I found a G1 for sale on craigslist and I was curious to see if you think the problem it has is hardware or software related. Follows is the description...(caps was in the original post so please forgive me)
BECAUSE IT WILL BE WORKING FINE AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOU GO TO CLOSE THE PHONE QUICKLY THE SCREEN WILL FADE BLACK AND IT MUST BE TURNED OFF AND ON AGAIN TO GET THE SCREEN BACK ON
Does anyone think this is fixable?
They are asking $100 for it.
Thanks everyone!
Personally, I would stay away from it. I have routinely found deals for G1's on ebay for between $120 and $140 that have less wrong with them than some mystery screen problem. My spare G1 I got on ebay for $72 with free shipping and it just has a cracked screen. I am sure you can find a better deal if you are patient and look elsewhere other than CL. Good luck

The problem MAY be software related but im sure that most people who post such ad's are leaving out important details (i.e it started doing that after he dropped in his bathtub )
Hi everybody,
Today I started the barcode scanner app, it showd the picture from the camera for 1 second and suddenly became broken in a way that it no longer shows the picture but a pink "snow" or "lines" kinda like you get on the tv when you lose a signal.
It wasn't just the barcode scanner though, it was also the original camera app that showed the same affect.
I tried a few restarts and even returned to an earlier nand backup I did this morning.
But, non of it helped.
I have CM 7.1 .
Bought it almost 2 years ago, but still not ready to let go, even if some things are starting to be slow.
I recently also changed the max clock speed through CM settings to 1113MHZ so that things would go smoother.
Is there anything to do to fix this besides replacing the sensor?
If not, is it the sensor that is the problem here? Do you think I can still find that part on ebay or something?
Thanks
Update:
Here's a picture of what the camera app shows:

What phone do you have?
My old phone (HTC EVO, no 3D) had the same problem. The screen went pink in whatever camera app I was using. You might want to wait a few days and see if it fixes itself. Otherwise I think you should visit the shop where you bought it.
Depending on the cost, you should decide if you want to fix it yourself. (with the risk of losing warranty and not fixing anything at all.)
I bought it 2 years ago at a small shop, they gave me an already rooted phone with 1 year warranty.
Anyway, I already voided whatever I could with rooting, flashing roms and recoveries and changing the back covers of the phone
It's the europe (GSM) version of the nexus one. I think the same one you would get from buying directly from google.
btw, I posted a link in the orginal post to a picture that will show how it looks.
Sorry, false alarm.
Just got the battery out and back in and that solved the problem.
Thanks for your help though
Ah. Good to hear that!

I'm a noob and this is my thread so don't get hard on me for now.
The day before yesterday I dropped my S plus, like I did many times before, but this time after I got my specs on there was a nasty crack(s), not a scratch (whats the difference?), on the screen. I can upload a pic if you want it, but then you must have no imagination in the first place. Well that's history for now, but I want advice on how to get it back into shape the fastest cheapest way.
After researching in Google (I know its a search engine not a library) I came to know that there was something called a digitilizer and the display (forget the screen). My phone's symptoms are that everything is fine, its detecting touch and the display has no patches at all, its just the damn glass is cracked.
So how to get it replaced?
EDIT; Anyone?

Hello everyone,
I need some help. I live in Dubai and I'm going to buy a Z1 in the coming days. My problem is - I want to know how to tell straight away whether my phone is the one with a defective yellowish tint or a normal brilliant sony display. Im more or less a noob and reading through the threads here I haven't been able to ascertain this and instead have been left quite confused.
I was hoping one of the experts on here could help me come up with a quick way (e.g. turning it on and checking for a setting or firmware etc.) or even just turning it on and looking for something in particular. This is something I can quickly do in the retail outlet without waiting till I get home and then coming back and fighting with the store (as is commonplace in the middle east haha). I had the Z before and now I'm using a horrible horrible BB Z10 and the only thing stopping me from walking into a store and picking up the Z1 is this!
Thanks in advance.
Hello!
You can go to setting > about device > diagnostics > test device > scree and see if I is white or yellowish, if you ware not sure about it, go to the same place on the phone showed for testing and compare them.
Regards,

Checked it one month ago in Sony Store at Dubai Mall (right ahead when You come from rail-station "Dubai Mall" entering the mall). Compared exhibit devices with my Z1: all the same brilliant screens ............... people were quite nice there, shouldn´t be a problem to check Your purchased device: if screen is pure white and sharp under the illumination at Dubai Mall Your device is okay. Maybe You can ask them to let You check against a Galaxy Note in the store opposite to Sony´s when You leave a full deposite ...............
Greetings ...............
Lolol lots of people who had white screens noticed yellow hue after fw change... IMHO all screen are the same, just need to adjust colors....

