How can i protect the fragile touch screen? - HD2 Accessories

I broke the touchscreen of my t-mobile hd2 ( my case did not help really) and I'm looking for a case that CAN protect my new glass .

I would suggest an Otterbox

There are many leather cases which it covers the whole phone that you can use.

Just don't drop it.

You can choose from many available. Starting from leather cases, through simple gel cases (like I have), ending on the tank-like Otterbox cases. IMHO you should choose depending on where do you use this, on which surface.
I have a simple gel pad for ca. 6,30$, but i mostly walk on carpets, wood and linoleum, and it works pretty well- although my HD2 landed on the floor many times with sound like something heavy has landed, my screen didn't break.
I got used to be careful, and watch out for the phone not to slip out from my hand.

I don't think looking for leather cases and the lot is the way to go - it might be a part of solving the problem; but the best way is to try and use the hard buttons on the phone less - especially the back and end keys. (maybe use softkeys like button savior if on android)

I understand the HD2 is Heavy. . .
Chuck Norris once tried to pick one up and
he broke his hand =)

You must have dropped it very hard on something like concrete. The HD2 has Gorilla glass so even if you was to buy a cheap $10 case off ebay you shouldn't have ever had a problem. I say shouldn't because even though we have Gorilla glass on our phone it only makes it harder to break, not impossible. Check out this video of the Leo being put through a tough screen test. I'll warn you, if you love your phone like i do its rather hard to watch.
Well back to protecting your phone. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of durable cases for our phone. With that said Otterbox should give you the best protection against dropped phones especially when onto hard surfaces. I've dropped mine a few times now on the ground and mine is only in a gel case. I never had a problem with it breaking but i'm sure there are other factors involved. I'm trying to find out for sure if our HTC HD2 can fit into a HTC Inspire 4G case. The measurments are very close, we are talking about less then a millimeter difference in some spots while others are exact. If it would i would suggest a case from Seidio.

I am ordering the seidio rugged inspire case from amazon it has 3 layers of protection. I'll let u know if it works.

I opened a thread about this earlier but had not got around to ordering it yet. I did try on a seidio plain hard case that fit. The volume buttons was a tricky fit though. You could press volume down just fine but you needed to press almost in the middle of the volume button to turn the volume up. It did fit nice and secure inside the case though. Very interested to find out the results.

got the seidio convert case today..more protection and cheaper than the defender. I looked most of the inspire 4g cases from seidio should fit as well as this one does.I think i will keep my tmobile hd2 a little longer now.
---------- Post added at 10:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 PM ----------
the volume rocker is not centered in the opening but works fine.

i suggest invisible shield, the feeling is really nice and its protection is also very good

I use the original HD leather case and it works well.
BTW: Most time I have my HD2 just in pockets of my jeans - for about two years no.

[ACC] Sprint Hero Holster

Just thought I would let anyone know who is interested in a holster for a hero that I found and purchased one on ebay for 3.89 with free shipping. I have recieved the holster and it seems to be a very nice holster and for that price you cant beat it.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200434240103&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I've used these for my last 2 phones.
http://www.newyorkcellphone.com/home/gladiator.html
PLEASE DON'T EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER carry your phone screen-out. I have a full-coverage holster and I still carry the phone screen-in (towards my body). It takes precious little to destroy a screen during daily usage.
Really really stupid idea for a holster.
yea I wish it went the other way but for 3 bucks it will do. I only really use it at work and I have a zagg on it. Im waiting for the otterbox defender series to come out so this was cheap solution tell then.
Expensive but awesome:
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/d-hlhhrsas.htm
There is a version to fit with the Innocase II also. The best case there is, imo.
The durable spring clip on our Spring Clip Holster holds your device securely in place, and then lifts for quick access. Both the felt liner and the face-in design protect your screen from scratches and exposure to outside elements. This holster can be worn in any one of seven different positions, ranging between horizontal and vertical.
- Unique spring clip lifts for quick access and easy removal
- Seidio's signature soft touch coating provides a better feel and added grip
- Adjustable swivel belt clip with 7 rotating angles
- Felt liner and face-in design protect your phone from outside elements
- Easy access to connectors and function keys
- Designed to hold your bare device

yeah i think the screen facin out is a horrible thing
Personally, I like the Seidio Innocase Holster/Case.
http://www.seidio.com/holster.html
Carries the phone securely, face in, locks in place if you wish. Rotating belt clip. Ultra Thin hard case. Easily removable from phone.
The hard case is two sliding pieces that lock together. Not bulky but protects the phone just fine. Just separate the case by pushing the release on back, slide the bottom half off the phone if you use a stand up charger. Slide the top off and then the phone back to remove the battery if you wish.
Great idea, very easy to use, great phone housing protection and positive lock for phone. User selectable locking tab.
Bought two, one for me and the Mrs., we love em.
Boxwave Holster
Boxwave makes a great face-in holster...
I use mine daily...

