Bootloader Unlock Problem? - HTC Sensation XL

Hello,
unfortunately does not unlock the boot loader with me.
I get an error message and code173.
I hope someone can help me.
greeting
Emrah85

Are you following the instructions to the letter on the HTCdev website because they're easy enough to follow. Have you got HTC sync installed because that could be interfering with fastboot. Other than that it is very probably that you're doing something wrong.
On another note this is the wrong forum to post questions like this, it should've been in the general section....
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using xda premium

yes I followed exactly as shown on the homepage of HTCDev.
But unfortunately I get the same error message.
We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.
Error Code: 173.
Error Reason: Check Rule Fail with exception.

Well it could be a few things, have you copied the unlocktoken properly and done the correct procedure in fastboot. There are many people in here that have done it without any problems what so ever, so I would check what you are doing because I'm guessing that it is something you're doing wrong...

Unlock bootloader w/o HTCDev?
Hi,
This may seem like a silly question, but htcdev.com has been royally trolling me for the past three days and would not show me those darn instructions. (Keeps asking for login)
Is there another guide I can follow to unlock my bootloader. I am craving to flash the Senseless ICS rom.
Thanks!
Kian

[Q] Vodafone (Aus) Sensation XL Bootloader unlock

I did a lot of research lately regarding to how to unlock the bootloader, because I am still stuck at "sending unlocktoken 0kb" .
Some people said installing RUU would fix it, but all I get is error code 130. Error code 130 means the region of the file is not right.
So I continue to search on Google, the conclusion I have got is the HTC Sensation XL from vodafone(AUS) is unlockable through HTCDev website.
I just want to know if anyone with HTC Sensation XL from Vodafone have succeeded unlocking their bootloader?
Please let me know.
Is there a pink bar at the very top of your bootloader which says 'Locked' or 'unlocked'?
If not, then no, your bootloader cannot be unlocked.
However, any device which has that there, should just be able to select 'other supported device' from the list and unlock.
at least, that's as far as i understand it. It certanly worked on mine..but then mine is an EU device.
I swear we had this issue not too long ago with an Indian SXL or something,,
Do you have the HTC Driver installe don your machine?

Yes I have installed the driver and my devices are showing under "fastboot devices" and "adb devices"
Drivers are from HTC Sync, but HTC Sync was uninstalled after.
Anyway, I have contacted HTC, they said they will need to verify with a higher level tech support.
Out of interest, how big is the unlock_code.bin file?
Mine is 256 bytes.
I've seen once or twice where the file size is different and it wouldn't flash. Starting the process again from the start on the website to get a correct file seemed to fix it.

But please note : Do a backup of the original rom... I have unlocked and installed other rom but now have problems reverting the phone back to a original htc rom.

Not far off. To flash a custom rom you need to unlock bootloader as cant flash recovery on locked bootloader. In order for recovery flash to be successful you need root. They all work hand in hand. When we get s-off then guys with unrootable roms can downgrade to gain root. To flash recovery which you need to flash custom rom you need root on stock rom

Yea I've used that before on desire and desire HD and desire s etc. That tool roots before flashing recovery as root access is needed to flash to system partition in device

There is an unroot zip that I will post later to reverse root. Can always go back if lock bootloader and flash stock ruu. Make sure cmd is correct mate. Unlocking bootloader is very easy once follow instructions

Thing is it was correct. But i did this on my Windows PC
and had my phone plugged in there. And after that.
I went to my mac because thats where i was able to log into htcdev
my windows let me log in but it auto logged off constantly. So idk if that was the reason why it didn't work. Because i tried to unlock on my mac and i did the CMD stuff on windows.
But this is my GF phone and i kinda only want root because she wants to remove the stock apps.
But i just wanted to unlock the bootloader incase she ever wants custom roms etc.

