[Q] Note functioning very slow - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my phone is working very slowly and hanging alot! what should i do to mae it work properly! i am on riginal firmware and non rooted! please help guys!

Clean cache. Delete unnecessary apps and content. Use task manager to kill apps you don't use. Remove widgets that you don't need from all home screens.
Also, try installing some kind of activity monitor and check your CPU load, maybe one of your apps is constantly draining cpu power.
If nothing helps, back-up your data and do a factory reset, that will make your phone as fast as it can go on stock rom.
Also i would highly recommend flashing ICS if you don't need Samsung apps - as it's much faster.

hey thanks alot for ur help...but ICS is not officially out for note right? i am a noob in rooting and all...so i wanna do it the official way!

Goto settings/privacy/factory restore.
It will wipe your phone so take back up before if you need to with titanium backup or something. Then of restoring, don't restore any system settings.

Yes, it's not out yet. You have to wait from 1 week to 2 months, nobody knows when will Samsung push the update. For now, i guess factory reset will help - remember to back up!

There are several reasons this can happen. The ones mentioned above are definitely likely:
One or more apps running all the time. Prevent these by uninstalling, freezing, or disabling their event listeners. For much of this you may require Root access.
Too many widgets. This will generally slow any launcher down, although I am not sure they will slow anything else.
And this one I have read and noticed myself:
The system 'power saving' mode is set. This is at Settings -> Power Saving. I turn this off as it makes the phone lag badly.

O2x is Not satisfying

Hey all. I got the o2x for two weeks now. After the first week i decided to root it because lg stock ROM is ****. I am still Not satisfied! It is slow and laggy imo. Im currently using gilgamesh 1.2 ROM. I really think about getting another phone. I had a desire and to be honest this phone is Not really faster. I Eintrag care about playing games.
Sorry for my bad english.

well, then u should sell it now, get a good prize and wait for htc sens. or samsung sII
I had the amoled desire and this O2X is faster by miles. I think you didn't organize your apps properly.
The LG Stock ROM is **** I agree. I replaced the homescreen with LauncherPro and froze unwanted bloatware on the first week. The whole phone system is now much faster and light without custom ROM. Love it!
Not laggy
LOL dont know what your doing to your phone but 2x is one of the fastest phones on the market and may well be the fastest. You think this phone has problems i had 4 Sony Arc they are a nightmare soo many issues and problem with screen coming away from it housing, the LG 2x is well built and fast as hell cannot waiit for it to get Gingerbread and then Honeycomb will make this phone rock and roll even more
kan someone explain how to remove the bloatware from the LG ?
im still stuck @ factory rom, but i dont feel like flashing a new one
Root, install Titanium Backup and use it to remove the things you don't want.

1) get root
2) freeze/uninstall apps using Titianium Backup / use Root Explorer or sth like that if you know which apk's you don't need and simply remove them (remember to remount /system in read-write mode)
This phone has a rubbish stock UI but great potential, it makes it more a phone for geeks rather than the masses. I've rooted and loaded CWM along with applying the dexopt fix but am yet to go the whole hog, I'd rather see what tweaking stock does before i take the whole leap of custom roms.
By the way does anyone know where the facebook/twitter/myspace apps are so i can get rid of them? I've tried Root Explorer and Titanium but i can't see them...they are just unnecessary bloatware for me.
The apk of Twitter&Facebook by LG is called SNS.apk or very similar.

Also the root can be done with that "super one click root" stuff ?
Yep, use that application.

Well. I learned a hard lesson yesterday. I could root the phone and uninstalled bloatwares as I wanted and everything worked fine... Until I decided to do a factory reset. The first-run setupwizard cannot find a certain app and crashes at beginning (I think it was LG Home, not sure though) left me with endless bootscreen. After hours of headache finding solution to fix it I got the phone to revert to factory settings with nvflash. Now I don't remove system app anymore but to disable them. Easiest by "freeze" them with titanium.

