First of all, thanks for the devs' great work on getting ICS to the i9000. After trying 2 different kernels, I experience a persisting problem with the physical keys on the device. The home button is not working at all (no response in debug mode in recovery) and instead the back button is set to "home".
I've tried using buttonremapper (both versions) and managed to get the back button working properly, but the app doesn't seem to recognize the home button as even existing.
The mapping in both kernels was off, but in a different way (in one kernel, the volume up and down buttons were swapped, but not in the other).
I've tried re-flashing 3 times while wiping all data cache folders, but without luck. I must admit, I havn't read through the 550+ pages on the ROM threads, but using search I could not find an answer and the problem did not seem to be widely known.
Anyone out there who can enlighten me? Thanks in advance.
Are you sure you have an I9000? I've heard that some of the variants (captivate) have the physical buttons mapped differently

So all my physical keys on my xperia x1 including the Volume button, the ok button, the X panel button, the pick up call button, the end call button, the two silver buttons all don't work. None of the keys on my keyboard work either.
I've been trying to hard reset but every method I've found includes holding down the volume button (which doesnt work since that button is unresponsive). I've tried the 2 silver button method along with the poking the stylus in the hard reset hole in the back of the phone but that doesnt work either since the silver buttons are unresponsive.
So now I'm looking for the Clear_Storage thing I've been reading about but I can't find it so could someone please supply me with the directory I could find it in or any other solution you can think of to help me hard reset my phone so I can flash a new ROM.
BTW I've used Hard-SPL to flash roms before, it's just this last ROM from itje got all screwy and made the buttons stop working.
Thanks, Nik
Setting > System > Clear Storage.
Sometimes Itje takes it out of his ROMs, though. You can try reflashing by pc method if it's not there.
Yea I've checked and it's not in there, how would you do it by pc?
Is it that ruu executable that you run while it's synced? For some reason
that never actually worked with my comp which is why I always resorted to the SD Card Flash method, but I can't get into the Hard-SPL loader now cause of the button problem.
Does anyone know how to hard-reset without having to use the hardware buttons, because I really need to be able to use my phone again.
Need Help =/
Next to malfunctioning buttons, is the phone starting up?
What happens, if you plug a USB cable in? If you can select ActiveSync mode, then you could easily try to re-flash another ROM image - maybe the one you have been using was corruptly downloaded or something.
Or, if you get too much of strange behaviour like this, try a stock ROM first, then another custom ROM.
It boots up and works fine as long as I stick to using the touch screen and I can USB ActiveSync it too. I know some of the older ROMs used to have an exe you could run while in ActiveSync and it would auto install but most of the new ROMs assume you're using the SD Card Method so I can't find the PC Installer app.
Alright so I managed to isntall a new version of that Firestorm Rom (3.8 I think) and my hardware buttons still don't work.
Like from the buttons that Works:
Power Button
Camera Button
Optical Joypad (only the center square)
Stuff that doesn't work:
X-Panel Button
Ok Button
Volume Button (up, down, center)
Pick up Call
Hang Up Call
Two Silver Buttons (left and right)
Left and Ride on "D-Pad"
ALL KEYBOARD KEYS
What is their left to do if a new ROM doesn't fix the problem?
what are my options for getting this fixed?
my volume keys dont work, dont know why but sometimes theyre working and sometimes not.
i have the same issue. but my g-letter button works. and all other buttons make the volume go up one notch and then down again. further more when i go into settings and the menu that controls what the buttons it only says it has a left and a right button.
have u been able to figure something out??
began working again
after a month it suddenly started to work again! dont know why or how
is a hardware problem, with your flex.
i can tell you this is hardware problem.flash your phone with orginal spl and orginal rom and send sony ericson.i had same problem.they gave me new unit after 3 months fight good luck.
no doubt, it's hardware problem..
Agree with human75, flash your x1 with stockSPL n original ROM before u send it to SE. Do it via your PC.. Goodluck bro
Pushing the left and right softkey doenst work, also volume down and the power button has no effect. The system freezes after booting halfway, so no chance there.
Is there another way?
there are a lot of topics which describe this:
you can hold the 2 buttons down while pressing power, also (I recall, search...) the same 2 buttons while you press with the stylus into the depression that you will see when you take the battery cover off & look where the stylus sits).
