[Solved] [Q] Alfs kernel + GingerDX => No app2sd ext4 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I have one question about problem in Alfs kernel. When I flash update-rom-chargemon+vold-AlfsKernel.zip, I can't install apps to my ext4 partition. When I don't flash it, all apps go to ext4, but can't connect phone to PC.
Another Q: When I don't flash it, apps go to ext4, but application start slower (I have only class 2 card and in kernel forum is message about it). But in MiniCM+nAa kernel it works very fast. I need it only because my internal memory run out of space when I don't use ext4. Is there any difference between this kernels in this case?
Thanks for your answers.

Ok. Problem solved with new chargemon in Kerlnel development thread.
Maybe, if it is possible, we can mount only fat partition when connected to PC, instead of mounting both fat and ext.
But thanks for fix!

Help With device

Hello,
Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
Stock DDKQ8
Im having problems with Link2SD.
I have a EXT-4 Format partioned on my sd card, But when i recreate Mount scripts to EXT4 It will reboot and say mount warning?
So basically its telling me that it cant be read at boot.. Whats the problem?
Ive basicly Switched to Custom Roms to stock roms and still countering the same problem.
The script file "05mountsd" Does not exist neither.
I have flashed every rom with CF-Root B84
With a ext partion on my sd card (EXT4)
Tried to Creat Mount scripts and still counter the Mount Warning.
What is the problem seriously?
Ive deleted the partions on my sd card over and over to make it work but still failing.
Bump Please?
Ext3
sent from.......
Ive tried all ext's bud

Why my ACE does not mount SD-EXT at boot??

Hi there,
I have a Galaxy ACE with Stock KTM Rom , CWM5 , and rooted with CFRoot b83 (b84+b84fix does not work on my KTM rom...dont know why)
I partitioned my 4Gb SD with CWM: 512 for Ext , 0 for Swap and rest for Fat32
I have even tried to format with Mini Partition Tool: Fat32 Primary and EXT2 or EXT3 Primary (4kb cluster size)
I can mount /sd-ext on recovery , even format it, etc.
But.. I have many problems with **2SD scripts, and I think that I found the reason: SD-Ext is not mounted.
I have installed Terminal Emulator, and I get this:
# mount | grep sd-ext -> nothing happens (it should show information)
# df -> /sd-ext is not shown
What can I do??
I know that Link2sd app works with Fat32 + Fat32 partitioned cards, but I need sd-ext to work , so Link2Sd is not a solution for me.
THANKS A LOT!!
You should repartition your sd-ext with cwm...it will auto partition it into ext4...dta2sd works with that...since you are using cf-root...your have a tweaks manager right?try to enable auto start dta2sd at boot...for a sd card, the one for general storage should b in FAT32, sd-ext should be in ext4 (although certaim scripts can work with other formats, but this is working better and faster, so why not?)...Hope it helps...

I have tried to make the repartition with CWM , into EXT4, and I have enabled auto start dta2sd at boot ...
But sd-ext is still not there.
I think that CFRoot is not enabling init.d support on my stock Rom.
Thanks for your reply..
Any suggestion will be welcomed!!

[Q] Apps, DalvikCache AND app data to SD on Stock ROM?

On the stock GB ROM, Link2SD requires a FAT32 partition to move the App and DalvikCache to the SD.
EDIT: Actually requires FAT32 OR EXT2 for stock...
Titanium backup requires an ext2/3/4 partition to use the Data2SD feature.
Is it possible to do both of these on a stock rom? Or use some other method to get the App, DalvikCache and app data to the SD without flashing another ROM?
I will be doing this for 3 of my family's phones and would much prefer to not have to flash ROMS and them have to put in extra effort afterwards.
I promise I've searched so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, the closest I could find was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605006 which didn't answer the question...
Thanks in advance!
Tim
I have created two partitions, one FAT32 and one EXT2 using MiniTool Partition Wizard
Link2SD is correctly setup and working.
Titanium Backup has this to say:
The supported mount points for the ext2/3/4 partition are:
/system/sd/ (“classic” sd-ext)
/sd-ext/ (“Cyanogen” sd-ext)
/data/sd/ (“MIUI” sd-ext)
However none of these mount points are present (it appears to mount under /data/sdext2/) so I'm unable to use the Data2SD functionality as yet.
So the question now becomes, can I create multiple mount points for a single EXT2 partition on a Stock ROM (ideally easily!).
Install a custom kernel with init.d support.
Cf-root is the most common since it's based on stock, and preserves baseband.
After that, there's many choices:
-link2sd as you've beeb using
-cronmod or amarullz scripts (int2ext+) which mount sd partition as extention to internal memory (every app on internal gets installed to the partition).
-s2e has the option to also move data to the partition.
Keep in mind that having data on the partition will lower performance and smoothness as compared to having data on internal.

Thanks for the advice.
I have a class 10 card that I was hoping would help mitigate the problem, am I just being naive?
I was hoping I'd be able to avoid a custom Kernel (haven't researched them enough yet)
I will try and find an S5830 Stock + init.d kernel tomorrow and see how that goes, I'm still planning on Titanium Backup to do the Data2SD.
Does this init.d script mount the partition somewhere that Titanium Backup can get hold of it then?

I really can't say about titanium backups' data2sd function since i've never used it before.
The init.d script (i found cronmods' int2ext to be the most convenient) mounts the sd partition as part of /data. When making backups of apps+data titanium backup had 0 problems finding and backing up all apps. The problem might arise if the data2sd function tries to move /data (in which the partition is already mounted) to the partition.
Someone in the forum might know more details. You can always make a nandroid backup and see what happens. Good luk.

[Q] (Q) X8 can´t recognize SD partition

I asked this before, but I think no one understand me...
When I install a ROM for my X8 (stocke kernel) always skip the "SD-EXT format"(except in Ginger DX recovery) , , some ROM´s "auto-install" all my apps, but other doesnt recognize the SD-EXT partition... WHY this is happpening ?
maybe , according to its format, they don't have support for ext2, 3, or 4.
It might happen.
Using partition minitool from computer will ease transorming sd-ext into FAT32 or ext2,3,4.
Cheers,

[Q] Which CWM version for ext4 fomat, for Cooper?

I am currently using CWM 5.0.2.6 as it is universally suggested the appropriate for Galaxy Cooper.
The problem is that this version can only format the sd card up to ext3, and not ext4.
I want to try the Ulimatum rom with all its goodies and I need ext4 format in partition for Swapall. My sd card is super fast class 10 u3.
I have read that in many cases 6.x.x.x versions end up in blue screens or fail to reboot.
Although I use minitool for partions, when installing a new rom at some point devs ask to format memory before installation, so even if it was originally in ext4 it reverts back to ext3 after the CWM format with the 5.0.2.6 version.
Which version I can safely use for ext4?

You can use the ext4 format with CWM without problems, CWM's version is NOT important, but it can't create this typ of partitions, so you need ypur PC to create an ext4 partition (Gparted, Minitool partiton magic...)
If you want to flash The Ultimatum Rom or another CM7 based ROM you must use a CWM 5.x based recovery.
Use CWM 6.x just for CM11
To use ext4 format >>> all versions are safe
To flash the Ultimatum ROM >>> CWM 5.x
