I got my HD7 via UPS yesterday. It was completely brand new, but when I powered it on there was some weird flickering lines all over the screen. The intensity of it has diminished but they are still present. I can't see them on black or white colors, but I can clearly see them on every other color. I have no idea what is wrong. Anybody know what is wrong or how I can fix it?
send it back.
hd7 screen issues
if you have not foundan answer, here is a post from HTC
Thanks HTC:
Dear xxxx xxxx,
thank you for contacting me about this issue.
I have looked at the forums and seen that this is a fault found on quite a few of the handsets.
The fault is not the operating system or something that Microsoft has done. It is the graphics chip located on the main board of the device.
All that needs doing is what’s known as a resink. Basically the chip is blasted with hot air to melt the flux holding the chip in place and re-establish a proper and full connection between the chip and the board.
How ever, we will require you to call into the centre so that we can book the device in for repair.
If you have any more problems, then please do not hesitate in getting in touch with us again.
Regards
Carl
I checked through the forum pages that some of other folks are also getting this problem. Not on G-Note but on G-S2 and G-Tab.
e.g. here and here
Quite evidently, the problem is with samsung.
Its like if there is a wallpaper with a color gradient, say grey at one end and black on the other; the screen shows me some area with grey and then there would be a sudden transition to black. More like a grey band and a black band put together. Looks real bad, I tell you.
Now I am rooted, on Abyss Kernel 2.5. (Stock ROM though) and I've absolutely no idea what my BINARY COUNTER is. So I am scared if I take back the phone to the Samsung guys to ask for repair/replacement, they might send me back after telling me that the warranty is void.
The purpose of this thread is to seek help to either help me resolve that issue or help me roll back to the stock ROM with 0 binary counter, so that I can go ahead with the RMA procedure.

Thanks for that link bud but that thing looks like a half cooked recipe. TBH I don't really rely on that thing and don't wanna risk bricking the phone. Also where can I get that jig ?
Ok I just realized, its not any issue with the note, its with the software.
This post really saved me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350695
I have no idea what's happened but the screen on my Z is completely unviewable. Was in my pocket, got a text took it out and it's dark (backlit making it appear grey) but with lines moving all over the place. Every now and then I get a brief glimpse of my home screen but then it disappears. The phone itself appears to be working but I can't see anything at all on the screen.
I've tried a reset (pressing vol+ and power button) but same issue right from the start (even on boot the sony logo appears as lines all over the place).
I suspect it's a hardware issue and i'll have to take it back but any thoughts before I go down that route?
Phones4U are going to do an exchange for me so problem solved but it does make me nervous about any future problems. Not even a month old yet and it's not like i've been throwing it around.

I do understand. We have to accept though that every devise we purchase there is always going to be some that are faulty. When it happens to us we tend to think its a devise problem that affects the whole range. Some people actually decide not to purchase that brand again meaning from phone to TV etc?
I am an Asus fan yet the hell I had with their range of tablets could have turned me against the brand. It didn't I own some very good Asus products.
These forums tend to be negative places as an awful lot of members only join a forum because they develop a problem. If we read every thread published here it would be impossible to purchase any phone from any brand as every single one of them has some problems.
You must, obviously, return your phone for an exchange. I hope all goes well with your replacement. It should be fine.
Hi dear XDA members,
I have some problem about my Note 5. I bought my phone 17 days ago. It is genuine. I was walking. And weather was sunny. I opened my phone and tried to call someone. Brightness was %100 (manual). I saw, Light Sensor worked (more Brightness). And Promixity Sensor worked too. Because, I was speaking with friend. I finished my call then I looked the screen:
What the….. Screen turned a green, purple, pink, black, gray, navy blue hue. I shocked and I got screenshot, then restarted Note 5. I check the screen when restarted. It was okay. I opened the screenshot for check it too. SS was ok too. This is my 1st problem. And i didn’t see this again.