You need to install HTC sync and enable USB debugging in settings/applications/development. Plug phone in and allow all drivers to be installed then unplug device and uninstall HTC sync. That other PC needs these drivers or program won't find it

[Q] Need some help with Rooting the HTC Raider

Hi,
I am thinking about rooting my HTC Raider (Bell) X710a. I am, however, unable to find a simple enough method.
I came across this tool for the HTC Vivid (ATT) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003 And was wondering if I could use the tool on my HTC Raider.
If Not, Is there a super simple way to root my phone? I am really new to smartphones and am also fairly new to technology in general
Any Help would be greatly appreciated and thanked!
That's the method I used. I have the raider on rogers. I'm pretty sure it works for yours to. You have to unlock the bootloader first tho.
By the way that method is very simple. It doesn't get any easier in my opinion. Watch his video and follow the steps.

well when i did it it really didnt root it but unlock bootloader and flash the wildchild recovery when i go into hboot it says S-On so im guessing i didnt root it at all with the tool but i was able to flash a custom recoveyr

It won't say s-off even if you root the phone. You have to take certain steps to get s-off which is being worked on now. You should still be able to root your phone through wild child recovery. The option is there.

Go here, a video shows you how to root using the recovery.

sir perhaps you'd be able to help me out since i got the phone from rogers as well. so i did try to follow this tool and watch the video, but to no avail, still im not able to root my htc raider
now the video doesnt seem like a step by step tutorial for me so i just did exactly wht he was sayin. now due to prev attemt before using this tool, i was only successful with unlocking my bootloader; so i skiped the part where i have to unlock it.
i was able to flash the CWM 5.5.0.4 and used the backup/restore to make sure if anything happen i'd be bale to restore my phone. after that i went straight to permroot, and all i got on the promt command was some adb stuff out of date. i assumed maybe i had to flash kernel first to make it work, but thats the part where i got stock on the htc white screen logo. im not sure what i missed; maybe you could help me out and give me a step by step procedure...
i could really use some help

[Q] Need help with bootloader/rooting. Tried searching and found no answeres.

I guess I should start by telling you my progress and why I can't just go through the guide on this site.
Before I discovered this site, successfully unlocked my bootloader using the official site. Then I googled around and found a guide to root the phone. I'll try to post the link later, I'm in a hurry and on my phone. The root failed, saying it couldn't copy files or something like that. I tried again with superoneclick, but it always freezes at step five and I have to exit.
Then I found this site. The guide said I have to re-lock my bootloader before continuing, so I follow the directions and do that, only to find out It wants me to unlock it again using the method I did before. Now this is where I need help, and why I need my own thread. When I tried to lock my loader again, there was a line that said FAILED in the cmd. because of this I am unsure if I really am locked or not, and I'm afraid of doing anything else until I know for sure.
How can I find out whether I'm locked or not? I'm sure I can figure out the rest once I know for sure.

Turn your phone off. Pull your battery. Turn on your phone by holding volume down + the power button. You will be booted to the bootloader screen. It will say at the top whether you are "unlocked" or "re-locked". Re-locked = locked.
The reason you need to re-lock your bootloader is because the RUU (stock ROM flash) requires it. The you have to once again unlock the bootloader and then you can root. The RUU also updates the HBOOT for you if you want some custom ICS ROMs.
I am trying to relock my bootloader to flash RUU. When I relock, it gives the security warning, and won't go past bootloader. You have to have the phone on to update the RUU.

Thanks a lot, jerrycoffman45.
Is anyone familiar with this error? I searched but didn't find.

FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
It appears to do it anyway, as it says relocked on the bootloader screen.

[Q] About S-OFF, Unlocking and many other things

I have a couple of questions, which hopefully someone or some peeps on here can provide some answers.
This whole S-Off thing, just to establish once and for all does your phone need to have the following done to it just for this one thing?:
Bootloader Unlocked
Rooted
Clockwork Recovery Installed
SuperUser Installed
CID Changed
If so this seems like a hell of a lot of effort, just for this one thing to be done.
The other thing I have noticed, is that even though there are some good nOObs guides on this forum, it maybe an idea at some point in the future for some YouTube videos.
Thanks.

You don't need any of those to s-off. You don't need a video, although there are probably some available - just read the guide carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
Also, you need to ask yourself if you actually need s-off in the first place..

Are only few commands.
In 15 min, you have an HTC One s-offed with the recovery and another cid
