Hmmm didn't get hit with this one.
GINGERVOLTED!
Ive been having issues over the past few days in St. Louis MO... Kind of disappointing.
Ok so anyone want to take a gander and speculate as to the reasons?
I'll start... Over usage from more than expected speed junkies using mobile torrents on their phones, practically causing the system to get DOS'd. <shrug>

Seriously doubt that it's caused by torrents. Otherwise, companies like Comcast would be down all the time for that exact reason. Plus, mobile torrent apps don't usually allow much speed. Best I was ever able to get when I did 'try' one out, was about 500K/s, whereas my phone is capable of speeds closer to 5MBs/s (40-42Mbps)...
I think it has more to do with system overload and lack of qualified IT Staff to create redundancy within the network. Every time a new major phone comes out, these problems arise. It happened with the iPhone release, and now with the Nexus release. Also, Christmas is a heavy time period for new accounts and phone activations. So, I would put my weight to that more than actual data usage by torrents, etc...

Has there ever been a radio update to change this a little higher on any other phone? Dropping to 3G from LTE is killer.. I usually leave my phone in CDMA only in my home town area but I went to a launched area this passed week where the roll out is in the 90% complete zone and it still drops from 4G to 3G a lot..
Just wondering if a radio update has ever fixed an issue like this on any other devices in the past.

Yup, I think we r over 80% here in austin Texas and it happens to me all day long. My bud just got his T-Mobile One and he hits 20-25 mbps no matter where and when he does a speed test. I could kick myself in the ass for staying with sprint.

I don't think the phone is the problem buddy. I think it's a network issue. So unless u are planning on actually leaving sprint it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I don't think it's a phone issue but my Note II holds LTE like a champ but damn I don't want to lug that thing around anymore after having the One for this long.. dbm levels are the same on the Note it just doesn't drop to 3G until the -130 range where as the One drops it around -117dbm... I'm holding out on a possible radio update before I do anything drastic like going back to the Note II.

It's network and phones that are the issue. First off, it shoildnt be that much of a problem to drop to 3g, as long as the data still works. Buut 3g is worthless usually with no throughput.
Then these HTC phones can't hold on (or wont) to lte for ****, for whatever reason. The iPhone 5, gs3, and 4 all held 4g, and when they dropped it, it quickly moved back up to 4g. This phone, on the other hand, will drop 4g, sit with NO data connection for a while, then connect to worthless 3g while still in a 4g blanketed area.
Then on the LTE topic...I've been waiting and waiting but this crap seems to get slower and slower as time passes. Plenty of times I will get less than 1mbps. Ive been waiting almost 2 years for them to get it together but it seems that it won't be happening. Back to tmobole (<10 mbps always) I go

Well I keep telling myself I need to try a galaxy but the build of the HTC phones keep luring me in. Maybe with this phone being a more popular model because it is across different carriers unlike the Evo line the devs can find away to adjust the settings of the hardware. It is very annoying when my T-Mobile buddy constantly pulls 15-25 mbps on his speed tests and I look at mine and see 3g icon on top. I know there is lte out there we r 80% complete here

Although we'll only ever be indirect beneficiaries of it, I also hope the capital helps them refarm the 800MHz spectrum from their IDEN network-- and of more interest to us, that they're able to repurpose those towers to also broadcast our particular flavor of LTE.
I am on the Verizon network. I hope that Sprint does something cool. Like roll out new LTE and new towers for a broader coverage and some how keep their current price structure and unlimited data plan. This would help to show these other two idiotic greedy companies that profits and good business can truly be done at the same time. Then maybe their pricing structures will be lowered and their data limits be raised. But, I doubt that. These are greedy idiots we are talking about here. And truthfully, I would not put it past Sprint to go in the same direction as the other two companies.

I don't think so. A big part of what's keeping Sprint alive now is the truly unlimited data.
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

Ya, if I recall correctly SoftBank took a failing wireless company overseas and lowered their prices, increased their network capacity and speeds and turned them into the #2 carrier for their region. I think we can expect similar if not identical plans to now but with a far better network.

