Just curious.
My phone from November 2005 till May 2009 was a Samsung Z140.
¿Why?. I still didn´t know Android, and that happened in May 2009 that I bought a HTC Magic and WOOOOW. Now I have a Samsung Galaxy S.
I swap phones about every 8-10 months, or sooner if something real interesting comes along. But, I had a HD2 for 20 months, which is a real long time for me. That was just a powerhouse of a phone though. If it wasn't for the SGS2 coming along I'd still have it now.
Probably the EVO because there wasnt a worthy upgrade until the evo3d was released.

How do you switch so often!?
The longest I had a phone was this one, and my htc glacier. I usually switched phones every few months. That list of phones is from July two years ago.

I get phones on contract 1/2 the time and then sell them and buy unbranded ones the other 1/2 the time. I'm just fickle. I was actually tempted (and still am) to get rid of my 6 month old Galaxy S2 for a Galaxy Note.
I still have my excalibur since 2007. Used it often. I like it. ALso a kaiser from 2008 and a Mega.
I actually still have an HD2 with ICS, so it stills rocks. Probably I'll buy another phone in a couple of months (waiting for prices to go down)

Buy my Galaxy S2 so I can buy a Note
Every 4-5 months I switch. I get bored easily 0.o
Sent from my HTC Sensation with Beats Audio using Tapatalk
I had my last phone - a lame Samsung flip phone - for almost 3 years because it just wasn't worth an upgrade (in my opinion). Thanks to cheaper data plans and tons more options for smartphones, it finally seemed like a good time to switch.
SAMSUNG GRAVITY 1 why? i had no money o upgrade on my 2 year contract lol
I have kept all phones I have owned since 2006. I plan on recycling all but my HD2, Captivate and my new LTE Galaxy S 2 I traded my AT&T Galaxy S 2 for yesterday.
Mine was the Moto Razr (I know... very sad). I had it for 3 yrs in College (been a few years).
Nokia 1100. Probably 13 years old at this point. I still play snake on the b!itch while I wait for roms to finish flashing.

Hey guys,
I've been looking to buy a Nexus, however Im hesitant because of all the rapid improvements to smart-phones lately. Seems like just yesterday my G1 was the **** because of its 528mhz processor.. But if I were to lay down the $500+ for it, I would hate for the "Nexus 2" to come out a month later.. accompanied by the regret and face palms. Of course, I'm not expecting that specific scenario to unfold, but how long do you think the specs for the N1 will last as a competitive player in the field? And do you think it's safe to say the upcoming android updates we have yet to experience will be compatible with it?
-Thanks for your input!
The Nexus One is a great phone, but as with the G1 ALL technology is eventually replaced, I chose the nexus one becuase its Googles phone, which means if any phone has a chance to still be the beta tester for all android things to come it would be the nexus one. The Evo and Incredible are all basically re-branded Nexus One's, same hardware different software. The nexus one was my first smartphone, actually my first phone ever (my parents hate tech lol) and I've seen people with their iphones and bberries and I pull out my nexus one and KNOW without a shadow of a doubt I have the best phone. If the nexus one looks appealing to you and you are happy with what it can do, I say you wont be dissapointed. But, if you are hesitant and iffy on the purchase, perhaps wait and see whats around Androids corner. I love my nexus one and from what I see from competitive android smartphones and still think mine is the best.
-Cheers with your decision
Sell your G1, use the money towards the N1... Do it soon, buying the N1 via google won't last much longer, once retailers get ahold of it it'll cost considerably more.
The rumor/heresay is that the N2 will be out in Nov. Then just repeat the cycle of selling old, use money towards the new one.
Kind of like you're leasing the best phone at the moment
If you say n2 will come and will wait, and when the n2 comes out ou can wait for the n3. you can do two things.
Buy a new phone, and sell it after few months to buy a new one. if you sell it before a newer version comes out you can sell it almost the same price you bought it. put some extre $ and buy a new one. I do this > i had over 30 phones in my life > i'm 22 years now
or what you also can do is skip a generation. so if you buy n1 skip n2 and wait for n3 (for example). so you can use you don't have to switch phones that often.
I bought the N1 as my first smartphone and have been very happy with it. I would say it will last a while since Google demonstrated their new OS (Android 2.2) on it and also previewed the release after that on a N1. That gave me hope to know that it will work with the release of 2.2 and also the release after that. Whether they will continue to release the new OS for it after that is unknown, but there are always custom ROMs that could add functionality.
Go For It
I say buy the N1 if you like it. Yeah, there's no front-facing camera, gyroscope, or whatever else the next line of premium Android phones will all contain. It is still going to receive Google's updates first for at least another year. Also, as with the G1, the dev community is doing excellent work and should have no problem extending it's life even further beyond that. If the G1 is still going almost 2 years and numerous updates later, Nexus owners have nothing to worry about.

I don't think so. It will be aggressively priced once it hits retailers. Or may be bundled with some accessories.
Either act today, or wait 6 months. This market moves fast.
seriously this thread has been posted so many times before. just search. the nexus will be the flagship until next january for sure. it still has a long life left, so buy it and enjoy it. nexus two isnt even a rumor yet, and wouldnt be out till next year.
Motorola has a 2ghz phone hitting store before the end of the year, with 1080P vide out.
You're never gonna be "top of the line" for more than 6 months.

