Ok, I've come across a couple of posts here relating to Data Dropping issues and Blaming them on the Revo... Don't give up on your Revo just yet, especially if your issues have been ongoing for the past 3-4 days.
For the past few days I've been playing around with a couple of HTC Thunderbolts to see if having all the custom ROMs were worth anything. (Revo Lacks them aside from MT's awesome efforts!).
Well, I thought the HTC's were having Data Dropping issues. Going back and forth from the Thunderbolts to the Revo, it was really weird on the timing. What a lot of people don't know is that Verizon has been having a lot of Data issue the past few days. I hope that you haven't been having those issue and thinking it's your phone and it's really Verizon.
It seemed that anytime I would begin to access the Internet, via my phone, tether, or whatever else means from the Phone's data, the data would drop out and take a while to come back in. Having 3qty HTC Thunderbolts (got crazy deals on them) and my Revo, I was able to pinpoint the DATA Issues being with Verizon and NOT the phones, including my Revo. All 4 phones having issues??? I don't think so. It's Verizon!!!!
So, take this as a warning. You aren't going to hear about every time Verizon has an outage. They will hide that information because it's bad PR. It's always good to have another phone around you can slip your SIM Card into and see if that one is having issues also.
I just wanted to make note of that because the timing was the worst it could be. the past few days I was going nuts trying to find a ROM that was cool and worked without issues. Kept having Data Drops. One ROM seemed to 'slow' that down, but think it was just timing.
Anytime you have these 'Data Drops', go to your local Verizon store and 'play with the demo phones'!!! This will also give you hands on insight if the data on your phone is an issue or if it's Verizon.
Believe me, the past 3 days, it's been all over the place. So far today, I've had strong reliable signal. I rely on my Data connection, even paying for the HotSpot service. So, when Data is out, I'm not on the net. (unless I can find a local Open router, lol)..
Hope this information helps.
OH, and BTW.. Although the HTC Thunderbolt had some nice ROMs, FM Radio built in, and ability to switch 3g/4g on the fly (no reboots), I still love the Revo wayyyy better. Especially with the work MT has done. (Although, MT, I may have to get back at you with the USB Tethering with 2.0... Would FC Settings when activating. Gotta check thread for anything already said and fixed first. )
-Cybie
EDIT: By Pre-Mature, one both ends of the spectrum. Those getting rid of Revo's for Data Drops, and for me to jump in with this post??? What your thoughts everyone? Am I on to something, or Revo's suddenly taking a dive in the Data connection world???
I've had this issue since I got the revolution. After Verizon sent me a replacement revo , it had the same issues so I flashed gingervolt 1.3 on it. I don't know if it was timing or just the rom but the data connection was much better. It very rarely dropped data connection. The last couple days seem to have been worse though , and I flashed gv2.0 right before it started doing it again.

Unfortunately my issue has been since I got my phone too. I just got tired of it lol.

I never had the issue until I went out to eat one night. I tried calling a Co worker, data was there, but the second I dialed out: nothing. I lost all data and connectivity. I tried switching over to 4g and that was a bust too,I was not in a 4g area. Knowing my phone kicks ass, I knew that could not be the issue, so I figured it was the density of the building our it was a bad tower. I walked outside and my phone worked fine. With phones relying on so many things to function it's hard to automatically blame the phone. Yesterday tune in was being dumb for me, but I figured it was just the app itself.

If its on cdma network it wont have data and call connection at the same time. If its on 4g it can tho

I've noticed DRAMATIC worsened signal and slower data speeds since HSPA+ got turned on. The whole reason I switched to T-mobile has turned against me, I now experience the connectivity issues from holding the phone that were previously non existent to me and I'm almost always on EDGE. If it does connect to HSPA its unusably slow whereas it used to be close to 2mb speeds prior to their "upgrade" anyone else experiencing this?

Yes I was near Beverly hills today off the 10 and I particularly had zero 3g, lost service completely, then it stayed on edge. This area never did this before. I bet they are doing network maintenance or something. Which area are you having problems?
Hopefully that's what the issue is, maintenance. I'm in downtown-hollywood most of the time and have always had great service, until the pay few days, always dropping calls, slow data, etc...

YES same exact thing with my buddy's t-mo N1 when we were downtown.
Compared each others device (got an att vers.) he didnt even have access to maps. But he's been crying about it for a while now, even in Santa Monica he would have some reception trouble and connecting to EDGE.
Last time he told me he found a work-around and got a widget turning the thing on and off to reset but I honestly don't believe that's a workaround..
maintenance, yeah better chance. found an article stating t-mo working on 4G, hopefully itll make you feel better. Try and keep your phone nice and clean b/c hopefully the N1 is rockin by then.
t-mo to 4g maintenance.
Other cities have reported similar issues while upgrading to hspa + so I'm confident it'll get better, i mean before this is was fantastic for meso I don't really see how it would get worse

Is there a way to have the phone try to reconnect to data? I guess I live on a fringe area.
the 4G LTE indicator (or 3g) hasn't come on all night long.
Could there possibly be a service outage around here?

