[Q] Oh No! Not Another Kies / Outlook Sync Problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Driving me nuts, so here goes.
Worked 1 time and never worked again.
Windows XP environment, running Outlook 2003 SP3
USB interface to Samsung SGH-I777
Kies current version (just downloaded).
Kies can not find Outlook, even though Outlook is exactly where it belongs and has not moved. Outlook file is named the default Outlook.pst
When you try to sync anything (contacts, schedule, etc) the error message is "Cannot retrieve information for Outlook folder."
Is there a configuration setting somewhere to point to the Outlook file?
What needs to be changed (cleaned up? purged? pointed to?) so Kies can find the Outlook file and a sync can actually happen?
Any constructive suggestions cheerfully accepted.

- Alternative to Kies -
On Android phone:
Contacts: save & sync with Google account, never save to Phone contacts.
Photos: save to external sdcard.
Apps: use market app AppBrain.
Appointments/calendar: sync with Google account, setup Hotmail as Exchange mail.
Read how to sync Outlook - Gmail on Google Gmail.
SMS: GO SMS Pro handles backup, or use other messaging backup app (Market) to serve stock messaging.
The Samsung USB drivers are available without installing Kies:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/SAMSUNG-USB-Driver-1480.shtml
I usually have USB mass storage + USB debugging enabled all the time, and SGS function like an USB stick when connecting to Windows.
In case of emergency this make adb contact anytime. Freeware (win/linux/ios) QTadb is really handy in root operation.
= never use Kies
Thx for reading, press THANKS if u like

Sorry, but I was asking for a KIES solution.
There are plenty of other options, and I do NOT want a Google solution.
Appreciate your taking the time to reply, but it did not answer my problem.
Still waiting for a constructive solution.

STILL waiting for a useful response.
I am looking for how to make Kies actually work.
Or is Kies such a piece of garbage it is incapable of working?
Come on folks - Kies to sync via USB between Outlook and an Android phone.
This should be a no-brainer. It don't work! How do we make it work?
Anyone?????

Connect your VPN first if exchange server need VPN
I get the same problem with my office exchange server is in VPN.
connect the VPN and open outlook to see successfully connected or not.
Retry after connected.
The problem go away if outlook working properly.

found an app in Play Store called "Outlook Synced Note - USB Sync" not sure if it'll help but you could give it a try... also had this link on page http://www.android-sync.com/

Active sync error message, please help

I am happy i have WM5 finally working and sweet on my MDA III, but i cannot syn my device with my outlook, or anything. I have tried with Outlook open, it gives me "Support code: 85010014" i have uninstalled and deleted the folder, repaired outlook and i am not using activesync 4.1 and it is still giving th error message. I also have SP2, everything up to date. I have deleted and created new pathnerships, and uninstalled and reinstalled, still getting the same problem. Please any ideas will help. It is not connecting to an exchange server, i have also read around so i decided to post mine.
Activesync and WM5
Activesync under WM5 is different than under WM2003. You didn't indicate how you were trying to sync, I assume via a usb cradle/cable. With WM2003 the syncronization via a usb protocol. For some reason under wm2005, they decided to switch to TCP/IP.
If you look in your PC's network connections with your phone plugged in you will find a window's mobile local area connection. Unplug the cable and the local area connection drops off. The observation is that you now have to allow this connection through whatever firewalls you have setup. This week when ever I had the firewall turn on ActiveSync would not work. I eventually removed and reinstalled Activesync 4.0 (I was on 4.1) and I assume the installation process configured my XP firewall correctly this time around. Check your firewall settings.
Tried it
I only have the windiws firewall, i even disabled the micrisoft antispyware and it still giving me the same error message
Activesync, WM5 and Windows Firewall
Check your Windows Firewall exceptions, I have the following exceptions for the Windows Firewall:
ActiveSync Application (WCESMgr.exe)
Activesync Connection Manager (wcescomm.exe)
Activesync RAPI manager (rapimgr.exe)
Activesync Service (TCP Port 26675)

