Hi,
My phone screen is broken, its all blank, i cant control or see whats going on the device.
I want to restore all my contacts from the phone although i dont have anything synced with my live.com email (checked there and no contacts)
Anyway i can do that ? maybe ssh to the device ? maybe the contacts are stored on the SD memory and i can somehow access and restore them ?
Any help is much appreciated.
Try connecting your phone to your pc and see if you can access your internal memory. My HD2 I used total comander and could access everything including my sim I believe can't remember. Total comander works on your pc I believe.lol now I'm not sure, but some kind of file explorer should work otherwise try taking your sim card out and putting it in another phone and see if your contacts are still there. HD7 doesn't utilize my contacts from tmo?
Should be auto synced unless you disengaged it.
Next phone dl lookout .... It's a great app and free. Hope this helps good luck dude.

The Sim did not contain all of my contacts. I will try the total commander and see if i can get anything.
Total Commander did not show my device.
I also followed a tutorial on how to make my phone show in my computer And now i can see my device as portable media player in my computer but i cant access it since the device is locked with a key and the screen is broken.
Any other ideas ? i really need help, i also have a Linux machine if that can provide some other methods you can think of.

Suddenly my note gave me an error message that my sd card is being used as mass storage & so data cannot be accessed. Well rebooted the phone to discover alot of files do not exist! Deleted?!!!?
Seems all deletes files are data files related to applications on the phone memory itself but not the applications or its settings!
Note: All files on the movable 16GB memory card are not deletes.
Examples for the files have been deleted:
Recently captured pics & vids.
Scanned documents by Camscanner application.
Scanned business cards by Camcard application.
SMemo files but not the folder structure I created.
SPB Wallet source file.
All WhatsApp downloaded pics was available in WhatsApp pictures folder.
All downloaded books to Kobo book & Mantano reader.
Please help as I am getting crazy with the amount of data I lost suddenly especially that I do not have any explanation to what has happened to my phone in order avoid it again in future!

Well now, that is a poor situation and atleast some of those files will not be possible to get back. Most of them possibly can, just as long as you do not write ANYTHING more on the SD card, not even SMS.
You could root the phone, take a .tar.bz2 image of the SD card partition on the external SD, copy the archive to your desktop and use Linux in a virtual machine to rescue the files from there -- the tool is called magicrescue.
Well this seems very complicates for me especially what's related to lunix & the virtual machine )) Anyway! Do you have any idea what might have caused this silly sudden problem so as for me to avoid? Is this common & subject to repeat? Is my device has any problem that I need to fix?

Yes, it is somewhat time-consuming atleast.

I know what caused the files to disappear; there was clearly filesystem corruption after improper shutdown and Android repaired it by removing affected files, but I do not know what caused your issue to begin with. Possibly something you've installed on the phone. In any case and just to be safe it, might be a good idea to backup everything, do a full factory reset and check you are running the latest firmware available.
Your explanation does make sense to me as I remembered that has happened just after I uninstalled the sslauncher application! But I also remember that the uninstallation has completed successfully with no problem!
Anyway, thank you for the valuable advice to backup & restore, I will make sure to do it today! Good day

I am having a problem with transferring photos from my pc to my phone.
No matter what file I try to transfer them to. They won't be recognized. Like they don't even exist.
I try to transfer them again to the same file to see if maybe it did not work but it says they are there. But when I go to check my gallery, there is no sign of them.
What is going on? Do I have a virus? Can anyone help?
Thanks.

i hate the built-in gallery try to download quickpic (alot of option + fast )
or try to clear cache
OK so that helped with updating my contact pictures list, but I originally wanted to update my wallpaper. I use multi picture live wallpaper. And like I said any new picture I put onto my phone is just not recognized.
I'm just directly put my photos under a folder created by myself in the internal storage.

I have actually done that, but alas did not make a difference. If it makes any difference. I notice that whenever I either plug in my phone into my pc and/or move photos around the "Media Scanner Running" icon notifies me on and off for about 5 minutes even after I have finished. And it as well tends to randomly close any app and the app drawer when I open it.
OK just replying to myself but haha I am becoming more and more frustrated with this. It is also affecting my music as well. I transfer the music files from my pc to my phone and they are only in "My Files" app section. Not found in any of my music players.
Now I have recently downloaded a few apps for customization. Such as ADW Launcher EX, Widget locker, and a few others.
Would any of those somehow change things in my phone. I did pay for them.
Make sure there isn't a .nomedia hidden file in the directory where you placed your picture. Additionally unless you use a media scanning app to force media scan, you will need to restart your phone.