[Q] thin case for NS4G

They just came out so I don't expect miracles but I figured that one of these stretch rubber kind might fit it. However, I hate to add more thickness to the phone so does anyone know of an extra thin one?
You can try a i9023 case as I believe the super LCD Nexus are slightly thicker than the i9020s. I'm not too sure if the thickness is the same as the sprint versions though.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The sprint store has a few gel cases that are thin. People are also reporting that the CaseMate Pop fits the 4G.
Has anyone gotten this case:

How is it? what's the fit like. Can you post some pics?
I went with the Incipio Feather case. Its the thinest I know of.

It hasn't shown up yet so I wont know for another day or 2. Users on other forums have confirmed that it fits well.
As reported in other thread incipio case fits NS4G without problems, the only "complaint" is that the cutout for power button is not centered but lowered, still it doesn't affect/press the button.
Mine came cracked at the bottom, called incipio, they're sending a new one.
i got this case and its a pain to press the power button

wish power was on top rather then on the side .. i usually change the volume when trying to turn on volume with my other fingers.
My wife wants this case but i dont believe that it will fit on the 4g version

even though it says it does
all the other ones on ebay say they wont fit
Honestly I had the hard case from best buy and it fit my ns4g better than my tmo ns Im sure any hard case will work with it. That said dont get the platinum hard case from best buy it is garbage. Those gel cases from sprint seemed about the same thickness as the best buy hard case it hit the holster perfectly but i didnt put one on the phone. Instead I went with this

I am very happy with this case it fastens together very securly and fit even with the invisa-sheild
When I got my ns4g I had the same problem so I got both a red incipio feather and the case/holster combo from sprint
http://shop2.sprint.com/NASApp/onli...ryID=CHS8564R&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=0
The incipio fits fine minus the fact that power button is a little off but its really not a problem or a deal breaker. The case from sprint works great and isn't too bulky either, though not as thin as the incipio case. I personally would suggest both.

Just a heads up. The gel case at the Sprint store sucks.. It's so tight you barely have to touch the phone to turn it on, or key a volume key.. It's really awkward pressing buttons through a layer of gel.

Yeah.. This is the sucky gel case I threw in the trash. Very annoying to operate the power button and volume keys through that layer of gel.
Well... I've successfully tried ALL available cases for the NS4G now, and I'll say this... they ALL suck. All of them. I hope some decent offerings become available soon.

How does this phone fit the ZAGG Invisashield? Does it match up well with the power buttons etc?
Thanks!
The Incipio Feather case is perfect. Nice matte black finish, feels great in hand, and us thin, but still overlaps the top of screen which is great.
I know it fits slightly off on my 4G version but that's barely noticable. Looks awesome.
I have the Feather case on my EVO as well, but it does not come up and overlap top of screen, it only goes up 90% on the sides which I do not like. Wish it was designed same as the Nexus-S version.

Thanks for the heads up.
The clear argyle gel case is what I have. Yes, in the beginning it was a pain in the ass to push the buttons. I tried a little cutting on the case and now it's not so difficult to deal with. I got a brand new exacto knife blade with a tip blade. I put the case on the phone and gently made a surface mark on the top, bottom, left and right of where the buttons actually are. The volume seemed centered correctly but the power wasn't. Anyways, I made my marks with the tip of the knife so I knew where to cut. I went about a millimeter farther than I needed to go on the borders. I removed the phone and put something the same thickness as the phone on the inside of the gel to give me some leverage to carefully make the cutouts in the gel. I didn't try to cut it all in one shot. I made many passes on the line I was cutting until I managed to go all the way through. It doesn't look stock and it's not ocd perfect but it got the job done and the case is still strong. I originally got the two piece with the holster at sprint but I didn't like it quickly when holding it in my hand with a flat palm, the phone would slide down easily in my hand. I was too afraid of that adding to the chance it might fall out of my hand. The gel is still strong, covers all the phone, has a lip on the front where the screen is so it's not flush on the screen and it doesn't interfere with a zagg screen protector. I could post pics if anyone is interested in seeing it.

