HELLO, every kind souls out there
I looking into changing my HTC Touch Enhanced to a Diamond.
I would like to get some infor regards to the performance of Diamond.
Anyone can give some feedback on this Diamond???
I had heard tat the 3D Flo interface is kind of lagging, the touch interface is lagging as well.....
Is these true?
No.
Especial with the enormous speed of new ROMS available, those little bugs from the beginning are less and less.
Thanks Riel,
I understand that the lagging problem can be reduce by change newer ROM.
but is there offical ROM from HTC??
I dun wan to void the warrenty from HTC, so i'm looking at offical ROM from HTC....
I am using the latest official ROM from HTC for my region (1.37.401.3 WWE) - seems pretty quick to me

I have the same version but swedish... it infact IS lagging and bugs out alot, atleast for me and two of my friends, that is for 3 persons. For instance going to sms/email "tabs" takes ages and the animations arent really so smooth for anything. But i do agree that this is probably something thats going to be fixed very soon even officially from HTC roms and even with these problems it is still a great phone that i love to use.
I get no lag at all on SMS/ Messaging tabs on this ROM, animations are smooth.
The only time I experience lag is just after closing Opera - seems to take the device a couple of seconds to settle down after using that prog.
So is 1.37.401.3 WWE the latest version of ROM around for diamond?
I jus saw the diamond at the shop....
I"M GOING CRAZY....
i love the diamond phone...
I worry the software will be slow ... cos i'm using Touch Enhanced now... i feel the software is slow....
Especially when i urgently need to open my contact list to find phone number....
there are times when i feel like throw my Enhance on the floor while waiting for the contact list to appear....
Could anyone compare the speed between Touch Enhanced and Touch Diamond?
so many threads about this, so many...too many. over and over again....nobody bother to search, first post-first thread...damn!
now, i am calm, i am cool and nothing can make me use the politically incorrect words like noob and other not so flattering adjectives...
lagging is relative. depends what you expect. go and read reactions at the new ROMs (6-7 threads maybe), you'll see the improvements, stop believing what you "had heard"
and if you are so worried about loosing the warranty don't buy the diamond. personally i don't get it...what the rush when making a call, why use the contacts list when you have:
-smart dialing.
-favorite contacts (with pics) for the most used contacts.
btw, i bet you have over 1-200 contacts. i have 600 and over 1200 numbers i don't see any lag.
now, is that enough? can we stop this thread?

Do you have any screen caps from this ROM? Do you know if the FB integratoin works on this one? Do you know if the Photo Album picture orientation issue is there in TF3D tab? Do you know if the Tabs under the picture in Favs in People Tab in TF3d are mapped correctly to the actual number rather than dial the number you have selected while adding the Fav (For ex. You dial work or Home, it still calls the cell if you have selected the cell number while adding the faves).
Sorry too many Q, but since you are posting some one elses cooked ROM with just a download link with No reference to the actual Chef's information.. I am asking you all this with the assumption you have flashed this ROM.
For now I'm testing this rom and for me everything working fine. But I'm not expert

I have just flashed to this ROM and played with it for 2 hours here are my feebacks:
This ROM used Rhodium version so new start menu
seetings -->all settings from start menu works fine
-I tried to record a video from htc album, no problem to play it after I don't notice any lag
-Youtube works like a charm no lag
-Adding favorite to people works fine, changing contacts pictures is done without issue only one thing I noticed you may have a black screen for 2 or 5 seconds after selecting the picture for the contact.
-Google Map is not the latest version (this is not a bug) you can still upgrade to the latest one
-I can't complain about the speed of the ROM it looks fast to me
-Synchronisation to exchange server works fine
-Mettings are read by a lady voice when you have a notification.
-TT7 works fine
-Myphone works fine
-TFLO rotation works fine
-Battery usage seems to be good
Problem:
-From HTC Album pictures does not auto rotate
-Home button and back button problem still there
-No Zoom slider when using Opera (It's not a bug it must be related to the version used) but still good to know
What I don't test:
-Checking if this ROM has ring tone problem
KARMBA thanks for sharing your ROM, you've done an excellent job
I will continue to play with it tomorow and will report if any bug
I think I will keep it for a while, no crash during my testing