Without Clockwork Recovery my hands are tied. The market version of Rom Manager does not have a compatible version and I totally missed the one posted in here
I don't know any other way to push files without using Clockwork :/ If anybody knows please teach me.
ROM Manager supports both the G2X and the O2X

Widgets

Been having problems with my widgets since flashing bk, though to be honest I don't think BK has caused it. Whenever I reboot all of my widgets show problem loading widget. Some other threads have said to check that your widgets aren't on your sd card, which mine aren't. They work alright if I delete them and add them again, but that gets to be a pest, especially when managing 4g.
I'm running Gv 1.3, bk 1.0, and I've got ice cream kangwich, all of which I adore and am really grateful for.
Anyone else encountered this/have suggestions? Tried reinstalling individual widgets, etc.
Thanks everyone

I was having this issue to, but I never really figured out what was causing it. I suspected it had something to do with my clearing the dalvik cache or some other weird crap I was doing. This sounds like a paradox, but after installing BK, I felt like my phone ran faster, but was more prone to getting "bogged down" after awhile, and startup times were painfully slow.
However, I just finished finished removing the supercharger included with GV1.3, and installed the latest version along with a few of the extra tweaks available, and all of these issues have gone away.
Sorry, I realize this isn't that helpful. But you could try doing the same thing...It's definitely worth it; I'm seeing a pretty significant increase in snappiness.

Is the "snappiness" in a form of a 'circle' or 'Z' formation?
Well I've tried everything short of reflashing . Any ideas? I have reinstalled go launcher, reinstalled my widgets etc. Resupercharged. I Tried adw too. Don't want to reflash but I am running out of options. If I do reflash, would want to format everything. Tips for formatting internal? Know I shouldn't do it from settings. Where should I? Just want to start from scratch. Sorry about strange tone, practicing on swift key. So much trouble from some broken widgets. Thanks everyone

Why wouldn't you want to format from within Settings? I've done that before with no issues. Perhaps you're confusing this with not wanting to Factory Reset from within Settings? Because that you definitely don't want to do.
Or perhaps I'm crazy. But I've definitely formatted the internal (and external) sdcards from within the phone Settings. In fact, on one occasion I corrupted my external sdcard, and the only means of formatting that would make the phone recognize it again was formatting it within settings.

!!!! TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!!
!! I post this because it worked for me, 2 of my friends and I did this myself personally with my own pc/software !!
### IMPORTANT NOTE ###
Doing this can BRICK your phone if you don't know or not familar with what I'm doing.
If you're new to this, don'tbother doing it yourself as BRICKING your phone risk would be much higher
------------------------------------------------
I have issues last month when I was using gingervolt 1.3
Issues are
random reboots
reboot when tapping return soft key
no bluetooth at all can't connect to anything
screen freeze
some broken apps/widgets that have to uninstall/reinstall a few times
So I got tired of it and backup all my apps/app data/contacts with " mybackup root " app and put it in my pc
------------------------------------------------
!! IMPORTANT NOTE !!
Before trying to replicate what I did make sure you are able to flash the v7 tot file with LGNST and the phone can reboot otherwise it'll be hard to recover you're phone.
I did this because LGNST works flawless for me everytime so if you had problems w LGNST
!! DON'T TRY THIS !!
------------------------------------------------
After I copied my backup files/data into my pc, i checked the debug mode to make sure it's ON before I booted into CWM
go to "" mount and storage ""
from there I wiped all my data to start clean which include
Wipe cache
Wipe data
Wipe system
Wipe sdcard
------------------------------------------------
!! IMPORTANT NOTE !!
as you wiped everything noted above your revolution
WILL NOT BOOT UP
ALL FILES IN SYSTEM/SD-CARD WILL BE WIPED CLEAN
YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR BACKUP FILES INCLUDING CWM RECOVERY FILES
that why it's very important to transfer all your backup files to your pc/mac and you can flash v7 tot with LGNST without any problems
------------------------------------------
After I completely clean my revo I plug it into my pc from CWM and run LGNST
LGNST recognized my phone as I expected then I started to flash the v7 tot file
Waited for about 15 minutes for it to complete the whole process
when LGNST reach about 80% it'll reboot you're phone
Make sure LGNST display COMPLETE before you unplug
Now I got a complete bone stock phone with v7 gingerbread I started the root--revotool kit--GV 1.3 again
I use the esteem root method to root my revo as it works for me flawlessly
I also use the original revotool kit since I don't have any issues with it
Then I transfer my backup files back to my phone and reinstalled it with myBackupRoot app
Doing all this work and taking the risk did payoff
It fixed all issues I had mention earlier and been running flawless ever since even after I flashed BK kernel
No reboot, no screen freeze, bluetooth connects with anything I have
As I mention above, not only did it work for me it also work for 2 other friends
Good luck

