Hi experts in flashing! Here is my story. About 3-4 days i decided to change my beloved 2.2.1 darky to 2.3.6 (the GalaxyDroid or something like that ). In the guide the dev have wrote that it needs to flash any gb official rom through odin and then flash his rom.So i used the rom he have linked and then it started the mystery. First the process hanged at flashing boot.bin (i think), then i tried again- same thing happen. Then i tried with a different 2.3.5 and hanged again. After this flashes my galaxy was left only with Download mode ( no start up, no recovery). Then i tried to change versions of odin, tried to flash 2.2.1( where it hanged on SetupConnection.. ) and 2.1. Then i left the phone ( battery out), for 1 day and tried again - nothing changed. I tried to preinstal kies, then leave only drivers and uninstal kies. Tried to change PCs- on xp and vista machine( cause my laptop is win7 x64 ). No luck - it didn`t even recognise my phone. So i decided to write down here because i`m out of ideas... I`m sorry for my bad english and thank you for reading my novel and decided to help me
Normal - you have upgraded from 2.2.x to 2.3.x without proper bootloader.
If you'd use SEARCH function with "gingerbread froyo up downgrade guide", you could potentially easily find This guide...
Now - first of all - uninstall KIES, and look for phone drivers without KIES only.
Try this - if youdid not messed phone too much - you still should be able to go to download mode...
Yes i have found that thread, but the problem is i have download mode but everything hangs...
you have two options now (at least - as I can consider):
- jig
-samsung service centre
I think jig doesn`t help me, because i can enter download mode.
hmm...
if I'd be you..
I'd uninstall kies, and install samsung phone drivers.
then, maybe, PC would recognise phone...
or.. another comp.
but -if you messed phone too much - service is your only option.
Or Adam outler's unbrickable mod.

Thanks in advance for any response!
The followings are my phone's symthoms:
1. My phone WAS FANTASTIC until I updated new Darky extreme version 9.2 (upgrade from 9.0)
2. I degraded it to the stock rom with Ryan's OLFG -> Working very well...
3. Until the phone was restarted. The phone was still working however
4. IT BECAME FREEZING. I couldnt scroll, couldnt touch the screen, or the phone response was like 5 mins later for each touch.
5. I followed instructions on the internet to flash with stock rom (JM8) and upgraded it to JPO, and the result is
6. THE PHONE COULDNT BE BOOTED at the Galaxy logo.
7. I tried to flash the phone over and over with different stock roms using ODIN 1.3 (with well understanding about repartition and PIT)
8. NOW, my phone is still able to access the download mode, but my PC CANNT SEE THE PHONE DRIVER ANYMORE(tested on 3 other laptops with the same result)
9. Reinstall USB drivers like 20 times, the results have been the same.
TO me this should be a phone death. Im gonna purchase the new Galaxy S 2
HOWEVER, If there is anyway to revive my phone back to normal (Cuz I wanna get some important data in the internal card), I will not only send a big gratitude but some DONATE as well.
Thanks.
so you put the phone in download mode first... then you attach the USB ???
Does anything happen when your in Odin ?? does it not say connected or anything ??
and have you tried doing a factory reset in recovery mode ??
aslong as your phone can go into download mode there is still hope so dont give up on it just yet
U obv have samsung kies right?. Go on processes on ur pc ctrl alt del n kill the kiestrayagent process
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Surely I killed KS before doing ODIN. The PC(s) said it was Unknown device.
My phone was on when android 2.1 installed (but freezing, not just lagging .... completely freezing on the home screen) and would not boot if i installed 2.2
Sigh....
Thanks for your replies
The PC(s) said it was Unknown device.
Thats generally a USB /driver/windows problem .
You installed deadlys rom and it should still be recoverable even from that .
Is your phone picked up via Kies phone/Odin will need Kies installed .
I would have flashed back to a clean copy of Eclair first off to get the phone working .
jje
Both Kies and Odin could not see my phone... I killed Kies process before doing Odin, but the result was still a sadness.
Hi guys,
I think I possibly screwed up my wounderful sgs i9000 european edition
First of all I have to tell you how I came to this...
A long long time ago, today afternoon 17 o'clock european time I wanted to test the great CM7 and so I did, of course first I failed to flash it but then it worked. The phone worked fine but there came the point when I wanted to use samsung's firmware again, cause it has the apps I love.
So I just connected my phone with Odin and tried to flash a original Firmware, I think it was JS7. It worked, but then my phone didnt boot after the flash.
So I managed to make the phone boot into download mode, what is the only thing that works at the moment.
So I connected it again and tried to flash my phone one more time but then it didnt work
Odin stuck at the line "set pit-file" or somethin like that.
Well. What could I do? Reconnect and try to reflash and it doesnt work again
Do you know, guys, what I could do? I need my phone every day but atm it cant be flashed
Now I tried to reflash it again and I stuck at the line "SetupConnection.."
Maybe I should try to flash another kernel and try to flash a custom rom trough CWM? Maybe that would be the key for me?
My phone stuck at "SetupConnection.." since 10 minutes or so
PLS help me
best regards,
alex
is recovery mode working ?? if so do a full factory reset.
Get your self a firmware with all 3 files and PIT. something old like JM8 or even back to eclair.. This should contain the dbdata which ive had trouble with in the past.
When you have all that, connect your phone to odin and try again, Make sure kies IS NOT running (even in the icon tray) and make sure your drivers are upto date.
If download mode works, your phone will survive. As for Odin sticking on 'Setup Connection' That's something to do with the phone connecting to the PC.. Maybe try another USB port, or like mentioned previously, Kies running or out of date drivers ????
Anyway try the above steps. and post back your results.
Oh dont forget to make sure RE-PARTITION is CHECKED when your using Odin.
well, thank you very much for the useful information
at first I tried to flash my phone at my laptop, then on a pc, but it just didnt work
but now I 'm succefully flashing it again trough my laptop and hopefully it will work again
And yeah, DL Mode works fine, but nothing other
Well, seems to be that my phone just was flashed succefully
Damn, I was so scared that I have to return the phone to the reseller
Wonderful, it boots again
I wont take it easy as before with the flashing.
Sorry for the trouble created by me
And thanks again
gn8 (from my time zone) and best regards