Thanks for your observations, I ended up flashing it myself and concur with your remarks. It's a full featured ROM, not much removed, hence the size. For Visagdude, it has the same bug with the Fav tabs, only dials the one number regardless of which button you use, otherwise a nice ROM. Not sure that it's as fast as Davide's or HN's, but seems to be less buggy, quite stable and smooth. Think I'll try it for a bit longer.
My 2 pence...
Just tried this ROM for around 30 minutes and it seemed fine however...
* The camera no longer has the 5mp setting and the screen goes white for a few seconds after taking a picture.
* The orientation issue that is in Dutty's 2.1 is in this rom which appears to have the new album.
* Cannot set personal ringtone, only the default ones.
* The Internet tab is not the new one as in the Davideuck v2.
Stopped at this point as it was late and am about to flash back to Dutty's 2.0 ROM. Too many issues with this one.
Hey.. guys.. actually after asking those Qs in the post, I downloaded the ROM and flashed it on the way home from work (I have over 1 hour commute). I played around with it for a while and here are my impressions...
- This is the new Rodhium ROM with the icons Start menu.
- The ROM feels fast and stable.
- Exchange Sync is Good and immediate (No issues)
- Camera I felt works a bit better and faster in taking pictures.
- Front Camera: For the 2nd time in this forum, I have experienced the front camera of my device working and it is AWESOME. While storing "My Contact car" in the Picture if you choose the camera option, the front camera gets activated. The other ROM that has this feature was "onkolog's" lite version. Both these ROMs feel similar except onkolog's ROM has exchange synch issue.
- G-Sensor: This ROM has an app called Gsensor, which gives us 2 simple options Enable G-Sen and Disable G-Sen. Choosing either will result in a soft reset and it works perfect.
- Opera: There is no zoom bar in this ROMs Opera. No issues with Opera.
- No Push Pages for Opera Favs.
- Face Book: No FaceBook integration. It gives the text while saving My Contact card but never gives the option on the next screen.
- TF3D Pictures orientation does not have any issues.
- Speed dail contacts does dails only one number for different tabs like every other Rohdium ROM I have flashed (And I have tried ALL of them
All in all... A very stable and Fast ROM. I have decided to use this over the weekend.
Good Job Chef... Please fix the ones I have mentioned.. this ROM will be very popular.

Great ROM
Hi people!
I'm very surprised with this ROM
I flashed my HD last night and until now, this appears to be the most stable ROM with this new Manila interface.
The only bug that I have here is the 3M of the camera, the rest is all OK.
During today I will do more tests to see how he behaves.
Great Job...GREAT ROM

I'm sure we tried the same ROM. I did not chk the 3 mp settings for the camera until you mentioned it. but here is the thing, for the first time I am able to take pictures of my One year old, since he is never steady. I'm evening able to send 'em via email to my friends and family. since I Don't ha ve 3g in the US for this device, 3MP pics really help.
Ring Tones: Yes you are right, cannot assign personal ring tones.
FYI - I'm typing this message from my device .
thanks a lot

I am only saying that I am glad that I am able to take decent pics with this ROM of my kids.. which never was possible when I had the 5 MP camera. No doubt the 5 MP camera takes one of the best pictures when the target is steady... But, why would I use a Cell Phone camera... Personally, I would use my Cell Phone camera coz.. its usually always with me and when I want to capture a moment with my family or kids, or want to share something with my friends and family... I would want to use it. Sadly till now the HD camera did not really help me in this aspect. My wife uses an iPhone which has 2 MP camera and her phone takes better pics than my "5MP" HD camera...
I rest my case.

To enable "old" LargeMenu (Disable new manila start menu):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu\Enable ManilaStartMenu =dword:00000000
To show favorites programs page on manila:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\Manila://programs.page.hidden =dword:00000000
This will revert new Manila with old Start Menu.....

From my experience Dutty 2.1 Extreme is the best! You can fix all the bugs searching latest Dutty ROM thread.
No, I´m using Dutties Xtreme ROM V2.1 and there´s no bug - at least that cannot be solved. Give it a try, it´s much better than the old manila.

I don't know what happends the last three, four weeks, but not the ROMS are so bad or have so many bugs, but some people here do so!
I use Davideuck_V-2_HP and therefore Dutty's HD V2.1 XTREM. There are some few things which are not perfect, but all standard(!) functions are working, the roms are stable and I will say mostly bug-free. Much better then the stock ROMs.
So, what happends?