[Q] Case & screen protector questions

Hey guys,
Anyone found a hard case that fits in the car dock yet? Tried the incipio one but it's pretty tight, and the last thing I wanna do with my shiny new bionic is to go wedging and squeezing it
Also, I've heard that because the screen is gorilla glass there's really no need for a screen protector, anyone wanna weigh in on this? I generally carry the phone in my pocket with nothing else in it, should I be worried about scratches or scuffs through normal use and carrying? In the event of a bad enough drop/scratch that the screen would get damaged, would a screen protector provide any help anyway?
Thanks in advance for any advice, and hope everyone is enjoying their phone as much as I am!

The screen protectors they try to sell you at the VZ stores are *always* useless on *all* phones. And since the Bionic has gorilla glass, even the invisibleSHIELDs and Bodyguardz are useless also. You don't have to worry about scratches and scuffs at all on a device that has gorilla glass.
As for cases, I don't plan on using one at all, so I don't have an opinion on that.
i purchased the Shell Holster combo from Verizon and if you remove the insert in the car dock the phone will fit in it with the hard shell on it.
The hard shell also works with the extended battery.
I'm looking for a case that fits over the extended battery. Didn't like the uncomfortable plastic one verizon offers. Haven't seen any others.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I tried the shell holster combo, didn't seem to fit in the car dock even with the insert removed. It felt like the bulge that allows for the extended battery made the case too wide for the clamp on the car dock to fit over the phone, but I was also being pretty delicate with the thing (like I said, I REALLY don't want to go wedging and squeezing anything on my new baby!), but maybe I missed something? Can you post pics of yours in action?
I'll also say that I thought it was odd that the only clamshell holster that my verizon store had was one that fit the extended battery, it definitely seemed to add a lot of bulk to the phone that you don't need if you're not using it. Is there just the single "one size fits all" version of this case, or are there separate ones for the standard and extended batteries (which seems like it would make a lot more sense)?
Also, thanks for the advice on the gorilla glass, I did get a set of verizon screen protectors (even though I know they're worthless) just as a temporary measure until I could get a better one, but I guess I'll be tearing that thing off and seeing how it goes. Anyone else wanna add their weight to this recommendation and make me feel a little better about going au-natural on the screen? I'm coming from a Dinc which definitely needed the screen protector, so I may just be a little paranoid, but it would totally ruin my day if I went without and then ended up with a permanently scuffed screen
Thanks again for all the advice guys, I'm totally loving this thing, just gets better and better every day I use it!
I didn't use anything on my screen (or a case for that matter) on my DX for the year I had it and the screen still looks brand new. I usually carried the phone in my pocket with nothing else in the pocket. Also dropped the phone a few times and no damage whatsoever.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I had Gorilla Glass on another phone and used it for over a year with ZERO scratches. I do not plan on using a screen protector with my Bionic. However, I am shopping for a thin case to stop surface scratches.
I had two OG droids over a period of two years that never had a screen protector.
One did get a very minor scratch but the other I had for longer was flawless the entire time.
I think the only thing you have to watch out for if you're going bare is sand.
So what are you guys recommending for cases? I like the Incipios, but if the holster works in the car dock, that'd be a big selling point.