Nope, it's the phone. I hard reset & it still does it. Called verizon, they know about it, so does motorola. They're expecting a MR in Nov.
Actually it was "juicedefender" that disabled data.. Got it back

I am also having this problem. If Motorola still used vanilla android this wouldn't be an issue. I hate when manufacturers feel it necessary to fix something that isn't broke. I am sad to see how many people are experiencing this problem because if it was isolated to my phone and a few others then a warranty replacement would do the trick. I now feel like I wasted 380 on phone and accessories. I placed a call to Verizon tech support and their as clueless as usual. I hope an update is released soon that fixes this issue (or a custom rom). I remain hopeful that we start seeing good things on our Motorola devices now that google owns moto.
NOTE: I wish people would start reading through existing threads before starting new ones. I started a thread to this effect back on day 3. Several others have started threads to this effect as well. I think there are now 4 or 5 on this very same subject.

I had nothing but horrible reception, dropped calls, and rarely data connection. I went into the store today luckily the phone did it while I was at the store, I had the rep call tech support and tech support said exchange it. They gave me another brand new bionic and SIM card and signal has been great so far at home where previously had no signal and had to use wifi all the time. I will see tomorrow how it is at work where I also had no signal but the thunderbolt did even though I sit right by our data center.
So far new bionic and sim has worked nothing else has
The original topic that I posted was a different problem than what the majority of people in here have *****ed about me starting a new thread..
My problem stemmed from a stupid program that disabled mobile data for battery saving purposes..
Called Verizon Today
When I called Verizon today I spoke to technically support and they told me this random data loss is a known problem with all the Motorola Droid Bionics and that they are currently working on a fix, and it is to be released the first week of October.
I just turn Airplane mode on and off.
From what I've played with, my Bionic has a strong and clear data (3G/4G) and voice signal. I am in an area that's very urban and strong network coverage, though.

I pulled my battery to restart my phone this morning since we don't have a restart option. When the phone booted up I had lost my data connection. I then turned on airplane mode, waited about a minute than turned if back off and everything was back to normal. This is the first time this has happened to me and i have had my bionic since release day.

I would personally get the phone exchanged out immediately. Since I got my replacement I have not had disconnects and havent seen 3g only 4g two bars minimum including at my desk next to a data center. Definitely a bad batch of phones/sims out there.

Same with me. Gotta love living in a big city, bathed in LTE coverage.
This is getting old, I thought when I traded in my POS thunderbolt I was done with these problems. Hard reset, pulled SIM, pulled battery, & still nothing. Someone please remind me why I'm paying $110+ a month for service that seems to always have problems. I'm not rooted, was told to get new SIM from VZW..too bad they are closed at 11 pm

recently i took a road trip from FL to MI. Not even an hour into the trip i lost all data connectivity. when i called VZ i was xferred to tier 2 support. when they couldn't help me they xferred me to the 4G support team. they couldn't help me either so the guy figured my radio was toast and sent me a new phone but also left my ticket open for additional research. once i hit the Atlanta area my 4G lit up and all was well. but the moment i left a 4G area i was dead in the water. the next day I was called back on the open ticket. the tech told me they were pushing a hybrid PRL to my phone b/c the region i was traveling in (and where i live) had a lot of old alltel towers. well low and behold my data connection has been flawless since. no more handoff issues either whereas before i was dropping the data connection almost daily.
not sure if this would resolve your issue but perhaps its worth a shot. call tech support and ask to speak to the 4G group - maybe say they were helping you before and you need to follow up just in case there are any restrictions to who they transfer to that dept.

I have had days where my data goes in and out all day long and other days where my data is solid all day. The other day, a day when I left my GPS in my wife's car and was traveling out of town, I lost data for the entire day. I called VZW tech support and of course they didn't know as much about the phone as I did and couldn't help. I am rooted, running the latest update pulled from the Motorola servers. I am afraid to take it in to Verizon because I don't want them to see that the phone is rooted and refuse to help me. Right now, if I unroot, the only way they would be able to tell that the phone had been rooted is because I can't revert to the old baseband, so I figure I'll wait for the official update to roll out, try that if it is different that what I already have, and if that doesn't fix it, I can bring it in to Verizon because my baseband will then match stock, updated phones. I agree, this a really frustrating situation that we shouldn't be paying for.

Yes. Some days everything is fine, some days, not so much. Since it's so erratic, it's hard to say if the new radio improved anything.
I find I only drop 3g never 4g even then an airplane toggle usually brings it right back.