Hi,
I have the same problem too. I just updated to ROM1.60c and ActiveSync 4.1 build 4807. When I try to sync, tt keeps giving me the error code 85010014.
The funny thing is, I have no problems syncing Notes from Outlook. But the other Outlook items like Contacts, Calendar and Tasks are not so lucky.
What's happening? How come only Notes can sync?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Tried it
i have tried it all, it is not working, i have disabled all firewall, something keeps popping up on my pda that it cannot get an ip, i just ignore from reading the wiki. I cannot get MS voice command to work, after install i get an error message, i really want to use WM5, i can do with out voice command, but active sync is very important. i think i will use active sync 3.8 in the mean while see if it works :?
obiesoft,
Are you using OST feature of Outlook? If so, make sure your Outlook client is connected to your Exchange Server during your first sync (i.e. when prompted choose "Connect" not "Work Offline", if not prompted check settings in Control Panel-Mail). Not to be confused with having ActiveSync connect directly to Exchange Server. This solved my problem with 85010014.
Good luck!
i am not using an exchange server, just outlook on a desktop, it syns perfectly on my laptop, so i am trying to find where the problem is. Also, my bluetooth always disconnects, why is this and how can i solve it?
Can i please get more help
Ok, My device synced with my laptop (which connects over wireless to the internet at home). I was happy about this so i copied my pst files from my outlook from desktop to the outlook folder on laptop and it now asks for password to an exchange server??? all this is weird, i just want all my contacts to go in with my calender info. Also the bluetooth is rubbish, it disconnects, any fixes or tricks to keep it up and running? i use HBH 300 headset. Also voice command is installed but when i activate it, it says "voice command ready" and then an error message pops us. I love WM5, but anything to fix these glitches so i can keep using it? Help will be greatly appreciated.
Hmm... sorry, don't have much else to add... might be time to unsinstall and re-install Outlook on your desktop....
Bluetooth
Well i will keep trying with outlook or if worst comes to the worst, enter everything onto my pda by hand. (DAMN).
But besides that, is anyone having problems with bluetooth? mine keeps disconnecting.

I also have the same problem. It has been driving me nutts for 4 days now.
WORKING!!!
I have a desktop which i sync my WM2003 with, but since i upgraded, i have been having problems. Now it is working, but this is what i did, nothing too technical
1. I have a laptop which has most of my downloads and programs i write for school and work.
2. I installed active sync 4.0 on my laptop and synced, it worked, but my data is on my desk top
3. on the desktop i went to C:\Documents and Settings\jiggaman\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook (jiggaman is name of my desktop) and copied the personal data files to the same path on my laptop, then i opened outlook, deleted the dupilcate email accounts and synced, it worked!!
4. It updated my PDA and latop, all this means now is that i have to sync with laptop, not desktop anymore. So if you have another computer, you can try this cause it would not sync for the past 2 weeks with my desktop.
Good luck!
Any ideas on bluetooth? it is still acting up.
Re: Support Code 85010014
Hi there,
I had this problem with a PPC-6700 from Sprint. (EVDO HTC Apache with WM2005) I hacked around a lot, did the repairs, reinstalled ActiveSync, no go. I decided to reinstall Outlook and, for some reason, that did the trick. I also have 2 different versions of Office, Pro 2003 and the Student and Teacher Edition. I think I had problems with installing from the pro cd, but I'm not certain. Not sure if it has something to do with that or not.
I solved my ActiveSync problem with Error 85010014.
I also run Eudora and Incredimail Plugin for Outlook on both PCs, Work and Home. Both are on XP Pro SP2 and when I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on my work PC without issue, I decided to attack my Home PC Outlook installation to see if I could resolve the issue.
So, At home:
Putting Outlook in Offline mode did not solve the problem.
I uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 - No difference.
I backed up Outlook via 3rd party program to grab account settings as well as my 2GB pst file then ran Help->Detect and Repair... - reboot, no difference.
I then ran Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003 and chose to modify my installation by adding or removing components. I unchecked Outlook and updated it to remove Outlook from my Office 2003 suite. Then returned to this option and re-checked Outlook to add it back to my Office 2003 Suite, CD-Rom in hand but updating it did not ask for the Office 2003 Install CD-Rom... - Rebooted and connected - Bingo NO 85010014 error!

