When i use odin to flash a older rom so i can root my phone, odin always gets stuck.
It gets stuck at this part:
<ID:0/009> Setupconnection..
Does anyone know why this happens or what i can do to resolve this problem.
All help would be appreshiated thanks
I did some flashing yesterday, and precisely followed the instructions in post #2 of the thread below. Worked perfectly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Just a guess, but did you remember to first put your phone in download mode?
edit: if it matters, i flashed to KK9
Yes i did follow that post, and the phone was in download mode.
Maybe ill try flashing a different rom.

Looks like i relplied a little too early as soon i replied it got stuck again at the same point.
So now i am back at square 1.
I really so not know what the problem is.
Is there any other way to flash a rom. Because i have noticed in download mode there is an option to update from the sd card.
Actually guys i thi.nk i have just realised the problem.
I pressed home key, volume UP and power button instead of
Home key, volume DOWN and power button.
Ive been stuck on this problem for 2 whole days just for not reading properly.
Thanks for your help guys. I hope it works this time.
Very sad, remember every word on flashing/rooting guide should take sincerely.
Anyway, glad to know finally you made it.
Take care

Common issue.
1)Pull the battery, disconnect the cable.
2)Put back the battery.. Phone should appear to be off still
3) Hold down the home and volume down button. Once those are held down, also hold down the power
4) The phone should be download mode.
5)Odin, plug in USB cable after opening odin, repartition and format (no debug), rezap the firmware, and have a feeling of relief sweep by as though you survived death.
Remember, some newer firmwares need the 512pit, NOT 513pit. But that is basically an error screen which is telling you I assume that the Boot records are messed up/inaccessible.
Hi !
Thank you for the help!
I got it into download mode. i then tried running odin with that tar file again but from a different pc. and it finished just fine and restartet.
And now i have a lag free phone

Well this is a Video Tutorial teaching those who are new to modding there phones or have been reluctant to try Odin, or for those who NEED to use Odin since they soft bricked there phones or flashed something wrong. For whatever reason, this will teach you how to get your phone into download mode and how to flash your Vibrant back to original stock state.

my next post - will include a video on how to take over the world! MUUUUHAAHAHA
I Kid, but good job, maybe my inbox will slow down now.
Your last link is down. Thanks for the video, I am about to use Odin for the first time and this video has helped give me some confidence.
Thanks
is this in the sticky yet? it has 2 be its helpful to the noobs
Not to be a buzz kill or anything, because this was needed... And is very useful, but why isn't it posted in general and just linked in the bible?
This isn't about development.. Its a tutorial about a windows program..
It would get just as many views through there and be just as helpful and not clutter the dev forum..

I have only used Odin 1 time to flash JI2, have been very lucky not to soft brick with all the times i have flashed my vibrant. But I wish this was around before I had to use it, thanks for the video. Its not hard to use, but visually watching it always makes me feel better before I do anything for the first time.
Thank you sir
This is exactly what i was looking for.
I agree. If the mod could bump it that would be great. I plan on coming out with more videos in the future.
anyone have recommendations on how to do this if you dont have access to a windows computer?
oh geeez. just be thankful

<ID:0/004> File analysis..
Nothing more.
Do I need to have my sim card inside the phone or it does not matter?
Hmm, not sure what the problem is, could be a few things. Are you sure you have the correct PIT file? Make sure what you have downloaded is not corrupted at all. You can also try using a different usb port.
Very nice video .... I am a noob and this helped me a lot....
Thanks guys
Maybe the reason is because of the downgrade mode. Should I see something when the phone is in this mode because when I hold the vol up and power it just show the samsung logo nothing more.
I just followed all of these directions to the T and everything went fine, no errors in Odin or anything, and now my phone is stuck with a black screen and the buttons lit up. When I reboot the phone it goes through all of the startup screens just fine: Vibrant, T-Mobile w/ sound, and Galaxy S, then just blank screen.
I tried doing the Odin thing a few times and I'm stuck here - is my phone seriously bricked?
EDIT: I can reboot into Clockwork and stock recovery just fine.
Current Settings - I am rooted, I have ROM Manager, Super User Permissions, Root Explorer and a Custom Rom (Fusion).
Attempts - I have downloaded ODIN, install all the necessary drivers, have booted up Parallels and have have been able to mount my phone and view files on Parallels. I have opened up ODIN and it has recognized my phone when it is ON.
Dilemma - I have gone through the steps given to us by the nice ODIN video tutorial. However, once I access download mode on my phone my Parallels gives me a pop up that says it is unable to connect the device to the USB. I have tried this over and over about 30x, still I cannot get it to recognize the phone while in download mode.
*So, can someone provide me with a solution? Either via MAC or Parallels? I'd like to get my phone back original settings soon, thanks.