I already see it listed at various other places for $650+.
Somehow, I doubt that will come down once buying straight from the "manufacturer" for "cheap" is no longer an option.
Hello, I was offered a mint condition Galaxy Note for USD 350. Do you think this phone would last a couple years more or should I buy a newer phone?
Thanks in advance.
Thats not such a bad price, The Note is a great phone and will definitely last a good few years, Ive had mine 6+ months and ill be keeping it til the release of the Note 3.
However, If you do pay $350 for it, How much would you be paying per month for your talk time / web usage ? Wouldnt you be more suited to a contract ? if so, you could get the Note 2 for a good price especially with all the xmas deals around.
Plus you wouldnt have to part with all of your $350 either ! you could spend it on sex drugs and rock n roll !

Hahaha, thanks for the answer, I live in south america so no contracts for me. I was wondering if official updates will be available for this phone until 2014 or if the Rom development will be in good shape for the next year, in that case, I would consider buying it.
I just bought one for $300 , I would say its well worth it, I dropped kicked att (they suck) for Straight Talk and it works flawless , the screen is great ,the phone is remarkable ,I love it!
custom roms will still be going in 1-2 years easily, They still make custom roms for my old SGS which is about 3 yrs old now.
however, you wont see official updates because they only support handsets for 18months after release, so i think JB will be our final release, we will see KLP custom roms tho :good:
So my Nexus 5 will be here in a few days! I just realized that this will be the first Android phone I have ever owned that was not made by HTC! I've owned an Android from ever since the very first HTC G1 was released. I must had owned at least 6-8 different Android phones throughout the years and every single one of them was manufactured by HTC, including of course the HTC One that I sold to buy the Nexus 5.

Yeah I figured the speaker quality wouldn't hold a candle to the HTC One... As for the screen, I've seen mixed reviews. Alot of people say its sharp clear and bright, but a little bit washed out (which I can deal with).

I was pretty impressed with the release notes yesterday. Ive been nothing but happy with my N6 (got it new since it came out), but ive got the new phone itch lol.
Also since im on Project Fi, they were offering the VR gear for free (most likely would not have bought it on my own, just my personal opinion). So ive got my order in for an XL. We shall see how that goes.
imo I think it is really pricy. Cant justify myself spending so much for a pixel. beside that I think my n6 and n5 is still usable at least till the next pixel release.
No Pixel for me. Not going to pay that kind of money for a phone. I got my N6 just a year ago and it is still working perfect. If i buy a new phone then I will spent no more then 400 euro on it.

I agree, I was a bit surprised at the pricing.
Although, the days of renewing your contract and getting a $200 smart phone are gone. I think every phone company (around me anyways - ATT, VZ, Sprint, Tmobile, ect) are all charging full retail for phones now ($650+)
Its not as bad of a hit having it over 24 month payments and them not charging interest on it.
I'm getting it. Most of the people on here too are. No matter what they say. They will be craving it by xmas.
I preordered a 128GB Pixel XL for $921 to get the free VR headset deal, but I decided to cancel my order a few hours later. I'll wait for some reviews and root confirmation before I drop that kind of dough on something I'll be bored with in a year or less. Hopefully there will be a black Friday sale next month or some holiday deals at the end of the year.
The Pixel looks like a really really nice phone, but being a full time student with no job puts a big crunch on my budget for toys.

Hmm did not know that.
I had them for 10+ years but got tired of paying soooo much for my bill (grandfathered unlim data). When Project Fi was announced, I hopped on. Kept both VZ and Fi for 2-3 months to compared reception in the areas I spent most my time. Fi held up just fine and is LESS THAN HALF of what I was paying big red (just dont get unlim data).
Wonder if they will keep that trend going.

I was tempted to switch to Fi before, but I always had the idea in the back of my mind that someday I might grow tired of Nexus or the new iteration won't be as good (Pixel).
Anyways, if you still have a line on VZW, you can check it out, otherwise you can try to woo a representative into giving you the contract deal
I have no idea what makes anyone believe most people on here will buy the pixel. Literally 95% of the posters have an extremely negative opinion of the device on the threads out there. I would rather buy an iphone than a pixel at those prices. Too many other decent options to consider.

The N6 was equally ridiculously overpriced in 2014, so I laughed at the idea of buying it. Besides my Note 3 was only one year old, just reached the age I cared less if the knox flag is 0x1 or not. Also a SD805 upgrade over a SD800 is not an upgrade. And the Note 3 had a better camera.
And a year later I changed my mind.

The price is high, but the constituency here are tech heads. People will groan and grumble, but eventually get it. Provided their is good community support.
When a phone like our N6 starts to lose community support for being old, it's not very gratifying to own.
The only thing that would possibly stop me, if the bootloader was locked down tight with no option to root.
UPDATE: Ok, I did check the price. Pixel XL with 128g is probably about 900+ with tax delivered. Yea, that might push me out.

Yes you are right that after year or two prices cut down but think of a person who bought Nokia 8 and next day it's price cut down.i am trying to say how does Nokia flagship loses its value just in two months.
So? What? Are you new on smartphone ecosystem? Almost every manufacturer pushes new flagship every 6-8 months, making the last one obsolete. 2 years old phone nowadays is very old, that's why no manufacturer provides updates after 2 years. (excluding Apple)
Nokia 8 is 4 months old, of course it's price has come down. First price drop of any phone happens 2-4 months after release.
Look at Samsung s8, it took only 3 months to go from $720 to 570, a price drop of $150.

Yes you are absolutely right.
No offence guys this thread is just discussion regarding price cut , don't get angry :highfive:
Pointless thread, you either pay the price when the device is relatively new or play it smart and buy it after the hype, I always buy ex-flagships for great prices and top features, currently on my LG V20, LG another brand which depreciates a lot. You need to wake up and understand the market. Not getting angry just annoyed at the clickbait-esque thread title and stupidity of it all. God help car forums if you buy one new from a dealership and look at used prices...