Now, a 2nd problem in same day:
I’m using Swiftkey app with gray keyboard theme. I was chatting with friend. I called him (weather was sunny again) and turned back to keyboard.
What !? Gray keyboard turned a greenish hue. And I check my wallpaper (i was gray too). Its bottom lines turned a greenish hue too. Then I restarted phone and problem finished again.
Later, I called Customer Service Representative of Samsung. I explained all problem. She told me: “Format your phone. If problem isn’t finish, bring phone to service.”
Then, I formatted phone. Tested it many time. And there is no problem for 6-7 hours. BUT… I got the problem again. But I found some interesting tips to check the problem.
1. I checked *#0*# . And everyting is okay.
2. I opened my wallpaper in “Gallery” . And bring its top line to bottom line. So, gray was gray. But wallpaper’s bottom line was greenish on desktop. So, i think this isn’t Screen Panel problem. Looks like graphic bug. (Btw, notification bar's background was greenish too.)
3. I tried to active Light Sensor without “Calls” . And there is no problem about colors. Only in “Calls” . Looks like graphic bug with “Calls”
4. I didn’t restart my Note 5 when i got the problem again. I tried to lock off / lock on. And I saw: Screen turned to normal.
So, friends.. I think i will bring phone to service for research this problem. But I’m not sure. Problem looks like software bug. OR HARDWARE ? And maybe GPU problem ? (I didn't get problem in games, apps, etc.) I’m Confused…
Please help me. Must i go to service ? Or wait for new update etc.
P.S: My English isn’t so good i think. Thanks for understanding and helps.
Is my topic visible ? I'm new in forum.
Since this is a defect in their part, it should be covered under warranty. Just send it in, it is most likely a problem with the GPU or other component if even a format didn't fix it. If it was a software bug, the problem would be more widespread. It should be free of charge though because it isn't due to your use

Thanks for reply mate. I called customer service representative again. He told me: "If your phone is defective, we'll give you new Note 5 or you can take your money back. This is for new purchased phone (in 1 - 30 days)"
I will bring phone to service tomorrow. But I will be sad, if they tell me "it is software problem." I don't want to give my phone for nothing. But I don't have another way.
TY again.
Hi again mates !
I got the phone from service yesterday. They found nothing (very funny).
I spoke with employee :
* M = Me
* E = Employee
M: Did you open the phone's case for check the problem ?
E: No, I can't open the phone. This is risky.
M: So, How did you understand there is no problem ??
E: I think you used the phone as obsessively.
M: Wait. Did you tell me "obsession" ? I saw the problem with my eyes !
E: Mr. Cpt. Price, I mean: Don't care about it. Just use the phone. I used your phone for test. I saw nothing. You must take a video if you see problem. So, we can send it to SAMSUNG as proof.
M: You are very funny. I saw truth today. I saw Samsung's quality. Give me my phone.
So, guys I got the phone. And I'm using it with %98 brightness on a sunny day. So, there is no problem for now. I took that problem with %100 brightness on a sunny day. If i get that problem, I press lock off / on button. And problem is being finished.
I think I won't send it to service again. I won't spend my time for nothing. Sad but true: Apple is better than Samsung about satisfaction of service.
I will use the phone and if see a serious problem, i will go to service then.
I think that was a software problem or bug. What is your thought and advice ?
Regards...
Do you have any idea ?

They told me: We need to find a problem for change the phone. So, we can show proof to Samsung.
I don't know, how is Samsung services in other countries. But in my country: Samsung services are bad.
There were discussions and I saw lots of examples of possible solutions.
About 1 month ago, MI 9 turned itself off. I tried to boot it by power button, it started, but after few minutes it turned off again by itself with no possibility to boot it.
Okay, after few hours, I found the Volume up, Volume down and Power buttons to be simultaneously pressed, to boot it, so I tried. It started with message "The system has been destroyed". I pressed Power button once, turned it off, then again, by Power button turned it on. No data lost. All there, it did look okay. Phone booted correctly.