Hello everyone,
Two days ago I try to make a firmware update to Gingerbread trough Kies.
After everything is finished the phone start, shows the main logo (the white one), start that animation with "S" and come on a black screen. Time to time he vibrate 2 or 3 times and only the back and menu buttons are illuminated.
1. Cannot use 3 buttons to get into download or recovery mode
2. Cannot put the phone in USB debugging (obviously)
3. For unknown reason I cannot instal ADB drivers (win7 shows the yellow triangle)
4. Samsung drivers are installed on Modem and USB (shows Samsung)
5. On "devices" , can be seen but again no ADB
6. ODIN see it on com8 but again for some reasons it wont work (probably because he work in download mode )
7. SDK is installed
8. ADB shows "no devices found"
9. No other button combination works (home+down , up+down +battery in + USB plugged ... etc)
Any suggestion/help ?
Thank you very much for reading and hopefully Ill get some help
Best regards,
Andrew
Have you tried "emergency reset" or whats it called in Kies?
Did you have the 3-button combo before the flash?
If so try to remove the battery and then with it removed press the combo and insert the battery-
Maybe you refer to that in number 8?
A JIG will for sure help you to get into download mode.
Good luck.
/qsec
Hello and thank you,
3 buttons combo didnt work before
Kies stays with the status "connecting" but no phone shows up in it.
Thankx,
Andrew
You in the UK .
Gingerbread no update via Kies its not released yet .
Kies has Firmware recovery or some such tab.
Was your phone lagfixed ..
Did your phone have custom rom .
Current condition of phone looks like you need download recovery jig from front page .
Or if no lagfix no custom rom then Samsung service centre failed Kies flash .
jje
Yes lag fixed OCLF
And Kies said something about firmware update. I do have Froyo 2.2 and the logical thing was Ginger so thats why i thought it is.
Thank you,
Andrew

