[Q] Weird Storage Problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have got a weird storage problem on my SGS. As shown in the picture attached, the total file(app+music+picture) in my phone should be around 5.5GB, then that's mean I should have 7.7GB of free space. But my phone shows that I've only got 1.57GB of free space..Can anyone explain this situation and what should I do to solve this issue? Thanks

Maybe that is only a calculation or display error?
You could try another app that can show SD card information, such as SD Tools.

thanks for your reply
But after checking through SD Tools, it also indicated that the available memory is about 1.6GB.. I guess it isn't a calculation or display error :'(
Do you think this issue is caused by wrong steps in flashing my previous or current ROM..?

Can anybody help me:'(

flashing doesn't affect the internal SD directly so i can't imagine that.
how about connecting your phone to your PC in mass storage mode, then check usage of SD card in windows with e.g. WinDirStat?

Really thanks for you help. After using WinDirStat, I found out there are few GB of Lost.dir.. they are the one which occupy my storage space, my storage is back to normal level after I deleted them.

you're welcome!

Allready tried to reformat it from the diamond? If this not work, perhaps this tool can help: http://flash-format.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
If both fails it is really dangerous to have a corrupt file-system on the diamond.

Thanks for the tip!
I traied to format whith the diamond but it says that its missing nand flash?
Take a look, if the internal storage has the same name as before. If not, perhaps you can rename it from the pc via active-sync. Good luck!
Nobody else with an idea about this? If nothing works for the threadstarter, this means: as soon as the FAT of your internal storage gets corrupt, (whyever) you have bricked your device more or less, (at least reduced the memory to a laughable tiny amount).
If this is the case, it can only be a very, very bad joke of HTC. It's like you have a big button in Windows Vista wich destroys your harddisk and nowhere is a warning sign or a safety-mechanism - that can't be true, or? (Its not a good example, cause you can exchange a PC's harddisk).
I think there are a lot of reasons, why a FAT can get corupted. (Tools on the PDA, sudden power-loss) and I'am wondering if no one here is a little bit concerned about this.
I've used the 2GB SD-card in my last PDA over a long period and during this, it was several times corrupted, so that I had to reformat it.
In the German PPC-Welt forum someone has posted the same issue, he returned his device, but this is only possible in the first two weeks, at least in Germany.
1. When you hard reset you have the option to format Internal Storage.
2. You have the option to format Internal Storage in Clear Storage in settings.

He can only format the storage, if it is found by the device. Obviousley this is not the case. Perhaps renaming helps. In this (German) thread, the same problem has been discussed: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=133023&highlight=fat32
Finaly ther user in this thread was able to format the storage but it was still not correctly recognized by his apps.
I hope the creator of this thread has more luck.

Internal memory is "locked"

