wiped clean.

No money, gonna have to wait until the 1st to get a new phone. I talked to Verizon and they said if I fax them a copy of the police report, they will go ahead and let me upgrade as soon as I have the money to get a phone.
This is the very definition of excellent customer service on the part of Big Red. I had no insurance at all, the warranty only covered "unintentional damage" but they are going to let me upgrade anyway. I have already faxed over the police report so now I just have to call them when I have money and give them my case reference number and I'll be good to go!

UPDATE:
Just wanted to say first of all, thank you to everyone who is sympathizing and everyone who has offered to donate money for me to get another Revo.
However, I can't accept your donations. Verizon really screwed me over and is now saying that they can't let me upgrade early because 1- I didn't have insurance on the phone, and 2 - I'm unable to send the stolen (and shattered) phone back to them. I'm extremely pissed off at Verizon right now. I probably won't switch carriers or anything but getting another Revo right now is pretty much out of the picture. The only way I can get one now is through a third party like craigslist.org or swappa.com . I can buy one from Verizon but they want me to pay full retail and there's no way in hell I'm paying $550 for a phone.
Looks like it's back to the drawing board for me, I'm still trying to think of ways I can get a Revo for cheap but it's not looking good. I saw one on craigslist in my area for only $200 so I checked it out, problem with it was that it didn't come with a charger....just the phone. Which can only mean 1 thing, it's probably stolen. No one sells a phone in "like new" condition, without a charger. Still looking though guys, wish me luck!

The only thing I feel like I need right now, is a ride up to Verizon to just start punching people in the face. Can't believe they pulled that crap. I should have known it sounded too good to be true.
They will make them pay for your phone I would go on Verizon website asap to print out scoot of what the phone cost now and if you have to go to court your can show that to the judge and they will have to pay all of it not the 2 year contact price. I know it might be awhile for that to happen but you need to get a copy of what the phone cost so the judge had something to go by..

Just a thought: If it was stolen from your car, is there a possibility you could make a claim against your comprehensive auto insurance? If your deductible is less than $550, you're at least that much closer.
I got a new battery last year in sept or that time around, but its kinda loose. (its 1200mA, Original samsung battery for the Ace)
It's not the exact size though, its a wee bit smaller, and slimmer.A slight tap on the back and my phone switches off.
This happens even if, a slight shake or something.
One day, I was using my phone, I was in the bus, and a bump came up,my hand shook, and the phone switched off.
when I switched it on, all the apps stored in my SD card was gone.
I rebooted twice, still nothing.
So, I downloaded the apps again, and they installed properly.
Then I decided to change my rom since I thought I've used it for a few months, so I switched to "The Ultimatum"
And just last week, the same thing happened, except this time, even when I download the same apps (like FB and whatsapp)
it doesnt install. FB FC's before even opening and Whatsapp FC's after it says it's found message backup.
so I installed friendcaster and FB messenger.

I think your problem is your battery, if the changes aren't saved you can lose your data...it'd corrupt you data partition too, so flash a fresh stock an then flash a custom rom and be careful with the battery
If you're still under warranty, head to the nearest Samsung service. They'll provide you a new battery free of cost. If your warranty is over, you may have to pay. Any case, buy one new battery.

Its a tested process, the old nokia phones usually got their connector pins loose after 2 years of use and people used a folded paper to stuff the casing and make sure the battery stays connected. Sure there was never a problem of heating then but that's why i said to use something heat resistant, i am not suggesting him to blow himself or is phone up over this.
He bought a new battery, that indicates that he is not under warranty anymore, i suggested a way he can make his battery fit inside the case without disconnecting and loosing data free of cost, now you are suggesting him to spend more money on such a trivial thing?
Why waste money, its not spoiling the cosmetic looks of the phone, its fixing a problem, its safe and its free, why are you opposed to something this good?

Everything local works in India But people in the outside world, in U.S.A. for example don't go to try such things, they just get a replacement. But why not give it a try if the phone's sold with a defective hardware and you're still under warranty ? You're bound to get a free replacement.
Talking about money, if this advice was being given to a noob that obviously will work wonders outta it, he/she would definitely end up in a deeper trouble...! I've seen people bury water drenched phones under rice...! So in short, xda's noobs are way more experimental then what you'd suppose. So, always give suggestions that bring a permanent fix to the problem, so that you don't have to keep on replacing the paper wearing under your battery just because it doesn't fit the size like it did yesterday

And i just gave a suggestion, its not about who uses it, a noob does not mean he is an idiot or is retarded and he will use paper alongside a heated battery, that would be really crazy, it only means that he is new at the android development and is not familiar with the technical processes and terms, i didn't suggest rocket science to the guy!!
And its just a suggestion, if it works in India, that does not mean it won't work anywhere else, if he likes it he can follow it otherwise ignore it or use a better option and its not your place to approve or reject someone's suggestion when you are not the OP.
There is no need to carry this topic forward.
Both of you are correct in your respective manners.

I was just trying to say what kinda suggestions you need to give. But you seem to take things way beyond the aspect talking about authority, etc. Anyways, I don't wanna end up in a taunt over a topic that doesn't even concern to me. Have a nice time, let's forget that this even happened, let's be friends

I think your problem is your battery, if the changes aren't saved you can lose your data...it'd corrupt you data partition too, so flash a fresh stock an then flash a custom rom and be careful with the battery

Ha, I didnt think about that
Anyways, thanks!
Hopefully, I'll be able to get a new battery!
I have never before in my life poured water on any of my devices on purpose, so I was kind of nervous doing this, but hey it was fun!
Uhhhh...... Why did you do that. You realize that you just got a lot of water inside your phone via the ear speaker. It is highly possible that something will short out, and corrosion will build up all over inside of the phone, possibly damaging it slowly over time.
Really shocked as I work on WD phones all the time and know they can get bad.
Well done I guess...
Why??
Thanks for the test but I feel you shouldn't have done that...
If it was water proof, IP7 standard, then that is the only way a test like this would even be uselful.
Or logical.
Whhhyyyyyyyyyyyyy??????!!!
Maybe he had a spare and rather than give it to me he decided to do this lol

Just wasted 39 seconds of my life
You got scared because you poured water on your phone on purpose? Really?

Not scared bro, just think its a useless test as it was executed because it doesn`t prove anything

Oke, misunderstood
That was just wrong
You should not have done that.
Think of all the folks waiting for their Nexus 5 especially us in India.
This test would have made sense on the Sony flagships with IPX certifications.
Not on the nexus 5!!!!
Better put your phone in rice.
This might help you.
Dumbest publicity stunt ever.
Android 4.4 isn't waterproof, only iOS7. Everybody knows that......

Cool.
Good to know that it can survive an accident like this.

What the...?
Dude! You've just sentenced your phone to a long and slow death. It may appear to be fine right now but over time that liquid contamination will begin to eat away at the sensitive components of your phone.
If I were you I'd strip that phone and go over it with a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. I've seen what water does to the phones and it's not pretty.