1. Get into Download Mode (WITH THE PHONE PLUGGED IN) by following the steps below
*Turn off the phone until you get to the charging battery screen (keep in mind, your phone is currently PLUGGED IN)
*Press volume up and down, and power all at once.
*As soon as the screen turns black, release your power button.
2. Unplug phone from USB
3. Open Odin (in Administrator if you're running W7 or Vista), try one of the ones I attached to this post, at least one of them is bound to work, some don't work for me, but works for others, some doesn't work for others, but works for me, whatever floats your boat
4. Load in the files into Odin that you have downloaded from above Just load in the files corresponding to the text field.
DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION.
5. Plug in your phone with the DL mode
6. Click start and wait for the magic
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NO-BOOT PHONES
This is where your phone does NOT turn on, no combo of buttons works and power button does nothing.
DO THIS ONLY WHEN YOU PLUG IN YOUR PHONE AND NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE SCREEN!!! If else, follow the steps from above.
This method is basically same as above, EXCEPT the way you get into Download Mode as your phone is HARD BROKEN.
1. Download all the files required in the "BOOT CYCLE" section of this post.
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
8. Follow steps 4-8 from the "BOOT CYCLE" section.
Troubleshooting:
-Odin stuck at some random process?
*Switch to another odin
*Make sure you did NOT check repartition, if you did, just repeat all the steps over again, except for the downloading parts, obviously.
-Phone not responsive?
*Try "NO-BOOT PHONES"section of this guide
-Phone stuck at Galaxy S logo screen?
*Put it in to DL mode, and run Odin again, it's just a bad install.
-All three ODIN is nonfunctional, stuck or giving "FAILED" errors?
*DO NOT CLOSE ODIN ONCE IT HAS FAILED!
*Unplug your phone
*Replug in your phone, get it into DL mode
* Unplug once it is in DL mode
*Replug and ODIN should recognize your phone
*Leave all the settings the same, then click "Start" again.
-Cannot get into download mode using the method I listed? Use the method(s) below:
Soldering Method
More methods coming soon

Nice Guide! One thing I noticed is that the color is overdone and instead of helping with reading it has the opposite effect. Made everything look semi-messy and crowded.
good guide..
one question though, the PIT file is the one for the Tmobile JFD file. would that affect any unlocked vibrant? I mean, would it lock the phone back to Tmo??
thanks for sharing,
Cheers
I thought there's no fix to a phone which is really BRICKED? oh well, everything's possible at this time.
Please be more descriptive in your terms of "brick(ed)". The term bricked is meant that your phone isb rendered COMPLETELY & UTTERLY USELESS, FOREVER! The phone will never get used again... Hence.... Brick!?
I like the guide just think it would better off with more descriptive details of what caused the phone to boot loop or not boot.
Ok let me fix up the terms when I get home. I don't think you can ever make the vibrant utterly useless haha. Android phones are nearly impossible to brick

what do you do when you use odin and it STILL boots back to the samsung screen??
If the black screen doesn't change after like 15 minutes, then just do the whole process all over again. It could just mean a bad install
Even programs messes up sometimes
Goodluck!
Remember, please post your results so I can see how I can improve this guide!
So, i think i have actualy made a brick. I was running macnut r12/a13 kernal for about a week and had some issues with the overclock so i figured i would just flash aver itself as that has fixed a few issues in the past. booted into clockwork, flashed the rom, no worries. Hit reboot system and it hung at the vibrant/i9k boot screen. At this point i was still not worried. Here is where it gets fun. My Phone will now not boot into recovery, i have been trying now for about 4 hours. I can boot into download mode, but i can not get odin to see my phone. On the same PC, odin sees other vibrants, just not mine. If i turn on the phone it just boot loops at the vibrant/i9k screen. My pc makes the usb plug/unplug noise as it boot loops turning on and off with the vibrant/i9k screen telling me that the drivers could not be installed. If i plug my gf's vibrant in, i have no issues and odin gives me a com port. Any suggestions?
THANKS dude only if if you posted this before when my vibrant was soft bricked... I sent it back I didn't know what to do hehe!
Also a question... if I do this.. will it remove root and everything also does my phone HAVE to be soft/hard bricked to use these methods because I might want to just use the soft brick Odin thing when I want to get back to normal without being soft bricked...

thanks for your reply
If odin recognizes one vibrant( the working one, my gf's) and not the other(my bootlooping) do you still think its a driver issue.
Macnut is a amalgam of almost all the galaxy s's. when my phone booted it would startsaying vibrant, then flash i9k. i did install kies thinking it would have some drivers for the i9k. I will try monkeying with the drivers a bit and let you know.

