[Solved] I9000 booty/cm7 SOD fix? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello fellow peeps, quick question.... I've got cm7 with i897 bootloaders and would like to flash i9000 bootloader from this thread..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23524416&postcount=916 and then flash current cm7 nightly. Im trying to rid my wife's SOD situation. So i was wondering if this is the correct steps. revert back to stock with oneclick...then flash the i90000 bootloader from the the thread i linked, then cm7+gapps+glitch?
Edit #2: So this is how it all worked for me. I reverted back to stock. then I did the i9000 jvt tool which rebooted afterwards into recovery. So then from there, i flashed cm7 nightly+gapps+glitch. rebooted and then BAM!!!! Restored user apps with Titianium. Thanks and sorry for being a loose butt hole *workaholics quote.

I don't think that would fix SoD but ya your steps are correct. Note it doesn't have to be KB2 package any Samsung package (froyo, GB, i897, i9000) would work.

Thanks ^^^^ I've corrected first post and link.

Its been 4 days now and no SOD. Maybe in my case the i9000 bootloader may have fixed it.

[Q] Losing CWM after installing ROM

I have 3 SGS i9000 GT devices and it seems there is something strange happening with my newest device..
I thought flashing 2.3.3 with bootloader would help but it doesn't
This happend with 2.2 also..
I have installed stock 2.3.3, copied ROM (turbo GBread) flashed k13d kernel, gone into CWM and selected ROM installed it fine. Then am only able to see Recovery 3e !! CWM just dissapears!
If someone could please help me at all.
I thought loading a bootloader edition of JVK would fix the problem but it doesn't.
My other 2 GT devices (12 months old and 4 months old) do not have this same problem. I have no idea how to even decide what is the problem and who to ask, Voodoo CWM couldnt load on 2.2, I sent supercurio voodoo logs at his request but have not heard back.
Is this a known problem? Curio asked what the stock was on phone but I am unsure as I flashed darky rom to it as soon as I opened the box. If you need anymore information I would love it, I am sick of flashing it, Ive done it literally over 200 times in the last year and feel like a n00b all over again!

Do I really have to unlock before flashing Gingerbread?

As the title of the thread says, I read the guide to install JVK/JVA/JVB and it says that before flashing I must have my phone unlocked.
When it was only JVK in that thread, I didn't see this note so I flashed it. That was 2 weeks ago and I haven't had any issue with the Network.
I haven't unlocked my phone and I don't want to because I read the guide for unlocking and I can't use adb.
So, can I flash JVB now? Are there any issues that my phone can suffer? I asked in the thread this question but nobody answered me, so that's why I made a new thread.
I'm using a JVB based gingerbread rom without any issues and never unlocked it... In fact this is the first time I heard this...

Warning:
*These firmwares are for International I9000 Galaxy S version, your device must be unlocked before flashing these firmwares.
So, I'm waiting for other opinions...
AS they are unofficial firmwares i guess instruction might be for safety .
Official updates via Kies when 2.3 is released will not need unlocked phones .
jje
flash and see yourself !
I flashed a phone with no root or unlock from 2.1 to 2.3.3 works
I had a hard time trying to root 2.1 and got it boot looping so the last a tempt was a full flash of jvk work and saved the day.
I then was able to use cf-root 3.1 to get root and app from the market to unlock.
I'm ready to do it, but what issues can it cause? I heard something about a code at the first boot that you must enter but I don't know exactly.
Can I downgrade to 2.2.1 stock for example if I have problems?
Edit: I flashed JVB without having any issue. Thanks for the help anyway, I was pretty doubtful about what can happen. All the things work.
Cheers!