Dear guys,
I have a very strange problem with my tab. The internal memory seems to be “read only” after restart.
Ai have this problem after I stopped a transfer between my laptop and the tab (a movie). The problem is that o can’t format internal memory, to fix any fat leaks. I try to wipe all, flash with every know firmware from h__p://w w w.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm, format internal memory from CWM. Every format command works (finish format ok),
I can used the space on tab (even accessing from laptop) but when I restart my tablet I have the old content.
My question is what the f__k is happened and who to fix it.
Many thanks in advance!
Any one??!?!?!
Any one??!?!?!
I can't help with the solution but fwiw I have exactly the same problem. Samsung's only suggestion was to send it in for repair but I'm hesitant to do that because all my data is still on the device. I've tried hard resetting it but everything comes back as soon as I reboot. I can remove or install application but they reset as soon as I reboot the Tab. I cannot make any kind of permanent changes to it.
It's very frustrating to say the least. Anyone have any suggestions for what would cause this? Mine is still a stock device with only a few market applications.
I also have some issues with internal "SDCARD" and that is that i cannot move anything onto it using andy SGT filemanagement system or the very bad KIES software. At the moment my external SD is full but the internal SD has like 14GB free and i cannot balance the storage!?!
If I move programs to SD will it me moved to internal or external SD and can I choose the setting?
The only way I managemd to move stuff into internal SD is to download files like films and music via DLNA over WiFi - those files are saved correctly were I want it...
any advise would be appreciated...
So this means that i can't repair my tablet?
I can't find any solution for this problem. and i believe that we are not the only one with this problem.
I send it to service... they replaced main board...
but canceled my warranty reason: unauthorized software intervention - root access
So... watch out for this. factory reset you tablet or mobile (if possible... in my case was not possible)
Thank you for your support.
I have the same
I have the same exact problem ,, anyone can help plz ??
Hi:
I´ve just discovered this forum. Hello...
Just the same problem here and Samsung doesn´t repair my device. Can you give me any help?
Regards
This is exactly the same problem I've encountered. Moments AFTER rooting the thing.
Which leads me to believe any and all warranty question is well out of the window.
Has anyone encountered a solution as yet?
I appreciate the posts above are a few months old so I'm hoping some sort of resolution has been found!
Same problem here too
Internal mem seems fine and you can delete things, but after reboot nothing is remembered.
Gave it to service (non samsung/carrier), They said that the p1000 is known for having bad internal memory problems.
They partitioned my 8GB external sd card and installed a Chinese MIUI rom 4.0.4 that is supposed to support installation and running from external SD mem.
The problem is they didn't remove the internal memory - so all old apps still exist there and can' t be removed (it probably mounts the internal mem and thinks it can write to it - but in practice nothing is written). So when i go to market and try to DL an app it says no memory left on device because it tries to put it on the internal mem and not the external.
Also, after reboot all the account setup wizard screen settings are forgotten and you need to redefine everything again.
I saw a thread on XDA that explains you need to remove the internal SD mem physically (and explains how to do it) but i am a little afraid to do it...
Anyone else try this ?
Also strange you need to change the whole MB for a faulty memory, why can't the internal mem just be replaced ?
Hi, please keep all question/help related threads in the Q&A section only. Thank You.

[Q] Help! Internal SD Write Protection / Read Only

I have a tricky problem with the internal storage (Internal SD Card).
No changes are possible to perform. No format, wipe or whatever worked.
For instance, after every boot-up the uninstalled apps are back, no pictures can be taken by the camera and so forth...
I found other people with the same problem, so I'm certainly not the only one with this problem.
Here I found people with the same Problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941139
And here a possible solution
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875042
Unfortunately, I did not find the mentioned Zip file to cure my sweet Galaxy S [running 2.3.5 XXJVT].
Does anybody know a solution?
Thanks!

[Q] mmcblk0 afterfix

Hi,
After having problems with the internal memory of the "SGS", follow the only tutorial that worked for my case (since the phone is out of warranty), I created two partitions on the external SD card and the phone will recognize them as internal partitions NAND, the phone works and everything, but no disk space, thus making it impossible to use various programs and use the camera among other things.
I wonder if there is a way of SGS recognize a possible third partition of the SD as usable space.
Perhaps swapping the mount-points? Anyone have ideas?
SOLVED! Close / Delete please! Ty
Post the answer so someone with a similar issue has the solution.

[Q] [help] access internal memory as mass storage?

Hi all!
after lots of manipulations of my device, I've remarked that I lost some photos stored in the internal memory of the phone. Especially one photo is important for me...
The point is that I can not run any tool to recover deleted files on the internal memory, as it is not seen as a mass storage.
So... Is there any way to make the internal seen as a USB mass storage by my PC??
Thanks for your help.

Try this.
If that doesn't work, read here.
Well I already tried hexamob, but as the internal memory is not in mass storage state, it's impossible to scan...
Your other solution may work, but seems very very difficult...

Get the pro version for Hexamob & perform total recovery.
If you can't get the files you want, request a refund immediately, that's about all I can think of.
99% of the time Hexamob works.
If not, then the other method is your only option.
Two links you could try...

I'm curious to see if this works!
It would be quite impossible since Windows doesn't recognize ext4 partitions, but it's not my area of expertise anyway.
The pro version of hexamob acts weird... I don't know if it see well my internal memory... I cannot choose where to scan, and just 2 locations to save datas...
Gonna give a look to the other links, thanks!
I give up... Too bad, I will never see that picture of my children anymore... I'm a bit disapointed, but nothing works...