Hi, after the March update, I found my Galaxy Note 9 screen turned yellow..
I turned off the screen, unlocked the screen and the screen back to normal..but the yellow screen will reappear...
Some people say it's a hardware problem and replace their LCD, but some people assume that Samsung technicians don't want to get dizzy and just say "you have to replace the LCD"
There is someone who brought this to the Samsung center, the technician just looked without checking further and said "the LCD has been broken" and he fixed it via safe mode (IDK the detail)
And some people solve this problem with FW flash via Odin..
I'm curious, do custom ROM users experience yellow screen too? is this really a hardware problem?
Thanks, and sorry for bad English

have we made a petition?
Because it's not only Galaxy Note 9, but also Note 8, S7, S9..
Do all Samsung flagship problems with hardware?
But my friend's Galaxy Note FE and Note 8 with OneUI ver 1 is fine

Those affected should. Samsung is greedy to force for hardware replacement instead of fixing their software. Samsung hardwares are expensive. In my country screen replacement for note 9 is about half of the second hand value of this phone.
Have you tried wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode?

Note 9 yellowish scree
hi I've faced the yellowish screen problem recently. My phone is 1 year and 7 months old. I visited samsung service center in my city in India. 1st they told me it was your fault that because of your mishandling this has happened and some brainless person told me to go for replacement which cost around 21000 rs(300$) in India. But then i asked them to find any dent, crack or even a scratch on body or glass if its mishandling. Then i showed them this article. https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-march-2020-security-update-broken-screen/
Manager head technician accepted the fact that this wasn't my fault any kept phone with him. After 20-25 days now i have my phone with screen replaced without giving a single penny. Samsung is such greedy company that pushes such faulty updates and loot consumers like they haven't looted us enough with such heavy priced phones.

Which city ?.
Because in Bangalore they kept for my phone for a week and returned it without doing anything.
Same issue not a single scratch, dent or bump. Mint phone. But Audio Dead.
They told me to my face and in writing that no Note 9 users have reported any problems after the update.
I told them to visit XDA and their own company community pages but they ignored me.
They demanded that the only way they would help is if I paid 26500 to replace the board. ANd even that would take weeks. Due to present situation.
Another guy in another city was quoted 18K for his Note 9 main board. So it seems they can charge what they want.
There is no fixed rate. They cant even match the rates on their own web site.
Lets just say you got very lucky or you have good contacts.

I am in Surat. I didn't have any contacts in Samsung service center. I went there and requested to look upon my problem. 1st the illiterate girl at the desk ignored me but when the manager/chief engineer came to know about the problem he peacefully heard me. I used my "Being A Doctor trump card" to further make him believe that i was no joking and lying. And ultimately I was lucky. Though i was very much prepared to go in consumer court if that failed.
They just returned my phone and told me to come back when I was willing to pay 26500 for a new board.
I have started a new Face Book Page Called Samsung India worst company.
Come join it

did not work! can you give more information !?
Looks weird but its working for me, tap to switch on always on display then open the phone with fingerprint or other methods, screen becomes normal !!
So I opted to fix my own phone.
WHat I found was that the over heating had cause some microscopic balls of lead to have melted during the over heating and these were all over the main board. I suspect some got under the Amplifer 98512 IC. So I purchased the part form china for 2$. Purchased a microscope and fix it myself.
I also cleaned the main board in ultrasonic machine to make sure all the small balls were dislodged. Its been over a week and my phone is working fine.
I suspect if you try all the software options and nothing works. Open the back cover and look for these tiny balls. If you see them clean the board and put it back it may start working. If it has shorted something off course you will see the damage. May times just a clean and re-seating the flex cable solves the problem.
I wonder if Samsung return your old board if they charge you for a new one.
Hey, download this app PWMfree by going to this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78953726&postcount=48 this will resolve your problem. Once downloaded scroll down then allow access, that's it. I hope this help.
Hi , i also have a screen problem with my Galaxy Note 9 Edge but i don't know if it is the same as the above problems. The problem started when i turned on the "always display on" option and set the clock to orange. I don't know if this is a coincidence but as soon as i turned that option 2/3s of my screen turned to orange as seen on the attached picture. I tried reverting the options but with no luck. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Did i messed some some settings? I have the latest update installed.
Finally yellow screen fixed in 13 July 2021 update
From what I have heard if you use the gesture navigations instead of the on-screen button navigation method. You should not experience the green screen issue.

If it's an LCD display they don't just turn yellow.
Flash it back to the firmware it was running on.
Rule #1 if the phone is running fast and stable, leave it be.
