Hey,
Having a bit of trouble and didn't know who to ask, figured there are numerous people here who would know this... I wanted to set up a personal email address through Google using a personal domain.
Do I need web hosting along with this or would I just need to just buy a domain in order to set up some email addresses?
If so, can someone provide some web hosting options that would work to set up about 5-10 addresses with about 3-5 Gb/ea?

Free exchange mail service for your pocket pc with Outlook Web Access
I run an exchange server and I am welcoming pocketpc users that are in need of an exchange account to activesync with. This service also offers Direct Push for those of you that have have this on your PocketPC.
Its totally free and has outlook web access, to sign-up simply visit http://www.port88.org/signup.php and I'll set you up.
If you are intrested in other services or want more information, check out http://www.port88.org
This is something I do in my spare time for fun, so it may take me 24 hours before I get you set up. But being a Wizard/MDA user myself, I have found this to be a great tool.
Obviously all this cost money, and lots of it. I have had a few people donate to the cause which has been a great help. But some users ask me for special features that I normally would not offer to a basic user. Well the solution is simple, if more people donate (even a small ammount) I will be able to upgrade the server with more space and better processing power, and in turn more services will be free for everyone to use.
So if you like the service and feel that you can contribute, please send paypal payments to [email protected]
If you think you can donate in other ways (I currently looking for a forum site to be set up), please send me an email!
Keep our community growing, join today!
Thank you for your patience.

i need someone to set up a form that takes the persons first and last name, origin (country and state) prefered username and dob and then a dropdown box with the type of service they want. then that would post to a DB (mysql) using PHP and also send me and email with the info as well as a confirmation email to the person sending the request.
so do you think you could help me out??
Thanks!
Wanted to thank everyone that has donated, I am close to getting the RCP over HTTP working so we can all use out desktop outlook as well as OWA with our mobile devices.

Are you still offering this service?
If you are interested in using Exchange 2007 for your mobile device, I have one available. It is for my consulting business and I am only using 1 of the 100 CAL's that are installed. For a small donation, I will let honest people use it. I would require the following info.
First Name:
Last Name or Initial:
E-Mail address requested: [email protected]
Alias: [email protected]
Password: (must contain letters, numbers and special characters)
The server itself is in a datacenter with reduntant power and network.
It has a UCC cert and autodiscover services are working perfect.
Since I use it for my business the uptime will be in at least the 4 nines.
Just send me a PM if interested.
While this sounds great, there are some concerns that I would have as outlined below. None of this is personal btw.
a.) Backups, how would this be handled
b.) Security, how do I know as an admin your not attaching to mailboxes or journaling them and reading through private information?
c.) Anti Virus, how is the server protected to keep my data safe
d.) Anti Spam, this is easy since you can implement the built in Anti Spam services on a Hub Transport server. However how would an end user control this?
e.) SSL Certificate is cheap through Go Daddy, you could offset this cost with your user donations. That way there is no need to import an self signed cert.
f.) Up time, where is the server located? in a Data Center or your garage?
g.) domains, would you support users as [email protected] or would you allow users to point their MX records at your IP while adding smtp aliases to the AD user accounts?
I'm sure there are others, and again this is in no way a personal attack as I think offering this for little cost is a very nice thing to offer. It however could wind up being a hand full if enough users decide to accept.

I am thinking about opening up my exchange 2007 server to users here that would be interested in the service. after trying places like mail2web and other types of hosting services, i realized i could do the same thing for myself and have total control. trouble is, now i have this massive server to sync my device all by itself...
if anyone would be insterested in syncing with an exchange 2007 server, let me know. I wanted to get some initial feedback from users to see if it was even worth it.
I was thinking of a donation type system to offset the licensing cost...(which i get for dirt cheap since I can piggy back off one of major customers...it is about $16 per user...)
i could offer active sync, rpc over http and owa...
i do not want to buy a third party cert, so my microsoft issued cert would need to be installed on your device (it means you have to double click on a .cer file)
i did not configure autodiscovery services, so rpc over http would need to be configured manually. (very simple)
i could also offer outlook 2007 for a very small fee (since i did not configure rpc over http for outlook 2003 use)
just send me an email and tell me if you are interested. I am thinking if I get enough people, i will open it up for the great people here at xda forums..