[Q] DarkyRom 10.2 RE Issues/Question

Hey Guys,
I have a couple of questions in regards to going back to stock from DarkyROM 10.2.
After using 10.2 for about a month now, I have noticed that while the rom is fast, There are quite alot of glitches in my day to day operations. My 3D HD games no longer work smoothly (as they did in 2.3.3 with CWM), the phone will randomly freeze up when using the browser/gallery/calender etc. After multiple re-flashes I am coming to the conclusion that to get back to my original performance I may need to flash a stock JVQ and then mayby just us CF ROOT or something of the like to get CWM access.
My question is, what preparations need to be done before preforming this flash. Also, can the stock files be flashed with ODIN? Also, if anyone has any input on why DARKYROM 10.2 seems to have these issues, please feel free to let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!
Phone Specs:
Samsung Galaxy Vibrant (i9000m)
DarkyRom 10.2 RE -w- KC1 Modem
Only Mod preformed after flashing RE was updating the SMS application to the SGS2 App to restore the chat bubble colors. The issues were present before this update. Did the update through DarkyRom Tool.
If you guys need any more information, just let me know..
Anyone??????
Alright, I'll take this one if no one else will. I too have the i9000m, and have learned all I can about keeping it alive and well. Going back to stock is easy. Go to general and look for the stock firmware thread. You will get instructions there on how to flash with odin. I've never used darky before but I did use CM7 and flashed back no problem. You could also look for Ramad's prerooted roms. I'm running one right now, UGKG3. Works great as I couldn't root it myself.

Hey Dude, Thanks alot for your response! One more question before making the switch....Should the voodoo lag fix that comes with Darky 10.2 be disabled before flashing with Odin back to stock?
If you want to go back to stock ROM. Before flashing disable the lagfix (for safe). You can download the firmware from www.samfirmware.com. and its an odin base installation.
Post your problem in www.darkyrom.com some expert will help you...
Hey guys.
I have flashed stock ROM (2.3.4) via Odin and worked absolutely fine. Didn't need to fiddle with the lagfix or anything. Simply popped phone into DOWNLOAD mode and flashed (with re-partition/wipe and backing up "stuff" beforehand).
The lagfix menu I think, is in the RECOVERY mode in the extended power options menu. I think thats the CWM with the DarkyROM maybe? Either way, you can enable/disable the lagfix in that menu.
Hope this helps!

Flashing back to stock question

Hi Everyone,
I have a Rogers Captivate and coming from CM7, I would like to try MIUI. However, I feel like I should restore my phone back to stock before I do so. I've looked into doing it, came across this thread and I just want to double check on my thought process...
I am going to use ODIN3 one-click 2.3.3 (with bootloaders) to restore to Rogers 2.3.3 stock and then flash MIUI afterwards. Is this wrong? Do I need to worry about bootloaders since I have CM7?
Thanks in advance!
If you are on cm7 now, there's no need to go back to stock. Just back up your stuff, do a factory reset and flash MIUI. Bootloaders are not that important on MIUI, but I wouldn't recommend I9000 Bootloaders.
Oh OK, good to know. I'm assuming the only way to get I9000 Bootloaders is to flash a I9000 ROM? If that's the case, I think I'm OK. I think I will still go back to stock. I feel like I need a complete refresh of my phone (peace of mind, haha). Thanks for your help.

Kernel flashing problem.

Okay, just got a captivate. I rooted it no problem. I couldn't flash cwm to flash cm7 without a custom kernel that has cwm on it. So I got odin3 1.7 got my phone into download mode and flashed first the cornkernel, once the phone booted up it had a crazy screen with all kinds of colors. Okay, wrong kernel, then I did boog Kernel, same thing. Can someone point me to a kernel for the stock 2.2 rom that has cwm so I can get cm7? Sorry to post, but there is so much info and I've already spent hours trying to find it.
Found one here. So, anyone coming from stock and you want CWM, use the kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 Boy I tell you, took forever to find.

You need GB bootloaders to use a GB kernel I believe.

That is correct. Corn is based on the KK4 source (Gingerbread). You must have the gingerbread bootloaders to use Corn. You (OP) might want to double check the directions for CM7 before you attempt any more flashing. Reading the instructions first can help prevent you from turning your device into an expensive paperweight. The instructions include how to go from 2.2 to CM7. They are HERE
Once I got the right kernel I was able to flash the newest nightly with no trouble. I'll have to start with the wikki next time, thanks for the link. It just turned into a mess going through these forums and Google, because this devices has been out a while and there were so many ways to do things, and a lot of them no longer supported.
I always like to include a link rather than just say go search. I've tried searching for certain keywords before and you get just about every thread in the dev section returned.
I found that issue moving to a ROM the other night. The developer suggested flashing to KJ3 stock then flashing Boog to get CWM. I figured I would just flash KK4 stock, then flash Corn, get CWM with that, and then flash the ROM (which included corn anyway). There are so many ways to do most things on the Captivate these days.
