I did the Odin one click to bring my phone back to full stock after having issues. i then downloaded ROM manager from the market, since i am running 2.1 eclair i just flashed it via the app. now to upgrade to a new rom, i need to enter download mode. I thought you could always hold in the power buttons and plug in the usb cable, but that isnt working. this CWM version doesnt have a rebbot recovery option in advanced either. really need download mode, any experts got a tip or two..
You may want to check out the "Captivate Connection Issues" thread. That should get you to download or recovery mode.
Also, it's probably best to let go of Rom Manager - it's not very useful on the Captivate.
now i am at
phone--/!\--PC
and my computer isnt recognizing the phone, as well as Odin is not either...
I'd say to keep trying, and try Heimdall if you haven't already. The phone--/!\--pc screen should work as a download mode.

Yeah it didn't work for me as download mode. I just went to radio shack bought some resisiters and made a little USB jig that got me into the regular download mode though.

DID I JUST BRICK MY PHONE??
tried flashing the i9000 rom... got messed up sometime after flashing csc and pda.... now i can boot to recovery menu and get odin to recognize but im getting an error
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not acces to /system/csc/ATT/system/
copy_common_data
then it stalls.. my power button doesnt work to reboot system now...
Even though odin recognizes i hit start and nothing happens..
can anyone help.. i will donate and make it worth your time..
No you didn't brick your phone, you need to follow the I9000 guide in the stickied threads. You need to load a Captivate kernel before fully rebooting your phone.
First off get your phone back into download mode. Pull battery and usb cable, restart Odin, then follow this method to get you into download mode, put in battery, hold down both volume buttons, keep holding them and plug in the USB cable.
First when you flash a I9000 rom make sure you uncheck autoreboot on Odin.
When this done when you flash the Rom it will say Restet in Odin. At that time pull your battery and USB cable.
Restart Odin and load the Captivate kernel. Put you battery in, hold both volume buttons, keep them held and plug in the USB cable, should go into download mode. Start Odin, and it should be fine to let it autoreboot.
I missed something it will be in the stickied thread.

can you clear something up is Android System Recovery the same as download mode??
ok this thread can be deleted.. im a noob.. kjpdx throw me a link to donate.. i figured it out by myself but atleast you replied..
Two different modes. Download mode shows an Android holding a shovel and Recovery mode is where you would install update.zips.
Needs to be in Download mode when installing roms and kernels with Odin.

Hi:
I have the same problem of my Galaxy S. It is stuck in this screen saying
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not access to /system/csc/ATT/system/
etc. etc.
I boot it to the download mode as instruction, but the Kies always shows connecting device, and it never gets connected. The Odin shows no com port or device for me to load the firmware. Can anyone help? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks! I couldn't get download mode and this is the only thread online to help. I received this error when trying to install the voodoo lagfix while running cognition 2.2 beta 7. (for some reason, my cognition did not have the lagfix built in)

That reason is that voodoo doesn't work with 2.2
For the sake of your wallet, I would read the threads more carefully before flashing new roms if I were you. I'm not trying to be a ****, but this issue was addressed many times in the cognition thread. I'm all for learning from others on this forum after they make the mistakes
When i updated to the new official froyo via kiesin i got the missing recovery mode i didnt have before this update. Now when i tested if i could get the phone in Download mode i don't have that, haven't had that before either so my question is how can i fix that? Because sooner or later im going to flash another roms.

I answer my self, i actually got my phone to download mode now! Very strange because i tried many times and made the same process every time and finally it gone to download mode. The same thing with recovery mode, don't get that either every time or it can be that i release the power button too early/late. But case closed both mode works so that's fine. Mod can delete this thread!!

Plug the phone on USB cable and try to get recovery or downloading mode again...
Tried flashing an I9000 rom over a previous I9000 rom and now the phone doesn't boot up all the way. It gets past the AT&T World phone and Samsung splash screens but then goes to a blank screen in which the capacitive buttons are responsive and the phone will vibrate once, accompanied by 2 faster vibrations.
I've tried all the different button holds to get into download mode but none of them seem to work. ADB doesn't work either so Odin3 isn't an option atm.
Is my only option to buy a dongle to force download mode?
yes, you need to buy/make a jig. once you get your phone into download mode, you need to flash the stock rom with the button fixes, as you should have done before flashing anything else.
Read the sticky and try the other method before getting a jig... might work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
If all else fails you can make a cheap jig with 3 resistors and no soldering for under $1 from radio shack... search the captivate forum for 3 resistor jig
you said the 3 button doesn't work, but did you try pulling the battery, SIM and micro SD out, then plug into computer, then hold volume UP and Down and THEN insert the battery while connected to PC and pressing both volume buttons, should go to download in a second. at least mines did when none of the 3 button combination worked