Question about flashing firmware to fix twlauncher

So, I was a little too aggressive with trying to remove Samsung bloatware from my rooted stock N7000 running 4.0.3 baseband LP4, build LPA. I deleted Social Hub, which turns out to be a crucial component for twlauncher, and basically the launcher kept FCing. Reinstalling Social Hub kept failing, so I had to install Go Launcher just so I could use the device, but I think I would like to go back to TouchWiz. Based on my research, the only way to fix this broken twlauncher issue is to reflash the firmware. So, my questions are:
1) If I reflash stock 4.0.3 using Odin, will I still retain all of my user data, app settings, SMS messages, photos, etc.?
The next two questions are somewhat related.
2) Is it worth reflashing to 4.0.3, or should I wait for the 4.0.4 OTA update to hit my device (I have the Indian version of the Note)? Will installing the OTA 4.0.4 update put back the missing components for twlauncher (e.g., Social Hub)?
3) I have disabled a lot of bloatware and processes under Settings/Applications/All. Regardless of whether I use 4.0.3 or 4.0.4, will updating the firmware still keep those processes that I marked as disabled as disabled, or will the update re-enable them? Also, will the update still automatically update those processes that I marked as disabled, or skip over them?
Thanks!
Flash a custom rom bloat free with a safe kernel.
There's a lot in development section

Touchwiz depends on social hub widget. Keep it and delete all other crapware.
if possible make a backup first. yes it will restore back social hub when reflash of stock rom n the other apps. juz disable them back (of the bloatware or apps) that you dont want.

Sorry, I forgot to update this thread. I was able to resolve the problem without having to reflash. It was very simple, and I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier.
My problem is that I was trying to *reinstall* the SocialHub.apk file. Instead, I simply copied the file to /system/app, changed its permission to 644, rebooted, and twlauncher worked again!
Lesson of the day: do not delete SocialHub.apk from Samsung Galaxy Note -- otherwise, Touchwiz launcher will break!.
Hopefully, someone else will find this information to be useful...

Thank you so much for posting!!! I've been searching for this for weeks! My trouble is somewhat related. Every single morning I wake up, unlock my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, gingerbread 2.3.6 and press twlauncher force close button. It does not happen during the day time though. This problem kicks in only during the night when the phone is deep asleep. I was literally going through every single application trying to find which process or service was incompatible with the stock twlauncher. However, I was smart enough to freeze social hub with my titanium back up so will have to defost it now for testing. Are you 100% sure the stock twlauncher depends on social hub? The only trouble I have is one single fc in the morning with the social hub being frozen... That's one single fc per day but every morning.. other than that there are no more poblems and the device runs just as perfect till it "goes to bed" Would highly appreciate any comments / suggestions / advices at all.
You have to delete also odexed files.