I'm glad it worked for you also.
I have since chosen to "Delete Mobile Device" from ActiveSync as I did not like the name it had chosen. I then disconnected, went to PDA
Start->Settings->System->About->Device ID
then set it to want I want it to read.
I then connected to ActiveSync and predictably saw the new connection wizard, BUT it warned it could not see Outlook at all! It suggested I install a version of Outlook etc. even though it was visible and running on my desktop!
I connected anyway - Contacts, Tasks, Calendar, Notes options greyed out.
Rebooted PC XP Pro SP2 and now ActiveSync options were available. I enable Syncing of Contacts, Tasks, Calendar and Notes. Resynced and got the dreaded 85010014 error status again!
UnInstalled and Re-Installed Outlook 2003 from the Office Suite but did not reboot PC. ReSynced and this time I get Windows PC: Attention required Error 8503001f

Maybe a reboot is required... So I'll post this and see...
I have now found that uninstalling the Outlook component from Office 2003, rebooting then re-installing Outlook component to be effective 90% of the time in curing ActiveSync errors.
To solve the hardest 10%, I have found that I need to update the Windows\system32\MAPI32.DLL which only can be done without Outlook or WCESMgr.exe running. (Use Windows Task Manager to kill them first)
See zip file of the MAPI32.DLL that always works for me, even if the existing version says it's identical (i.e. from Windows Copy Dialog).
I now have two XP SP2 PCs syncing up to WM2003SE XDA II and my WM2005 i-mate Jasjar.
P.S. I found a solution to AvantGo over sized text in WM2005, use Tweaks2K2 .NET version 3.15.0 feature #75-Double Pixeling deactivation for individual programs in VGA Devices.
I now manually sync via WiFi on my Jasjar using "AvantGo Connect" application, like I manually sync WeatherPanel as required as GPRS charges are criminal in this country!
Contacts wont sync on upgraded BlueAngel
I upgraded to WM5 and things are good so far. I had some trouble Syncing with 4.1 on my pc but not with my laptop. The problem now is that I have only been able to get my contacts to sync partially. Ive looked through the posting, but I have not been able to find any solutions. Any one out there know a way around this problem or a solution I should say.

ActiveSync 4.5 probs

Recently I've used the recovery dvd to reset my PC. I also have to install Active Sync. Strangely enough I couldn't install the disk that HTC puts into the boxes where you buy your phones in. The program says that you must install flash 8.0 or higher with a link that link you up to Adobe's website. I already did install the latest flash player. I uninstall it, reset the computer, put in the disk, hit the link, install the flash player again, restart again. Still the same message. After that I downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 at the website of Microsoft. It works okay.
When I put a new contact in the phone it won't set the contact into Word Office Outlook 2003. Otherwise it works.
I've tried to delete the device into ActiveSync and loaded up in it again but that won't work unfortunately. Please help!
Is everything else you selected to sync sychronising properly? It's not just simply that you didn't select the options when you re-installed?
Does ActiveSync come up with any error messages? It could be that you need to delete partnerships and re-establish them - in my experience ActiveSync is a bit 'fussy' when uninstalled and re-installed.
Whatever, make sure you do full backup(s) before trying anything - I lost all my data one time when an engineer 'tried' to re-establish my ActiveSync partnership!
My pc was completly turned up side down so I used the recovery dvd and that deleted the whole C disk, also ActiveSync. I do had to download ActiveSync from the website because the disk wouldn't run. And yes I do change some options.
It can not synchronised some contacts that I install on my Topaz. Installing contacts in Outlook 2003 to the device works, otherwise not.
It gives the warning code 1.
Sorry, not sure what to suggest here.
If NOTHING from the phone is syncing with Outlook (i.e. no Appointments, Tasks or whatever) it sounds to me as though it could be a problem with the firewall - if you have one set up. Try disabling that and syncing.
If it's only Contacts that aren't syncing, but it works the other way, I'm at a loss.
Worth looking at the Microsoft Support pages - but ActiveSync often seems to have a mind of its own!
Sorry I can't help.