Yah, forgot about the whole flashing back to stock thing since I hadn't used the thing for a couple weeks now. I'd only been using an Incredible for different roms. I think I'll just make a jig later.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work? I tried it on my captivate and can't get it in download mode.
EDIT: Is it possible at all to boot into cwm and flash a nandroid backup?

Yes because you have no 3button combo. Your only bet would be to use a jig to get into download mode. And no I would not even try to do a nandroid backup because those can cause the same issue unless you are running the same Kernel as the backup.
Ok, have made the jig and am now in download mode. One problem though, even though I have the drivers installed for Windows X64, it is being read as an unknown device. So still no luck with Odin.
Any ideas?

Try win 32 driver
Or google samsung captivate
Go to web page for device
Near bottom is a link to download manual, click, should be a link for software, click, download drivers from there.
You may have top direct your computer to the drivers, when you get the unknown device click direct computer to where the drivers are

That's what I did and still nothing. I'll just keep trying it and let you know if I vet it working.
I had the same issue and still no luck. In download mode and even pointing it to drivers doesnt work. Like its not recognizing it as a android device even though its in download mode
I have videos for ODIN...Check my sig...
Ok, after about 1000 tries and getting ready to lose hope, I got it to work by holding it a different way. I think it was just a USB cord problem in the end. Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately, my other phone, Samsung Focus, took an unfortunate fall preceeding this fix making this win feel kind of insignificant.
Any one ever have this problem? I was on phoenix flashed CM7 and now I can't get into dl mode. I know how to use one click. My phone is off volume up/down plug USB in and phone just starts up. Any thoughts? Jig is on the way. Hope it will work.
Thanks

You can try bay_wolf's AIO toolbox...flashing to stock automatically puts the phone into download mode.
Looks like a different odin I dont need to be in dl mode for this to work?

It's designed to initiate download mode on its own.
will give that a try once i get a windows PC running 7
thanks

vista will work too if you install the .net framework he links to.
but it basically initiates download mode by sending an adb command to your phone.
so you can try adb or a terminal emulator on your phone, (i dont know more on that issue)
or does CM7 have the advanced power menu working? EG hold power, select download mode from menu?
or does CM7 have a nice recovery? with Advanced Option> reboot to download mode? just like our CWM recovery does?
or do jigs still work with CM7? they are easy to make, from 1 -4 resistors twisted together... (trick is to not touch both ends with the same finger or at all USE TAPE TO HOLD HOMEMADE JIGS!!!)
i dunno you might be screwed!.... im stumped
So I tried bay_wolf AIO and that did not work. I tried terminal emulator and all that did was reset the phone. Hope the jig is in the mail today the one i made all it did was reset the phone.
Jig got me in dl mode
Now time to return to att for charge death and random shut downs.

hmm.. So it shows the yellow download pic and right after that goes into recovery? You tried to pull out battery and restart to download mode right after that? you got usb cable connected while doing that?
For me it worked always but again i got GT-I9000 but i would not imagine its that different with these two phones? Never heard of this kind of problem.. one more thing i can think of is trying to use the custom made usb dingle what are sold for example in ebay or you make one yourself that goes into download mode without button combination.
Try to update to latest firmware with kies too if that would solve the problem.. for me i had to do that the first time i started to play around with my phone because before that update i could not even go to download mode.
Thats all i can think about after drinking 10 cans of beer so hopefully even 1 of those helps your case. Hope you get it to work
-_-
Any other solutions besides buying a usb jig? I know there's a way to get it into download mode WITHOUT the phone even showing the android shoveling image. And the screen is just plain black. I forgot how to do it though, and what website I read the article.
you can build a usb jig http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551&highlight=usb+jig
you can also read guides here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596

I had the same problem. It was solve when I realise that the Korean version (M110S) enter DL mode by pressing only home key+power, while the I9000 need the 3 bottons combination.