After few days same issue, same solution.
Then again and again, more frequently. Then I saw that I need to use hair dryer to heat it a bit, to be able to boot it.
I saw many discussions, including those here that are saying about MIUI version to be related to the issue. I don't think so.
Some users told that they finally had to send phone to service, they were told later that motherboard was replaced in order to fix the issue. I must say that issue does not look to be very rare. I saw that many MI 9's were affected (based on discussions), and, number of online shops (electronic) were selling THE motherboard for $120+. Clearly, it is visible that there is production, factory problem of one phone part.
In car (and not only car) industry, when there is a factory issue with specific part, all units were brought back to production for the bad part to be replaced, units already sold as well.
I exchanged few e-mails with Xiaomi support. First I got very generic answers. Then answers were more precise, but still not clear that they clearly recognize factory fault.
I do not have Xiaomi service close to me, so I may need to send it by mail, which I would not do (costs may be, politely said, unexpected, as they may put to the paper everything was replaced). I can bring the phone to the seller, where I bought it, to get the same unexpected results, costs up to the phone price or more, as they may put to the pricelist what they want (again not easy to trust someone who does not want to recognize own factory faults).
Clearly, this will for sure, limit my readiness to buy Xiaomi again.
Just to mention, I am having the phone turning itself off every day for more times, which is making it useless. Starting, booting works only after a bit of heating it and pressing it a bit (torque), which tells by itself that phone has some mechanical issue inside.
I would like to ask if anybody has same or similar issue and what may be resolution?
Thanks a lot.
Somehow, it looks that some series of MI 9 has the factory error on itself.
It seems that problem is mechanical, based on some construction issue.
If I am able to somehow, turn the phone on, doing next step is turning the phone off: slightly pressing upper phone part clockwise and at the same time lower phone part counterclockwise, making torque, is turning the phone off.
So, inside the phone there is electronic / construction issue, it may be related to cable, connector.
Contacting Xiaomi, with exact problem explanation is useless, I have to say that I am really disappointed in relation to everything about this phone and Xiaomi now (initially, phone worked amazingly good).
Anyone has the same issue with MI 9,or some other Xiaomi phone?
That definitely happens to me , if I double the chassis would work
Is the screen? Is the motherboard , is the chasis?
Obviously a manufacturing or design defect if multiple users are experiencing this.
May be limited to just one batch or production run, hopefully.
I removed then placed back, rear battery cover. Then, I removed and placed back upper board and battery. Next, I tried to remove and place back upper board, battery and lower board. Finally, I removed and placed back upper board, battery, upper underlying part, lower board, lower underlying part. After every single step I checked, same issue (behaving same way as I described in previous note here) - there is some badly constructed part, having loose connection. I did not try to remove screen yet.
Yes, it really is factory, production problem.
At other side, every manufacturer may make an issue in production. And there is a difference between good and bad companies.
Xiaomi can make great phones with Terapixels ( may be in near future!) of cameras and Terabytes (not so near future!) of RAM, still, if they do not recognize and have proper, correct answer to their own manufacturing errors, they are just bad.
I exchanged few e-mails with Xiaomi itself. What I got was generic, almost robotic answers. Spending time when preparing e-mails I am explaining the issue to them was total waste of time. Somehow, seems that they know about the problem but they do not want to recognize that.
And, more. Spending money to Xiaomi MI9 is waste of money. Again, phone has some really great capabilities and if it is working well, it seems to be good. When it is not working good, it's disaster. And, as it is clear, it is not rare. Many users of the phone are having this issue.
Minimum what may be expected from Xiaomi is to announce publicly that there is the problem on those and those Xiaomi Mi 9 phones, with Serial numbers starting at this or that and those phones will be replaced immediately with no questions at all.
Asking for too much?!
Maybe it can be the ic chip or the cpu , which need a reballing
Does not matter what you write to Xiaomi, generic, robotic answer is their response.