Thank you for your comment. Do you mean delete the odexed files when I defrost the social hub back or delete the files while the social hub is still frozen? Where are these files usually located? Appreciate your time
Found the odex files.. edited the post.. I guess odex files are used to speed up the. apk ones. Is deleting them really going to help much? Aren't they just useless without original. apk files? Thankies

...I just thought what if I "inject" a "healthy" twlauncher extracted from the stock rom into my device? Will that help cure my corrupt twlauncher? I would need to remove / delete my present launcher or is it going to be OK to simply place it over the old one wouldn' it? Would appreciate any help / comments at all! Many thanks!
Hi,
I have not tried it on ICS, but back when I was on Gingerbread stock, I froze the social hub using TB without issue. It is quite interesting to note that deleting the app causes the launcher to spaz out.
Of course, there might be differences in the apps between GB and ICS, but thank goodness I froze the last time instead of deleting!

Hi there,
That is exactly what I suspect is happening. TwLauncher most probably has nothing to do with the social hub and thefe are no direct dependencies. I am not really sure though, I'm still testing it all around before reflashing. I also heard that the social hub had been uninstalled (not just frozen by TB) on both GB and ICS and it had no issues at all..

I agree. I always uninstall social hub along with all the related applications through titanium backup on every stock rom I try. I have never had a single occasion of TW force closing for any reason.

Yeah. However, I have tw force closing on me every morning... Do you happen to know if I extract a "healthy" tw from a rom and "inject" it over my corrupt tw right on top.. will it help? I thought it would save me the hussle of reflashing and all.. replacing just one file looks easier.. I am not an expert though so would appreciate any suggestions at all.

[Q] help help !

i have some problem with my Galaxy note and i need help !!!
i have a note running under ICS with Go launcher. the problem is that i the phone keep restarting by itself. it keep going back to the home lock screen like it was on the starting the phone. and the best it does it for God knows how many freaking time in itself. and sometimes it dismount my SD card byitself
Can anyone help me with this problem ?
does it ask for pin?
What exactly u did before it keeps on restarted?
Did u flash any new Rom or kernel?
Sent from N8000, from the corner of this rounded earth.
if u not worried about data or u have a good backup, the I would suggest a factory reset from recovery provided u on a safe kernel or GB
That will do....
Provided he just did flash a new Rom, or kernel.
But...
If only happen after installing the go launcher, I would advice try to clean the app data from setting.
If can't then go clear cache and dalvik.
If still can't then go and change launcher.

[Q] slow boot

I've had my phone @ 1 month, and other than rooting it I never had to reboot. I used Hasoon's Desire_C_All-In-One_Kit_v2.0 to install the recovery, root, and superuser. I still have the stock ROM and software. I have installed NovaLauncher, AvastMobile Security, Titanium Backup Pro, and Holo Lockscreen. I haven't disabled or uninstalled any of the apps that came on the phone (Bell). For what ever reason today, when I hit the power button to wake the phone it went into slow motion for almost a minute, then seemed fine. My calendar and contacts ended up all messed up. So I restored ContactStorage with Titanium Backup which recommended a reboot. I held the power button until the Restart menu appeared and hit restart. The phone shut down and rebooted, which seemed slow to me, roughly a minute to get to the Sense Lock screen, and another 30 seconds to get to the Holo Lock Screen. Once the lockscreen was engaged the home screen appeared, but the phone was very sluggiish for @ another minute, then all seems fine.
Is this amount of time normal to restart the phone? or has something been changed somehow?
thanks in advance.

The stock rom is pretty slow, and the stock launcher being there (since you haven't uninstalled any bloatware) doesn't help out to make it faster.
You can try installing a custom kernel. Links are in the index thread. That could help you speed up a little.
What I would recommend is switching to CM10 or any of the roms based on it.
So bottom line, yeah with the stock rom its pretty normal to get a lot of lag.
P.S.