It does Sync tasks, appointments, etc. Just a couple of contacts strangely enough :S
...and it won't sync NEW Contacts at all? I've had the problem previously where existing Contacts didn't get changed - ActiveSync seemed to have got 'confused' as to which was the most up-to-date version and I had to go through entire Contacts list making small changes, waiting for them to be replicated, and if they were not then deleting that Contact on both devices and adding them back in.
That's simpler than it reads - but if you can't add NEW Contacts from the phone I'm not sure that's the problem.
Sorry.
Thnx for your input
ive tried to synce my gmail contacts all goes well with the setup then it wont even sync i keep hitting the synce button and NOTTA. so i said fuc* it and did it all manually. must be a microsoft thing.

How To Sync The N1

Sorry if this has been covered already, I did search but could not find a response that suited.
I was using an HTC Touch Dual, on plugging into my desktop dock it synced with Microsoft Outlook, this was appointments, contacts, calendar etc. I want to do the same with my N1. I assume I need an App that works in a similar fashion to Windows Mobile Device Centre? I did do a little scouting about but a lot referenced doing so via Google. I prefer a non-online method if possible, plug and sync.
Can anyone suggest the best app or apps to acheive this please.
You can check out 'missing sync for android'. They have for both pc & mac.
That being said, i'm afraid i can't be of any more help as i've not used it. Personally pefer syncing to google's cloud
totally new, what is google cloud? and thanks for the info, i'll check it out, in the meantime if anyoone else has any suggestions, please respond.
Additionally, can apps be installed to memory card? if so, how in laymans terms
wow, $39 dollars just to be able to sync :-(
Your Google account, which keeps all the data (contacts, calendar etc) in sync with your phone over the air (or actually, over the data connection or WiFi). It wasn't designed to be plugged in to sync.
Assuming you're okay with syncing your Outlook data via the cloud and not only looking for a direct (ie plugged in) syncing solution, then gSyncit is a good utility to use to sync Outlook data to Gmail account; it's $14.99.
I used to use it before I switched from Windows to Mac at home.
http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
I use the Google Cloud too. My info is available in the same form on my computer, my phone, and online. Contacts and Calendar at least. Best part of that method is that if you flash your phone it auto-downloads all your info from your google account when you log-in to through first boot. No plugging in and resyncing. I'm on a Mac, and this is the easiest and cheapest option for me. I won't shell out for Missing Sync because it gave me nothing but headaches for my former WinMo device. Other files are saved to my SD card and I can move them around as I please. Either via USB transfer or Dropbox.

We're using the term 'cloud' here to refer to cloud computing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing) where data is stored by third parties (in this case Google) and accessed via the internet.
Essentially what we're suggesting is that you sync your N1 with your PC's data via Google, ie the third party utilities mentioned above can sync to and from your PC to your GMail account (calendar, contacts, etc). Your N1 will then sync to and from your GMail account.
HTH
many thanks, i'll check the info out, still a shame there is not an offline method, so far being the only downside since my change from htc touch dual on windows mobile.
tried gsyncit but when i click on settings I get an error, perhaps not compatible with windows 7?
Error = Interface not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040155)
at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.ApplicationClass.get_COMAddIns()
at gsyncit.TrayClient.frmMain.OnSettings(Object sender, EventArgs e)
Version = 1.15.27.0
got past the fault, have synced my outlook with my gmail account, however my phone is not synced with it, where am i going wrong please
In your phone it asks you for default account to sync with, when you just start it for the first time.
If you skipped that part - make sure you're on data connection (preferrably WiFi or fast 3G data), go to Settings / Accounts & Sync, press "Add account", add your Gmail account, and enjoy.

I'm running my copy of gsyncit at work on Windows 7 64bit without any issues - I run the 64bit release as I use Office 2010 there.
Best bet is check the faqs on the developer's site, or failing that contact Dave himself - I've always found him very helpful in the past.

[Q] How to sync with outlook?