Never had any problems with lagfix, but i guess if you do things in the wrong order without removing it before upgrading.
OP, did you follow any instructions, or just do it blind?
Never had any problems with lagfix
Your choice but failing to remove lagfix before flashing is a well posted problem on XDA .
jje
This is very true.
It was stupid of me flashing with lag fix installed evendo I read that YOU MUST remove lagfix before do it ....
Cheers,
Andrew

Worse, you flashed without enabling 3 button combo prior. Due to that you're unable to get into download nor recovery mode unfortunately. So unless that emergency firmware option in Kies won't help you will have to build or buy yourself a jig dongle/cable which is plugged into the phone by USB to force download mode. Check on ebay UK, there are surely some people selling professionally built ones for just a few pounds (got one myself from US for just $7 or so).
Once you have that, re-flash with Odin.
And once your phone is OK again, get that 3 button combo working! I used this method successfully. Soft bricked the first time thanks to using USB hub instead of direct USB as it wasn't mentioned in the stickies sadly. Yet thanks to the Jig I got prior I tried again and flashed my phone to enable 3 button combo forever.
P.S.: there is something else very vital I came across recently and am glad I saw it in time: backup of the /efs folder which contains IMEI etc:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914
(I hope that's mentioned in the stickies somwhere but if so I would have seen it unless I missed one)
After reading in these forums for hours before trying my very first flashing I might want to write a comprehensive guide...
I had Android 4.0.3 (IceCream Sandwich) on my Galaxy S GT-I9000B (I did install it through Odin, nothing went wrong), but is was laggish (too much for it to handle, I think) and after a few months, I decided to roll it back to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread).
I started the process to install the firmware through Odin3 v1.85 - the file I download (from sammobile.com/firmware, had only one file that I used on the PDA space.
Odin recognized my phone and I started to install it, but after a while my phone was stuck on the downloading screen (2 hours of installation, I tought that something went wrong).
I then turned my phone off to try and install again, but when I turned it on, there were a Phone - exclamation mark - Computer Symbol.
I can get it to dowlonad mode (Volume Down+Home+Power), but when I plug it to the pc, it says "unknown device" and it can't find drivers for it.
I think I have the latest drivers from Samsung (I had from Kies and I re-downloaded a file somewhere from this forum named SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_1_5_6_0.exe).
It appears that since windows can't install the drivers, Odin doesn't recognize the device - it was recognizing it before, when I was installing the firmware.
Now I'm stuck - I tried anything I saw in this forum and in other places - I did even pray for a miracle, but it didn't work
I know that there must be a way, but I don't know how.
Before I forget, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
If you can get it in download mode everything should be fine, I've had a problem like this, my pc couldn't see the phone in download no matter what. Try to use another USB port, better another PC. Also I've heard that x64 doesn't get along well with Odin. If possible you can try Linux and Heimdall, after all Android is Linux too.

Ok, k4Z3666, has given you a starting point...the phone is still in download mode but without a booting ROM, so its OK, the problem is your PC, USB cable or USB port. If you want to be quick about it, just try on a lap top..if not a simple Reboot of PC ( after removing power cord) and Phone (after a battery Pull), and a switch to a different USB port at the back of PC can solve this for some...for other solutions try these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571 anything else you may need can be found on My Android collections., link below

I tried other USB Ports and also rebooting. It was working just fine - it seems like a driver problem to me.
My notebook is dead, but I'll try using someone else computer.
Does Odin runs in Windows XP? I might try it in my virtual box - I doubt that it will work, but it is the best thing I have to do untill tomorrow.
I got it working in my mother's notebook - should I try something different? I only have the PDA, should I try a PIT?
I don't know what those do, but I read somewhere that PIT is used to recover bricked phones.
EDIT: I installed only the PDA, it worked fine on the 2nd time (first time, it got stuck but I could make it work changing the usb port and cable).
Now it is on loop - it repeats the samsung logo over and over again. Any ideas now?

what ROM did you use? Did you do any wipes?
Opps..you got an i900B, so make sure you are only using I9000B ROMS as i9000 is not compatible with your phone

Assuming that you're on the right rom for your phone can you enter recovery mode? Try reinserting battery, and enter recovery with [vol+, menu button, power on]

Yep if u want to back to stock u need pit file because ICS use different system file
Why u don't like ICS ? Its way better and faster than sammy ROM even its more stable , I think u should try it again with devil kernel with oc to 1.2 it will fly u can add some live oc which will give more fluidity

Ok, I'm posting it here just to leave a reply and reference for future generations, as my problem was solved.

