Hi,
I am looking more into flashing my rom, and I am really struggling to work out how much is involved as all the guides are in seperate parts. Is there one guide that has everything in it, or can someone help me through the process? My phone arrives tomorrow and i desperately want WM6.5.
All help is much appretiated.

it is the complete guide..
Thanks!
So when i finish the HSPL bit everything is done? Also is there any preperation I need to do? I have installed MS .NET framework but unsure if I need anything else!
I use USPL via USPL GUI myself to flash my phone, a totally painless process and one that doesn't invalidate your warranty.
Just make sure you sort out the activesync usb settings and away you go.

as soon as u have flashe any rom other than the stock ur warranty is void.
but to cheat the htc guys u can revert to the stock rom.
in the similar manner u can also revert to the stock spl.
I think Hspl is the better option because u need not run uspl each time and just need to flash the rom as if it were a stock..
and the original asker of the question..
Yes it's all done after getting the HSPL thingy.
the only thing now left is to find urself a suitable rom from the forum and flash it..
cheers.

Thanks again! I think I am going to do it but I am still really worried as I dont want to damage my phone! At which point in the process am I most likely to cause an error, and what point is the point of no return. If I was to somehow brick the phone, could it be fixed?

It was mentioned earleir to sort out your USB drivers. Here is the Dummies Guide to this.
If things go wrong they are most likely to be due to the wrong SPL version and you then get a blue/green screen when you load the ROM, but you can still recover by loading the correct SPL. I was also very nervous my first time, but thinking back to the difference between the stock ROM and the wonderful ROMs I have used over the past few months, they have made using the phone a pleasure.
Just read Digital Outcasts thread on Flashing and take it slowly and follow step for step and all will be okay. If you read and things do go wrong there are many clever and helpful people on this forum to help you recover
Thanks again. I will ensure I do that first then. Is there anything else I need to do as I really do not want to brick my new expensive phone! Im only 16 so buying a new one wont be easy lol.

That should be about it in terms of prep - do you have .net 3.5 installed on the pc also?.
Once you get the phone try to keep the stock ROM on for a few days - you will appreciate the great work the guys like Dutty do a lot more. Also before you flash take ote of the stock ROM version and SPL version so that you can revert to these in the event of needing a warranty claim or service.
Then, just take it nice and SLOW, READ carefully and follow EACH STEP to the letter.
No need to continue with this thread. Any further posts should be in Dummies guide to flashing

I need to update my g1, but my home and call buttons are not working. I tried resetting my phone as well (I need to sell it and need to take out my personal info) but it wont reset with cyanogen mod. Without my home button working I can access the installer either. Is it possible to install it from terminal emulator?
do you have adb set up on your computer? what exactly are you trying to do? and yes, just to be an ass, this is in the wrong section... there now no one else can tell you and hopefully you wont get flamed...

Hopefully you still have warranty? If you do, call Tmobile to send you a new phone.

he will have to unroot first though...
Why dont the buttons work? How can you sell it if the buttons dont work on it? I agree, they will not honor the warranty if it has custom software on it.

got wet, I can sell it for parts i guess on ebay. people still buy them like that. I tried setting up adb, but no avail.
just go to settings>sdcard phone storage>factory reset from there...and the only voided warranty from rooting is the software not hardware. But I guess it would be hard to prove that the phone isn't damaged cause of rooting...

Can't you download Quick Boot from the market? I don't really understand the scenario here, but if you need to get into recovery or bootloader mode that will do the job..
I'll give you £25 for it
Can't you get into bootloader by typing reboot-bootloader in the terminal? SU needed of course.
Moved as not Android Development.
if you want to send it in, it will have to be unrooted first. that is coming from my experiences will t-mobile. and what tutorial did you use to set up adb? i suggest using this one here
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Opera...-need-to-modify-your-Android-phone/m-p/173248
just scroll down for the "how to install ADB on XP/VISTA link, and click it. it is a very detailed tutorial, and very easy to use. good luck!

awsome, got it to the recovery, but I can't wipe or update since I can't "confirm" by pressing the home button... this sucks.
OK, I finally fixed adb and have acces to the phone.... What command can I type in to flash or wipe everything and basically return the phone to normal? (without all my info on it?) I tried fastboot -w but im not sure it works.
use an older recovery...
JF original or Cyan original dont need home to confirm
if you searched the forum
I answered this same thing like a week ago...

I'm sorry for the late reply if this problem isn't already solved, flash an older version of that room you're using. Then if you want, flash back to the new one. WOrked for me.
Is it possible to backup the TA Partition (DRM Keys) without root?
The Backup TA tool requires root, although I haven't tried it yet.
No, and why you asking this question if clearly is wrote HERE.

When decrypting files after official update one of the files seems to hold TA information... no root required....
I might be wrong.

You are wrong, the only thing that file includes is a customisation ID reset, besides, writing to TA is not the same as reading from TA. I'm sorry but this just isn't going to happen.

Cool
Thanks for input.
Today I learned something new.
Well i wanted to try to root manually. But that requires an unlocked bootloader. But i cant backup the ta without root. So it becomes a chicken and the egg problem.
So i was just wondering if theres any other way to back up, but i guess theres not

I guess you don't search and read properly. You can root your phone with Locked Bootlader.

No, I want to experiment a bit, not just use the pre-made tools or images. I'd like to try it completely manual, something like this.

no offense:
with this kind of attitude, technical progress would just stagnate.
don't get me wrong, i really don't want to offend you, but i'd rather support people who are trying to do something "the other way" instead of turning him down.
i'd go even further and give him probs for digging in deeper rather then just relying on tools made by others.

No taken, just read what he asked in the first post. Then ask your self, is that easy to extract the FTF and Root it "Manually" and then flash it again or even extract just the system.sin, switch to insecure and do all steps to get root. Even an ignorant like me understand in first place if something like that will be possible we will not have all this trouble to get root. Ending this story how you can ask just for Backup TA without Root and not explain what you REALLY want to do? Which help you get? Come on!

I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't going to say anything. So thank you dude.
I know I didn't explain myself fully in the initial question. I was just looking for a simple yes/no answer, I didn't think the context was that important to the question.

I think you don't think enough, I do not stop your development, you do starting from a point where is there no way out.
This is the ONLY solution which you have, from a guy without experience like me, Root your phone with the method by NUT for Locked Bootloader, there is no other way for your purpose, then when you are rooted easily you can Backup your TA and DRM keys. Now you are in safe place and you can Flash Back Stock Rom from PC Companion or from Flashtool some FTF from XDA and you are ready, Stock like NEW with Locked Bootloader ready to Unlock it and experiment what you have in mind.

I fail to see how this bricks the phone, it's a dynamic image
On my phone it literally loads a virtualised android which I can stop with a restart
I was curious once and launched the one I circled in the photo
I don't think you should brick it any more than I did but it's probably not a Virtual Machine you're looking for ^^

Well I assumed it was a way to flash myself when I got curious but I wasn't able to apply the virtual one, tried several times as well after.
That's all I ask for, remove my Gapps xDD but no
So ye if someone knows how to apply it I'll be interested ^^