I think I am going to assume there is something wrong with my media scanner on my phone. It is always running and constantly popping up saying it is running, then force closing anything I have open.
I just tried to transfer files from my PC (Win7) via USB MTP onto my Nexus7 which seemed to work as usual. When I tried to locate them on the tablet, I noticed that the complete /sdcard folder is still there, but empty. Also the /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/emulated.
This actually happend the second time, but the first time I just had updated to 4.2.1 and I thought I must've missed some instructions about backing up the files first, so I (falsely) assumed it was my error.
The device is the 16gb wifi only version running current android 4.2, it's been rooted after purchase in summer using Nexus Root Toolkit 1.5.3. I just use the usual popular play store apps like nova launcher, total commander, firefox and stuff, nothing special.
I couldn't find anyone on the internet with a similar issue, so I put this here.
//edit1: I have only one user set up: me alias the owner.
Hi have a look at your settings in multi user accounts. It hides them so others can not see them

I fail to see how that should affect why I don't "see" my files anymore. I haven't switched the user, I only have one: the owner. May you please make your point more clear?
You can alter where things are stored. Have you connected back to pc to search tab that way. Check storeage settings did you use ptp or mtp for transfer

I used MTP. The tablet looks empty from "within" via Totalcommander & EStrong Filemanager. Also other apps like music don't see my files. Storage shows suspiciously much free space, I guess it's really gone. From PC it looks the same, completely wiped. It recreated the /sdcard/Android-Folder, and the Apps I've used since recreated their folders... I can't find where you meant I could alter where things are stored. Storage just let's me delete stuff and users just let's me edit the away-message.
Thanks anyway so far.
Hi I use wifi file explorer. Try that to transfer your files and let me know how it goes. Its in the playstore/market

Hi all, I'm in trouble with my mac. I downloaded the HTC Sync Manager for mac. Installed it. Once launched the program the hard drive starts twisting as a mad man. The program stats: importing media files????? 250 GB of musics, 180 GB movies and a lot GB of pictures. While twisting I can see that the hard drive free space decrease, not a lot but several GB yes. I waited for the end of this stupid operation than i plugged the One. The program freeze! No way to copy anything! The mac starts with its stupid lollipop and I'm obliged to force the shut down of the program. Tried to uninstall the program, restart the mac, install it again, but same problem. Tried to uninstall the program, wipe the phone... same problem. DO you have any ideas? Is there somewhere a simple bridging program to let me drag and drop files to my phone??? It was so easy when I had the phone as an external device....

Download the android transfer tool for mac. You can drag and drop then.

I keep getting a low memory window when I try uploading pictures there a cache cleaner I use but thats not working what do I do ??
Install DiskUsage from the play store. It will show you what is using most of the space on your phone and you can you can then use the "My Files" app to remove what you want. Also get an external memory card you can put on a keychain which you can plug into both your phone and a USB port on a PC/Mac to copy files around that you want to keep. Also having "just enough" free space is not enough. Your phone will be a lot faster if there is plenty of free space available on your phone. Uninstall apps you don't use.

Its anew phone and I also debloated it iv hardly used any storage on it at all I'm not understanding why it's already low on memory with all the free room it has??
Maybe your debloating process disabled something dealing with memory management.
I would try undoing your debloat and see if it still does it...

Just re-bloat and let is know if the problem goes away first. If it does, then re-debloat only one thing at a time until the problem recurs. Then you will know what had to stay running (not be debloated) to fix the isue. It's not rocket science but it is tedious and you just need to stick with the process and be patient.
Really
About as useful as Google dude frfr

Why would we look through your list? Undo it, reboot, and see if it still happens. If it doesn't then redo it slower and figure out which one breaks it.
If it does still happen after undoing the debloat and rebooting, then your phone is screwed as it doesn't happen to anyone else. Factory reset.

no need to be a prick. dont have something Useful to add shut up.
That WAS useful, you ass. It gave you two next steps to try that will identify your problem and then resolve it.
Just because you don't want to do it, doesn't mean it isn't good advice.
Good luck with your problem.
