I was having problem connecting to my Wi-Fi using CM7 RC1 & nightly's 1-3. I have a D-Link 655 using WPA/WPA2 PSK encryption. It would get stuck in a loop: scanning... connecting... disconnecting.... However, it would tether to my HTC Hero using WEP encryption and to open networks.
I googled and saw that others had similar issues with CM7 and tried some of their solutions (reboot router, set Nook Color Wi-Fi to never sleep) but it didn't work for me.
I went back to Cicada's Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 after each CM7 install because Wi-Fi was working great for me. I did some digging into 0.6.8 zip file and noticed that it has a "scripts" folder in "/system/etc/wifi/softap/" that is not in CM7 also there is an extra file called "tiwlan_drv.ko" in "/system/etc/wifi/" that is not in CM7.
I pushed the entire "wifi" folder from 0.6.8 to CM7 Nightly 3, did a chmod 644 on the individual files rebooted and I was able to connect to my wireless network. I am not really sure what worked specifically but I thought that I would share in case someone was having similar issues or could possibly explain what is going on.
I am really enjoying CM7 and I am grateful to everyone on XDA and to the CM guys for their hard work.

Can you post a copy of that folder here so others can try it with out having to find rom to pull it from.
Same, please - would like to give it a try. Had only two fields to fill in on a EAP/MSCHAPv2 university network on stock rooted (username and pass), but lots more options and not working on CM7.
Well I've had no problem at all on multipel networks configurations, with CM7, and actually find it to be much more reliable than other installs. I have literally tried every possible config and they all work.
It doesn't make much sense for encryption to be responsible for the behavior your report (making and dropping connections).
1. Have you checked the network itself - e.g. use wifi analyzer, and look at the signal strength. You may be using a network that is in a crowded band, and adjacent devices may be trying to shout over each other (though the NC seems to generally be able to shout over my celphone). For instance, in my neighborhood almost everybody is on the default channels 1 and 6, which really cuts the range and signal strength of my wifi. Honestly you won't believe the improvement by switching to an empty channel.
2. Is you work network broadcasting over multiple channels? This is typical but it does mean that as you move around the building you will drop briefly as you switch from one router to another with the same SSID on different channels.
3. Have you installed any additional software that might be fighting with the system. For instance set CPU is now redundant - as the same functionality is built into CM7 and it will fight with the system if you install it. So you haven't installed any unecessary wpa_supplicant fixes, right? Or a profile manager? And you are not using a task killer, right?
I used a task killer last night and for the first time had problems with file explert connecting. After reinstall it started to work again. This was the only time I have had any problems with wifi.

