A successful root method from chinese forum!
from: http://bbs.gfan.com/android-3604178-1-1.html
The only root method so far, is to exchange the recovery in v20B and install root tools through recovery.
step 1) copy Superuser.zip to the root directory in SD card.
step 2) shut down your OB, take out the battery, press volume + and plug the USB cable (which means enter the S/W mode)
Step 3) extract LGP970.7z and obtain v20.bin and v20v.fls files.
step 4) open B_SmartFlashTool_Extern.exe and select:
ROM copy D/L
cp:V20B.fls
ap:V20B.bin
select mode:normal mode
step 5) click start button to start flashing, all data in OB(sms, contacts, game records) won't be lossed.
After flash procedures, you will come to the recovery interface, then, select install zip from SDcard and choose the superuser.zip that you place before.
Reboot and you got the rooted 2.3.4
All files(superuser, LGP970.7z ) can be downloaded from here:
http://115.com/file/cl3smym3
(for someone who don't know chinese:
after you get into the site, you will see 3 color buttons at the middle
green, blue and red, the download link(grey button) is at the right of the red button)

We already know that...

No, as written in the threads linked by N00BY.
Please read before you post.
Nor the rooted V20b uploaded to the Chinese forum the Hong Kong stock ROM, as reported by some in their replies.
The "new" method posted on the Chinese forum is actually the one posted by SnegovikRZN on xda.
But the poster didn't give proper credit to the source.

The only thing you need, is ubuntu or other linux distributions, the bin files of your firmware (u can get em like this: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/cs_auth_model_check.jsp?esn=imei) replace IMEI, btw.
And this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22329293&postcount=106

Because the one post in xda is using v20B which is equally to the HongKong OB stock rom = v20B, so my question is , is that v20B is the HK's v20B ?

IT DOESNT MATTER which one it is, just download the bin file YOU need, and follow the guide then. Ask in the thread, which version it is. I cant answer this to you, since I am using a N version of GB. I already gave you the link, of how to get the right BIN files, via your IMEI, and if you couldnt get the official update yet, ask another one about it. Or simply try the ROM. It is rooted, so you can enter CWM quickly and also restore the previous version, if needed.

Thank you for your link, I get this sw_url:

I copy it to my browser but nothing appear. Thanks for your help

The request for the zip file that you get when making the request with a German IMEI always return a 404 (not found). I wonder where has the user SnegovikRZN taken them from.

Ok, sorry then, I thought LG already released the bin files. I've been wrong there it seems.
Idk where he got em from. Maybe ask him via PM or in his thread.

if I get the file from this:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/ezls/...IN_LGP970AT-00-V20b-454-XXX-DEC-31-2011+0.zip
Is that I can directly flash the bin file(extract from the above link) by smartflash?

Yes, you can flash the with Smart Flash, just as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22304591&postcount=91 (of course by replacing the names of the fls/bin file with your own).
I would have one request from you, I am not able to download that zip from LG, but if you can, can you please share it somewhere ? I would like to have that in case that i have to bring the telephone back to the shop for warranty - it's a "just in case" scenario .
Dan

ok, if I can get the zip file from LG, I will post here

ok, I will post it if I know how to download the zip from LG

thanks ...its good 2 peek into other forums
Translating through google translator.
I have a folder c: shttps \ www \ empty. Fixed hosts, run kdz says no internet connection. Requests to register in the program fee?
There are some cases obtaining a root Unlock Root, all of them updated to 2.2.2 to 2.3.4 or through kdz, or via the Internet. At the same time to have 2.2.2 Root, will not normally be dumped data (wipe), then through the Unlock Root, Root received. That's what I'm trying to flash through SmartFlashTool_External to 2.2.2, stuck updated through kdz.
No, you don't have to register, and the ..\www folder shouldn't be empy.
In that folder you have to unpack the file you found in the original thread (on the bottom of the first post you found 2 files, one is the program shttps.zip and the other is ww.zip).
About the root, i don't know.

[Q] Help - How to root Samsung Note KL3 (Singapore Starhub)

Hi there
Yes I know there are articles about this (damn long articles with strange terms). And I have read through a lot posts about how to root Samsung Galaxy Note - there seems to be 1001 ways to do it but none of them worked on my model KL3 (purchased from Starhub in Singapore)
-> Tried one-click root method - doesnt work anymore for KL3
-> Tried odin method, can't find the place to download the revised ROM (just wondering why will the author still post the URL that is invalid?)
So please anyone out there, if you have done any successful root on KL3, please let me know how you did it.
I am willing to pay you some $$ to get the no-nonsense answer - I have wasted 1 day digging around and I don't want to waste more time.

First downgrade your firmware, then Root it. after applying Root, you can back to Singapore KL3 or watever new ROM you desire, by using CWM or Mobile Odin
Hi sorry to hijack yr thread OP,but i am also from Singapore.i bought a set from singtel.
my firmware are as follow:
PDA:N7000DXKL3
PHONE:N7000DXKL2
CSC:N7000OLBKL2
Baseband:N7000DXKL2
Kernel:2.6.35.7-N7000DXKL3-CL825081 [email protected]#2
i am confused on which one to look at as both pda and phone has different KL version..so which one should i be looking at for rooting purposes and can my current fw be rooted directly?
Look at kernel version. You are on KL3.
Follow dr.ketan's post above.
thanks for replies.
what puzzles me is that,i read dr.ketan's pdf guide and found that N7000DXKL3 is direct rootable.have u tried and it failed?