You can also do Clear Storage, from the Settings menu.
Ok now actualy read what i have posted and realize that your post was a waste of our time...
ah, sorry.
So i guess this one is dead then..
As far as I know, there's no other way to hard reset. But there is another way to enter bootloader. Hold camera and power.
Thanks, that combination still works (didnt know about this). Lets see what i can do with that.
If you can boot into the OS, then you can use ActiveSync with the tool used to flash ROMs (can't think of it's name).
My Xperia doesn't like starting the bootloader either, but sometimes after a few dozen attempts with varied timings it will work.
Great i was able to get a diffrent ROM onto my phone (wich i wanted to do anyway).
I was a little afraid i'd still have to do the hardreset manually.
Standard key combinations are still not working..but i least i can make a hard reset via PC with that camera button method.
Thanks very much.
I recently flashed cm7 onto my Bell SGS I9000 and everything is running fantastic except for one issue.
My home button. I can use it to enter recovery and use it within clockwork. I can also use it to turn the screen on while the phone is on and within widgetlocker (to unlock the phone), beyond that it does nothing. I'm just wondering if this is a known issue (I know that the button breaking completely is an issue, but it seems that my button still works just not within the OS itself) and if there might be a fix?
I've tried changing the binding of it in adw settings but none of the functions work. The home button for all intents and purposes is now useless and It's kind of lame having to hit back 100 times just to exit a web browser.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I think you should reflash all beginning with jpu and repart... I dont know any other possibility!
I tried searching the forums but I couldn't find anything about my specific issue.
I have a samsung galaxy s 19000m
The problem is my soft keys, specifically the "go back" key or return key, lags. Sometimes when i press it the light shuts off and it just hangs for awhile and then finally works. The phone is frozen, as I can use the touchscreen just fine. It's like the button is "sticking" because when it freezes if I hit the home key it will take a screenshot.
I was using darkyrom 10.2.2 when it started to happen after a few months. I've recently installed simplicity 2.1 and it still has the problem with the keys, but installing cyanogen mod 7 I haven't had any problems with the key malfunctioning. However, I want to use simplicity 2.1, not cyanogen.
Any solutions as to why this is happening and how to fix it?
Hey, everyone. I have a question about the hardware keyboard of the Droid 4. First, let me familiarize you with my problem. It's the same problem I had on the Droid 3, and now on my Droid 4. If you press two keys simultaneously, neither register at all for input, or only one of the keys will register. Now, this doesn't apply to all keys; it seems that you can simultaneously press keys and have both register as long as the keys are a sufficient distance apart physically. I'm sure there's a reason for this that I'm not aware of, besides the keys just being far apart. Also, you CAN hold one key and THEN press another and have them both register properly, but I'm trying to instantly press two keys simultaneously and get the proper response.
Is this a hardware issue or a software issue? I wonder if it is a limitation of Gingerbread, so if anyone is running an ICS ROM, could you test this for me? If you press the W and Q keys at the exact same time, do you get both letters? Try it with two fingers just to make sure you're pressing them simultaneously. If anyone can help me or provide information or a solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
Oh, and in case you are wondering, I want to be able to press two keys at once in order to play games using the keyboard more effectively.
EDIT: I've been messing around with the keyboard, and it seems like any two buttons can be pressed simultaneously as long as they aren't right next to one another physically. To me this suggests that there's some kind of feature on the hardware keyboard that prevents the user from accidentally pressing a button next to the one they intended to press, since the keys are so small. If that's the case, is there some way to disable this feature? I'm just making educated guesses at this point, hoping it isn't a hardware issue. Patiently awaiting a response...
Seems to work for me, I'm on AOKP.
BTW, many keyboards have this issue, even laptops and desktops. However in this case, the issue seems to be software...
Thanks a lot for the response, podspi. I plan to wait for the official ICS rom from Moto, so can you direct me to any possible resources that might fix the issue on my current ROM? I'm running the latest official firmware from Motorola.
Just tried it out, stock doesn't allow you to hit two buttons at once. I honestly really would recommend installing safestrap, and getting an ICS build like AOKP if this is really important to you.
There might be a way to get this functionality under stock GB, but I sadly have no idea where to even start with that