I've tried several different builds of Nook Froyo (SD/EMMC), Stock Nook Color 1.01/1.1.0 & deeper-blue's Honeycomb v01 and they all worked with my wireless connection. Laptop also works.
I will do a fresh install of a CM7 build (wiping system, cache, data), reboot and the first thing I try to do is connect to Wi-Fi and It would get stuck in at: scanning... connecting... disconnecting.... I've tried to login numerous times making sure the password is correct and nothing.
After giving up I would do a fresh install of Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 and try to access my Wi-Fi and it connects on the first try. As I said, I am not sure why coping the wifi folder works but it works.
Disregard my post, moving to another area of campus made it connect smooth as butter.
I have installed phiremod nook V3 to my nc, everything is ok,
except for the wifi connection.
My nc can't connect to any hotspot even my iphone 4
but it can connect to my router (linksys 54-TM the setting is G not mix mode).
I want to try it but I don't know how to copy the wifi folder you provided to my nook.
Is it the script like that:
adb push ??? /system/etc/
How about the script for chmod 644?
thx a lot!
I have neither Wi-Fi, not USB working now
I have exactly the same issue with the nightly build 8 (2011-02-27) when connecting to my D-Link DIR-655 with WPA2 encryption. My Nook with CM7 would not connect in a meter from a router. I have other wireless devices, like PSP, Cruz Reader, Acer netbook, etc. and all of them work just fine, likewise the same Nook with the original firmware. On the top of that now Nook does not connect via USB to neither XP nor Window 7, which was also working fine with the stock firmware. I followed the instructions from the wiki.
Add one more nook to the wifi problem list. I've tried every encryption method and can't get my nook to connect. The only way I could connect was in "Open" and thats not an option.
Add me to the list as well. I just installed CM7 nightly 12 and I can not connect to my network. It worked prior to installing CM7, ie. rooted stock on the Nook.
I am also running the Dlink DIR-655 and WPA2 encryption as my main router. I also have an Asus working as a repeater using the same SSID but with all other settings the same.
I rebooted the router and repeater and the nook and I wiped and reinstalled CM7. Nothing worked and that didn't work. I get the scanning, connecting, disconnected loop. Without a connection, I really can't do much so I'm going to have to find another rom.
Thanks for this thread. I was trying to figure out why Nookie Froyo and HCv4 worked for me, but not Phiremod...then I realized that Phiremod is CM7 based. I really liked the look of it, but I never REALLY got to try it out because of the stupid wi-fi issue.
The odd part is at my school, the network is "open." I'll have to try this out and post my results...At first I thought it was the WPA_supplicant file that was all messed up and I was gonna push a different one from Nookie but I got too frustrated.
Switching to tkip-only encryption worked. There seems to be an issue with aes encryption and cm7 (on build 13 now).
-via Nook Color.
Pushing all the files worked for me. Don't push softap...you don't need to...
Just push the tiwlan_drv.ko, tiwlan.ini, and wpa_supplicant.conf files. You should be golden.

Are you still having trouble connecting to your iPhone? I am using mywi on it and trying to tether using mywi kills my NC 's wifi completely for all wifi networks.
I am not sure what it was on my DIR-655 but i set it to B & G only and it solved the connection issues for me. I am not sure if it is the encryption our CM7 NC's are having issue with or the Wireless N.
Was on CM7 12 and now on CM7 13. Been having problems with wifi all along. Thanks for this post. Will try when I get back today
Having same issue with Wireless N
I too was having issues with CM7 and not connecting to my D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N network (WP2 with AES).
I have already gone back to stock then autonooter 3.0... but that left me with very low usb transfer speeds (0.5 or less kb).
I will have to try this fix out.
Thanks for the post!

Another one with the DIR-655/WPA2 issue running with CM7. Anytime I enable N then I loose the wireless connection. Setting the DIR-655 to G makes everything connect.
On another network I run WPA2 on a Cisco e2000 and that connects without issue on N. The combination of DIR-655-WPA2-Wireless N seems to be the issue
Tolax
I've setup VLC Direct Pro and it works on wifi/LAN.
However, it doesn't work over 3G, it finds the server but just gets stuck at buffering (doesn't seem to buffer anything).
I have opened up and NAT ports 8080 and 5554, I'm 100% sure my server side / network side config is OK because I have a samsung galaxy tab that DOES WORK when streaming over 3G.
I'm pretty sure its not a NAT or firewall issue as I can see a dynamic translation in my router for port 5554 as soon as I hit play, its definitely going through, and like I said it works fine for my other android device over 3G.
The N1 however, going back to the exact same backend, only works over wifi.
??? anyone else seen this?
N1 running Cyanogen 7.03
I have the same issue, except even on 4g.
Tried with a vpn connection, but i can still only browse my files - it will load the file's length and tries to buffer.
ideas?
None lol
Does it work with different device?