I'm having the same issues... Also on leaked radio.. but now with new radio when I leave 4g area add I did yesterday.. I lost all data connection, until I returned to 4g area, and did a batt, sd, and Sim card pull.. I really regret this garbage phone.. I average 60GB a month
on my thunderbolt.. Can barely use ten on this hunk of crap.
I've heard of this and it finally hit me about two weeks ago. After about a week of being on unofficial .905 with a motofail root my 4G stopped. I tried progressive measures until finally just doing a factory reset and flashing stock .902. After that still no 4G. Then I let the phone stock update to .905, still no 4G (i mean literally never and I live right next to a strong Verizon 4G tower.
After the .905 update i tried pulling the sim and then rebooting, changing Android ID with Titanium, then reinstalling sim while subsequent reboot was ongoing. After doing this twice I got 4G with full bars for about ten minutes before going back to 3G. After that I could never get 4G again no matter what.
So last night I updated to the ICS 33 build hoping for a change. Nothing. I did a clear data and change Android ID, pulled sim a million different ways. It's just not going to happen for me. This phone has never been wet, abused, or had a custom ROM, btw.
So i called Verizon this morning and here is where my question comes in. I was honest with then on all that I've done to the phone and their basic response was: "we know the Bionic has an LTE issue and will send you another free at no cost right now." That's pretty awesome, but I'm now worrying about protecting the phone from losing LTE ability again. I really like the ICS leak and want to install it as soon as I get the new phone, but I don't want anymore LTE problems.
Are there any strong theories on why this happens? Anything to avoid? I'm leaning toward thinking it may be a hardware thing affecting a certain batch and then convoluted by the refurb tendencies of the day. Does that sound logical?
On a side note, if anyone has something they want tested let me know. I can do it to the 4G crapped phone before returning.
I had an issue with one Bionic where the 4G drivers kept disappearing, and then finally one day never came back. They replaced my phone. It happened once on my new phone when I first had it, but hasn't occurred since. I personally think the 4G radio gets burned out and shuts down, but have no way of proving it.
Insane! Just got done doing done housework and now i have LTE; the usual 4-5 bars.
I am now thoroughly confused. It hasn't worked once in over a week.
So now i get to see how the battery on 2233 holds up with LTE. Running 905 with 3G only was a treat in that one respect. I was getting 33 hours typically. That's with checking news and Facebook like 30 times a day, at least a call an hour, steady Wordfued games, Bluetooth/GPS on all the time.

I hadnt seen this thread before just now. All the pieces come together.
Im itching to move to ICS but am concerned about GPS reliability as i use mine for geocaching.
Im running the .230 leak still and have no issues at all. I havent moved to any newer leak for that reason. Im stable and everything seems to work.

4G is not a Bionic issue
Verizon can say what they want - but the 4G issue is localized.
I travel a lot - from VA to PA frequently, and out to Denver regularly. A couple months ago 4G just went away (note that Richmond and Denver both have extensive 4G coverage).
I can get 4G in Newport News, VA, but not in Richmond, Denver, or anwhere between Richmond and PA (like DC or any of Eastern MD, or Delware). These are all places where I used to get 4G consistently.
I've tried multiple reboots. Nope - only place I now get 4G is Newport News. I also have firends/coworkers on Verizon (my company uses it), and NO ONE can get 4G in Richmond any more, on any phone.
My 4G cut out this morning in a certain area...I typically get 4G in that area and it is on an extended 4G coverage area. I noticed my phone lost 4G rather than switch over to 3G. I saw it go from blank to 1X to 3G and never recovered to 4G. I am currently in a 3G area atm and won't know if something's changed til i go home where I will pass thru the extended 4g then 4g.
In Boston I frequent a few areas and for over 2 WEEKS 4G would not function near one of my haunts. It used to be 4 bars and had decent speeds, then all of a sudden whenever I was in the area my phone would keep switching from 4G to 3G, but if I walked a couple blocks down the street I had a full 4G signal again and data worked perfectly. After the first week the problem became even worse, the phone would get stuck with a white 4G symbol and would keep toggling from white to blue but never got a connection and thus the only way I could use data in the area was to use wireless. Again if I walked a couple blocks down the street I had a full 4G signal and perfect data. Then one day the problem just went away.
I've heard similar stories from others around the country so it appears Verizon is having serious localized issues with some of the LTE towers. This happened in late June through the first week of July and I haven't experienced the problem since.
I should note I also did have the issue where 4G stopped working completely when I installed one of the leaked GB builds and the solution in that case was pulling the SIM card, rebooting, then replacing the SIM card and all worked again after about 10 minutes.
currently in middle of Fresno, CA and no 4g...
I had major 4G issues with my Thunderbolt.... I just bought a Bionic and now I am having the same issues.
Luke
I rebooted my phone in a 4G area this morning. The 4G icon popped up briefly and then quickly disappeared to the 3G icon. I never had 4G problems before and now this is happening. I am annoyed but not to the point where I need to switch phones.
I recently (last week) got the HTC One coming from the HTC LTE and notice that it seems like every few minutes I lose network connectivity. More specifically when listening to streaming music. Even if the phone is stationary and doesn't matter what part of town (Kansas City), that I have where the music stops and buffers. Also had dropped a call on a road that I never had issues with phone calls before.
The phone was rooted, and took it to the Sprint store and they told me that the towers in town were all flaky (bad thing to say about their network), and that they didn't have a method of testing the radio. That night that I took it to the Sprint store, the girlfriend tried to call me and didn't receive the call and she sent me 3 texts that actually showed up while the CSR was holding the phone, showing that it was delayed by 2 hours. They did a profile update (think honestly they just wanted me out the door).
So I used the RUU to flash back to 100% stock once I got home to ensure it wasn't something that I did rooting the phone. Having done that, over the last few days still having the network buffering issues (didn't have that with my old phone), and haven't had any delayed texts (that I know of).
Question is do you believe them at the store that it is a wide are Sprint tower issue, or that it could be my phone? Don't want to wait too long, and end up with a refurbished one either (someone else's problem phone). Is anyone else having the same type of issues that might be able to be fixed with a software flash????
Thanks in advance!
I know lately I've been having dropped calls a lot. Two tonight actually with decent signal. Idk if it's my replacement phone or a rom I flashed.
Sort of tough to figure out which it could be.