Looking for a case to fit over the extended battery as well. Hoping that there will be some soon!
You do NOT need a screen protector... rocked the D1 for ~2yr without one and not a single blemish became of it.. it has the same gorilla glass screen:
Youtube:Motorola Droid A855 Key Screen Scratch Test
As for cases... I got the 'high-gloss silicone' case from VZW... I like it, EXCEPT that the power button doesn't work in the car-dock. I was thinking of returning it, but I might just go exacto on it and make a little cut-out for the power button.
I don't know if this is very relevant but tomorrow i'm picking up the otterbox defender bionic case from radioshack (got a buddy whose a rep that can get me a discount). I've seen the otterbox cases on other phones and they're awesome. They do add a lot of bulk but if you're often at risk of destroying your phone if you drop it like I am, (I work at citizens bank park in philly) the bulk is well worth the protection.
Wow, some of you guys are very lucky. Gorilla Glass, without a doubt, CAN SCRATCH. It handles things like coins and keys fine, but things that are harder, like sand, will scratch it. It amazes me that some people still say its unscratchable. Do yourself a favor and get a good quality screen protector, not that Zagg garbage. I recommended Steinheil Ultra Crystal. Once its on, you'll never notice it. Just like glass.
So, just in case anyone was wondering, I did end up finding a hard case that fits in the docks/mounts easily and allows charging and dock mode. The Incipio Feather is what I got, and I'm really liking it. It barely adds any bulk to the phone, but it gives it enough protection to ward off pocket scratches or dings and would probably do fine in a small drop. It does come with a screen protector but I wouldn't recommend using it, it's one of the harder plastic ones that picks up fingerprints like crazy, and while it's big enough to fit the entire screen it doesn't bend to conform to the screen's curves so it overhangs and lifts up around the edges which sucks. I'll probably end up getting a Zagg or a Steinheil instead, but as for the case I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a hard case but not much bulk!

Yes, the oem SILICONE cases fit in the docks, but if you're like me and want a hard case you'e SOL. There are only three hard cases that verizon sells for the Bionic, the Incipio two-piece case, the Otterbox, and the shell holster combo, and none of them seem to fit the docks and allow charging/dock mode (not to mention that the otterbox and shell/holster are both huge). You're right about the insert, but it still doesn't help with any of the hard cases that were released at verizon, which is why I'm so stoked to find the one I did!

Hey I'm considering this Feather or the Seidio Surface case (which I had with my Incredible). From the pics on the Incipio website for the Feather case, it looks like the top corners are exposed...is that true? Its a little hard to tell from the website pics. Thanks!!

Seidio Surface Case on Amazon

They have these on Amazon for $10 less than the Seidio site. The case and clip combo, edited cause I didn't know if people may have thought it was just the case. Just ordered the black one. I was going to wait for the cheaper platinum branded one from Best Buy but it still shows backordered on their site. I had the same case for my Captivate and Inspire and really liked it. If you need a belt clip this is a great option.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006671MRG/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
My seidio active just came in from amazon, love it, although I had to pay the full 30.
pics/review/thoughts of your active and surface cases?
I'm looking for something with at least decent drop protection. Looks like Otterbox commuter fits the bill but I thought the active looked a little snazzier.
Here's the best photos I could manage with my old LG Optimus Get ready for the long blocks of text.
Lots of pros: Case fits perfectly along with exoskeleton, no need to worry about it being loose. Makes the phone a lot easier to grip. I no longer have problems gripping the phone, in whatever position I may be standing/lying. Case made of top notch material. Exoskeleton is made to absorb shock when the phone is dropped on its corners and it seems like it does just that.
Camera is not impacted by the case at all, or at least to the point where I cant tell. Everything is cut perfectly, both on the inner shell and outer shell. Doesn't add a lot of bulk to the phone itself.
Have a problem with accidently pushing the volume buttons? Not anymore. The soft inner case is solid enough so that the volume buttons/power button (which are covered) only get pressed when you want to.
Loved the kickstand the first time I tried it. I believe it was made to lock in one position. At first, I thought it was dumb that they made the kickstand open so that the charger port was pointed down towards the table but you can just flip the phone 180 degrees and use the kickstand that way too! Should be all the viewing angles you need.
Cons: The hard exterior exoskeleton does not cover the top and bottom of the soft case. I did not get the holster with it so I do not know how the holster will affect the softer plastic but it seems extremely durable. Not sure how long the kickstand will last but seems well built so hopefully the entire lifespan of my phone. Another con is that the kickstand juts out of the case a millimeter or two so that when you have the phone flat on a table, it doesnt sit flat on its back.
Does attract a bit of lint but hardly noticeable unless under bright lights, which is how I took the pictures
Overall, very nice and durable case. Wish it was a bit cheaper than 30 dollars so if you can snag a sale, good for you! Highly recommended it. I didnt even know seidio existed before reading through these forums and looking at the opinions others gave them and I am glad I went with it! Let me know if you have any other questions.
I just got my surface case in today and it is exactly what I expected. I've had the same case on my Captivate and Inspire. There are other cases I like better but the clip is a necessity for me. Fits like a glove and doesn't add much bulk at all.
It adds a decent amount of protection but don't expect Otterbox Defender kind of protection. Though I have dropped my Captivate and Inspire numerous times with this case on and never had any damage.
Pics later when I get a chance.