I used a firmware from my country (available here: sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9000B&pcode=ZTO&os=1&type=1#firmware) and I wiped the cache (I'm not sure what this means, but I believe it is the 2 options on volume up+menu+power)

ICS wasn't faster here - it was laggish and always crashed some common apps (gallery, music player). I believe that the firmware wasn't completely "done" as it was being adapted from another version (my phone is brazilian) and some functionalities that it has (i.e. digital TV) wasn't available.
What I done to correct the boot was simple (I found a tutorial in a brazilian site, so it had all the roms that I needed).
1) Used a PIT and a stock rom to get it back to factory version;
2) Upgraded to Froyo (original) - That was kind of a mistake, the tutorial said to do it because then KIES would update it automatically to Gingerbread. The phone was fully functional, but KIES said that it couldn't update it (it recognized the phone and everything).
The tutorial stoped there, but since I had the ROM, I used Odin to install Gingerbread (the one that was looping) and it was done.
Now I need to remember how to root it because there are some dumb apps who can't get away (i.e. Orkut app, some demo games).
Thank you all for the help!

From recovery you can always try to flash another kernel, that would probably resolve things too. Anyways the problem's solved, glad to help
Hi!
I just recieved a Galaxy S and i have a problem.
At the beggining, the phone bootloops. Then I full wipe it, so now doesn't have that problem. Now the problem is, that when it loaded and show the start settings (select lang, date, time etc.) every single application on the phone "Force Close" and the phone reboot itself and repeat the same procedure. I don't know what kernel, ROM the phone use, but i think it is the stock one (2.3.4 or 2.3.6)
I am able to go to Download Mode, but when I do that, the phone can't connect with ODIN, also my computer doesn't recognize my phone when i am in Download Mode (when i try to turn on the phone, then my computer recognize: Samsung Android USB ...)
I also tryed to change the ROM via recovery, but there i've got very few options (reboot, apply updates, wipe data, wipe cache), so i'm not able to change the ROM from there.
Please, tell me what to do.
Edit: Sorry for my bad english
I'm pretty sure you only installed the wrong USB drivers. There should be some sort of tutorial on the web to get the right drivers for an Odin access. Anyways, be sure that KIES and all child processes are killed when using Odin (use the task manager to look that up).
Feel free to ask further questions

Hey! Thanks for the drivers above. The funniest thing is that the computers in my school recognized my phone, so do ODIN. But my computer still not recognized the device. Tonight i will send files to my flashdrive so tomorrow i will flash ROM with ODIN in my school (i have an admin account ) When i get back from school, i'll post the results here.
[sorry for my bad english, again]
Hi, again! Today I messed everything up. First, i flashed with ODIN the Darky's ROM but after installation 20 minutes the phone freezed at the logo (no progress there). Then I flashed CWM with ODIN and tried to install CM10 without success. After the installation the only thing which was changed was the CWM (new version 6.x.x.x). Then I tried to flash new kernel (Semaphore_JB_2.5.0s) and now its freezes at the logo "SEMAPHORE". I dont have recovery anymore, only the Download Mode.
Please, give me a link with the steps or show me how to install new ROM property, because this is the 3rd day i'm trying to start the phone with new ROM. Kies don't help, because "USB Debugging" is not activated on my phone (i can't activate it, because of the problem).
Thanks.
cm9 with odin
for cm9 with odin check this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419102
Flashing shouldn't take more than a few minutes. CM9 was stable for me - with cm10 I still have a few problems.
start from stock rom
I think you should flash stock rom first.
flash GB firmware 2.3.6 (recommend JVU).
flash CF-root for jvu.
you can find stock firmware easily here as well.as instructions.
make sure play around with your phone for a while after done. then go ahead to any custom rom.
