Just found out that if I plug my Revo into my new laptop before powering on the damn thing refuses to boot! I can only assume the bios is set with boot from USB but I'm too lazy right now to verify. : p

The laptop won't turn on? Actually very common on Windows and you're right, it's because of the BIOS. Unless you do quite a bit of tinkering, Windows will not boot with another device plugged in to the USB.

You never heard of the "stick a cheap usb drive in the back of your friends PC and laugh as he won't be able to turn on the comp" prank?

Most laptops don't have the option to boot anything from USB which is why it doesn't boot up. Desktop computers do though because of the mouse and keyboard.

You are mostly right. Most newer laptops can boot from USB if the flash drive/device is bootable and you set boot priority in bios. Otherwise Windows mounts the devices after it is booted. If you set bios for main Hard Drive to boot before USB devices then you wouldn't have to unplug your phone. But you most likely have USB set to boot before HD and it looks for the boot sector of the device.

I made an icon to show up in Windows "Computer" when you have your Epic mounted to your PC via the USB cable. i have tested it on XP & 7 just unzip the two files in "Samsung Galaxy S usb mass storage device Icon.zip" to the root of your microSD card. if you have done this with the phone plugged in to the PC unmount the phone then plug it back in & remount it you will see my nice little icon in "Computer/My Computer" for the drive letter that is your phone.
I still have not got around to making a USB tethering icon. Let me know if any one even wants one

Ture, about the only time I do is ubs tether when the phone needs power to charge up.
But on android 2.1 u could use a windows autorun.inf pointed at the icon. But google for sum dumbass reason makes 2.2 froyo auto delete the autuorun.inf file from the sdcard. WTF GOOGLE why is a linux baced os messing with windows files? Android does NOT delete tumbs.db
And its just cool if your plugging your phone into a friends pc to give them a file. They open my computer thinking OK what drive latter did the phone get? But there the icon ;-)

HELP - broken pc

Hi,
My 5 year old dell dimension e520 is having some graphics issues. The machine turns on and comes up with the BIOS screen

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
However the screen is full of lines which are not supposed to be there. It then carries onto the next screen which appears as normal
And then boots windows as normal (no graphics issues here just a bad camera!)
However instead of coming up with the login screen it comes up with this screen
And then restarts. However it is fine in safe mode.
On booting into diagnostics it shows the same issue as in the BIOS.
And when I run the graphics test it shows this error
I have a feeling that the graphics card is a geforce 7300le, and the FBI DVI even (HTC spellcheck!!!) out is not working, only vga.
Any ideas?

No, I would like to get it working!! (I still have the old one - something like http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/pcs/5188/viglen-homepro-400cs-pii-400 )
Maybe try throwing in another graphics card and see if it works. Try the VGA output.
Tge vga on the current card sort of works - dvi does nothing. Will any old graphics card do or does it have to have a specific no of pins or be a specific size (i dont have any spare)

Look like a corrupted driver issue. Uninstall drivers for video card, reboot and install an older version of drivers then reboot again. Let me know if this helps.
Burnt GPU. Basically, your GPU is sooo overworked that it's like a horse with three legs. Some people might treat it like a fetish, but most mainstreamers will tell you to let it out onto the pastures and get a new GPU.
It looks like there's a tuna sandwich wedged in between the CPU and heat sink. Try shifting the mass of the sandwich to the right by 6 degrees.
My vote is for a video card that's about to go. You probably had some circuitry burn out, maybe during a power surge or something? You could check and see if you have anything burnt out on the back of it.
No power surge (i don't think) although the card could have been overworked. I doubt its a driver issue since the drivers haven't been updated and the same issue is in the BIOS.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
the strange thing is that it is fine in safe mode (which I am using now)
Video card might not be using the burnt out RAM while in safe mode because of the lower power settings.
If you are still convinced it's not your GPU's RAM, re-install windows.

If thats the case you can try updating the driver and see what happens... the issue is that safe mode will be using just the 2d VGA part of the vid card which doesn't mean anything unfort.

Solution to the SD Card Problem?