Put it in a script and put the script in the start folder (for windows).
Hi I think this is probably my first post on here
Just got a galaxy note in UK on three network
Netflix is working fine on 3G connection
but as soon as I try to use it on wifi it won't even log in, let alone stream anything
which sounds completely the wrong way round to me (if anything i'd expect more problems on 3g/data than wifi)
I have contacted netflix once about this already - being new also to netflix in the UK, I was impressed with the freephone help line number and bright happy service I was given but the suggestions did not work (I had already tried many of them myself)
I have tried rebooting device
logging in on 3g work and streams then while playing it seems to continue streaming if i turn on wifi (but thats not a good workaround)
If i log in on wifi I don't get past the netflix app login screen
Have reinstalled the netflix app
no luck
Have fixed the ip of the phone and set it in DMZ on router - still no luck
Have forwarded ports 80 and 443 to ip of phone - no luck (on advice from call to netflix)
So any suggestions are welcome please
Wifi works fine for all other apps, web browsing etc
(My galaxy note is unlocked and was not bought on three.)
ok have now done a complete factory reset of phone
only updated gmail
not installed any other apps
setup wifi - tried 2 diffent access points I have by different manufacturers
try netfix app on wifi - login timeout
on 3g only - still fine and ok
i have an archos 80 g9 device here also and get the same problem
tried the ipad (original ipad) app and all fine on wifi on that
have tried clearing app's data and cache
still not chnage - still will not work on wifi (only 3g)
starting to think this is a problem with the app as get same issue on archos

Just an FYI, but Netflix works fine on all my Android devices over WIFI (and 3g where applicable), so I suspect it is probably something to do with your router.

Dave

thanks for the reply
I had thought either the same or that maybe being a fairly new device
the app had a problem with the galaxy note
but as i get the same problem on the archos I'm now thinking it must be settings on the router - even though I have never had any other problems with any other device/app (as i say the ipad works fine)
Any one any ideas what on the router may be the cause of this?
I have another router I will test with as I have tested on a neighbours connection and all was OK (different ISP and router manufacterer)
but would like to know what the problem is
rather than just blindly buy new routers until the problem is fixed.
just to update with what has happened on this
in case anyone else is watching the thread...
I have now setup another router
and all is working
so obviously there is either minor flaw in the buffalo router firmware i was using
(although it is a model with no updates at this time)
or there was a setting somewhere causing the problem
If anyone has any clues as to the setting it may have been causing the issue
can you please post as I would like to know the answer rather than just move on and forget that i ever had the other router.
thanks
Hi all.
I had the same problem with my SGS II on my Netgear router (from Orange UK).
All was OK with Netflix, until I was re-configuring my network after my TP Link range extender started playing up. The network was originally on Wireless G, but I changed the security settings, the network ran Wireless N. Everything seemed OK, but it seems that my PS3 had a little trouble connecting to the internet, and definitely Netflix, and on the SGS II I couldn't connect to Netflix at all, either via web or via the app.
I change back to wireless G tonight and all seems OK.
Hope this helps someone out, as I was trawling the web searching for answers myself.
I'm running Alpha 2 and can not get my PPTP vpn connection to work. I am also having troubles downloading game data for Deadspace. When you open the app it is supposed to download the game info but the connection to the server fails. Works fine on my cell on the same wireless network.
Any solutions to these network related issues? Others having similar problems?
Thank you
PPTP connections don't work. Neither does L2TP. A known problem. But OpenVPN works fine, since the tun.ko file is included.
Microsoft Lync also fails to connect. works fine on my phone.
Any official place to report issues like this?
I'm really not seeing any threads with workarounds for this error message.
I know I haven't been around in quite a while, am I just missing them? If I am, please point me in the correct direction.
If not, I can update this thread with some workarounds I have found (May also help Google in helping their customers, can't explain any further than that). Seems like it would make sense to have a thread dedicated to that.

These are a list of things that can be at play...Most are Router related
No Multicast capability, Multicast Disabled or Filtering On
2.4 Ghz band disabled or not supported by the router (CCast only has 2.4Ghz WiFi)
IGMP Enabled or Proxied
AP Isolation on
UPnP settings
IPv6 Disabled
MAC Filtering Enabled
Firewall and Security Programs blocking ports
Incompatible Routers
Check here for possible solutions
https://support.google.com/chromecast/table/3477832?hl=en&ref_topic=3447927
and make sure your CCast has a Solid White Light cause if not then you need to use the setup program to configure it
What if it works seemingly fine, but then proceeds to intermittently drop off and display the 'No cast devices found' error.