Try out Rom toolbox.. or any app that can force un-install other apps and make sure to not remove anything important (Common sense eh)
Also consider flashing a custom Rom, they can help with bloatware issues, everything (I think) can be found in the index so start there.
Remember to always Hit Thanks when people help you, and whenever you use someones work, or if you appreciates someone work, and also the verifications stop after 10 posts i think, which is when you are able to post in the development section as well

I've installed Rom Toolbox Lite, and froze a lot of the bloatware. Sped things up quite noticeably. I froze the HTC lockscreen app, but it appears to be still running.Should I uninstall it?
As I install apps to replace the clock, calendar etc should I also be uninstalling the same original apps?
I haven't tried the backup or nandroid backup yet. Is this considered a replacement for Titanium? Are the nandroid backups the same as those done from the bootloader?
I've been looking for a tutorial but have not found any. Does anyone have a link to one?
Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again for all the help.

The backups that you take from recovery are called nandroid backups For the lockscreen, take a backup of the apk in your sdcard then delete it from system/app. If it works then great, if not then paste your apk back to system/app You are doing this at your own risk!

You can use titanium backup. It's the one I prefer. But there are several more that are pretty good, just look for them. =3
I think that is antispam, so it should be after 10-20 posts, when the restriction on posting in the development forums lifts.
P.S. Make a nandroid backup from recovery every week or two or before you make major changes. If the system is stable make another one so that in case you decide to do something else you have your phone ready.
Restoring from backup deletes all the whatsapp and IM messages up until the day you made the backup, so take that in mind.
Keep the last 2 of them as a backup of the backup on your PC at all times. It's a lifesaver.

Restoring from backup deletes all the whatsapp and IM messages up until the day you made the backup, so take that in mind.
Keep the last 2 of them as a backup of the backup on your PC at all times. It's a lifesaver.

I agree. I always keep 3 backups with me (not that anyone asked )
1. Stock Clean Unrooted (my very first nandoid)
2. A Sense Custom Rom (rev sense5)
3. A cm10 Custom Rom (cm10)
Every two weeks I try to update my current backup. And yeah, keeping your backups in your PC is good.

At least I know I'm not the only one.
Yay for "better safe than sorry" and "you can never be too prepared"

i do neither, i have no back ups, currently my phone is just sitting in fastboot somewhere in my room waiting for the CM7 kernel.. until then i just don't bother using it xD I have my 4x, Galaxy w, and my new (old) hTC Dream
thanks to all who have helped!!
I have uninstalled 69 apps that are either bloatware from Bell and HTC, or are apps I would never use. I used Titanium to freeze the apps 1st, and see if there were any ill effects. Once I determined that what was froze did not affect any other apps, I backed up the frozen apps (batch), and then uninstalled the frozen apps (batch again).
One big plus by using Titanium to remove bloatware was when the uninstall finished, it did not uninstall 2 of the apps I had froze, getting info on these apps showed they were tied to the ROM, Picasa Web Album, and Google Play Music.
Updating CWM to the latest 6.0.3.0 was also a bonus, as ROM Manager now works for Nandroid backups without having to reboot manually (remove and replace the battery).
I will eventually get around to trying custom ROM's when time permits. For now I'm trying different apps such as calendars, keyboards, and launchers. With the multitudes of available apps, anyone have suggestions for keyboards, calendars, and launchers. I've just installed NovaLauncher and ClockQ.
When alternative apps are installed such as calendars, is it preferable to uninstall the same apps that came with the phone?
thanks again to all.
Well keyboard I use stock cm10 don't use calender and for launcher switch between holo launcher HD and sf launcher
Sent from my HTC Desire C using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Launcher. Nova. Always.
Keyboard. SwiftKey. Always
Clock. Android 4.2 clock. Look in the themes and apps section.
Edit - If you use another launcher than you can not use htc widgets.. So as i use nova, i always use player pro as a music player.

for example:
If I keep ClockQ should Clock be uninstalled or frozen?
if I install business calendar should Calendar be uninstalled or frozen?