I, like many others, have been looking for solutions to expand storage on the Nexus 7. Chainfire's StickMount works well with USB keys, so I thought I would try it with something more oldschool:

Unfortunately, we threw out all our zip drives and disks a while back. It was mentioned as an option though.
Also, we did try a usb CD-ROM drive, but that wasn't playing ball (I would guess it does not register as a mass storage device at all)
Glad people like it. Despite the fun aspect, the whole setup (minus floppy) really is a pretty usable netbook/nettop level experience.
Would love to see a pogo pin dock so I could keep it charged, it is currently balancing on the front of a Dilbert calendar!

What i would love to know, would it be possible to charge the tablet at the same time. I know there is a few micro USB card readers/chargers around, but would be awesome to know if Nexus 7 allow to use both at the same time.
I read a few things about the micro usb audio out, where some people say that the Nexus 7 doesn't work as host when it comes to audio, and one of the benefits by that, is to be able to charge at the same time.
Hope someone can answer this question, cause i want the Nexus 7 to replace the screen in my car, but would love to be able to mount external UBS storage and stuff like this setup, but while charging the tablet.
Maybe someone can try to make something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p10LgZFIawo
Would love to see Nexus 7 charge while mounting external USB devices as host.
Add this and youre all set!
http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/21/wi-fi-media-lets-your-nexus-7-play-movies-on-any-screen-via-htc/
I have tried this on the Gnex before and couldn't get it to charge off a powered UB hub. Does the 7 charge, or are you battery limited?
No love w/o hub?
Hi,
I've tried the chainfires StickMount app on my (rooted) Nexus 7 with the OTG cable and couldn't get the device to "see" the storages StickMount mounted. Goes same for USB stick and for external (separately powered) USB hard drive.
So I wonder: is the USB hub essential for this setup?
The same OTG cable (eBay "brand") works just fine with any device I attach through it on my SGS III.

I used them, but we never owned one. Our first PC at home was the TI-99/4A in 1981, which I still have hooked up and running. The Apple II was the first PC I used, around 3rd Grade in the late 70's, though I of course had played plenty of Atari by then
Dang, I feel ancient. When I graduated from high school there was no such thing as desktop pc's and only pictures of those big computors that took up at least a whole friggin room to house them.

[Q] Bricked Touchpad

Alright. I've read quite a few of these threads, but everyone seems to have a less "bricked" tablet than I do. I don't have android on it. When I try to turn it on it only shows the low batter icon and then the plug icon. That's it.
I've tried charging it, it's been charging for an hour with no change. I've done the old Power button + Volume up (vol down, home button, tapping home button) Every combination imaginable. When I connect it to the computer, the first few time my computer recognized a device has been plugged in and started searching for drivers, but now it doesn't do that...also the search for palm drivers has failed. I can't get WebOs to work either...
I'm about ready to call it quits.
Any ideas?
Are you using the 2Amp charger that came with it?

Yeah, you need the OEM cable or a Touchstone. The TP is finicky about charging. Search for it here on XDA; several other people have had the same issue and resolved it with the original cable.
If you want to use another charger, like 1.25Amp then be prepared to wait a long time for it to charge. They really are programmed for the 2Amp as you can see with the notification it shows.

Have you tried flashing a custom rom?
Anyways, I had a Sony Ericsson that did that. It said it was charging but it wasn't, it had one of those weird set of copper (I think) plates that were used for USB connection, charging and headphones. It derped and it was showing a charging animation constantly.
It was an old phone so I just used clean alcohol to clean the plates and it kinda fixed itself, although I do not recommend doing that for your device, because it has a different hardware setup.

With stock sense and a stock kernel it may also be a kernel issue as the kernel contains the Charging Animation configuration and stuff, although flashing a custom Rom would probably solve the problem, although if still under manufacturers warranty send it back and get a new one before voiding anything..
No the phone is not rooted. It will not even connect to the computer through usb. I am beginning to think its somthing to do with the usb port on the phone. I might go ahead and try the alcohol thing. Thanks will update.

Before you do whatever, send it to the manufacturer if in warranty. Also USB ports work different from Sony erricson connection thingies, so be really careful what you do with it.