all very good questions and i will answer them as best as possible.
a.) the backups are handled at the disk layer, they are mirrored. If corruption would occur, the server would get rebuilt. as a very cheap service offering, you get what you pay for. That said, since i personally use this server and my customers contact me via it, if it goes down, i may not get paid. therefore, its availbilty is very important.
b.) you don't, but i won't
c.) trend micro does it on the server, your desktop client would do the rest.
d.) the exchange server spam level is set to level 5. I have never had a false postitive
e.) there is a UCC cert.
f.) datacenter. also, see answer a. uptime = pay to me.
g.) i would allow default from address to be what ever you wanted. i will not host your personal domain. That is another type of service i am not offering.
i have now installed a UCC cert and autodiscovery is working perfectly.
anyone insterested just send me the following info;
First Name:
Last Name or Initial:
E-Mail address requested: [email protected]
Alias: [email protected]
Password: (must contain letters, numbers and special characters)
I only ask for a small donation. anything helps. thanks.
You could also try www.nuevasync.com with Google Calendar / Contacts, and use IMAP for email. It's isn't push, but works pretty well nonetheless. Plus, you don't have to administer it yourself.
Hi All,
First time poster here. I find these forums to be a great resource and I'm hoping someone can shed light on this seemingly basic understanding issue.
It seems to me there are four different methods of accessing e-mail (five if you count internet) on my stock Samsung Captivate. I've listed them below.
Corporate Account
Google Account
Default Android E-mail Client
Mail App
Internet
How does one go about choosing which method to use? Which ones allow push versus pull? I have multiple e-mail addresses, but not sure which method to utilize to set each one up. I am not yet interested in merging them all in one gmail account.
Is the Google Account the same as using the Gmail App?
What are the max number of Google accounts you can set up. I have two on my phone and am running into issues setting up the third.
Is yahoo capable of being setup on the Corporate account? I found settings to set up Gmail this way. Just wondering if I can do the same for yahoo.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Beuller....
Hi guys, I've tried countless times today to setup my university email on the phone to no success.
I've followed the instructions on "how to setup email" on the microsoft windows phone 7 site and get as far as "Step 9" and getting to the "advanced" screen but it wont let me continue without entering something in the "domain" box, which is weird since the email account doesn't require one.
I tried randomly typing something into the domain box just to be able to continue but in the end it still does not work.
Anyone else have this issue, or know how to solve it?
I've been able to set up both Live and Gmail accounts easily, and by looking on google everyone else seems to have been able to set up their exchange accounts successfully
Thanks!
The domain would be the last part of your email address.
ie [email protected]
whatever.com is the domain
my guess as to why they don't auto-populate based on the address would be that most companies use a different "internal" domain that is different than the public domain used for the email address.
since you should not be a member of the internal domain of your school, use the public domain.

Thanks for the reply teoami, I did as you said and it listed the email as one of the accounts on the phone, however when I tried accessing it it says " attention required, outlook information is incorrect" and consequently is not able to sync. Any other ideas?
Just tried contacting O2 technical team but they just didn't have a clue, I guess this is a problem being an early adopter, when you get a problem there's not many people out there that have a solution sigh...
ignore me failure reading...
I'm assuming the uni runs a windows network? Login to one of the uni PC's and open system information (right click my computer and select properties), click on Computer name, the domain behind the computer name will probably be the one you need, but you could just ask the IT admin about the domain / server settings or check the intranet as settings are usually provided there.
domain for activesync exchange
Well I found that when you leave the domain blank you click Sign in and you then get the option to click advanced
The Server field is then visible (it was not visible before)
so long as you know the server you are using for your e-mail provider you should get it to work fine.
ie. hotmail uses m.hotmail.com
University email server settings

I have the cure bud...most universities use an offsite outlook server. In the domain field enter m.outlook.com it should sync everything for you, including your contacts, tasks, emails, and calendar. Although you may not use all these functions, your university's mail should be able to use outlook online.
Let me know if this worked for you
oh...one more thing, if all else fails, when you are on a pc and viewing your email hover the mouse over your "inbox". look at the bottom of your browser, the server will pop up as you hover.
Hey guys I finally SOLVED IT!! turns out it was kind of a false alarm and that the details I entered for "server" and "domain" were simply incorrect . Just so that anyone else from a uk uni ever has the same problem.... Server was "webmail.(university name).ac.uk" and domain was "(university's intials)NET". Everything synced perfectly after that. If in doubt like frontieruk suggested contact your company/uni IT department as I did.
Thank you for everyone's input!
At first on the Note I used the Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail apps to get my emails rather than use the stock email program. I tried today to set up my yahoo email, made sure it was configured online for pop3 access yet on the Note when I go through set up and enter the email address and password I get an error saying incorrect email address or password which cannot be as they are correct.
Any ideas why this is happening?
other than making sure that you are typing the email address and password correctly.... i really do not have any argument to make. different yahoo address like .co.uk use different pop3 and smtp address. regular users need to subscribe to plus services.
Yes yahoo pop access is paid service, you need to subscribe plus service.
Juast try to use imap service in stock email application, not sure but may work. If you are not happy with yahoo mail appl, find seven 7.54 apk on xda, i have uploaded few time back, one of good n real push support for yahoo.