I'm still looking for a "bug-free" ROM with the new manila.
Davideuck_V-2 is a good ROM, but not perfect. here are some very annoying bugs :
1. Youtube app lags
2. Inside 'People Tab', in case you have a person with 2 numbers (mobile + work), try tapping the 'Work' button and you'll find out that it will call to the
mobile instead.
3. You can send files via Bluetooth, but you can't receive.
4. Can't view attachments in SMS. if someone send you a picture in SMS/MMS you can see the attachment icon but you can't view it.
If you know a ROM with the new manila without these bugs i will flash it right now.

There are 2 things you are talking about. You need be very clear on what you want.
Lately there are 2 knids of ROMs that are being cooked.
One With Topaz
One With Rohdium.
If you just need a ROM with the new Manila... go for the Topaz ROM.
Based on my experience... the David's V2 ROM with Topaz is almost bug free... except for the YouTube lag. Only in David's Tpoaz ROM I have seen the FaceBook integration working perfectly. Not in Dutty's...
Dutty's 2.1 is also pertty good except the FB integratio does not work.
The Bugs you have pointed out with the people tab calling only one number.. is an issue with Rohdium ROM not the Topaz one.
According to me.. The Rohdium ROM is the one with most of the BUGs... not the Topaz (David's is 99% perfect).
still all beta stuff anyway so hey, that's what we have

Thanks for sharing this information with me. 'Davideuck's Rohdium' is the first
ROM i have ever flashed since i got my HD, and in fact this is the only cooked ROM i've used so far.
About FB integration - i don't really need this. Here are few "must" features
for me on a ROM :
No mp4/youtube playback problems - watching videos on my blackstone is one of the reasons i bought it.
ICR - the ability to record calls with no problems. worked great on Rohdium.
New manila V3 - i just love the TF3d.
GPS - using it alot and can't afford problems with this feature.
New Start Menu - just like in Rohdium.
Also i need basic phone features to work well. SMS, MMS, No white images
when a caller doesn't have an image (some says Topaz has this problem) and
so on..
New Manila
I'm still looking for a "bug-free" ROM with the new manila.
But I can't get it. New Manila have so much change,I like it!

facebook can be added to rhodium, im still looking into it and im probably bout 80% through sorting it out, to add it use m9editor find settings.xml file from the _manilla files in both topaz and rhodium and compare the differences' youll notice a section completely missing from rhodium to do with people updates, add missing lines to rhodium settings.xml and upload the changed file,(there is also a few other diffrences im looking into)
This doesnt get it 100% working but i now have the facebook options and still testing other files that may be different or missing, i just run out of time last night
The manilla settings file is 26948339_manila, if anyones intrested ill upload my changes for them
there is also some files missing/different that need to be sorted through
if you know so much about it please tell me how you do this integration?
Its not that i know so much about it, i just spent time examining the files available to me, and worked it out anyone is capable of doing it, all the information is there,
Ive had this phone for a bit more then a month and started using the kitchens about a week ago, so as i said its not really about me knowing so much, just a matter of taking the time to work it out,
depending on what source your getting the files from you will have different experience, Heres wat i know.
26948339_manila (i think in m9editor this shows as manila.xml not settings.xml)
100% rhodium oem package (what i was working with) is missing quite a few lines of code which i metioned in my above post, you need to add those into the file and also make sure they havent been disabled.
but i had a look in some of the released roms n it seems atleast on davide's v2 rom the the info is in the file, it has just been disabled look for the <!-- at the beggining of the line remove it and also the closing --> then the line is no longer disabled
Files
Some files are missing from the oem package and also from some of the chefs roms but you can get them from the topaz oems floating around.
All this is from memory i finish work in 45 minutes then back to work on the phone so if i get time ill up the files for you and all you have to do is copy them into your windows folder
Pop over to the HTC site and atke a look at this - it looks gob smackingly awesome
look at htc youtube that bl**dy awsome

It's a "google-mobile-phone" (-> Android and not WinMo). ;-) Why Google should support Outlook, if they had an own (online-)pendant.
if any one has seen the "a week with the htc hero" videos from coolsmartphone on youtube, you will notice that the multitouch isn't present in all applications, so far it was demonstrated on the browser and pictures, but when the guy was using google maps, he wasn't pinching out to zoom in, he was using the zoom in button,
any one know if that will be implemented in the future firmware release?