FYI I've had Seido Surface cases cause micro scratches on the plastic of phones before. Little pieces of dust/debris get stuck inside and the hard plastic of the phone causes it to scratch the plastic of the phone.
You can have this issue with any type of hard plastic case. I've seen it happen personally on the cheap generic Ebay cases and expensive Surface cases.
I've seen the build up but not scratches in the 3 that I have owned. But I'm also not looking for it either as I don't care if the plastic gets scratched up. I just need something with a belt clip that doesn't add much bulk and gives some protection in case of a drop.

Just got my phone back from getting the screen replaced and need to find something to put it in to keep it safe! Any Suggestions?
Original HTC Desire HD Leather Case
Hi there,
when I got my NS i went to the nearby Electronics Shop and tried the cases they had. The Original HTC Desire HD leather Case fits very well...
do you have the i9020 or i9023? Any type of case you have in mind?

I really like the cases from this thread. Picked up two of them.

The Incipio Feather Case is nice. It doesnt add much bulk, but still protects well.
Why not get a good screen protector and then run without a case. When the battery door gets to the point that its no longer attractive or you want to sell the phone buy a new battery door cover. A new battery door will cost you $7-$12 on eBay.
My Nexus has survived wars and it still looks good w/o a case. Like ^ this guy said, screen protector would suffice. I hate that extra bulk in my pocket.
I've got the trident aegis black-on-black for my NS4G (which I've had since last august) and think it's great. I had never been a "case" guy, and always kept my phones bare, but this phone was just waaaaaay too slippery. The smooth plastic back is one of the worst features of this phone and makes it really hard to hold on to if you're constantly juggling stuff in your hands and on the move. I dropped it a bunch of times in the first few days I had it before I just caved and ordered this case.
It's a two-piece case with a silicone full body case that covers the whole phone, and then a hard plastic outer shell that kind of clamps around the silicone.
The silicone part is supposed to absorb shock when you drop it, I guess. It has tabs that cover the headphone and usb ports, cutouts that are perfect for the camera and speaker, and mic, and is a bit thicker on the corners, which gives me some confidence and makes me think that they thought the design through well. I've dropped it a bunch, and watched my 1.5yr old son throw it to the ground, and no probs.
The plastic part wraps around that and is supposed to be good at reducing risk of damage during "crushing" impact. All I can say is that I actually shut my car's trunk on this phone accidentally and it was absolutely fine. It gives it gives it a sleeker feel and minimizes the "ruberry-ness", too.
It also comes with a clear screen protector that is fine, and I don't even notice. Since the screen is curved most people complain about the fact that screen protectors don't stick well on the edges, which is true, but the lip of the silicone case on the front covers this area, so you don't even notice it. I also don't notice a difference when using the touchscreen.
The silicone part does collect lint, so if you're OCD about that, it'll be annoying, but the protection makes it totally worth it for me. I'll gladly pay $30 for a rock solid case that collects a little lint rather than get insurance at $7.99 x 24 months = $192 over the contract. The one thing that's important to know if you use multiple batteries like I do, is that you have to put the silicon section into the hard plastic section first, pop all the buttons out of their holes on the hard plastic case, and then push the phone into the case. If you try to put the rubber part on the phone first, and then put the hard plastic on, the fit is so tight, it's tough to get the buttons to pop out. It was pretty frustrating before I figured this out, but now it only takes me a few seconds to do a battery swap. Finally, the case does add some bulk to the phone, but I personally don't think it's all that bad. The phone feels more solid in my hand and is much less slippery.
I've been meaning to write a review for this phone in the proper thread, but I don't like to review stuff unless I've really used it. So I pretty much forgot till I saw this post. Maybe I'll go link to this post in that thread too, but if you want pics, I remember seeing them in that thread, and in threads over on androidcentral or androidforums or something. Good luck with the case search.
I grabbed the Ballistic case for my Nexus. It's pretty rugged, stays on very well, and comes off easily when you want it too. Feels very solid in your hands.