WiFi is strong. It works fine from all my other devices, it's just Chrome. I'm on a Windows 8 PC. Sometimes it'll work perfectly for hours on end. I have everything except my LAN turned off (or so I think), checked binding orders, my windows firewall is off, and it just keeps happening.
Actually I will report back, I thought I had IGMP disabled. I didn't, so I just turned it off.

If that doesn't change things, check if you can adjust your router's UPnP Advertisement time and see if that correlates with your dropoffs.
Beyond that you can try the Wireless Portable Devices setting in the Firewall and enabling IPv6 as described by folks in this thread.
I had similar issues when I first played with the Chromecast which were being caused by Wifi signal - it appears that due to the location of my Chromecast (in a media cabinet) the signal was severely degraded. I tried it in the TV directly (as opposed to the home theatre) and this increased the performance for me as it was out of the cabinet and ended up buying a hdmi extender to run it up into a higher location so it would get better signal.
Not sure if you're getting the same but that's what I'd look at.

And the second thread is linked from that one.
Anyone who is using this in a Home Entertainment environment would be wise to get a Wireless AP extender to place near the Home Entertainment cabinet because all those devices throw off so much RF that can easily interfere with the CCast connection.
It's one of the reasons I wish they had a USB Cable similar to the one used for Flashcast that you could put a wired USB ETH dongle in and wire it up.
Thats something I would expect @Kyonz and Team Eureka to be adding to their ROM at some point. That would be a damn good upgrade to the Unit for those with Reception and Network issues. We might even get a sense of exactly what Bitrate the CCast Hardware can handle when the Network isn't getting in the way.

This is getting weirder, IGMP disabled. It worked solidly for over a week, and now it's dropping off again. I can't help but think that wi-fi signal is strong as all my other devices work fine, and the CC is in the same room as the router, a month old Netgear R6200v2. I played with uPnP advertisement time and nothing changed, its still dropping off. Restarting the router fixes it. I feel like the problem is on the Windows side though, because every other device works perfectly fine, including Chrome on my Macbook, and all mobile devices.

Since rebooting the router seems to help it feels like it's some advertisement or multicast related thing. It "registers" at router start but eventually the client is ignoring it. Does the Windows machine go to sleep, turn off its network connection, or auto connect to VPN or another virtual network adapter?

You mentioned Windows 8...
Make sure IPv6 is enabled on both the Computer and the Router.
If your router does not support IPv6 that may be the cause of your problem.
But it is on the list of Compatible routers which leads me to believe you have IPv6 disabled on the Windows8 machine.

Again let's keep in mind that the CC works perfectly fine from every other device. Been watching Breaking Bad on Netflix through my phone and it goes for hours and hours without a hitch.
With that said you're on to something with the sleep idea. My sleep for displays is set to 2 hours, and my hard drives is set to 3 hours, so I don't think that's it. All VPNs or extra LAN connections are off afaik. But turning off my network connection, that's a possibility. I found the 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option under Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Ethernet -> Properties -> Configure -> Power Management tab. Now, I tried this both allowing the computer to idle (dropped off) and while typing this very message (also dropped off). So it's not that particular setting. Also IPv6 is enabled in the Ethernet Properties. This is crazy, why doesn't this work out of the box!? Everything else did.
Google Chrome Canary is seemingly fixing a lot of people's issues.

Hmm, can't find it but I remember running across a mention of Chromecast discovery not working properly in some cases when there were multiple network interfaces installed (regardless of whether they're active). Windows also has some trouble with the network filter driver layer if there are two many filters installed (again, VPN adapters and firewalls).
Actually... maybe I'm overthinking things as I often do...
It's just that particular computer, right?
Can you try disabling all other Chrome extensions? I recall someone else ran into a conflict with another Chrome extension.