Good observation. Still way better than the aging looking winmo though. Would be nice to have consistent interface still. Wonder why this is not enforced.
I hope the application store takes off more quickly. The device is not going to meet my requirements if I can't find replacements for my frequently used software applications, regardless of how slick the UI is.
Perhaps someone could start a new thread to share information on available applications for Hero?
Well, the HTC Hero is running on Android 1.5 so im asuming it should be able to run all the apps out so far (i may be wrong though)
n e ways i put some thought into why multitouch isnt on the google maps application, and this is what I think.
We all know now, that the HTC Hero isnt a "by Google" phone, The G1 and the Magic are but the Hero isnt.
Secondly, I remember reading somewhere that Google wouldnt put multitouch capability into their software because Apple requested it, hence the reason the G1 and the Magic dont have multitouch even though the hardware supports it.
So HTC must have realised that in order to compete with Apple they need to implement multitouch thus created their own picture viewer software and made a few alterations to the browser to enable multitouch, but other then that I doubt its going to be universal across the whole platform.
in my opinion , the one and only one downside of whole manila 2.5 is its messaging app..i dont understand why its so buggy..i have seen htc messaging in manila 2.1 quite good and effective..no reason why htc has changed a stable messaging version to a buggy one...
hey guys any fix would be sooo welcome....
you do know that significant fixes/improvements will have to come from HTC and not the cooks. also, keep in mind that manila 2.5 has been designed to work with the HD2's faster processor and not the slower HD processor.
i'll venture further saying that the chefs DO NOT HAVE THE SOURCE CODE to manila or windows mobile for what it matters. they can do some tweaking some conf changes etc but cannot rewrite the software
Buy a Leo and everything will work fine. It was never designed for Blackstone. It's not slow...our devices are slow!!!
windows mobile is slow....the hardware is fast enough for a bunch of things. dont take me wrong here i like winmobo but the "genious" in microsoft dont care much about user experience...hope win7 fix some of our issues.

I second this, Look at the newer releases and you will notice changes to the stability of the messaging app. Yes it still a bit slow, have you seen the iPhone load a decent conversation history? Slow messaging app when theres more than 100 sms, thats why they needed the 3GS. A little lag isn't too bad considering the Leo's specs.
HTC Messaging looks cool but is useless when you use programs that send SMS with it. It simply will not work. The program needs to be updated to HTC standard. But isn't HTC ought to folllow WM standard? By creating imncompatiblity of not using Standrd, HTC will create a floodgate of problems in the years to come.
honestly, if they could use Manilla 2.5 with the Manila 2.1 messaging, it would be fine
i love everything about 2.5..it's just the messaging. unfortunately...that's a big problem with no fix =[. for now, WinMo messaging is fine =]
love the new calendar, the new buttons, etc..much more friendly

Yes, It has already broken many anti-theft software like Remote Tracker and Sprite Terminator which intercept incoming SMS.
They work fine on M2.1's HTC messaging, but not with M2.5.

you do know that significant fixes/improvements will have to come from HTC and not the cooks. also, keep in mind that manila 2.5 has been designed to work with the HD2's faster processor and not the slower HD processor.