Actually xxkl3 was released early that was direct rootable, but some newer version released under kl3 are not rootable
Actuallt kl* are non rootable, except some early kl3. So you shud try to root it directly, if not success you should consider it as non rootable.

[Q] Root gingerbread 2.3.4 v20i

Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392
. And search before you post

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len
No one's replying to my thread anymore and a post was deleted last week for some reason.. Anyway, I got my phone rooted too, same method, but had no network access, 3g or phone service, did you overcome that at all?

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

i think this Newbie Guide is wrong.

hi, i have 2 questions:
1) I think this Newbie Guide have human mistakes.
if i wasn't wrong,
PDA should be "CODE_S5830xxxxxx" ,
Phone should be "MODEM_S5830xxxxxx" and
EFS should be " DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225493
i hope somebody can verify this.
thanx.
OPS - Select the file named Cooper_v1.0.ops (or anything like that)
BOOT - Select the file named "APBOOT_S5830xxxxx_CL514579_REV03_user_low_true.ta r.md5"
where "xxxxx" = Your firmware version
Phone - Select the file named "CODE_S5830xxxxx_CL514579_REV03_user_low_true.tar. md5"
where xxxxx = firmware version
PDA - DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING
CSC - Select the file named "GT-S5830-MULTI-CSC-xxxxxx.tar.md5"
where "xxxxxx" = the CSC region
EFS - Select the file named "MODEM_S5830xxxxx_CL514579_REV03.tar.md5"
xxxxx = firmware version (Be VERY VERY careful with this EFS part)
After you're done , click on "Start" and let the magic reveal itself slowly......

AFAIK , we only need Android USB Drivers of Samsung Kies + ODIN +OPS to flash the Stock ROM.
and the step to root and unroot (androind 2.2 or 2.3.x) , the phone read the update file directly from the SDCARD.
I have no experience with Flash Custom Revory and Custom Rom yet, but from the fisrt post of this thread, seems that they don't need Android SDK too.

First of all, XDA community is wonderful.
I have read maybe thousands of posts here. And I learned many, many interesting things here.
However, I have noticed that not all the explanations, or helps, are very precise, and accurate.
In order not to make a mistake with what you're doing, it is better to search and read many explanations on XDA or on the other sites, about what you want to do, until you are convinced that you did understand.
On the other hand any beginner must divide the actions in 2 parts.
1. Dangerous for the phone
2. Not Dangerous
1.
Dangerous are: root the phone, unlocking the network, install CWM (a wrong one), flash a new Custom ROM (a wrong one), flash a firmware with Odin (with wrong files), and maybe others.
2.
Not Dangerous are: make a backup and restore, flash the same Custom ROM (that you know), modifying an apk and flash it, and so.
The point here is to choose what is good for you.
And, what you do, you do it at your own risk.
Can you please explain more detail , if you do know the answer ?
too sorry about that , I'm not quite understanding what u mean.

If the man says, PDA - DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING
you have to DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING to PDA
I have put a print screen with the steps.
View attachment 3246528
Step 1 - OPS file for SGA S5830 Cooper, it is not for S5830i
Step 2 - check mark on One Step
Step 3 - firmware that you downloaded and want to put on your phone.
Step 4 - Start and wait about 5 minutes, to write PASS.
And, of course, take your risk.
It's OK now?

Is it correct that for Odin you just need SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones
But if you move forward, and you want to work with multiple tools or applications for Android, you will still need the SDK.
What I meant to post 2, is that you have to read between the rows, not word by word.
Because no one can say that: "what works for me, will work for you."
Simply, because here we are not at school.
By the way, I just want to help.
Greetings

hi, so glad to have your replies again.
but , my first question is for FULL Package instructions , not the One Package Instructions 。
i have no any problems or questions with One Package. (actually , i think i was quite familiar to One package).
if we google the full package odin instructions , the most of results we got is sth like this:
Bootloader =APBOOT_I9003DDLF2_CL1153545_REV08_user_low_ship.t ar.md5
PDA=CODE_I9003DDLF2_CL1153545_REV08_user_low_ship. tar.md5
Phone=MODEM_I9003DDLE1_REV_00_CL1149304.tar.md5
CSC=GT-I9003-MULTI-CSC-ODDLF2_RST.tar.md5
You see, the parts that hightlight with red color on the top post ,is totally differrent from the google one .
so i need some advice from the veteran people here . (maybe both are correct? just different situation? just a wild guess)

ok, thanks.
so , let's simply assume that android SDK is just for future use with more advanced purpose.
:good:
I think i had found the answer of second question for myself .
Android SDK is for legacy root method that use adb comand to push and root the handphone device from the PC .
so it can be ommited if using something like SuperOneClick or
root by using update from sdcard method .
I think this is my last post for this thread, if no one else reply .
I hope somebody can verify which of below is the correct one:
OPS-OPS, Boot-APBOOT, Phone-CODE, PDA-[EMPTY], CSC-CSC ,EFS-MODEM (leave One Package empty)
(or)
OPS-OPS, Boot-APBOOT, Phone-MODEM, PDA-CODE, CSC-CSC (leave EFS and One Package empty)
thankx