True, we've had a global economy for centuries, although not quite to its current extent. But one only has to look at history to see the negative effects of profits going away from where they are created. For example, in the 1800's, the US north bought raw materials from the south and made items to sell. Even to this day, the wealth in this country is concentrated in the northeast. Similarly, I think many of the issues Africa and South America have are due to the wealth created from their natural resources being sent overseas or being concentrated into the hands of a few. I'm not saying that Softbank owning Sprint will cause the US to become a slum and I look forward to seeing what will happen, but it is a little sad nonetheless.

I've noticed that yes the one switches between wifi/3g/4g much more smoothly, but also noticing it dropping those signals much more frequently too and struggling to reconnect if it drops it. As in, I can have a data connection, then none at all out of nowhere without moving, and a couple of minutes later it reconnects.
I was even just sitting here at home where I have full signal on wifi and saw it drop wifi too. This never happened on the previous base... Sigh... Nothing is ever perfect...

but it's ok to eat fish cause they don't have feelings.....
I'm dropping calls like crazy lately, but it really started before the update, so I can't say it's because of that.... Sprint really sucks lately, dropping calls left and right, signal dropping out all the time, and slower than slow 3g

Mine got better with the update. I can hold a call for over an hour in my house with 1 bar just like my old phone. before the update it would drop after 5-15 min. Also I am running into far less places where I simply can't use data despite having signal. I think there is still room for improvement.
When I first flashed the update everything seemed to working smoother and seemed to hold a better 4G signal. By the second day my WiFi would drop in and out, my 4G won't hold when I know have full 4G coverage. Sometimes I don't have a signal at all. Like that is my only pet peeve about this phone. What's the use of having the best phone if one of its primary functions doesn't work properly? I'm definitely looking to get something new at this point.

Might have to switch to cdma only to cure this till sprint gets their updates done. Same problem on my lg g2 on towers that are not fully updated.
I am having a similar issue, though not to the extent that you are having it. In areas where my Galaxy S3 would have strong LTE, my M8 has trouble connecting to LTE, occasionally stays on, and then drops to 3G. I often get the issue where I am on 3G or LTE and it drops to having the X over the bars, showing no signal. I bought through Best Buy, so I am thinking about going in to get it replaced (of course all of the Best Buy's around me don't seem to have it in stock...), but if even a replacement phone isn't working, then maybe it's worth it to just admit defeat and get the plastic trash GS5...

This is what I have to do at the house. The LTE signal is not strong enough and the phone switches from LTE to 3G every few minutes. This keeps me from getting calls. I changed the network mode to CDMA only at the house under Mobile data. When I level the house I change it back to LTE/CDMA. Now if I could get Tasker to do this for me I would be set.
This issue was the same with the LG G2. That is the reason I did not keep that phone. The Note 3 did not have this issue. That is the phone I had before moving to the M8.

I happen to live in a very remote area served only by a tower that provides 1xRtt data. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I would get a data connection, slow as it was, but it was at least functional. I thought this may have been my local tower, but when traveling, I've found that I don't get 1x data anywhere. As soon as I get into a 3G or LTE area, the data works fine, so this is very perplexing. The problem seems to exist whether or not I'm roaming. My local tower is actually for Verizon's network, but I had no problem a few weeks ago getting data, and my wife's Sprint iPhone 5 has no trouble with 1x data here, either.
I did a search and didn't find anything like this, so can can anyone provide a suggestion on what to do? As a side note, I don't have problems with data disconnects or voice call drops. This is the only data issue I'm experiencing.
1x data sucks as it is, sprints backhaul is terrible. Backhaul can make our break a carrier, that's why Verizon has faster lte on slower bands. That said you're probably getting crazy fast Verizon 1x at home and regular 1x elsewhere. Sprint's 1x isn't fast enough for speedtest to even find a server and is so slow that many apps time out and think there is no service. Sprints 1x is at best good only for email and mms. I wouldn't try to surf the web or anything else with it