I was trying to flash Clockwork Recoverylast night, but the links were down the files I needed. So I went to Modaco's site and there is a conversion file to EXT 4 which included Clockwork Recovery. I flashed it using Odin with no problems, and I even saw the Orange recovery screen prior to the phone rebooting. So it looked as if everything worked fine. At this point, it was 4 AM so after the flash it said to be patient and it would take a long time. So I just went to sleep. I woke up this morning to a dead Tab. I figured I would plug it in because maybe the battery ran out.
Plugging it in had no signs of life, so I left it on the charger for a while and eventually I saw the battery and the circular lines that rotate when the battery is charging. The lines however, were not rotating. Basically a "frozen" charge screen. I thought I would leave it on just in case if it was charging and no charge what so ever.
I cannot get into download mode, or recovery. I have also tried plugging in the device and Odin does not recognize it. Can anyone help? thanks

Please post in the proper forum.
I don't see how this has to do with development.
sorry, I figured since I was using the dev thread for info it would go here. Post to general? can a mod move to appropriate portion please? thanks
First post it in general forum.
Second, its not dead, just press volume down and hold power and it will boot into download mode and you can flash it with anything you want.
Thanks Tech, but it will not go into download mode (the sweeping android). It seems as if the battery died, and it is not taking a charge. I have tried holding the V down and power at the same time. Pressing V Down and holding power and all other combos. Cannot get it into DL mode.
Plug in the tab to an outlet and IMMEDIATELY push and hold the power button. My point is, don't let the tab display that battery with the stuck cursor. You want it to boot before that battery icon comes up. You might be using an older version of the kernel that doesn't have the fix for charging when its off.
From the Tab.
www.twitter.com/ayman07
solution
This happened to me. Just plug it in your PC, it will look like nothing is happening, but wait half an hour or more and all of a sudden your pc is going to recognize the usb connects. When this happens right away go to the download mode. Then you can flash whatever you want and fix your tab.
I hope that works for you.

I think your problem is with the kernel. So thats what you need to flash. you can flash a whole rom that has a kernel. for future reference your battery should be at least 50% before flashing 100% is even safer..

Try this:
This feature is great for people who
a) Have a bad KIES flash
b) Stuff up their phone somehow
c) Accidentally flash something dodgy via ODIN
d) Some other random occurence
To test this feature you just need to start with your phone turned off... Best way to be sure is to remove the battery.
Then
1. Put battery back in
2. Press and hold Volume Up + Home Key
3. Continue holding those buttons and then press and hold power button.
4. When you see the logo pop up release power button ONLY
5. Keep holding two buttons from step 2 until you enter recovery mode.
I hope this helps!

DUDE!!!! I have the samsung galaxy s4 att sgh-i337. I recently just tried flashing uxylon from the goo manager . I did standard procedure of factory reset twice, then cache and dalvik cache wipe two times. Just so happens as Im waiting for uXylon or whatever its spelled to flash , my phone decides to stay at the boot screen.... At this point im sweating. After a few minutes i take the battery out and restart regularly . I restart and wait 10 minutes thinking it still may flash uxylon. NOPE. :,( Now im getting really scared. I try to the custom recovery mode.... no twrp OR SYSTEM RECOVERY .... Now Im Falling over scared. I take out battery try again. power , home , volume up , repeatedly . It wont even say booting recovery it only says recovery options then black screen untill I release the buttons. . Then bootloop to logo no recovery. Now Im frantic. I look up adam outler's page on ODIN recovery with stock firmware and ddownload ucuadml and ucuamdb not knwoing which , if either of them , would flash through ODIN. So im frantically flying through the web for 3 hours searching some magic button combo or something that may help me just reach my recoveries in twrp (since the computer would not recognize even in download mode) . I look everywhere. EVERYWHERE. This point i figure i can try odin and its my last chance. Im waiting on the firware to download right now to this second as I type . Somehow God magically guided me to this page though ... because I did about 300 google searches looking for a way to get my twrp back and use my nandroids. NOTHING until now..... I run across this post and move down and come across your post. "have you tried this button combo ? " I read the next comment . "NO no combos worked." Clciked forward a few pages and found nothing. Im giving up ... its over... Either ODIN will work and flash my stock firmware or I will have no way to turn my paper weight back into a cell phone. As Im click the back button i come across THIS post YOUR actual comment. I read it and think ... I didnt try that. I tried it the way you posted. Home + volume up ... nothing happens .... I add the power button and it boots same way as before booloop. Im infuriated..... I press it again the way you posted and suddenly ..... TWRP's beautiful blue screen pops up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rostroe my cleanROM 1.0 nand and Im back up . I seriously just want to thank you for posting this little comment that you probably thought would never really help anyone at all. This truly TRULY just saved my phone . I mean you just saved my day , brother. Seriously thank you . Im so happy right now it's like I bought a brand new s4 lol. Thank you so much buddy. Real talk. :highfive:

Im waiting on the firware to download right now to this second as I type . find cf root, or use semaphore kernel
bootloop becoz wrong kernel flashed, knowing ur build number is important to determine which cf root u needed
if u find da suitable kernel, bootloop will fix by flashing thru odin, but ur sayin u dont even know da version here, so it become more difficult.
here list of cf root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
but as i said before da difficulty now is u dont even know ur build number n version but ur sayin u wanna backup ur app data but ur fone bootloop now.