Tried my girlfriends phone using Tune-In listening to the same channel and her phone does the same thing. She also have the HTC One. Just wonder if power management is just too tight and not enough processor to keep the stream going. Full bars in a 4G area and still buffers. Even when sitting still in my house!
Just very frustrating!
Mine was doing it too. Dial ##72786# and reset network settings. The phone will reboot and go through the hands free activation... After that I have not had any issues... FYI, I'm actually a tech at a corporate sprint store, and I'm surprised by how many reps don't know that ##code. The network being flaky is a real thing because of network vision upgrades taking large sections of our footprint offline for upgrades, although I can understand that it hardly instills confidence in our customers... However it is not a catch all for what could be a hardware issue.

Well, still having the issue after driving to Wisconsin. Dropped streaming music, and while using GPS app, get lost and now in coverage area messages. Made the trip many times before and honestly NEVER have had an area where I lost service.
Decided to not take no for an answer and took my phone to the local corporate Sprint store and the lady said well, nothing we can do about it. I said nothing? She said that they don't have LTE here and now way of truly testing the phone. I asked there was no other test that they could run?
She responded that they could run some really basic tests but it probably wouldn't show up (i.e. she wanted me to go away and not waste their time testing the phone). But stuck to my guns and left it with them for an hour.
When I returned, she made sure that she was the one that there to tell me the results, which according to her that the phone "once" failed a particular test, kind of hinting that it passed it other times.
She said that the phone should be in today, coming via UPS. I told her that that if it wasn't in today that I wouldn't' be in the area due to leaving for another part of the state then heading back to the KC area (this was last Monday) and they didn't have the HTC One in stock which she said no, they didn't carry it.
Then as I was leaving she asked if I was get a survey call, if I would rate my visit with them as a 4...
Going to throw a fit if they give me a refurbished phone since I have had the phone less than a month and had problems from day one.
Data Loss During 3G/4G Change
I experience the same thing in the Minneapolis St. Paul area. I drive a lot for work and as I'm driving and the phone switches between towers I loose data connectivity completely for 30-40-60 seconds, sometimes more. I can sit there and watch the 3G/4G indicator go from lit up to dark during the switchover. It's really frustrating if you're using a data app like music streaming. I initially thought it was only happening when switching between 3G and 4G towers, but lately I've noticed it also happens between 3G towers, although 3G/4G is definitely worse.
I hope this is not a phone issue and is only a temporary tower upgrade issue.
Do you have EVDO enabled?
*#*#4636*# I think. Then change the data preferences.

In general it seems like this phone doesn't receive the best signal.

Interesting. We have a 4G tower near us in Shorewood. I think the tower is around Hwy 5 and Powers Blvd in Chanhassen. Once I lock into the 4G tower I'm fine - it doesn't drop data, but it always drops it when switching between 3G and 4G. Last night I was driving to Jordan for a meeting and watched it all the way down. Not bad switching from 3G to 3G towers, but as soon as I hit the 4G tower signal in Jordan I lost signal. After watching it closer I noticed that the data indicator sometimes goes away completely on the phone, and when that happens it's like a minute or two before it restarts.
I'm going to put in a request for technical assistance from Sprint and see what they have to say about it. Maybe this is just the way the system and phone works since 3G and 4G are so different, but I sure hope not. It's annoying.
