hey guys , i have flashed several rom and i really like the look and feel of the darky's rom however i have really bad reception issue. sometimes at home where i usually have full bar i have no signals at all , or last night i was traveling to Oklahoma city with my friend who is running captivate on stock rom and he had full bar while i had no service at all ! any idea what i'm doing wrong ?
Usually better to ask in the darky thread , but anyways.
Did you flash back to stock and then upgrade to darkys or did you upgrade on top of a previous rom? If the latter, flash back to stock and reinstall.
If the former, try a different modem. I am not using the modem or kernel that came with darkys rom. I am using the kernel with speedmod and ugjl2 modem and so far I have great reception. Of course that isn't saying much as I always have great reception using my cell device (can't think of its name atm.)

You are running the I9000 version and not the captivate port. This alone wont cause problems if you have the reoriented kernel but the jpy modem you have will. I believe it does not have the 850 band. Flash a different modem from the modem thread in the development section and you should be good to go.
If im mistaken please forgive as its 7:30am and I still haven't slept yet.

thanks for your reply ! well yea i did one click odin to stock 2.1 and then flash this using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868262
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808286 flashing xcaliburinhand's latest reoriented kernel (odin version) with voodoo (I9000_reoriented_v2.3.0) so i'm not sure what is the issue here ... can you all guide me what modem should i use ? i was actually thinking about the same thing because i use to have a phone that didn't have 850 bad and i had this kind of issue ! so any help of how and where to get a modem to flash will be greatly appreciated !
I personally use JK4. A lot of people find that JL3 works better for them. Either way at the moment these are the top two modems available. Both can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9134296&postcount=2 and are flashable via CWM.
Also next time you are going to flash a version of Darky's just use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429 or any one that ytt3r starts because he ports them over to the captivate and you don't have to worry about messing with kernels or anything not working properly.
thanks i'll try it next week , since i'm running Axura 2.2 and so far i like it
I'm experiencing incredibly slow WIFI since upgrading a ROM and wondered if there is anything I can do about. 200k down - 20k up and pings anywhere from 600ms to 1500ms. It also fails and reconnects.
Could the problem be related to the modem that was installed with the ROM? I'm unsure is this effects wifi speed? 3G is fine and running as it normally would.
If it isn't the modem what is the nest way of diagnosing issues with WIFI? what should I try re-installing / overwriting?
It's one niggle in a very stable smooth ROM.
I'm running the following if this helps anyone;
Phone model is a GT-I9000
firmware - 2.3.4
baseband I9000XXJVQ
kernel - 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVQ-CL281085 Ficetobeast #darkcore_2.9.2_JVQ
Build Number - DarkyROM JVQ v10.2

try a different kernel as i do believe wifi drivers are contained within the kernel
Many thanks. Is the modem part of the Kernel then? Should I try the darkyrom site to see if they have a different kernal for their ROM?

no, the modem is seperate, some people say modem effects wifi, others refute this...from personal experience i have found quite big differences with kernels, so yes, try on darkys thread for suggestions for alternative kernels
Hi guys,
Just a quick simple question.
I would like to get some suggestions on what is the most stable (idiot proof) STOCK FIRMWARE people has been using?
I am not going to root so info is much appreciated.
Cheers

sadly all the stock firmwares have some small but irritating issues associated with them: as the firmwares develop iteratively, Samsung appears to keep experimenting with options and fixes, so most stock firmwares remain two steps forward and one step back from the last version -- some have more problems that others.
JVR has been the most successful (stable and official release), but in stock form it still had (has) some issues, which are usually effectively addressed by a custom rom or kernel or a different modem (depending on what issue vexes your phone).
JVT has now got a stable custom rom and kernel option also.
Cheers for the reply.
You mentioned jvt custom stable version.which one is this one?

Hi everybody, i've a question about installation of kernell and roms.
I must flash my phone with Ufficial Samsung Firmware before install new kernel and new rom?
And i have another question (i just used search but i didn't find anything) about differences on XWJW1 JVZ and go on.. which are differences?
Thank u
u dont have to instal an official firmware before instaling a custom kernel or rom. its obvious that if u didnt flashed the phone yet, it has an official rom on it jvs jvz jvt - depends on the location where you bought the phone (i think) i am kinda a new too
Ok thank u, then about jvz jvs jvt i should know the corrispective locations..
I think jvt is the most stable, works really well with latest semaphore kernel, waiting for next stable release, then hopefully ics will be worth a try

Hey there.... was just wondering... Is there really no way to solve the wifi bug in the 2.3.5+ firmwares ?
I did check other threads but ... changing router settings is not an option for me...
Tnx in advance
I never encountered this kind of problem, try flashing the new JVU, or ICS....
I was using JVT with Semaphore 1.8 for a long time and I never had this problem....
I had this problem when I moved from Froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbread 2.3.3. I solved it for me by flashing the modem (baseband) from Froyo 2.2.1 that I had been using before.
Now I am on 2.3.5, still with the Froyo modem.
Very stable.
I tryed every single version of android available for SGS ... and first time i encountered this problem was with the 2.3.5 firmware like many other SGS users ... thats why i`m asking for a solution ..
tnx anyway you 2
I fixed this by going into my router software and setting dhcp lease time from always to 2days.

This problem is a known bug in the 2.3.5 firmwares i had this bug too after uprading form 2.3.4 to 2.3.5. To solve the problem you have to change the DHCP leasetime in your router from "for ever" to any other value like 2 weeks(every other value except "for ever" will work). If you don't want to change your router settings you have to live with this bug or downgrading to 2.3.4(with JVR i didn't have this bug). As i know there isn't an other solution for this problem..
I've got this bug in 2.3.6 as well but like I said changing lease time fixed it.
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk
Yes that could be. I didn't try any of the 2.3.6 firmwares so I can not confirm this. But if he doesn't want to change anything in his router he could try the 2.3.4 JVR. With this Firmware the bug definitly does not appear
So at the end he has to decide if he wants the latest firmware with changin the routersettings or has an older firmware without changin the routersettings
tnx guys but that i know ... but as i said in my first post ... changing router settings is not an option .... since i have no access to the router at my work ...
That is why i wanted to know if there was any other chance to fix that other then flasing 2.3.4 or changing settings on the router
Possibly try fixed IP on your phone?
What if you flash latest XXJVU 2.3.6 rom and modem from JVR?
Should be worth a try since Froyo modem goes well with 2.3.5

Nothing works ... i get disconnects on every modem .. no matter FroYo or GB
Tnx for the effort all guess ill just have to stick with 2.3.4
Try to change kernel to Semaphore or Midnight.
The latest of those kernels run any version of GB.