I hope that this remark is very old, because you need to read the LEO forum. The problem is also on a new LEO device! Disabling HTC messaging gives you the old M$ outlook back, but it removes functionality in contacts, clicking on "send message" doesn't take you to SMS! I hope somebody can make a solution for this.
theres one thing I dont understand
When you click in manila at "All messages" in TF3D2.5, then we come in the new HTC styled SMS overview.
I don't understand why the kinetic scrolling of this SMS overview is such unfunktional:
When you slide fast with your finger, it scrolls fast, smooth and normal.
But when you slide slow, it scrolls very strange...
Its very smooth and all, but its very strange... so slow...
But not slow in case of too weak hardware. Like issue in kinetic scrolling software.
I think the only problem of TF3D 2.5 is, that we need a file out of a Leo dump that we don't have.
Because the effects alone are not such special that we need Leo hardware.
Which API does TF3D 2.5 use? OpenGL, .NET?
pim.vol file caching experiment for performance improvement
guys, correct me if I'm wrong here.
the SMS Messages are stored in pim.vol file (not exactly sure what's the corresponding MMS Messages file) located at the root directory. It is excluded from being cached by fsreplxfilt.dll (File Replication for Persistent Storage) StorageManager filter.
What if pim.vol is being cached, will it improve HTC Messaging performance?
This modification however, must be cooked into XIP (with modified boot.rgu / boot.hv) for full effect, even though the registry is here:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt]
"NumDirsToExclude"=dword:d
"DirsToExclude"=multi_sz: "\\mxip_initdb.vol",
"\\mxip_system.vol",
"\\mxip_notify.vol",
"\\mxip_lang.vol",
"\\cemail.vol",
[B]"\\pim.vol",[/B]
"\\Documents and Settings\\",
"\\Program Files\\",
"\\Windows\\",
"\\Application Data\\",
"\\ConnMgr\\",
"\\mxip_swmgmt.vol",
"\\Temp\\"
Have anyone / any chef willing to try to cook a ROM and Not Exclude pim.vol to be cached and see if that improves the performance? Although there might be side effect such as loss of data, but it may help to improve HTC Messaging performance?

doesn't matter if my comment is old/new. i still believe fixes/enhancements will still have to come from HTC. it's unfortunate that HD2 owners are suffering the same poor performance. it's my hope that performance will be improved by the time the HD2 makes it to the USA. (ok, so i'm dreaming, lol).

B.S. Mobile outlook works really fast with the same set of SMS, on which HTC Messaging is just dying. So it is not about device power but about bad programming.

you'll notice that the WM outlook is only loading about 5-10 messages before you have to click "older" or "newer" instead of loading all the messages like how Sense 2.5 is trying to do. I believe that the windows way of doing it is better, but once again, that's something that HTC has to do.

I suggest that you read the Leo forum and you will see that these users are also complaining about the slow speed of HTC Messaging. It is not about the hardware, it is about the software!

I agree with the above, if I keep my stored message below a 20-30 limit on the device for each contact I have absolutely no problem with the messaging speed, it's as quick as I need it to be.
All my messages are synced to MS MyPhone, so if I need anything i've previously deleted from the device, I can login and go to the archive section and find it or search for it if I don't remember when it was.
I don't see the need for people to store 100's of messages on there device now, when the MyPhone service works perfectly. (i get that people don't have a data connection etc, but if you've forked out for this phone then why not!).
The device does become unbearable if you have more than a few hundred messages, I restored 2000 messages to the device and it became sluggish, this is clearly visible by the scroll bar on the right (when you load a contacts conversation). If you watch the scroll bar, it will get smaller and smaller the more messages it loads, during the loading process with hundreds of messages it is virtually impossible to use the device as it stutters and jumps around until it finishes loading the messages, which it does everytime you load that contact, regardless of if you've been into them before or not. Therefore by keeping your active messages on your device to a minimum you have a speedy and lovely interface to use.
I'm currently using the Energy 28004 rom, but i've been using the above method since Miri first started with the Touch Friendly branch of WinMo and MS released MyPhone and it's worked perfectly.

Yes. It is exactly what I meant.
More, I'm not talking about browsing single SMS thread. I usually communicate via SMS with about 20 people. HTC messaging dies when browsing this list - the list contains only a few people list and the last message for each of them. I really cannot understand what makes it too hard to show.
Unfortunately thats not been my experience although everyone is different or we wouldn't be here . The first screen which lists your messages is fairly quick to load once i've loaded it once. I do add it to exclusive so it doesn't close though, so it only loads once at the start. If i kill the task and start it up again it does go slow, but other than that it does appear to be fine.
I currently have 10 threads each with about 100 messages in total and i've just tested and it takes about 2 seconds to populate from first load (messaging ended via task manager) and then it's less than a second each time i load it up after that.
Are you storing your contact pictures on a storage card? (shouldn't really affect the speed as i'd guess your SD card is pretty fast). But it could be contributing if you have contact pictures. For reference mine are on the storage card.
What rom are you using? i'd suggest giving the energy rom a try if you haven't and see what you think as it is definitely the quickest i've used.
Guys,
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5024178&postcount=389
a Manila mod to "limit" the number of messages to display on a page, based on the older HTC Messaging Client as was in Manila 2.1. That's exactly what you all wish for?