I got XP SP3, and Outlook 2007 SP 2.
Used Kies to sync phone with Outlook.
Result? It erased all outlook contacts/calender items, and non got synced to phone. Tried a bunch of times, each time it did the same.
How do I sync?
Not sure about using Kies, I havn't tried it, however google has built in outlook calendar into gmail now, not sure if this will do contacts though it might just be calendar?

problem is google sync is blocked by firewall.
Guess I would have to export things from outlook, import at another PC, then use google sync. What a hassle, I would really like updated calendar events.
Here's an idea: do you run Outlook as standalone, or is Exchange running as the email server with Outlook as the client-side application?
If Exchange is running, have you looked at this, on the handset:
Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> then press Add Account ->More Accounts -> Corporate
You then get a screen which lets you set up an account which syncs to Exchange.
I haven't tried this, since I use Outlook running against a different email server. Maybe it will be the solution for you.
here is another great alternative

Don't you have to export the Outlook contacts to a file, and then import it into the phone? From what I see in Kies, that's the only way to get things started.

In Outlook you run File -> Export, and save the data to a .csv file. Kies is looking for a file like this.
The "sync with outlook" button is for syncing in the other direction: from the Galaxy S to Outlook.

no wonder it deleted all my contacts, and talk about illogical.
Sync is a 2 way street, not one way!
Clicking the open file button in Kies, causes Kies to halt, doesn't seem like it likes mapped network drives.
*sigh*
Ragnar, I don't think that Kies is the best software to accomplish the contacts syncing. I imagine you are dealing with a company email server, perhaps running Exchange?
I gave up on Kies for this task. I am now using Synthesis, a SyncML client, to do an over-the-air sync. There is a 30-day free licence and then one has to buy it. You can also try Funambol, which is free. Of course, using a SyncML client demands that the email server must be running a SyncML server.
Probably you can try "Android Manager-WIFI"? It's free but it only supports wireless data connection with PC, no USB version. It can help to synchronize Outlook contacts/Calendar. Google "Android Manager-WIFI" and you shall find the free download from a manufacturer called Mobile Action. Hope this will help.
Yes, Android Manager WiFi is good, however, Android 2.2 is not complete supported this function now.
It might be under development.
Anyway, it is really good!

[SOLVED] Sync with Microsoft Outlook?

I've downloaded LG PC Suite and was going to sync my contacts and calendar with Outlook, but then I can't check the box where it says sync with Outlook. Anyone having the same problem?
It's never been a problem before, when I had the SGS or the HTC Desire HD.
Edit: It pops up with something saying that I don't have a email program that can sync with LG PC Suite. But I do have Outlook, and it's full of contacts and appointments that I need to sync.
Why don't you use the exchange sync with the email program (over wifi/data?)

No I don't have an Exchange server. I'm was thinking of just doing what I'm used to with HTC and Samsung, transfer my contacts and appointments from Outlook through PC Suite.
If i'am not mistaken than you can do the following.
First start LG PC suite
Then select the Contacts
In the left bottom corner you wil see Settings.
If you select this you can check and oncheck your outlook contacts and calendar.
hopefully this wil work

Yes, I see the checkbox, but it's not possible to click on it. And PC Suite says that I don't have a email program and that if I do have I need to connect it in standardprograms i the control panel.
Edit: By the way, I have Office Home & Business 2010. I've read something about this "click and run" option. Don't know what that is though. Maybe that's why LG PC Suite doesn't find Outlook?
Edit2: Solved! I supposed it was because the "click and run" option. I uninstalled it and then it worked
Hello VistaX, I have the same problem. PC Suite (v.4.3.17....) does not allow me to check the outlook sync option.
??? Where did you find and then uninstal the "click and run" option from ?
Was it somewhere in outlook or in PC Suite or in a phone ?
Advice, please.
I have solved my impossibility of syncing Outlook 2010 via LG PC Suite. by using MyPhomeExplorer - it is free on the Market.
LG PC Suite is forgotten - and uninstalled for ever.

There is also another, and as I think more elegant way:
sync Outlook with Google contacts and calendar.
There is a great tool available, called Gsyncit, which will do this. It costs 20$, but I think it is worth it. When configured properly, it automatically syncs Outlook with Google, wich will sync with you phone. You don't have to do anything manually anymore. You don't have to connect your phone to your PC everytime to sync your data and you can alway access your data from everywhere via browser, even if you don't have your phone by hand.
And now, I am not the programmer of this. I only think these are some of the most useful bucks, I have ever spent
You have free tools from google to sync google account and outlook.
I am using mobisynapse, it synches tasks, notes, calendar, contacts with Outlook and it works fine for me.
